DPPM Chapter 78.1 – Elopement (1)

|| “I want you in my future.”

“Mn, I miss you too.”

Song Yan touched Xia Zhiye’s shoulder and said this in a flat tone.

If it wasn’t for some kind of cool liquid soaking the fabric on Xia Zhiye’s shoulders, he might have believed that Song Yan was actually a true indifferent cool guy.

It’s a pity that the youth cried before they left, and he cried again when they met again. The cool guy character design has long since collapsed.

Xia Zhiye caressed Song Yan’s soft hair, feeling overwhelmingly tender-hearted. Ah, really, the feeling of really meeting and hugging was different.

Even if he couldn’t stay with Song Yan for a long time, letting him hug him like this, letting him cry a little, and telling him that he was still there, would always make things much better.

Xia Zhiye thought this long-awaited reunion would be gentle, but just as he was about to hold Song Yan tighter, he suddenly felt the person in his arms stiffen. The next moment, his foot was harshly stepped on, and then he was forcefully pushed away. “Xia Zhiye! Have you grown bold or what!”

Xia Zhiye: “?”

Song Yan snorted coldly. “I haven’t seen you for a few months, and you actually dare to smoke? Tell me!”

Xia Zhiye: “???”

He looked at Song Yan’s sudden change from a petulant crybaby to a cold killer face that screamed ‘you’re dead today’. Feeling extremely aggrieved, Xia Zhiye said, “I don’t smoke, how can I possibly smoke?”

“Then why do you have such a thick stench of smoke on your body? You stink.” Song Yan frowned, his face full of disgust.

Xia Zhiye lowered his head and sniffed his body. “Is there a smell of smoke? Why didn’t I smell it?”

He can’t believe he’s been wronged by Song Yan!

In order to prove to him that he has not wronged him, Song Yan clutched Xia Zhiye’s collar and sniffed it, then explained everything he could smell: “Obviously there is a very heavy smell of smoke, the kind that came from a poor-quality cigarette. Besides that, there’s also the smell of beer, braised beef noodle, pickled pepper chicken feet……”

Song Yan realized something and looked up at Xia Zhiye. “Did you go to the construction site to move bricks with migrant workers to earn money?”

“…”

He had to admit that Song Yan’s logic was still so tightly knit that he couldn’t find any holes in it, but it’s also a hundred thousand miles away from the truth.

Xia Zhiye couldn’t help but to softly snort. “Which construction site dares to accept minors as workers? I probably got this smell from the carriage’s various occupants.”

Song Yan’s greatest material suffering since childhood was when he wanted to dry-clean his clothes but he had no money. That’s why he didn’t react for a moment, as his brain was still processing – he thought Xia Zhiye meant he rode a car to Beijing. Feeling justified, he asked a rhetorical question: “Lying to me? What kind of car have such a mixture of stenches, huh?1clarity: “train” in Chinese is 火车, while “car” is 车. That is to say, it’s common to shorten train into just 车 (it means closer to carriage). In this scenario, XZY shortened it to 车, but he means a train’s carriage. SY misunderstood it as XZY riding a car instead.”

Xia Zhiye smiled and said, “The kind of green train that only has a few occupancy left, so I had to grab the last standing tickets available at the station.”

“…”

The green train.

Standing tickets.

Song Yan’s questioning expression and fingers clutching Xia Zhiye’s collar relaxed when he heard his answer.

He has never eaten pork, but he has seen pigs run.2a proverb. It means: he might’ve never felt/done it himself, but he has seen it, and thus, can make an educated guess.

He had seen the environment of the green train from TV. However, the journey from Nanwu to Beijing on the green train would take almost a day and a night. In other words, Xia Zhiye stood alone in the crowded and dirty carriage for a whole day and night just to cross through wind and rain to see him in Beijing.

What a dumbass.

Song Yan felt that he had made a very objective and rational evaluation about Xia Zhiye.

But for some reason, his eyes welled up again, his fingers clutching the collar softened, and then he couldn’t help but hug Xia Zhiye again, pressing his forehead against his shoulder.

Xia Zhiye felt that the T-shirt fabric on his shoulders might never dry at this rate.

‘What cool guy? He’s just a little crybaby.’

He let out a short chuckle. “Am I still stinky now?”

“Mm… not so bad.”

Song Yan buried his face in Xia Zhiye’s shoulder, casually throwing out a sentence, but couldn’t help sniffing.

He used to think that he always felt secure when he hugged Xia Zhiye because of the familiar warm citrus scent on Xia Zhiye’s body.

But now, holding this sweaty Xia Zhiye who had been squeezed in the green train for a whole day and night in the hot summer, when the highly tense nerves that had been stretched for months relaxed as if finding support, he realized that what made him feel secure was not the scent, but Xia Zhiye himself.

Even a simple hug after a long separation seems to be able to heal this long suffering in an instant.

Xia Zhiye was still by his side.

He still would run towards Song Yan, regardless of danger3confession: I interpreted it as SY talking about XZY, but… it can also mean SY talking about himself..

As long as he knew this, those ghostly whispers that doctors tried so hard to suppress with medication would be able to be placated obediently.

“But they won’t let you come in to accompany me, and I can’t go out either.”

In the ward management of this private hospital, family members must show their ID cards and relationship certificates when visiting. Song Minghai specially warned that Xia Zhiye would definitely not be able to go in and accompany him.

And considering his current physical condition, even though he felt like his illness could be mitigated when he saw Xia Zhiye, the doctors wouldn’t think so. They wouldn’t arrange for his discharge. They might even require a nurse to accompany him just to leave this building.

So, most likely, they can only briefly meet at the entrance of this building, share a hug, and then be politely and ruthlessly separated by the staff.

After traveling for over twenty hours just to see each other for twenty minutes, Xia Zhiye also seemed to feel it was worth it. He rubbed Song Yan’s head and chuckled softly, “So, make the most of this time to hug me tighter, or if you’re not shy, want to give me a kiss, I don’t mind.”

“I mind.”

Song Yan mumbled.

Xia Zhiye was not surprised. Just as he was about to laugh, Song Yan raised his head and said, “So let’s elope.”

Xia Zhiye: “?”

Song Yan: “You call a car first.”

Before Xia Zhiye could ask for a clarification of what Song Yan meant, he saw that Song Yan had calmly and indifferently hooked his finger at Song Lele who was poking his head in the corner.

Song Lele ran over.

Song Yan lowered his head and took off Xia Zhiye’s smartwatch and gave it to Song Lele. “Take this Gege’s smartwatch, I lend it to you. If your mother wants to find us, she can track the location through this.”

Song Lele didn’t quite understand, but he still nodded obediently.

Song Yan looked at him again. “Do you still have pocket money this month?”

Song Lele nodded again. “Yes, I just went to see Grandma the day before yesterday, and she gave me 500.”

“Mn, can you lend them to Gege?”

“Okay.”

Song Lele honestly took out five crumpled pink banknotes from his small bag and handed them to Song Yan.

Song Yan took it without shame, put it in Xia Zhiye’s clothes pocket, and looked up at him. “Have you called the car?”

Xia Zhiye seemed to guess what he wanted to do. With a smile in his eyes, he replied, “Mn, it’s already at the door of the hospital.”

“Okay,” Song Yan turned his head to look at Song Lele. “You go play with that security guard brother. When he realizes that Gege is missing, hug him tightly and call for your mother loudly. She is upstairs and will come down quickly. Then you tell her that your Gege and Xia-gege have gone home for treatment. She will understand. Got it?”

“Mn, I know!”

Although Song Lele didn’t quite understand why his brother did this, he still firmly remembered his brother’s arrangement and nodded heavily.

Song Yan patted his head, feeling satisfied. “Go, this matter is done. I’ll cut your math homeworks in half as a reward.”

Upon hearing this, Song Lele didn’t hesitate for a second. He immediately darted towards the security guard, his little legs moving swiftly.

Song Yan took Xia Zhiye’s hand. “Are you ready?”

Xia Zhiye interlinked their fingers together. “Mn, I am.”

“One.”

“Two.”

“Three.”

“Run!”

Song Yan didn’t understand why in those TV dramas, every time there was a conflict in the plot, it was always a rainy summer day.

As he held Xia Zhiye’s hand, braving the storm and trudging through muddy puddles and fallen decaying osmanthus flowers, heading towards the vehicle that would soon take them to freedom, he finally realized that there were certain weather conditions, seasons, atmospheres, and people that made you want to break free from the monotony of life and engage in the dramatic fantasies you had long imagined.

It seemed that only they could prove that they are still living in a bright tone with all their might – and not trapped in the shackles of those rigid rules, living hopelessly, numb to reality.

This is also why young people always tend to do some childish and impulsive things during their youth. Because only in youth can one be daring and reckless due to having nothing to lose.

As the car started moving, Song Yan watched the security guard behind them, who was being held by Song Lele by the legs. Not long after, Tan Qing hurried down and joined in the fray. The sheer surreality of what’s happening caused Song Yan to laugh, his body leaned on Xia Zhiye’s. “Fuck, Xia Zhiye, we ran like idiots just now.”

Xia Zhiye replied in a serious tone, “To be honest with you, just now I felt like I was the ML of an idol drama.”

“Can you fucking stop spewing nonsense for once?”

Song Yan smiled and punched Xia Zhiye.

Xia Zhiye couldn’t help but laugh too, saying, “My acting skills pale in comparison to your little brother’s, don’t they? When he hugged the security guard and shouted ‘Gege, run!’ I thought he was going to sacrifice himself.”

“Mn, you’re right. So, when we get back, you’ll have to buy your little brother-in-law4specifically, 小舅子 aka your wife’s little brother a few more Transformers to make up for it.” Song Yan looked at the mess left behind as the car moved farther away, smiling as if unaware of what he had just said.

When Xia Zhiye heard the words “little brother-in-law”, he felt delighted. He hugged Song Yan and whispered, “Alright, we’ll talk about it later. Where are we going now?”

“Go home and sleep.”

“?”

‘Song Yan was so proactive today?’

Seeing Xia Zhiye’s expression of anticipation and surprise, Song Yan knew exactly what yellow waste he had in his head again. Blushing, he kicked him and said, “Stop those shameless thoughts immediately. We’re just going to sleep, purely sleep. I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in months, and I’m going to catch up on all of it today. Don’t you dare disturb my sleep.”

That’s what Song Yan originally planned.

However, at their age, most of the time it’s difficult to control the development of events.

When the door was closed, Song Yan hugged Xia Zhiye and gently kissed his lips. From then, the two of them couldn’t be separated anymore.

At first, there were no distractions, only the intense release of the sadness, despair, and hatred buried in the heart during those days of separation, as well as the overwhelming longing and love that were too intense to be expressed in words.

Song Yan thought that Xia Zhiye was able to restrain himself. Otherwise, how could he just smile so gently when he saw him? But when he felt Xia Zhiye’s out-of-control attack that was close to devouring him whole, he realized that Xia Zhiye’s pain and longing that had been pent up for a long time weren’t less than his at all.

However, Xia Zhiye was the one who was relied upon in this relationship, so he had to show a more gentle and strong demeanor in front of Song Yan.

The intense repressed thoughts and love have broken through Song Yan’s rationality. He hugged Xia Zhiye’s waist tightly, closed his eyes, and let his senses follow his instincts.

He thought they could just let things go on with the flow – let them both reach their peak together, and be satisfied together.

However, Xia Zhiye suddenly held his hand, turned his head slightly, and said in a hoarse voice, “I’ll take a cold shower.”

“Xia Zhiye, actually I don’t…”

“You’re still underage, and you’re not in good health. Let’s eat first, then we can have a good night’s sleep, okay?” Xia Zhiye bowed his head and kissed Song Yan’s forehead, then turned around and prepared to go into the bathroom.

Song Yan grabbed his wrist.

Xia Zhiye turned around.

Song Yan lowered his eyes, trying his best to keep his tone all cool and nonchalant. “Having a cold shower at this time will lead you catching a cold.”

“So?”

“So I’ll help you.”

His tone was cool, as if saving a life and being casual about it, yet his ears were blushing to the point of blood-red. Xia Zhiye deeply sighed. He felt that Song Yan was indeed sent by the heavens to test his moral character and legal consciousness.

In the end, Song Yan wasn’t able to actually help. If anything, he only set the fires even higher.
