DREB CHAPTER 41

TW: physical abuse, SA

Lu Lianning dragged the barely conscious Chen Miao into the top-floor suite. Beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, the river stretched out, its surface shimmering under the brilliant display of fireworks that lit up half the night sky.

Chen Miao was already tormented by the effects of the drug, his face flushed red. He leaned on Lu Lianning for support to keep himself from collapsing to the ground.

Once inside, a glass of ice water was splashed on his face, jolting him back to a semblance of awareness. Dazed and dripping wet, he stared blankly at Lu Lianning’s unreadable expression and rasped, “Thank you, Lu-ge.”

The room was bathed in a dim orange glow as Lu Lianning asked, “Thank me for what?”

Chen Miao choked as some of the water went up his nose. He rubbed his nose, but the drug’s effects were too strong. Though the ice water cleared his head enough to speak, it did nothing to ease the fiery heat surging through his body.

Lu Lianning moved closer and lifted Chen Miao’s wet head with his hand. “Shouldn’t you be blaming me for ruining your fun?”

“Three Alphas? Three million? Such a good deal, why run away? Playing hard to get?”

Chen Miao’s vision blurred, causing Lu Lianning’s silhouette to appear as though it were glowing. He couldn’t see clearly; he could only watch Lu Lianning’s lips moving, speaking words he couldn’t fully comprehend.

Three million?

The number sparked something in his mind. Yes, three million. He still needed three million. What had he done? He had messed everything up again. But when had he ever done anything right?

Messed up, messed up again, messed up again…

The words spiraled in his muddled head. What now? What to do now? What was he supposed to do about Chen Yu!

The name seemed to trigger something within him. He swayed, shoving Lu Lianning aside as he staggered toward the door.

The deposit had already been paid. Chen Yu was lying in the operating room right now. If he ran, those people wouldn’t let him go. And neither would the debt collectors. What now? Should he go back to that room?

Chen Miao rejected the idea. He couldn’t go back. Going back meant certain death.

Then what? Run away with Chen Yu? Could his body handle it? Could they transfer him to another hospital overnight? What city would they go to next?

The questions twisted like knives in his head, his bloodshot eyes fixed on the door. Just as he reached it, Lu Lianning yanked him back.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Lu Lianning’s grip was unrelenting, and Chen Miao’s body slammed against the table.

Chen Miao said, “I have to go. I have things to do…”

“What things? Selling yourself again?” Lu Lianning stood motionless at the door, with a storm brewing in his eyes that had been restrained for far too long.

Chen Miao didn’t notice. His entire body was aflame, mind in chaos. For the first time, he lost his patience with Lu Lianning. “Move. It’s none of your business. I’ve already quit.”

That sentence seemed to ignite something within Lu Lianning. He grabbed Chen Miao, pinning him against the table, and began tearing at his clothes. The lingering scent of another Alpha’s pheromones clung to Chen Miao’s body, intensifying his burning heat to the brink of madness.

Chen Miao gasped for air, staring at Lu Lianning’s rage-twisted face as he struggled to kick him away. “No, I won’t do it with you… I said I’ve quit. You can’t do this…”

“I can’t? Try me!” Lu Lianning’s voice dripped with uncontainable anger as he yanked off Chen Miao’s pants, his actions rough and forceful.

At that moment, Chen Miao suddenly muttered, “Then you have to pay first… If you want to do this, you have to…” Before he could finish saying “pay,” Lu Lianning raised his hand and slapped him.

Having been deceived, hurt, and played for a fool by Chen Miao, all the fury that Lu Lianning had suppressed came flooding out.

The slap was hard enough to snap Chen Miao’s head to the side, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

“You motherfucker! Why the hell are you so cheap! For three million, you’d throw your life away! Do you have no shame!” Lu Lianning’s anger completely shattered his rationality, spilling out in an uncontrollable torrent.

Chen Miao crumpled to the floor with a dull thud. Before he could even move, Lu Lianning ripped off his belt. The belt whipped through the air and lashed across Chen Miao’s body.

Then came the second lash, and the third…

Lu Lianning lost his sanity at this moment, his face contorted with fury, eyes blazing red. “I’ll let you sell yourself! I’ll show you how cheap you are!”

Chen Miao curled up, trying to crawl forward to escape Lu Lianning’s out-of-control assault. The drugs had left his limbs weak, and he was still dazed from the slap before being forcefully pushed to the floor.

He began mumbling weak pleas for mercy, “Please don’t hit me… stop… it hurts…”

Lu Lianning tossed the belt aside and hauled the limp Chen Miao off the floor. Chen Miao struggled, groaning as he tried to crawl away, but Lu Lianning pulled him back by the legs. Chen Miao grabbed the leg of the table in a futile attempt to resist, but the force caused a teacup to crash to the floor.

Glass shards scattered everywhere. His grip slipped, and Lu Lianning easily dragged him back.

This felt like a punishment devoid of any tenderness. When Chen Miao’s legs were forcibly spread apart, he let out a scream. Lu Lianning’s movements were unrelenting, leaving Chen Miao feeling completely cornered. He fought with all his strength, kicking and struggling to escape the out-of-control Alpha who had become unrecognizable in his rage. Lu Lianning gripped him tightly, squeezing Chen Miao’s waist until the pain became unbearable. Chen Miao’s body went weak, his arms gave out, and his face slammed into the shards of shattered glass on the floor.

By this point, Chen Miao had been completely drained of strength. Taking advantage of his softness, Lu Lianning thrust into him, eliciting only a weak groan. Chen Miao’s face felt numb and wet, though he doubted he was crying—it was more likely that he was bleeding.

Every part of his body ached, the pain so all-consuming that he couldn’t even make a sound anymore.

Lu Lianning, positioned behind him, either didn’t notice or was too consumed by his fury and desire to care.

It wasn’t until an hour later that the stream of insults pouring from Lu Lianning’s mouth finally started to slow, and his movements became more restrained. He began to realize something was wrong with Chen Miao, who lay motionless beneath him.

When Lu Lianning turned him over, he saw that half of Chen Miao’s face was smeared with blood, some already dried.

Only then did he notice the shards of glass scattered across the floor where Chen Miao had been lying.

It was a bright winter day, the sun shining brilliantly.

That winter marked the abrupt end of Lu Lianning’s career in the entertainment industry. His final appearance came during a hastily rehearsed New Year’s Eve performance.

It was Lu Lianning’s first stage appearance—a usually carefree man who always maintained a cold demeanor in front of the camera, refusing to indulge the entertainment media’s antics.

His stiff movements clearly revealed his inability to dance. Amid the festive backup dancers, his awkwardness stood out comically.

After that, all news and footage of Lu Lianning vanished entirely from the internet.
