DPT chapter 53

Nightmare

Sheng Li remembered, he had seen this kind of medicine before. The last time Qin Xu came out of Zuo Chi’s house, he thought he was a thief, and when he laid hands on Qin Xu, something fell out of his pocket, and there was a box of this kind of medicine among them.

At that time, he didn’t look carefully when he picked it up, only seeing “Omega-specific,” thinking it was a modified suppressant.

If it was a suppressant, why would Zuo Chi carry it with him when he’s not in heat now?

Sheng Li asked, “What is this?”

“Medicine.” Zuo Chi had an attitude of not wanting to say more, “I’m leaving.”

He stopped by the hospital on the way to school, and the doctor gave him medicine to deal with pseudo-heat. He casually put it in his pocket and forgot to take it out.

“Ah Chi, wait.” Sheng Li stopped him, looking at Zuo Chi, his peach blossom eyes full of heartbreak, “I, I owe you an apology.”

“I thought of you only as a friend, but in reality, even as a friend, I failed you. I said many things out of line, did many brainless things, without considering your feelings, I…”

He unexpectedly choked up. The tall figure of 1.88 meters stood in front of Zuo Chi, his eyes red.

Zuo Chi’s heart skipped a beat, but his face remained frowning. “What’s there to cry about.”

Sheng Li: “I’m not crying.”

Zuo Chi said, “You don’t need to apologize. If I have to, I owe you an apology too. I shouldn’t have agreed to the arranged marriage, shouldn’t have clung to you, shouldn’t have been so foolishly wishful.”

“No!” Sheng Li felt a pain in his chest, “You’re not being foolishly wishful, it’s me who’s too stupid, I didn’t even realize I liked you.”

“Like…” Zuo Chi smirked without amusement, chewing on the word, “You like me while sleeping with others. Is that also considered liking?”

“I…” Sheng Li said with difficulty, “Since we got engaged a year ago, I haven’t slept with anyone else.”

“Oh, you’ve suffered.” Zuo Chi’s reaction was indifferent, “You haven’t slept with anyone else, then was that little model you brought over an actor?”

The fact was like that, but Sheng Li found that no matter what he said, it sounded like a lie. “I had nothing with him. If you don’t believe me, I can bring him to you for confirmation.”

“No need, it’s unnecessary.” Zuo Chi said, “You can continue living your original life, whatever you want to do, go to bars, meet new Omegas…”

“I won’t!” Just a year later, Sheng Li felt that such a life was distant, and not what he wanted.

“Why?” Zuo Chi tilted his head, “Aren’t others better than me? I’m not obedient, not slutty enough, not handsome enough, and not soft enough.”

Sheng Li widened his eyes, feeling this sounded somewhat familiar, when he remembered this was something he had said before, it was as if a knife pierced through his heart, making him hurt so much he could hardly bear it.

“Sheng Li, what qualifications do you have to degrade me? Are you proud of sleeping with so many Omegas?” Zuo Chi arrogantly raised his chin, speaking slowly, “I even find you dirty.”

The blood drained from Sheng Li’s face, this sentence kept echoing in his mind.

Dirty.

Zuo Chi called him dirty.

He had had many relationships, but he wasn’t completely without morals. At least his encounters with those Omega were just casual, not real. He might have had a rich experience, but it couldn’t be called “dirty,” right?

He felt hurt while realizing that when he said those words to Zuo Chi before, Zuo Chi might have felt the same way?

His voice trembled, “What I said before was all nonsense.”

He spoke recklessly, and what he said might not be what he really thought, but what he subconsciously thought would hurt Zuo Chi the most.

“I don’t care whether it was nonsense or not.” Zuo Chi remained unmoved, “Just because you like me now, do I have to respond to you?”

Sheng Li hurriedly said, “I don’t mean that. I…”

He took a deep breath, “I won’t pester you anymore.”

Saying this, the pain in his heart became even more distinct. He couldn’t not be involved in Zuo Chi’s life anymore, nor could he bless Zuo Chi with others, but he had to let go, give Zuo Chi some space, give himself some time. Zuo Chi didn’t believe him now, no matter how much he said it would change, it was useless. He needed time to make himself stronger.

“You’d better keep your word.” Zuo Chi had no expression, his lips pursed into a straight line. He caught sight of someone he knew walking towards them, and left first.

He left with great ease, without a hint of hesitation. Sheng Li watched the familiar figure of Zuo Chi, feeling as though his heart was being twisted by a knife.

He had so much he wanted to say, but when faced with Zuo Chi, his mind seemed to go blank, his tongue tied, unable to express even a fraction of what he wanted to convey.

The designated driver was late, seeing Sheng Li’s stern expression, thinking it was because of his own tardiness, he kept apologizing.

“It’s okay,” Sheng Li’s voice was hoarse. He regained his composure, bent down to open the car door, and stated the address.

He had been sleepless for several days in a row recently, but perhaps due to too little rest, as soon as his head touched the back of the chair, he felt drowsy.

Just as he was about to drift off, he suddenly jolted awake, remembering the bottle that had fallen to the ground.

Zuo Chi had said it was medicine, clearly just brushing him off. What kind of medicine? Apart from suppressants, what other specialized medication did he need?

Sheng Li couldn’t quite recall the name on the bottle packaging. He tried searching on the browser but found no results, he changed the name slightly and still found no relevant information.

He then consulted his personal doctor, Dr. Wu, who sent him a picture: Is this what you’re talking about?

Sheng Li enlarged the picture and looked at it: Yes. What kind of medicine is this?

Dr. Wu: This is a medication specifically developed for Omega’s pseudo-heat, it can control the level of pheromones.

Sheng Li was startled: Pseudo-heat?

Dr. Wu: Omegas can experience pseudo-heat, similar to sudden heat, with symptoms resembling heat, but the heat period is not fixed, and the secretion of pheromones is unstable.

Sheng Li’s hand holding the phone was trembling, cold sweat forming on his back. He stared at the message from Dr. Wu on the phone screen, feeling somewhat dazed.

The time Zuo Chi called him, wasn’t it because he suddenly went into heat and then called him? What else didn’t he understand…

When faced with a bad situation, Zuo Chi had called him first, which meant he trusted him. But what had he done? He had suspected Zuo Chi of drugging him, manipulating him. He had even insulted Zuo Chi by comparing him to others and had left him alone at the hotel!

Sheng Li’s chest heaved, his heart twisted in pain, and his handsome face contorted with anguish. His eyes, however, were filled with despair.

What had Zuo Chi thought at the time?

He tried to put himself in Zuo Chi’s shoes to recreate the scene at that time, feeling so uncomfortable that he could barely breathe. They had done it several times, Zuo Chi must have been very uncomfortable. He should have taken care of him carefully after, wiping his body for him, cooking for him or ordering food, asking if he was in pain. But instead of caring about his condition, he not only questioned him with cold words, but also left him behind and walked away. What kind of mood would Zuo Chi be in alone at the hotel?

Did Zuo Chi go to the hospital alone later? Did he wait alone for registration? Did he go to get medicine alone, feeling lonely, helpless, wishing for someone to accompany him?

Did he think he was a bad person? Did he regret liking him?

And what was he doing at that time? Damn, what was he doing at that time! He even complained that Zuo Chi had messed up their friendship, and blamed him for going to Cheng Xiangwan’s house.

He was so cruel and heartless, but Zuo Chi didn’t say anything, and later still followed him home.

Sheng Li grabbed the fabric of his chest, dared not to think further. He used to think that as long as he understood his own heart and made up his mind to be good to Zuo Chi for the rest of his life, everything would be okay, but now he wasn’t so sure.

Dr. Wu sent another message: Pseudo-heat generally doesn’t occur alone, mostly as a complication of Omega gland damage.

Gland damage. These two words were bloody and impactful, making Sheng Li breathless.

What happened to Zuo Chi’s glands? Why were they damaged? When were they damaged? Was it caused by external force or was it inborn? Would it hurt, how much would it hurt?

A series of questions flooded Sheng Li’s mind, he slapped his forehead hard, trying to keep himself awake.

Sheng Li: What are the reasons that could cause gland damage?

Dr. Wu: There are many reasons that could cause gland damage, specific reasons need to be tested to determine.

Sheng Li: Is it possible that it’s inborn?

Dr. Wu: It’s possible, but the possibility is not high. If it’s inborn, it should have been discovered earlier.

The Zuo family had a family doctor, if it was inborn, they definitely wouldn’t ignore gland damage, unless…

Sheng Li remembered that Zuo Chi didn’t differentiate until he was eighteen, feeling cold all over, his limbs numb.

Is there a connection between the late differentiation and gland damage? He felt his speculation was crazy, but couldn’t help but think in the negative direction.

He had never liked Zuo Chi’s parents, they not only had a strong desire for control but also constantly suppressed Zuo Chi. But could parents intentionally delay their child’s differentiation?

What kind of life had Zuo Chi led in the Zuo family… Zuo Chi had finally moved out of the Zuo family, and how had he treated him when he was living with him?! He hadn’t cared about his situation or made him feel comfortable at home.

Sheng Li remembered the period after they had sex when Zuo Chi would occasionally feel nauseous and vomit. He had assumed it was a recurring stomach problem and hadn’t thought deeply about it.

Was Zuo Chi’s discomfort back then due to gland damage? But he chose not to tell him and let him misunderstand.

Sheng Li knew the reason: Zuo Chi was already disappointed in him. In Zuo Chi’s eyes, he was no longer reliable.

His concern and his love had come too late.

Neither his past self nor his present self deserved Zuo Chi.

The driver parked the car and, seeing the Alpha in the back seat unresponsive, called out, “We’re here.”

He saw the handsome Alpha raise his head, his expression one of deep pain, as if he had just awakened from a nightmare.

Author’s note:

Do not project this onto real life.

Of course, novels and reality should be separated. Does liking to write/read “forced love” mean one can accept such behavior in real life? Similarly, liking “scumbag turning over a new leaf” is just a preference for writing/reading and doesn’t mean the person is foolish in love. If you encounter a scumbag in real life, I certainly hope everyone can run as far as possible.

Measured by realistic standards, evaluating novel plots would lose much of its fun.
