They rested in the base of the Angolan Armed Forces for four days. The Angolan Armed Forces were able to capture the government army’s fortress with the stolen weapons they got from the help of ‘Peregrine Falcon’. When the battle subsided a bit, they drove back to the helicopter landing point. This mission is completed and the final payment has been paid. It’s time for them to go back to Colombia.
However, they never expected that they would be ambushed on the way there.
When the sun was about to set, a Black Hawk helicopter caught up with them. Looking at the markings on the fuselage, they knew it was the Angolan government army. At least two things can be explained now. One is that there are government spies in the Angolan Armed Forces and they have been informed of their whereabouts. The other is that, for them to still send armed helicopters to hunt and kill them when there were still battles going on at their front line, it shows how much the government hates them.
Indeed, if the arsenal hadn’t been lost, it would be impossible for the Angolan Armed Forces to capture the main fortress. It was an important defensive fortress protecting the capital. After the base was occupied by the Angolan Armed Forces, the government army suffered a severe blow.
They had lingering fears since their previous helicopter was shot down by snipers so they flew very high. The four off-road vehicles driving on the road were simply moving targets fro them.
The Angolan Armed Forces officer in charge of escorting them began radioing for help.
Ayer quickly ordered everyone to abandon their vehicles and go into battle lightly. The healthy mercenaries consciously carried the injured on their backs and withdrew into the jungle collectively. They all knew it was a big problem this time.
With so many people entering the forest, they cannot hide that well and there are a lot of targets for the government army to attack. The helicopter does not even need to aim. As long as a round of bullets were swept within a general range, the chance of someone being hit is very high. There are three injured people who are unable to act on their own.
Even so, no one gave up on their teammates. They dispersed as quickly as possible, dividing their values as targets as far as possible. The Black Hawk caught up with them and the four off-road vehicles that were already fixed targets for them were blown up one by one. The Gatling six-barreled machine gun equipped with the helicopter began to frantically sweep a round of bullets through the woods.
Shan Ming pulled Shen Changze to hide under a rotten tree root. The layers of leaves formed a natural barrier. The bullets shot into the soil not far from them, causing the turf and roots to fly around. The ‘chug chug chug’ sound can be heard. It was frightening.
At this time, their best bet is luck.
If they continue to run around, people in the sky can easily see them. But if they hide here, they may also be hit by stray bullets. Whether they can survive or not depends on whether they are lucky enough.
The Black Hawk began to look for any figure he could catch and dropped a bomb. The violent bombardment made the ground under their feet tremble.
Shen Changze gritted his teeth and said, “I really want to shoot it down!”
Although everyone thinks the same, the current conditions are impossible. Machine guns and bombs hit the ground and everyone was afraid to get out from their cover. The dense bushes covering the sky above their heads also bring great difficulty for them to aim at the helicopter. If they miss, their location is exposed and the bomb will be dropped on them immediately, killing everything around it.
Facing the big guy in the sky, they can do nothing but hide and wait until the Black Hawk runs out of ammunition or fuel.
Suddenly, the voice of the Tiger Shark came from the radio, “Listen everyone. There is a government force sneak attack. There is a government force sneak attack.”
Could it be any worse?!
Shan Ming clenched his MP5K tightly, and he swore to himself that he would send all these motherfuckers to hell.
The soldiers of the government army approached them from the southwest, while the helicopter kept circling at the southeast. If there was any slight movement, a round of bullets would sweep over them. They were caught in the middle, not daring to move, not daring to show their face or attack.
They can hear the sound of gunshots not far away from them.
Shan Ming said to Shen Changze: “Follow me. You are responsible for keeping an eye on the copter.”
After Shan Ming finished speaking, they turned over and rolled out one after another. The child followed suit. The two quickly crawled forward and found a tree as a cover. They hid behind two trees respectively. Shan Ming saw an enemy coming from a distance and he shot him. Meanwhile, Shen Changze observed whether the Black Hawk turned its head towards their direction or not.
His gunshots attracted the attention of the enemy soldiers. Shan Ming poked his head slightly and with his peripheral vision, he saw about four or five people coming towards him. He was immediately swept by the bullets and he retracted his head.
The time was too tight for them just now. All the big equipment for combat was left in the car. If Shan Ming didn’t have a few rounds of magazines on him, it would be an even more difficult battle.
The sound of the MP5K’s chirping-like shot made them feel unsafe compared to the burst-like shot of the AKU from the enemy side which knocked out a large amount of sawdust from the trunk where Shan Ming was hiding!
Standing close to this only hiding place, Shan Ming prayed that this rotten tree, which fell down so many years ago, could still remain a little solid. But under such a dense rain of bullets, he knew clearly in his heart that in the next moment, a 7.62 calibre bullet that penetrated the rotten wood would definitely penetrate into his body!
Shen Changze looked at the unreliable tree against Shan Ming’s back which was attacked by all the firepower. He immediately became anxious. He moved out of the cover and rushed towards the enemy. He just got out for a bit and jumped back down immediately after firing a round of magazines.
His actions finally let the enemy know that there was another person behind the other tree which attracted half of the attack towards him now. He revealed his position and became a target so that the tree Shan Ming was leaning against could still hold on from being completely penetrated by bullets.
Shan Ming whispered into the radio, “Son, how fast can you change the magazines?”
“Half a second.” Shen Changze’s eyes were as big as copper bells, pacing back and forth between the sky and the ground for fear of missing any fatal details.
“What do you think of these people?”
Shen Changze said disdainfully: “They are trash. At least under one second, I can hit them.”
Shan Ming took a deep breath, “Let’s bet for half a second.”
The child gritted his teeth, “Baba, even if you win the bet, you may still be spotted by the helicopter.”
“I’m almost out of bullets and the tree behind me is almost finished.” Shan Ming briefly explained his situation and he calmly said, “Cover me.”
The child said in a deep voice, “Okay.”
The sharp rise of adrenaline made Shan Ming feel uncontrollably dry mouthed and even his usually stable fingers had a slight spasm. He tried his best to swallow the little saliva he had left and at the moment when the sound of AKU’s shooting stopped, Shan Ming suddenly rolled towards a shallow pit not far from his side!
One second! Taking advantage of the second while the opponent is reloading is his only chance to survive! This is a gamble. He bet that his opponent does not have too much experience in the battlefield and the bet was on his own life.
The MP5K in his hand shot crazily at the enemy facing him. The butt of the gun bounced wildly, causing his jaws to be torn apart. Shen Changze’s PSG was also desperately spitting out bullets. He watched the first few enemies fall to the ground under the rounds of bullets from him and the child. In the next moment, bullets were aimed at him and he went into a pit to hide. Shan Ming heard the roar of the short-barreled AKU again and it caused him to feel dizzy!
His bet was right…
The AKU’s sound stopped abruptly. Shen Changze probably had fucked him off. Shan Ming only felt the pain in his spine. Half of his body was numb. He must have had some kind of muscle strain. He almost couldn’t bear it.
Shen Changze rushed towards him, held him in his arms and took him up to jump towards the pit on the other side. After landing on the pit, the two of them rolled desperately on the ground. The place where Shan Ming was hiding just now was blown to the ground in an instant. When they got to another tree, they almost fainted from the struggle.
Shan Ming shook his head and forced himself to be sober. He dragged Shen Changze to run into the forest. Machine guns were chasing after their heels. The two of them had never run so fast before but they had to run fast as they were racing against death!
In Shen Changze’s mind, he couldn’t help thinking about those people who were smashed into pieces by the Gatling heavy machine gun. They turned into small pieces once they were dead. If they died like that… Damn, No way in hell. How could they die like that!
Now that the Black Hawk has spotted them, there is no reason for them to run slower than the helicopter. Shan Ming knew that this time he had run out of luck. But on the bright side, at least the others are safe now.
Shan Ming felt that his legs were about to cramp. The short-term strenuous running exhausted his physical strength exponentially and the shadow of death was close behind him. It put his nerves in a state of high tension.
He had never been chased by a helicopter yet. This is indeed a rare experience.
He guessed that the Black Hawk helicopter had run out of ammunition. Or else, they would still be shooting at them. They had already seen them. If a bomb was thrown down, they would all be blown up, so why bother shooting anyway? Are they lucky or unlucky? He can’t tell. After all, the chance of survival is very slim. The process of struggling for their lives will be forced to prolong.
When Shan Ming saw that there was no other way, a hollow appeared more than 200 metres ahead of them. It would be an excellent natural air defence shelter for them. The two of them suddenly felt the wind under their feet as they sprinted wildly towards their only hope.
Shan Ming was running when he suddenly felt light in his body. His brain was still thinking about the reason why he felt this way. When he turned his head, he was forced to squint his eyes due to a shining golden light.
Shen Changze had already turned into the form of a Dragon Blood Man. He held him in his arms and ran towards the hollow.
This time, the speed was clearly inhuman. It took only four to five seconds to complete the 200-metre distance. It is estimated that the helicopter pilot in the sky was also stunned as the round of bullets swept by the machine gun lost its aim.
Shen Changze stuffed Shan Ming into the hollow, only to find that it was too small for two people to fit in. So he blocked Shan Ming with his body, staring fiercely at the Black Hawk flying towards them from the sky with his red eyes.
Shan Ming grabbed his waist to pull him in but the hollow was really too small. Even he himself didn’t even have enough space to shrink in.
Although the scales of this little monster are bulletproof, a heavy machine gun like that can even pierce steel plates. Let alone a body of flesh and blood!
Just when the two of them felt powerless, the sound of a mortar bomb could be heard in the sky. And then there was a loud bang and the Black Hawk exploded!
For a moment, the flames were raging up in the sky. It looked like a big firework had bloomed in the sky. It was magnificent and extraordinary. Everyone was delighted to see it.
Shan Ming breathed a sigh of relief. His whole body slumped on the ground. He then said softly: “I only need 0.3 seconds.”
Shen Changze turned his head and said, “What?”
“I only need 0.3 seconds to change the magazine. So you are still out of my league.”
The child pulled Shan Ming out of the hollow and he patted Shan Ming’s face, “Baba, don’t talk. I think you are going to faint.”
Shan Ming sneered and said, “You mean me? You are the one who is about to faint.”
The child looked at his own body and spoke in distress, “I don’t want to faint. What can I do?”
“How do I know what you can do? Just try to stay awake.”
“I can teach you what to do.” A cold voice penetrated the eardrums of the two.
The voice was clear and cold. It sounded like the purest water, without waves or ripples. It is almost incompatible with this chaotic battlefield.
The two turned their heads together. A man wearing a green military uniform covered by a snow-white doctor’s uniform appeared in front of them at some point. He didn’t even have a pistol in his hand. There were only spotless white gloves. He spoke to the radio softly, “I found them.”
Shan Ming and Shen Changze were no strangers to the person standing in front of him.
Although they only met once and it has been five years since then, nobody can easily forget Tang Tingzhi, a human being that didn’t act much like a normal human being.

*Translator’s Note: Some people DM-ed me on Wattpad last week, telling me that another translation group picked up this novel while I was translating the novel. So, I sped up my work. I was attacked before when I picked up ‘Alpha Predator’ and ‘Grey Uncle and the Mixed-blood Prince’ and they reminded me of an “unspoken translation courtesy” which I wasn’t aware of. It made me decide to drop the translation of ‘Grey Uncle …’ out of respect for the other translator. However, as for me, I’m fine with whatever. You may read mine or you may read the other translator’s translation. It’s up to you as long as we all can enjoy the plot of this story. Hopefully, in the future, we can all just drop that “unspoken translation courtesy” since the real owner of the novel is the author, not us, the translators. -K
