The circle of wealthy offspring in City S wasn’t too large, and since Sheng Li and Zuo Chi were of similar ages, they knew each other from a young age.
In kindergarten, they weren’t in the same class, but during the lunch break, two beds with their name tags hung on them were placed together. Sheng Li, full of energy and disliking naps, would sneak over to Zuo Chi’s bed after the teacher finished checking, and pester him to chat.
Sheng Li: “Are you asleep?”
Zuo Chi lay there with his eyes closed, behaving properly, “Almost.”
“Don’t sleep,” Sheng Li boasted, “I cleared fourteen levels of Tetris today.”
He showed his achievement to his classmates, stealing the spotlight. But Zuo Chi just responded with a nonchalant “Oh.”
Sheng Li asked in his childish voice, “Don’t you believe me?”
Zuo Chi replied, “I believe you.”
Sheng Li grinned, “I’m awesome, right?”
Only then did Zuo Chi open his eyes, with a hint of confusion, “Isn’t fourteen levels quite simple?”
That noon, Sheng Li hid in Zuo Chi’s blanket, placed his newly bought game console in Zuo Chi’s arms, and watched him play Tetris. When they reached the final level, he was even more excited than Zuo Chi, his hands clenched into fists as he exclaimed, “Oh yeah!”
The teacher found out and lectured him, “Sheng Li, naptime is beneficial for brain development and growth. Even if you can’t sleep, you should lie quietly on your own bed and not disturb other children.”
“Teacher, I know I was wrong,” Sheng Li immediately conceded. However, the next day at noon when the lights went off, he quietly climbed onto Zuo Chi’s bed again, “Ah Chi, let me tell you, today I made a super cool slingshot…”
Zuo Chi wasn’t the only one who could reach level seventeen in Tetris, but for some reason, Sheng Li felt that Zuo Chi was especially talented from that day onwards.
When Zuo Chi was young, his face was round and adorable, but his expression was always serious and solemn, unlike other children his age.
Sheng Li, on the other hand, played with mud every day with his friends, sweating profusely and often leaning towards Zuo Chi.
“Ah Chi! I caught twelve tadpoles today, and I’m giving them all to you!” Sheng Li held a transparent plastic bag, with mud stains on his nose.
Zuo Chi’s small face wrinkled up, “I don’t want them.”
Sheng Li was hurt, “Why? Tadpoles are so cute!”
Zuo Chi replied firmly, “They will become frogs later, and I don’t like frogs.”
Without hesitation, Sheng Li believed him, “Really? They will become frogs? Ah Chi, you know so much!”
Actually, for Zuo Chi at that time, Sheng Li was no different from other kids in kindergarten; they were all immature little brats. But Sheng Li was a bit more dazzling.
He went to mental arithmetic classes and learned taekwondo after school every day, so he was very busy and didn’t have time to make friends.
Sheng Li, thick-skinned as ever, ignored his aloofness. Although Zuo Chi looked like a little adult, he was just a few years old, and children are most sensitive to kindness. Unconsciously, he got used to Sheng Li orbiting around him. When they graduated from kindergarten, they thought they would part ways, crying and exchanging blessings, but after a holiday, they met again in the elementary school section of a prestigious school.
Elementary school, middle school, high school… they were all in the same school. Sheng Li was born talented, and with his flirtatious personality, he was always a prominent figure in school no matter the stage. In Zuo Chi’s impression, Sheng Li never lacked admirers. At eleven, he would hold hands with boys; at thirteen, he would kiss boys; and at fifteen, after differentiating into an Alpha, he had even more people coming and going around him.
As his friend, Zuo Chi had long grown accustomed to this. He couldn’t even distinguish when his own heart had crossed a boundary.
That summer when they were sixteen, it was hot, and Zuo Chi was invited to Sheng Li’s house to do homework. Before he could finish two problems, Sheng Li said there was something good to share with him.
Upon hearing the words “something good,” Zuo Chi’s eyelids twitched with a premonition. Sure enough, Sheng Li opened a hidden folder on the computer containing explicit videos. He nudged Zuo Chi’s shoulder and asked for his opinion, “Which one do you want to watch? Something artistic or intense? Innocent or wild?”
“How about this one? The Omega in it screams a lot,” Sheng Li suggested.
Zuo Chi asked, “Have you watched it?”
“Yeah, I watched it last time with Xiang Yiqun and the others. We even had a contest to see who could last longer,” Sheng Li grinned, his gaze lingering on Zuo Chi’s crotch, “Want to compete?”
“Such a bore. Who competes on this?” Zuo Chi retorted.
Sheng Li laughed heartily, tilting his head, “Are you shy? You surely haven’t seen it before, right?”
Zuo Chi ignored the burning sensation in his cheeks and replied calmly, “Of course not.”
As the video started playing, Sheng Li stared earnestly at the computer screen, unzipping his pants, and quickly showing a reaction, emitting a sexy gasp from his nose.
Zuo Chi licked his lips, watching as the Alpha in the video pressed the Omega against the French window of the balcony… The Omega couldn’t help but beg, and involuntarily, Zuo Chi’s mind began to wander.
He was getting into it when Sheng Li leaned in, “This Omega is really slutty.”
Zuo Chi’s movements stopped.
He was pulled back to reality, suddenly realizing that in his recent thoughts, he had cast himself as the Omega instead of the Alpha, and the Alpha pressing on him wasn’t the actor in the video but someone with Sheng Li’s identical face… He went limp, feeling a cold sweat down his spine.
Sheng Li thought it was him who dampened the mood and made a stitching gesture near his mouth.
Zuo Chi stared at the screen but couldn’t focus anymore. He stood up and rushed into the bathroom, splashing cold water on his face.
He wasn’t an Omega, how could he possibly be the one being dominated?
He wasn’t an Omega, how could he want Sheng Li… to fuck him?
It was absurd. If Sheng Li knew what he had been thinking, he would find it disgusting.
Returning to Sheng Li’s bedroom, Zuo Chi avoided eye contact, “I got a message from my mother saying we have guests at home, I should go back early.”
“Ah…” Disappointed, Sheng Li helped him pack his books, then asked, “Do you want the files? I can copy them all for you.”
Zuo Chi fled without a word. But as Sheng Li watched his retreating figure from the balcony of the villa’s second floor, he still appeared calm and composed.
Well, watching those videos wasn’t really interesting; he just wanted to see Zuo Chi’s reaction.
After that day, it took Zuo Chi about two weeks to sort out his feelings.
He avoided Sheng Li for two weeks, and when he reappeared, he had already regained his composure, smiling as he listened to Sheng Li introduce his new boyfriend.
A relationship between two Alphas would not be accepted, especially in their families, making it even more challenging. Besides, Sheng Li clearly favored Omegas, so there was no need for him to get tangled up in it.
He and Sheng Li were friends, lifelong good brothers, and it could only be that way.
Returning his thoughts, Zuo Chi saw Sheng Li walking towards him, his Alpha gaze falling on the male Omega beside him, accompanied by a sly smile.
“Drank a lot again?” Sheng Li lightly sniffed around his neck, unsure if he was smelling alcohol or his blackcurrant scent. He casually took the empty glass from the table, his eyes narrowing as if emitting electricity, “Zhang Xiaoyun and the others are in the next private room, I’m going to say hi and offer everyone a drink.”
Although he said he’d offer a drink, Sheng Li made the rounds, taking care of everyone on the table. By the time he left, he could accurately call out everyone’s names. He guessed Zuo Chi was discussing work at the dinner, so he didn’t stay long, but sent a message after leaving —
“After it’s over, come find me.”
Mr. Ding’s secretary was praised for the beautiful gemstone necklace she wore that day, smiling from ear to ear, “I’ve heard that Mr. Sheng is very charming, and seeing is believing.”
“Don’t let him enchant you, this kid is a heartbreaker,” Mr. Ding tsked, “Zuo, you and he are friends, right?”
Zuo Chi smiled, the smile not reaching his eyes, “Mr. Ding is right.”
Zuo Chi had a good tolerance for alcohol, but he couldn’t resist the continuous pouring of baijiu. After the dinner ended and the deal was sealed, his stomach felt like it was on fire. After everyone left, he lay on the table for a while before getting up to wash his hands in the restroom.
The restrooms in Qingyue City Grand Hotel were well-segmented, some designated for Alphas, Betas, and Omegas, while others were simply separated by gender. The interior of the restroom was also luxurious, with expensive marble walls, smooth and clean floors, gold-plated mirror frames, and even scented candles on the sink.
Zuo Chi entered the men’s restroom, clutching his stomach, feeling uncomfortable, and bent over, wanting to vomit, but nothing came out.
From one of the stalls came the sound of bodies colliding with the door, followed by a weak male voice, “Mr. Sheng, someone came in…”
Zuo Chi paused, then heard that familiar voice saying something outrageous, “Is it bad if someone comes in? Are you unwilling to be heard?”
The male voice replied, “There are rooms upstairs, we could…”
Sheng Li chuckled softly, “Sorry, I have something to do today, can’t accompany you.”
The door of the stall opened, and Sheng Li strode out, his T-shirt slightly wrinkled, lips slightly split. Following him was a delicate young man, probably in his early twenties.
The young man seemed regretful and grabbed Sheng Li’s sleeve, “We can do it here, it’s fine…”
Sheng Li slowly pulled his hand away, “I’ve already said, I have something to do.”
“Then can I have your number…”
Sheng Li was about to give a number just to brush it off when he suddenly met Zuo Chi’s gaze in the mirror. His attention immediately shifted, “What’s wrong with you? You don’t look too good, stomach acting up again?”
Zuo Chi shook his head, “It’s nothing.”
Sheng Li stepped forward to support his arm, “You must have been drinking without eating anything again. Don’t force yourself, I’ll walk you back to your car.”
Indeed, Sheng Li hit the nail on the head.
The young boy glanced at Sheng Li and then at Zuo Chi, unwillingly leaving.
Zuo Chi’s stomach hurt, but there seemed to be a swarm of needles piercing his chest, making it hard for him to determine which part hurt more. Sheng Li had asked him to come find him after he finished, but then he turned around and hooked up with an Omega out of nowhere.
Truly living up to his reputation as a player.
