The torrential rain started in the middle of the night and did not stop until dawn. At first, everyone slept in a tent, but later, they all went to take cover in the car. The dampness and coldness made them feel very uncomfortable.
After dawn, they ate breakfast hastily and started to go on their way.
Myanmar lacks national power so the highways in the whole country are less than five. There are almost no cement-paved roads in sparsely populated places. As long as it rains, the road conditions will be extremely bad. The road became muddier and it was difficult to drive by. It was only thanks to the high chassis and sufficient power of the car that they could get through this. Otherwise, it would be impossible for them to pass through many muddy areas and some people might have to get out of the car to push it out of mud.
It was seven hours later than expected when they arrived at the outskirts of the forest area. It was already midnight. It is very unsafe to enter the forest area at this time. Ayer commanded everyone to park the car in a circular shape. They eat and rest in the car for the night.
After eating, Ayer went into Shan Ming’s car and used an electronic device to display the map of the forest area. He studied the next day’s route with Shan Ming. After discussing this, the two of them agreed that they would not be able to drive the next day. The road vehicles definitely would not be able to get in the forest. If they drive, it would be too labour-intensive. They planned to wait a day to see whether the weather would clear up.
In the end, Ayer looked at Shan Ming with a serious expression. There was a hint of worry in his eyes, “Shan, I have some bad premonitions.”
Shan Ming looked at the heavy rain outside the car, “If this kind of weather hits and we are not familiar with the terrain and environment, it will be very bad.”
“It’s not just that. I feel a little bad about this mission.”
Shan Ming nodded, “I also feel that something is wrong. Don’t you think the things we needed to deliver this time…”
“…is too little, isn’t it?”
Shan Ming’s eyes darkened, “That’s right. Only two hundred catties. It’s too little. But the transaction price is really big enough to pay all of our commission.”
“When I was negotiating with the client, I also asked him about this. He said that it was the first time he cooperated with a group of Mexicans and the other party did not trust him. This transaction was only intended to check the quality of the goods and to test his integrity. The main purpose of his trip is not to make money but to secure this customer.”
Shan Ming said: “What if his main purpose is not to sell goods but instead, he wants us to eliminate his opponent?”
Ayer shook his head, “It is probably not like that. The other party won’t come out in full force. Even if someone attacks us, it’ll just be someone they hired. To be honest, if he wants us to wipe out the other party’s lair for him, no matter how much money he gives us, I will not agree to it. After all, we are not familiar with this place and I don’t want to make any uncertain transactions. If the price he offered this time was not so attractive, I planned to leave directly.”
Shan Ming pondered, “What if… he uses us as bait?”
There was a hint of ruthlessness in Ayer’s eyes as he sneered, “I have considered this too. The two hundred catties of goods and our escort are indeed bait for him to flaunt. I have already prepared for this. So once this happens, we will turn back and ask him to pay double the commission.”
Shan Ming laughed and said, “You are such a miser. You dare to take any risk for money.”
Ayer ruffled his hair, “Isn’t this what we normally do? Besides, if I don’t earn money, how can I support you guys?”
Shan Ming tilted his head, “Ayer, I’m not a child anymore.”
Ayer laughed and said: “You told me the same thing a few years ago. But now that you say this, it sounded a little more convincing since you already have a child of your own.” Ayer looked at Shen Changze who was curled up asleep on the seat.
Shan Ming followed his gaze and couldn’t help smiling, “Ayer, he’s very smart. He will become a pro for our mercenary regiment in the future.”
Ayer curled his lips, “Ten years later? It’s not certain whether we would still be alive by then.”
Shan Ming stretched his waist, “Who cares how long we will live as long as we live happily today.”
Ayer chuckled, “Then I’m going back to my car.”
“Well, I’m going to sleep too.”
Ayer pointed to his cheek as he smiled softly and said, “Give your brother a goodnight kiss.”
Shan Ming patted his back, “Don’t make trouble.”
After Ayer got out of the car, Shan Ming bypassed Pell and sat in the back seat. He leaned on the seat and closed his eyes trying to sleep. But the surrounding air was damp and cold, making him very uncomfortable. Shan Ming tried for a while but still couldn’t fall asleep. So he stretched his body from the back seat to the front seat and poked the child’s soft face with his fingers.
The child woke up quickly. His sleepy eyes were looking hazy and he looked at Shan Ming above his head. He whispered, feeling aggrieved, “What the hell?”
Shan Ming stretched out his arms to hug him.
The child was sleeping soundly. He struggled a few times with great reluctance at this time and his voice was complaining from lack of sleep, “What the hell.”
“Sleep with me. It’s so fucking cold at night.” As he spoke, he carried the child from the front seat to the back seat and stuffed him into his arms.
The child is small so he can sleep anywhere. He nestled into Shan Ming’s arms and found a comfortable position. He fell asleep again.
Hugging something warm in his arms, Shan Ming felt comfortable all over. He fell asleep while leaning on the seat.
Everyone was awakened by the sound of a gunshot. Shan Ming jolted awake. His head hit the roof of the car, making him dizzy for a few seconds.
Dino yelled, “Someone is sneak-attacking!” As he said this, he bent down and leaned against the window to watch the movement outside.
Shan Ming took out his gun at once and wiped the mist away on the window. He saw that their night watchmen were firing guns into the woods. The guns were fired in a disorderly manner and it was very chaotic.
Shan Ming pushed the child away, opened the car door and jumped out of the car while shouting: “Don’t shoot. Squat on the ground.”
The four watchmen squatted down and walked to hide by the side of the car. Ayer jumped out from one of the cars and shouted, “Shan, take out the bazooka! It’s useless to shoot normal guns. We can’t even see them.”
Shan Ming opened the trunk of the car, assembled the M72 LAW as quickly as possible. He then stepped on the door with one foot and grabbed the luggage rack with one hand. He jumped up on the roof of the car and carried the bazooka on his shoulders. BANG! There was a loud bang and brilliant sparks exploded into the woods not far away. They could clearly see that some people were blown into the air. There were many more figures behind the fire.
After firing this shot, Shan Ming jumped out of the car immediately. If not, the target would be him and he would be beaten into a hornet’s nest in a while. After jumping down, he threw the bazooka aside and picked up the submachine gun and shouted: “Ayer, take someone to look after the goods! I’ll bring a few guys in and kill these idiots.”
Ayer ordered the sniper to prepare for cover. The tiny red dot of the infrared night vision scope scanned the surrounding of the dark woods back and forth. It was like a demon using its eyes to scan its prey. The other party probably didn’t expect that there was a sniper among them and the woods immediately became quiet. When it started, it was as if the wind and grass could be heard.
Pell jumped into another car, pulled out the night vision goggles and threw them at Shan Ming’s feet. Shan Ming pointed to four people to follow him. He then threw the night vision goggles to them. Jim was among them.
Jim has no advantage in fighting people face to face. But in such an environment when it’s dark, with his thin body and excellent speed, he can silently slit out the enemy’s neck. He is the best assassin of ‘Peregrine Falcon’, which is why many people could turn the other cheek for his perverted hobbies and still keep him around. After all, the mercenary regiment is not an organisation for any noble reason. They keep useful people in their team.
The five of them put on night vision goggles, leaned down, and quietly entered the forest by virtue of the darkness.
In the case of close combat, the submachine gun is not very useful. Shan Ming carried his beloved Heckler & Koch MP5 behind his back and then held a pistol in one hand. In order to prevent the enemy from attacking, he pulled out a sabre from his boot.
Shan Ming’s hobby for sabres is similar to Job’s hobby for women. Even though he loves and collects all kinds of sabres, the one he loves the most and uses most conveniently is always the Kukri machete from Nepal.
The whole body of this knife is iron. The black blade and handle are very tough. It can easily tore off the neck bone of a grown man.
Shan Ming clenched his hands into fists and stretched out his arms at shoulder height to direct the other four to advance in a horizontal column. The four received his instructions, spread out to both sides and then moved forward in a straight line.
The two people farthest from him soon became unseeable. Shan Ming held the Kukri machete in his backhand and walked cautiously into the forest. His sharp eyes scanned every inch of land he could see.
Those people were not too far away from him, he could feel it in his guts.
