DIGAOT Chapter 6

Did I Say It Right?

By the time Lu Yuan left the company building, the employees had already gone home. The president had been busy since the afternoon and still hadn’t eaten. After getting Su Yun’s call, he couldn’t help but think about the delicate little cakes the Omega made.

The security guard at the entrance was fiddling with his keys when he saw the president rushing downstairs.

Security Guard: “President Lu, doesn’t your company usually avoid overtime?”

Lu Yuan: “Today’s an exception.”

The security guard didn’t ask further and was about to go back to his phone when Lu Yuan cleared his throat, casually pointing at his watch and then at his phone.

Lu Yuan: “Cough, cough!”

Lu Yuan: “I was supposed to work late today, but my family kept urging me to come home.”

Security Guard: ??

Did I ask for all these details?

The security guard was still processing this when Lu Yuan suddenly asked, “Aren’t you going home?”

The president’s concern was unexpected, and the security guard was puzzled but explained seriously, “I’m on night duty tonight.”

The president’s expression turned empathetic: “So late, and you’re on night duty alone? Doesn’t your family urge you to go home?”

The security guard thought for a moment, then pointed to the insulated lunchbox on his desk and his phone: “My family just brought me some dumplings.”

Security Guard: “Zucchini and egg filling, delicious!”

The security guard gave a thumbs up.

Security Guard: “President Lu, have you eaten?”

After a whole day of work, and having paced back and forth in his office waiting for that call from his “family” while starving, the president replied, “…Not yet.”

When President Lu finally got home, it was just past 10:15. What normally took him thirty minutes had been cut down to fifteen by the alpha’s hurried driving.

He hadn’t even stepped inside when his voice rang out from the doorway: “Baby, I’m home!”

Su Yun came downstairs, his ears slightly red, either from nervousness or embarrassment, and spoke awkwardly: “Don’t call me ‘baby.’”

Lu Yuan: “Huh?”

The president didn’t get it. While taking off his watch, he looked at his Omega: “Does that mean I should only call you ‘wife’?”

After thinking it over, he quickly put his things away and stepped outside.

Su Yun, still at a distance, hadn’t heard what Lu Yuan said and was puzzled. The next moment, the alpha repeated his entrance routine, only this time, he used a different term.

The president opened the door: “Wife, I’m home!”

To Lu Yuan, it was simple: even if this was an arranged marriage, Su Yun was still his Omega.

As an alpha, when it comes to his Omega, of course, whatever the Omega says goes!

The president obediently put his things away, then looked at his Omega with an expression that clearly said, “See how well I listen? Aren’t you going to praise me?” He then asked, “Wife, is this okay? Can I come in now?”

Su Yun lowered his gaze, feeling a surge of anxiety.

His lips parted as he considered saying that terms like “wife” and “baby” should be reserved for people who truly love each other, and since they were just in an arranged marriage, such terms shouldn’t be used so casually.

But as he thought about it, Su Yun felt a strange sadness. He couldn’t figure out why he felt this way.

After all, he and Lu Yuan weren’t really together.

After a moment, Su Yun spoke: “Just call me by my name.”

The president had no idea about the complicated thoughts running through Su Yun’s mind. He was still basking in the joy that his Omega had called him home.

But since his wife’s word was law, the president nodded and agreed: “Okay, wife!”

Su Yun: …

The president scratched his head, looking a bit hurt: “Sorry, wife, it just slipped out.”

President Lu: “Wife, calling you by your name feels a bit strange to me.”

Su Yun: …

Su Yun’s thoughts were a jumbled mess. They had been in this arranged marriage for several months, keeping their lives separate until that unexpected heat cycle disrupted everything.

It felt like… something was about to spiral out of control.

After changing his shoes and putting away his watch, the president headed straight to the bathroom. When he came out after his shower, he found his Omega lost in thought.

The effects of the temporary mark were still there, though the Omega’s pheromones had faded somewhat. The president walked over and quietly wrapped his Omega in his own pheromones.

The president was quietly pleased.

So what if the security guard had dumplings? He had an Omega!

His Omega even called to urge him to come home!

He didn’t have to spend the night alone on duty, feeling lonely and bored!

Oh, and his Omega could make delicious cakes too!

Thinking of the cakes, the president, who hadn’t eaten all afternoon, soon felt his stomach protesting.

Full of anticipation, the president looked around, only to find the kitchen spotless and the fridge empty.

No… cakes.

Lu Yuan: ???

The president sat back down next to Su Yun, like a pitiful big dog: “Wife, I haven’t eaten yet.”

Su Yun, tickled by the alpha’s hair, felt a little itchy. Still caught up in the issue of what to call each other, he absentmindedly replied, “Oh.”

Su Yun had already eaten. If it hadn’t been for the alpha’s repeated reminders to call, he would have been asleep by now.

Hearing Su Yun’s response, the president perked up his ears. According to the usual script, Su Yun should now say, “What would you like to eat? I’ll make it for you!”

But the president waited and waited, and Su Yun didn’t say anything more.

Lu Yuan: “Don’t you have anything else to say?”

Su Yun: ???

Su Yun didn’t understand. Say what? He thought for a moment and tentatively replied: “I’ve already eaten…”

Seeing the president still seemed unsatisfied, Su Yun thought he hadn’t been detailed enough. Remembering how they had politely greeted each other before, Su Yun honestly reported: “Auntie made seafood congee, shrimp omelette, scallion fish fillet, and garlic okra…”

“Grr—”

The president’s stomach growled loudly.

Su Yun: …

President Lu: …

The president felt like curling up into a ball from embarrassment.

Feeling down, the president moved closer to Su Yun, rubbing his hair against the Omega’s neck.

Lu Yuan: “Wife, I’m so hungry.”

Su Yun, who was ticklish, laughed and tried to stop the alpha: “Don’t… don’t move.”

Su Yun: “How about you go out and eat something?”

But Lu Yuan shook his head, really stopping this time. The alpha hugged his Omega tightly, his voice low, sounding truly starved and full of grievance, “When I got off work today, even Xiao Li at the door was eating dumplings.”

Lu Yuan: “Xiao Li said his family made them.”

Lu Yuan: “But I’m not jealous; my family can make cakes!”

The president blinked and looked at Su Yun: “Wife, did I say that right?”

Lu Yuan: “Did I say that right? QAQ!”
