DPT chapter 75

Pursuit of the Heart

The day the probation period ended was a workday, so they continued working as usual during the day.

However, Sheng Li’s employees noticed that he seemed unusually cheerful, with a smile never leaving his lips. During meetings, despite a subordinate’s data error, Sheng Li’s reminders were gentle. At lunchtime, he even treated everyone from the group headquarters to bubble tea and ordered plenty of desserts and pastries to choose from.

In the break room, employees whispered to each other, “What’s up with President Sheng today? He’s so happy. Did the stock price go up or something?”

“Can’t you see it? His face practically screams ‘I’m in love.'”

“I heard at the New Year’s celebration, he brought his boyfriend along. His boyfriend is an Omega and apparently quite impressive, running his own company.”

“What boyfriend? That’s his ex-fiancé,” said an employee. “I think he’s about to become his current husband.”

In the afternoon, after finishing his important work, Sheng Li excitedly began spamming the group chat.

Four Handsome Guys (4)

Sheng Li: Good afternoon, everyone. What are you all up to?

Xiang Yiqun: What do you want?

Sheng Li: Are your wedding gifts ready?

Xiang Yiqun: Sorry, Zhou Jing and I are getting married in two months, you have to give a gift first.

Sheng Li: @Tai Xingyu, is your wedding gift ready?

Tai Xingyu: Working, do not disturb.

Sheng Li: Fine, earn more money, and make sure the red envelope is big.

Tai Xingyu: ?

Xu Hui: @Tai Xingyu, work hard, you have to give three gifts.

Tai Xingyu: Leaving the group, thanks.

Xiang Yiqun: @Sheng Li, have you officially transitioned yet? Why are you already asking for wedding gifts?

Sheng Li: Today marks six months!

Xiang Yiqun: So confident you’ll pass the probation period?

Sheng Li: Of course.

Sheng Li’s confidence didn’t stem from his own excellence but from Zuo Chi’s reciprocation. They were now in a semi-cohabitation state; Zuo Chi’s house always had duplicates of daily necessities. Despite their busy work schedules, unless one of them was on a business trip, they met every day. They ate together, watched movies at home, played games, watched the news, and if they had free time on weekends, they played ball at a nearby court or went to the gym.

Sheng Li couldn’t understand what had blocked his mind before, not realizing that these ordinary daily moments with Zuo Chi were what his heart longed for.

When it was time to leave work, Zuo Chi left the office on time, which was rare for him. As he passed through the office area, many subordinates looked up at him.

Someone teased, “Boss, leaving so early today, do you have a date?”

Zuo Chi didn’t deny it, “The boss is leaving, aren’t you all leaving too?”

A subordinate replied, “No one wants to date me.”

Zuo Chi smiled, turned, and took the elevator downstairs. Sheng Li was waiting in the car downstairs. When he saw Zuo Chi come out, he swiftly got out and opened the passenger door for him.

Zuo Chi bent down to get in and fastened his seatbelt. “Where are we going for dinner?”

Sheng Li said, “You’ll know when we get there.”

Zuo Chi looked out the window. On summer nights, the sun set late, and it was almost six o’clock, but it was still bright. The car music was playing a song from a movie they watched last week. The scenery outside the window changed from tall buildings to lush green hills. The road up the mountain was a bit rugged.

About forty minutes later, they arrived at their destination. The view from the top of the mountain was wide, with layers of mountains extending to the horizon. A flock of geese disappeared into the distance, like a famous ink painting.

Following Sheng Li along a path, Zuo Chi saw a white tent on the flat grassland. The tent had a butterfly-shaped canopy with star lights hanging on the edges. A small table was filled with food: braised beef, sushi, rice balls, fruit salad, and a bottle of red wine.

Zuo Chi asked, “Did you set this up?”

“Yeah, how is it?” Sheng Li had scouted the location in advance and secretly practiced setting up the tent for two days without Zuo Chi knowing. He left work two hours early to set up the place.

“Very comfortable,” Zuo Chi said, sitting on a wooden chair. “Just in time to watch the sunset.”

After seven o’clock, the sun began to approach the horizon, casting a golden hue over everything. They quietly enjoyed the food, their wine glasses filled with red wine.

“Zuo Chi,” Sheng Li called softly, “let me sing a song for you.”

Sheng Li picked up a guitar from the tent and started strumming. There was no microphone, no spotlight. He played seriously, but as soon as he began to sing, his true nature was revealed.

Sheng Li was tone-deaf; his singing was far from good, full of emotion but lacking technique. The romance crumbled, yet it touched the heart even more. Zuo Chi watched him, his shoulders shaking with laughter, his eyes slightly wet.

As the last note faded, Sheng Li stood up and walked toward Zuo Chi step by step. When he reached him, he suddenly knelt on one knee.

The kneel was forceful, making a “thump” sound that seemed painful.

Zuo Chi was stunned, thinking that ending the probation meant dating, not fast-forwarding to a proposal.

Sheng Li pulled out a red velvet box from his pocket and opened it with one hand, revealing a ring. In the dim light of the moon and stars, Zuo Chi recognized it as their engagement ring. He wasn’t sensitive to ring designs, but he had worn this one for several months and was very familiar with it.

He couldn’t help but ask, “How did you get this?”

He remembered not seeing the ring after returning from a trip abroad, assuming he had lost it somewhere.

“When you were hospitalized, I found the ring in your luggage. Last week, I checked and found it still there, so I took it to resize.”

“Now, I’m giving it back to you.” Sheng Li said, “Ah Chi, I remember our engagement ceremony; I didn’t do anything, didn’t do it right. I know the past can’t be changed, but from now on, I’ll respect you, trust you, and take care of you.”

Their last engagement ceremony was formal and grand, but there was no proper ring, and Sheng Li didn’t kneel. This time, it was just the two of them, on the mountain top, on the grass, at night, able to hear each other’s heartbeats.

Sincerely and expectantly, Sheng Li asked, “Ah Chi, will you date me?”

Zuo Chi’s answer was ready, but he didn’t agree immediately. “Sheng Li, I don’t want a brief romance. I want us to move forward together in our limited lifetime. I want exclusivity, forever, which means you have to be loyal and honest, and can’t have relationships with other Omegas beyond ordinary friendship. Can you do that?”

“I can.” Sheng Li didn’t even hesitate, “I understand the significance of us being together this time. What you want—is what I want too.”

Sheng Li knew that given his past experiences, his words lacked credibility. But he wished he could open up his heart and show it: “If I don’t live up to it, you can cut off my balls.”

“So ruthless.” Zuo Chi couldn’t help but laugh, “Those are your words. If you don’t follow through, I won’t show any mercy.”

Sheng Li couldn’t take his eyes off Zuo Chi’s smile, his lips curling up in response: “You won’t get the chance.”

Zuo Chi extended his hand: “Aren’t you going to help me put on the ring?”

Sheng Li carefully pinched Zuo Chi’s fingertips as if handling a precious, fragile item. The silver ring slid over his middle knuckle and fit perfectly at the base.

Zuo Chi’s heart was overwhelmed with mixed emotions, but joy prevailed. Before him was the person he had loved for many years, and who would join him in facing future challenges.

Sheng Li lowered his head and kissed Zuo Chi’s fingertips, trailing kisses from his fingertips to the back of his hand. He looked up, then suddenly grabbed Zuo Chi’s nape and bit his lips. They kissed deeply, breath mingling, tongues entwined, greedily seizing each other’s breath.

Zuo Chi’s cheeks flushed, and after their lips parted, he wrapped his arms around Sheng Li’s neck, resting his chin on his shoulder, breathing heavily: “You know, there’s one drawback to kissing in a place like this.”

Sheng Li stroked his hair with his right hand: “Hmm?”

Zuo Chi blew a breath into Sheng Li’s ear: “There’s no bed.”

Sheng Li’s throat moved, the concentration of his amber pheromones rising instantly. He didn’t want to miss this opportunity: “Isn’t there a tent? We can also go to the car.”

Zuo Chi tilted his head: “But there are no condoms.”

Sheng Li: “There are in the car.”

“Tsk.” Zuo Chi poked Sheng Li’s cheek, “When did you put condoms in the car?”

Sheng Li didn’t feel embarrassed at all, “Last time… when I bought a dozen boxes.”

Those dozen boxes at home had all been put in the bedside table by Zuo Chi, who didn’t know when they’d be used up. Every time he opened the drawer and saw them, he felt his butt hurt.

He snorted: “You only think ahead at times like this.”

Sheng Li carried Zuo Chi back to the car.

Zuo Chi felt it was ridiculous for a man of 1.8 meters to be carried and told Sheng Li to put him down so he could walk himself: “I’m heavy.”

The Alpha strength was great, especially for an Alpha on the edge of his sensitivity period. Sheng Li held Zuo Chi’s thigh with one hand and his waist with the other, refusing to let go, and walked steadily with him in his arms.

Once in the car, they eagerly resumed kissing, silver threads stretching between their lips. Zuo Chi straddled Sheng Li, lifting his T-shirt, while Sheng Li’s hands nimbly slipped under his clothes, igniting flames on his back.

Soon, clothes were thrown onto the front seat. Sheng Li’s well-defined abs and sexy V-line glistened with a fine layer of sweat. His eyes lingered on Zuo Chi’s collarbone, waist, and legs, as if wanting to devour him.

Continuous pleasure overwhelmed Zuo Chi, but an Alpha wouldn’t soften at such moments.

Their fingers intertwined, and they climaxed together.
