DPPM Chapter 64.2 – Dagger (2)

Xia Zhiye very much does not want to die.

So Xia Zhiye lowered his hand and stood there obediently, staring at the cold killer in front of him.

The killer wore a white suit and a dark gray shirt today, which made his skin look very fair. His waist looked very slim, his legs looked straight and long, and his temperament was also equally noble and cold.

Extremely good looking.

It was so good to see that even under the shadow of death, Xia Zhiye couldn’t help but get horny and said, “That, Song-ge, I have a small ungrateful request.”

“Speak.”

“Can you give me another kiss before I die?”

“…”

Fucking scumbag!

He really is a big scammer who cheated him out of money and his feelings!

Song Yan finally couldn’t hold back his anger. He kicked Xia Zhiye’s vital part ruthlessly.

Xia Zhiye didn’t want Song Yan to be a widow for the rest of his life, so he quickly turned to dodge.

This dodge, however, moved towards the direction of the dagger’s blade. Without hesitation, Song Yan quickly pulled the dagger back, afraid it might actually touch Xia Zhiye.

However, this momentary distraction allowed Xia Zhiye to seize the opportunity. He grabbed Song Yan’s wrist and pressed him against the wall with a swift turn.

With this restriction, Song Yan was cautious not to make any sudden moves that might injure Xia Zhiye. He gritted his teeth and warned, “Xia Zhiye, you have three seconds. If you don’t let me go, you won’t leave here alive today.”

“If you were really willing to do that, why did you bother to retrieve the dagger just now?”

Xia Zhiye leaned against Song Yan and asked with a lazy smile.

Song Yan looked at Xia Zhiye, who looked so sure of his guess. He gritted his teeth, sneering, “I just don’t want you to die so easily like that. I’ll be counting down that three seconds now.”

“Don’t be so fierce, listen to my explanation first. After that, you can beat me to your heart’s content, and I promise I won’t fight back or run away, okay?” Xia Zhiye coaxed in a low voice, trying to win via a gentle offense.

However, Song Yan didn’t buy it at all. He coldly counted: “Three.”

“Take it easy…”

“Two.”

“I’m not denying…”

“One.”

“My wife, I’m sorry, I was wrong.”

After counting down to one, Xia Zhiye immediately released Song Yan’s arm, stepped back, grabbed a pillow from the sofa, threw it on the ground, and knelt down.

His kneeling was extremely proficient, incredibly standard, and extremely sudden. So much so that Song Yan, who had already picked up the dagger to give Xia Zhiye a lethal threat, froze instantly in place.

“…?”

Wait.

Why is his action so skilled and swift?

And who told him to kneel?

No, the most important thing is – who is he calling his wife?!

This smelly, shameless bastard!!

By the time he reacted, Song Yan’s ears were completely reddened. He yanked Xia Zhiye up, screaming, “Get the fuck up! Who the hell is your wife!”

Seeing the situation escalate, Xia Zhiye quickly took the initiative, hugging Song Yan and apologizing, “I’m sorry, my boyfriend, I was wrong. It’s just that I’ve seen my dad do this to my mom since I was a kid, and I just followed suit without thinking.”

“…”

No wonder he’s so skilled.

This is the real “learning from example, family edition”.

But Song Yan was not in the mood to care about what kind of “ear-raking” education Xia Zhiye has received since he was a child. He just wanted to break away from Xia Zhiye’s arms. “Get the fuck up! Don’t you know, boys have gold under their knees!”

“I know, but even a mountain of gold can’t buy a beautiful smile.”

“…”

Where did this person come up with so many twisted arguments and fallacies?!

“Release me!”

“Listen to my explanation first.”

“I told you to scram!”

“I will scram when I’m done explaining!”

“Do it now!”

Song Yan wanted to break free from Xia Zhiye to appear more imposing, but unfortunately, his strength was not sufficient. After struggling a few times and feeling frustrated, he couldn’t help but raise his voice in anger, “Do you think you can just get away with it by playing the victim here? That I can forget how you deceived me in the first place? Do you really think I’m a fool, Xia Zhiye?”

Once his emotions spilled, they broke like a dam. His usually calm and indifferent tone was now filled with wrath and hoarseness, unable to be restrained any longer.

“You said you want to explain yourself, but what do you want to explain? Explain why you fooled me by pretending to be poor when you’re actually rich? Explain how entertaining it is for you to watch a fool bring things to you every day that you don’t actually need? Or is it to explain that there’s a reason behind everything you’ve done?”

“Xia Zhiye, do you know? If it weren’t for buying an air conditioner for your grandmother, getting a birthday cake for you, and making sure that the two of us, two poor people, wouldn’t go hungry or cold in winter, I wouldn’t even bother attending this shitty banquet with Song Minghai!”

“I was locked in the basement by him for three days and three nights, and I never compromise with him. Now, just for this measly 10,000 yuan, I agreed to follow him around like a fool. Why do you think I crossed my own line?”

The anger and sadness finally broke through – the long-suppressed emotions erupted, breaking all his indifference disguises.

Song Yan gritted his teeth, his screaming has long became hoarse. The corner of his eyes were tinged red. “So, if you don’t really need the things I gave you, can you stop pretending that you really want them? Otherwise, it makes me look like a self-righteous idiot!”

Because, every time Song Yan thought Xia Zhiye wanted something, he’d do everything he could to give them to him.

For example, that silly parent-child activity in the amusement park.

For example, these two matching ugly scarves Song Yan bought with the last of his savings.

For example, attending this idiot’s birthday banquet.

But when he thought he had finally learned how to treat someone well, to give to someone, and then could be loved with righteousness, he was told that the things he had given away were not actually needed by the recipient.

The shame, loss, and sadness far outweigh the anger of being deceived.

Xia Zhiye had never seen Song Yan like this. He did not expect Song Yan agreed to accompany Song Minghai to this banquet because of him and his grandma.

But on second thought – Song Yan was a very prideful young man. Unless his Achilles’ Heel was targeted, how can he bow his head to Song Minghai?

Xia Zhiye thought it would be okay to explain it later, but now it seems that he had done something stupid.

Pity and self-blame crawled into Xia Zhiye’s heart. He quickly lowered his head and lightly kissed the corner of Song Yan’s eye. His voice was gentle yet urgent, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I’m the big fool. I was wrong. You can hit me or scold me however you want, but please don’t be sad, okay?”

“Laozi will be sad for you when I’m sick!”

Song Yan weakly struggled, but did not break free.

Xia Zhiye held him tightly in his arms and coaxed in a low voice, “Okay, okay, not sad. Our Cool Guy Yanyan will never get sad. Can you listen to my explanation first?”

“Explain my ass! Scram for Laozi!”

Xia Zhiye didn’t budge, he just held him and explained earnestly, “I didn’t think you were a fool, and at the beginning, I didn’t want to deceive you, let alone intentionally pretending to be poor. My family has money, but I am really penniless, so I really need and want the things you gave me, and I cherish them a lot. Look, I’m still wearing the red scarf you gave me before, right?”

It’s obviously incompatible with his high-end suit. Plus, the room was not cold, and yet, Xia Zhiye insisted on wearing his ugly scarf. Still, Song Yan feels that Xia Zhiye has a sick mind.

But in the end, he didn’t break free. He just wore a cold expression, remained silent, and continued to listen to how this big liar would try to justify himself.

“The Xia family has always been like this. They will let us do whatever we want to do, but they will not give any financial support. My dad started from scratch after graduating, and even after marrying my mom, he didn’t have the money to buy a decent house. We could only live in the small courtyard left by my maternal grandmother, the one in the current Wine Alley.”

“I grew up following my parents from a humble beginning, so even though my dad succeeded in his career and became wealthy later on, and my paternal grandfather has always treated me well, I never really cared much about material things.”

“Later, my parents died in a car accident, and my paternal grandfather brought me back. He has a strange temper. Whenever I make a mistake, he likes to impose economic sanctions. On the day I bought the bicycles, I angered my grandpa to the point where he fainted. He got so mad that he canceled all my cards, so apart from my meal card, I really didn’t have any money.”

Listening to what Xia Zhiye had to say, Song Yan was skeptical. “Really?”

“Really, if you don’t believe me, you can ask my grandfather. How dare I lie to you, my boyfriend, when I know that lying meant you’ll break up with me?” Xia Zhiye had a sincere look on his face.

Song Yan still felt something was wrong. “Your grandfather is so rich, so what’s the matter with Grandma Liu? Isn’t she your maternal grandmother?”

“When I was a child, my parents were busy trying to make a living. Everything from eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, going to school, coming home, to dealing with big or small illnesses—all of it depended on Grandma Liu next door taking care of me. She didn’t have any children of her own, and since I always called her ‘Grandma,’ even though she wasn’t my biological grandma, it was almost like she was. After she picked up Little Mahjong, their financial situation became too tight, so I used to give them some financial assistance.”1clarification: XZY calls Grandma Liu with “奶奶” which is paternal grandmother, that’s why SY was so confused. Maternal grandmother is “外婆” or “姥姥”

It sounded plausible. Grandma Liu and Xia Zhiye often say things like “Do you still have money?” and “We can’t use your money.” It really doesn’t sound like what a real guardian and a ward would say.

This issue indeed came from his own preconceived notions.

“Okay, you’ve barely passed this question.” Song Yan grinded his back molars and continued to interrogate, “Then what about that time you sold your blood?”

“When did I do that?”

“On the day you bought the bicycle, I saw a small leaflet promoting blood-selling in your clothes, saying you’ll get 300 yuan per donation. You had pinholes in your arms, and your face looked really pale. What else besides you sold blood for money back then?” Song Yan confidently stated his analysis.

Xia Zhiye, however, was both angry and amused. “That leaflet was something I picked up when I bought that bicycle. The 300 yuan was borrowed from Shang Huai. The pinhole is because it rained the day I carried you on my back, and I got sick, went to the hospital, and had a blood test. So, what illegal and criminal things are you constantly imagining me doing in your mind?”

“…”

Song Yan never thought that the truth would be like this.

After a brief silence, he called: “Xia Zhiye.”

“Mn?”

“Are you scolding me just now?”

“??”

“I haven’t scolded you yet, and you dare to scold me?”

“…No, Song-ge, you misunderstood, I don’t have it, how dare I scold you, I’m just in a hurry…”

“Release me!”

“Okay.”

Xia Zhiye immediately released his grip on Song Yan. He kept his upright posture obediently.

With ten thousand grievances still lingering in Song Yan’s heart, he suppressed his anger, took a knife, pressed the back of the blade against Xia Zhiye’s neck, and coldly questioned, “So, when did you realize that I had misunderstood your situation?”

“The day I bought the washing machine.”

“Then you knew early on that I had misunderstood, why didn’t you explain?”

“Because I want to chase you.”

“?”

Xia Zhiye lowered his gaze and met Song Yan’s puzzled look. He whispered gently, “At first, I had no idea that you thought I was very poor. I thought that when you bought pig liver for me, a bracelet, shoes, and milk teas was… because you liked me. So, I was ready to confess my feelings. But on the day of the confession, I realized you were just doing targeted poverty alleviation. I was sad for a long time after that.”

Song Yan paused for a while, as if thinking of something. “So that day you suddenly posted on your Moments, saying that you felt heartbroken… was because of that?”

“Mn, at that time, I felt like I was completely overthinking things, and I was ready to give up. I even returned the money to you. But when you came to find me, I realized that I liked you too much, to the point where I couldn’t give up. I wanted to continue pursuing you. However, if I had revealed at that time that I wasn’t actually poor, you might have been angry and ignored me. So, I thought I’d wait until I successfully pursued you before telling you the truth.”

“…”

“I know that what I did was indeed wrong, but I genuinely liked you too much, and I really wanted to win you over. That’s why I became blinded by my emotions and ended up becoming a big liar.”

So, in reality, it was Song Yan himself who misunderstood Xia Zhiye first and then did things that led to Xia Zhiye’s misunderstanding. This whole mess caused a lot of chaos, and it even resulted in Xia Zhiye feeling heartbroken along the way. Thinking about it this way, it seems like he also bears some responsibility for the situation.

In addition, Xia Zhiye looked at Song Yan with gentle and affectionate eyes – so affectionate that it seemed that no matter what Song Yan did wrong, Xia Zhiye would forgive him for the sake of love.

Song Yan couldn’t help but feel a slight tremor in his heart. He loosened his grip on the dagger, intending to have a good talk with Xia Zhiye.

However, in the split second when the blade was about to leave Xia Zhiye’s neck, in the blink of an eye, Song Yan suddenly realized that something seemed off.

Stopping his hand, he clenched his dagger again, and looked at Xia Zhiye coldly. “Wait a minute, you mentioned targeted poverty alleviation. Are you saying that you were the one behind Shen Jiayan’s account that day?”

“…”

“So you know I’m selling my watch?”

“…”

“The Omega watch that was sent to your house was mine?”

“…”

“So, you mean I used the money you gave me to support you, and you were under the illusion that everything was fine, while you silently observed the whole situation without saying a word?”

“…”

“After all that has been said, one more thing.” After the four soul-crushing revelations, Song Yan lowered the dagger and issued a pentakill invitation, “What do you mean by saying you returned all the money to me?”

Xia Zhiye did return the money once on the day he got heartbroken.

It’s just the money returned from [Pure and Good-Looking Male High School Student Accompanying to Play Online] to [Rich and Beautiful Young Lady].

It has nothing to do with him.

Unless…

“Xia Zhiye, is telling ghost stories that interesting?”
