YPWW Chapter 9

Gu Zhifei slid his hand inside, and Jiang Yang held his breath, waiting for what would come next. But suddenly, Gu Zhifei stopped, pulled his hand back, and jumped off Jiang Yang.

Jiang Yang: “?”

Gu Zhifei shook his head in mock disbelief. “I can’t believe it—you’re hard.”

Jiang Yang’s face instantly turned bright red, and he was left speechless.

“I never thought you were this kind of guy, Big Jiangzi.” Gu Zhifei shamelessly shifted the blame, throwing his arms up dramatically. “Help! We’ve got a live one here—a real-life gay guy!”

Jiang Yang: “…”

Gu Zhifei took a few steps back, spun around, and ran off.

Jiang Yang: “…”

When Gu Zhifei washed his hands and arrived at the plaza, Luo Yu was already sitting on a stone bench, waiting.

Luo Yu was miserably gnawing on a plain bun, a sharp contrast to the bald-tailed dog at his feet happily chomping on a big chicken leg.

Gu Zhifei raised an eyebrow. “Learning to save money now, huh?”

Luo Yu cursed under his breath, “Save my ass! You gave me so little money—after buying two chicken legs, I was left with five bucks.” Damn that lucky bald-tailed dog.

“Alright, enough,” Gu Zhifei said, standing in front of him. “Spill it—what’s going on? Why are you here?”

Luo Yu mumbled vaguely, “Just hanging out.”

“Hanging out?” Gu Zhifei smacked the back of Luo Yu’s head. “How old are you? Do your parents know you’re out here messing around?”

Luo Yu shot up from the bench. “I know you look down on me, but I don’t need you meddling in my business!”

Gu Zhifei grabbed his arm. “Where do you think you’re going?”

Luo Yu shook off his hand. “I said I don’t need you to worry about me.”

“Oh.” Gu Zhifei didn’t chase after him, genuinely letting him go.

Luo Yu hesitated, taking a few steps before stopping and looking back at Gu Zhifei with suspicion.

Gu Zhifei: “?”

Luo Yu: “!”

Gu Zhifei raised an eyebrow, puzzled. “Weren’t you leaving?”

“There’s definitely some kind of plot here,” Luo Yu muttered to himself. His sharp eyes caught Gu Zhifei typing on his phone. “Are you texting someone?”

“Yeah,” Gu Zhifei replied nonchalantly. “I’m messaging Xie Jun to ask for your parent’s contact info.”

Luo Yu, stunned, realized Gu Zhifei was serious. Xie Jun, their basketball team captain, had all his personal details.

Luo Yu rushed forward, trying to grab the phone.

“Woof!” The bald-tailed dog came through in the clutch, abandoning its chicken leg to clamp down on Luo Yu’s pant leg, tugging with all its might.

“Damn it!” Luo Yu kicked his leg, trying to shake the dumb dog off, but Gu Zhifei calmly took out his phone and started recording. Luo Yu quickly covered his face, shouting angrily, “What the hell are you doing?!”

“I’m a member of the Animal Protection Society,” Gu Zhifei said seriously. “I’m recording evidence of your animal abuse.”

Luo Yu was about to lose it. “Are you blind?! The dog’s biting me!”

“Is it?” Gu Zhifei asked, looking down. The dog had already released his grip and was now sitting on the ground, wagging its tail and looking up at Luo Yu with an innocent expression, tongue hanging out.

Luo Yu: “…” Damn dog, it’s practically human.

Defeated, Luo Yu slumped back to the bench, grumbling, “Fine, I won’t leave. Just don’t call my parents.”

Gu Zhifei, phone still in hand, made a show of pressing a few buttons. “Mhm, sure.”

Luo Yu: “!!”

Panicking, Luo Yu caved. “I’m sorry, okay? I was wrong! Just don’t contact my parents!”

Gu Zhifei asked, “Can you talk properly now?”

Luo Yu reluctantly nodded.

Satisfied, Gu Zhifei put down the phone and began questioning him. “Why aren’t you back at school studying? What are you doing here alone?”

“I don’t want to answer that.” Luo Yu lowered his head. “Can you ask something else?”

Gu Zhifei thought for a moment. “How did you find me?”

Luo Yu awkwardly cleared his throat. “Remember after the college entrance exams, I asked you which university you wanted to go to?”

Gu Zhifei smiled slightly. Luo Yu, looking up, was momentarily dumbstruck by the sight.

“And that’s why you came here?” Gu Zhifei asked.

“I didn’t have anywhere else to go,” Luo Yu admitted, before furrowing his brow and accusing, “And what’s your deal with that idiot? You knew I was following you for days, yet you kept getting all chummy with him. What’s up with that?”

Gu Zhifei chuckled. “Didn’t I already tell you? He’s my ‘wife.’”

Luo Yu’s face darkened. “You’re serious?”

“Of course,” Gu Zhifei replied. “What reason would I have to lie? I don’t get anything out of it.”

Luo Yu, too wrapped up in his jealousy, missed the teasing tone in Gu Zhifei’s voice.

Fuming, Luo Yu demanded, “Then what about me?”

Gu Zhifei: “?”

Luo Yu stepped forward, gripping Gu Zhifei’s shoulders tightly, the veins in his hands bulging. “Gu Zhifei, didn’t I tell you to wait for me? Just one year! You couldn’t even wait that long?”

Gu Zhifei, shaken by the intensity of his grip, felt dizzy. “Let go of me. Since when did we have a one-year agreement?”

Luo Yu, filled with righteous indignation, replied, “June 9th, 5:20 PM! I asked you which school you were going to, and I told you to wait. Don’t you remember?”

Gu Zhifei finally managed to free himself from Luo Yu’s grip. After gagging a little from the spinning in his head, he clapped his hands together, an expression of realization crossing his face. “So that’s what you meant by ‘Gu Zhifei, you better wait for me.’ I thought you were picking a fight. How was I supposed to know it was a confession?”

Then he paused, thinking for a moment. “If you’d been clearer, maybe—”

Luo Yu’s eyes lit up with hope.

“—I still wouldn’t have liked you,” Gu Zhifei finished with a shrug. “You’re not my type. Better luck in the next life. Keep working hard!”

Luo Yu stared at Gu Zhifei in disbelief—he even made a heart gesture!

Driven to madness, Luo Yu shouted, “Gu Zhifei! Can you be serious for once?! Don’t you get it? I really like you!”

People nearby began stopping and staring.

And just at that moment, Jiang Yang, who had just finished taking care of some personal business and was on his way back to find Gu Zhifei, froze in place, hearing those very words.

Standing at the center of attention, Gu Zhifei had only one thought running through his mind: The old saying is true—flirting is fun, but you’re bound to get caught in the crossfire eventually.
