Ayer and Tang Tingzhi walked in the deep forest one after the other. As mutants, both of them could feel the dangerous energy fluctuations constantly surging around them. The animals wanted to tear them apart and eat them, but the animal instinct made those ‘hunters’ dared not act rashly under the threat of Ayer’s powerful mutant energy.
Ayer carefully observed the movement around him all the way through. But Tang Tingzhi didn’t even look at the ground under his feet. He carried a sample box on his back and collected some weird things along the way.
Ayer sighed, “Honey, we should borrow a mutated pet from them before we come out.”
Tang Tingzhi said without turning his head, “Isn’t there you?”
Ayer raised his eyebrows, “What do you mean by this? I’m a pet?”
Tang Tingzhi raised his head and pushed his glasses up, “I mean. Nothing would dare to get close with you here.”
Ayer smiled and said, “I’m always so reliable in your eyes, right?”
Tang Tingzhi nodded, “That’s right.” After speaking, he continued to squat on the ground and scrape the moss on a tree root.
Ayer’s self-esteem as a man was immediately satisfied. He then happily walked over. Just as he was about to squat down, one of Tang Tingzhi’s hands grabbed his ankle, “Back away. You stepped on it.”
Ayer had no choice but to take a few steps back. He watched Tang Tingzhi’s face concentrating as he carefully handled the samples in his hand. He pursed his lips slightly. His fair skin was so soft and radiant. His curled eyelashes trembled slightly. Ayer couldn’t even breathe and became extremely cautious. Ayer remembered that when he first met him, the two of them were in their early twenties. Although he was too beautiful to be real in his eyes, he seemed soulless and cold like a robot. After seeing through the essence of this man, Ayer had fallen in love with him without hesitation. More than ten years have passed since then. Time has hardly carved any traces of change on his face. Ayer knows that he must have successfully carved his place into his heart.
Ayer squatted on the side quietly, waiting for Tang Tingzhi to collect the moss. Then, he saw Tang Tingzhi’s eyes lit up and his face showed a satisfied expression. Ayer could not help but smile. He got up to help Tang Tingzhi up and patted the mess on his shirt off of him. He said softly: “You’re done?”
Tang Tingzhi smiled slightly, “I have collected all the things I am interested in in this area.”
“Are you hungry? Do you want to go back to camp?”
Tang Tingzhi looked up to the sky, “Let’s go back after dark. I still want to go walk around.”
Ayer took the sample box from him and carried it on his back, “Since you’re done, can we just take a walk in the forest and have a date?”
Tang Tingzhi was surprised and said, “Is this also considered a date?”
“A date doesn’t mean that we need to have a candlelight dinner.” Ayer put his arms around his shoulders and kissed him sweetly on the cheek, “Even if it’s just a walk in the forest, being with you is still considered a date.”
Tang Tingzhi nodded, “It seems that my definition of dating needs to be reinterpreted.”
Ayer took his hand, “Don’t think so much. Let’s just go.”
The two held hands and walked in the forest. In this lush and huge vegetation kingdom, they looked so small. It was as if the whole world was condensed in front of them and only the two of them were left in this world. That lonesome feeling alone makes their hearts pound.
They stopped here and there as Tang Tingzhi kept discovering things that interested him. Meanwhile, Ayer was watching the movements of the animals in the forest and protecting him dutifully.
Gradually, the two were tired from walking and rested under a big tree to eat something.
After Tang Tingzhi finished eating his bread, he closed his eyes and leaned against the tree trunk with a tired look on his face. Although he is a mutated human, he is only a brain evolutionist with the least improvement in terms of physical fitness. If he uses his brain excessively, his body will easily become fatigued.
Ayer touched his forehead, “Honey, are you tired?”
Tang Tingzhi nodded, “There are many mutants around. I unconsciously want to detect their energy fluctuations.”
“Don’t pay attention to them anymore. I’ll monitor them. You just have a good rest.” Ayer took him into his arms and rubbed his chin against the top of his head, “Sleep for a while if you’re sleepy.”
Tang Tingzhi lay in his arms with peace of mind. He gently grasped Ayer’s hand with one hand and said in a low voice, “I don’t mind. I feel… very safe.” In Ayer’s arms, he can always feel the full sense of security.
Ayer also closed his eyes. But he didn’t fall asleep. His nerves were always on alert and he would know if anything was approaching them with malicious intentions.
The two of them rested quietly for more than ten minutes. Suddenly, Ayer opened his eyes. His sea-like blue eyes showed a cold light.
Tang Tingzhi also felt a movement from the top of his head. He opened his eyes and was just about to speak when Ayer covered his mouth and said in a low voice, “Don’t move. It’s okay.”
Tang Tingzhi nodded his head. Ayer moved his hand down and wrapped it around his waist. He took out a gun with his other hand.
In the next second, there was a sudden burst of strong energy fluctuations directly above them. The two of them raised their heads suddenly as the leaves scattered all over the ground from the sky. A huge furry monster descended down, attacking them with his teeth and claws.
Ayer clenched his arms. Holding Tang Tingzhi in his arms, he jumped up from the spot. In the blink of an eye, he had jumped five to six metres away. The moment his feet stood firm, he turned sharply, raised his gun and shot at the creature unceremoniously.
An ear-piercing scream can be heard. The creature rolled and fell to the ground. But it quickly got up again. The two of them took a closer look and found that it was a big squirrel which was three metres high. It looks very ferocious. Except for the huge tail, it has almost no other squirrel features on it.
Tang Tingzhi sighed in disappointment, “I thought it would have been something novel.”
Ayer smiled and said, “What are you going to do with it?”
“Don’t fight with it. It’ll be just a waste of bullets.”
Ayer kissed his neck and muttered, “So you’re not worried about me.”
“That thing is not your opponent.”
“Of course it is not. But you should at least show that you care about every risk I take. Even if it’s just pretending, it’s part of what it takes to be married.”
Tang Tingzhi showed a rare hint of frustration, “Why do you have a set of theories about marriage that I can never finish learning?”
“Since this is the first time you are married, I forgive you.”
“Isn’t this also your first time?”
“Well, at least I have had a lot of romantic experiences with other people before.”
Tang Tingzhi frowned. Just as he was about to say something, the squirrel had already got up from the ground and looked at the two pieces of fresh meat with a greedy look in its eyes. It jumped up nimbly and rushed towards them like a hungry predator.
“Yo…it’s kind of smart.” Ayer said, putting the gun back into the holster.
Tang Tingzhi said: “What are you doing?”
“I won’t waste your bullets.” While speaking, the squirrel reached the front of them at an alarming speed. Ayer let go of Tang Tingzhi and jumped up. His slender body swung in the air like a fish. The speed and curvature of the twisting are impossible to do for human bones. Tang Tingzhi can ‘see’ that a force is transmitted from the starting point of the swing – From the neck, it is transmitted step by step through the arc of the body swing until the force reaches the end point—that is, at the toes. Ayer’s feet looked like a fish swinging its tail. With a fierce sweep, the force came out of his body and hit the squirrel’s head at once. The heavy squirrel was kicked out by the pair of feet that were not even as big as its mouth at least four hundred metres away. The creature fell heavily on the ground and was immediately unconscious.
Ayer fell back to the ground. He twisted his neck and looked at Tang Tingzhi with a smile, “How about it? Was it fun to watch?”
Tang Tingzhi stared at him with wide eyes. His eyes constantly changed from surprise to astonishment, “You…when did you practise this move?”
“Recently, I guess my spine has become bone-cut like a fish. And my body can swing a lot. Of course, I am much stronger in the water than on the ground. I have always wanted to find a living thing to try it onto. But Shen Changze just won’t let me kick him.”
Tang Tingzhi said excitedly: “I really want to dissect your spine.”
Ayer’s face changed slightly, “Do you already want to be a widow just after getting married?”
Tang Tingzhi shook his head vigorously, “No. You’ll be completely numb and won’t hurt. We will then ask Cong Xia to repair it for you afterwards. In fact, you just need to sleep and I will…”
Ayer squeezed his face forcefully and said viciously: “If you think about dissecting me again, I’ll make you unable to come out of bed for three days straight.”
Tang Tingzhi’s body trembled for a while. But he immediately calmed down.
Ayer smiled evilly: “Or…in fact, you are looking forward to it?”
Tang Tingzhi said as he looked down, “I don’t want to waste three days just like that.”
“When will we do it then?” Ayer put his arms around his waist and muttered in dissatisfaction: “You used to have at least one day off in the weekend. Since the apocalypse, you have never had a holiday at all. Have you considered that you still have a married life that needs to be balanced with your working life?”
Tang Tingzhi pushed his glasses up and said seriously: “I think my schedule is very scientific and reasonable. Besides sleeping, you and I have an extra 10 hours of time to spend together every week.”
“As your husband, I can only possess you for more than an hour a day?”
“We are discussing this during the day. But at night…we…” Tang Tingzhi’s eyes flickered. The volume of his decreased, “Didn’t we still sleep together at night?”
“You often work until three to four in the middle of the night. You can’t show up on our bed at 12 o’clock as you said. So how much time do you owe me? Have you calculated it yourself?”
Tang Tingzhi asked carefully: “Do you want me to calculate?”
Ayer pretended to be angry and said: “Why are you so stingy about things? Go on and calculate. Calculate it now.”
“I need data to support my calculation. I have to go back and look through my research log to…-“
“-No need.” Ayer squeezed his chin, “If you make up for me more when you have the time, I can forgive you.”
“How…can I make it up?”
Ayer touched his lips lightly, “You’re so smart but you still ask me?”
Tang Tingzhi said softly: “If it’s equivalent compensation, at least let me calculate how much time I owe you so that I can… umm…”
Ayer blocked his lips. The moist lips were sucked gently and his dexterous tongue slipped into his mouth. The passion spread from between the lips of the two of them. Ayer’s hand naturally penetrated into Tang Tingzhi’s clothes and stroked his warm, smooth waist.
Tang Tingzhi gasped and said, “Ayer, I don’t agree to have sex here.”
“I disagree with your disagreement.”
Tang Tingzhi paused, “Well, you do have the right to disagree. But I also…-“
Ayer hooked Tang Tingzhi directly to the ground. When he fell into the thick leaves, Ayer’s tall body also crushed down on him, “Sometimes, you need to know a little bit of strategy.”
“What? What kind of strategy?”
Ayer kissed the tip of his nose, “Strategies in marriage. For example, I am very dissatisfied with the fact that you always work until midnight. This dissatisfaction has accumulated to a certain extent and needs to be released. If not, I will be angry. You don’t want me to get angry…”
Tang Tingzhi blinked, “Negative emotions are not beneficial.”
“So, in order to prevent me from having negative emotions, the current strategy is to be obedient to me.”
“Being obedient is also a strategy? How is this different from usual? In most cases, I am the one who compromises with you.”
“It was my strategy to make you compromise.” Ayer brushed his hair away and kissed him hard on the forehead. His eyes were filled with contentment. His slender fingers then moved slowly to unbutton his shirt buttons.
Tang Tingzhi’s eyes trembled and he whispered, “Did you know that the Devil Pine has perceptions for the entire forest?”
“Oh, is that so?” Ayer’s gentle kiss fell on the corners of his lips and chin. Finally, he gently sucked on his Adam’s apple and peeled off his coat with his big hands. He stroked the warm and firm skin, “You…Do you think it can peep on us? Let that tree peep on us. I think it’ll be quite exciting.”
