Shan Ming treated the injuries on his body. He then packed his stuff into his backpack and planned to leave the forest as soon as possible.

Although the pain and fatigue of the body have reached the limit for ordinary people, he knew that he could not relax at this time. Shan Ming knew that his situation was getting worse and worse. If he didn’t get medicine and treatment, he would definitely die here.

Although he was injured unexpectedly, it was great that he had discovered a river. As long as he followed the path of the river, he would definitely come to a place where people lived. If he’s lucky enough, he could still keep his arm by then.

He endured the pain and threw the packed backpack in front of Shen Changze, “From now on, you will carry this on your back.”

The backpack wasn’t very heavy. It only contained ammunition and the most basic wound medicine. But it was still quite a burden for a five-year-old child. The child however didn’t act like a baby or complain. He simply picked it up and carried it on his back.

Shan Ming picked up a thick and long wooden stick to use as a crutch and he limped downstream along the river.

The child followed him and said softly, “Uncle, thank you.”

Shan Ming ignored him. He now felt that even speaking was a waste of energy.

“If you meet my father, he will definitely thank you very much. My father is a very powerful person.” After the child finished speaking, he took a peek at Shan Ming. He was very disappointed when he saw that Shan Ming didn’t respond to him.

He was silent for a while. He then muttered in a low voice, “Uncle, will you take me home?”

Shan Ming finally spoke, “No.”

The child’s face dropped, “Why not? Uncle, please take me home. My father will give you a lot of money. Please send me home.”

Shan Ming said: “When we get to a place where there are people around, you can figure out your own way. Don’t talk to me from now on.”

Shen Changze opened his mouth to say something but he finally swallowed the words that were about to come out of his mouth.

Because Shan Ming’s foot was injured, his walking speed turned slow. He needed to stop here and there before moving on. He only walked for more than 20 miles in a day. Fortunately, there was nothing dangerous along the way. Shan Ming could clearly feel that the density of the surrounding leaf forest is decreasing and there are fewer animals infesting around. This indicates that they are on the right track and that they are heading in the direction of where people are.

At night, they still lit a fire and rested. Shan Ming felt that the surroundings were much safer but he still did not dare to relax his vigilance. He planned to take turns with Shen Changze to keep watch of the night.

While holding Shan Ming’s watch, the child took the initiative to climb onto him. He looked at him cautiously, as if he was afraid that he would refuse.

Shan Ming only slightly glanced at him. He then closed his eyes, “Wake me up in an hour.”

The child got into his arms with confidence and snuggled where he could feel warm, “I won’t fall asleep.”

An hour later, Shan Ming was woken up on time. He took turns to keep watch for three hours so that Shen Changze could sleep. They just took turns to rest and survived for the night.

Near dusk the next day, they climbed over a mountain and finally saw a village.

The child yelled excitedly a few times. His little body, which looked like it was crushed by the backpack, jumped up and down.

Shan Ming let out a long breath of relief.

They accelerated down the mountain. At the foot of the mountain, they met a local man with a child chopping firewood.

The middle-aged man was startled when he saw them and then wanted to come over.

Shan Ming was extremely vigilant, reaching into his waist to feel for his pistol.

The man came over and babbled a bunch of words in Burmese towards them. But they couldn’t understand the language. In the end, the man became anxious and said something to his son. The child turned around and ran into the village. The man turned his body around and bent down, meaning to help carry Shan Ming on his back.

Shan Ming only looked at him coldly and walked forward while leaning on his cane.

Seeing that Shan Ming ignored him, the man grabbed Shen Changze’s small arm and gestured for him to climb on his back.

The child looked at his dark and thin face and shrank away towards Shan Ming in fear.

The man had no choice but to just lead the way for them.

When they approached the entrance of the village, a group of people ran towards them. They were headed by a tall and burly Caucasian man.

“Shan!” He waved at Shan Ming all the way towards him.

Shan Ming didn’t move forward anymore when he saw them. He threw his crutches and sat on the ground in relief.

The Caucasian man ran up to him as he laughed. He then patted him on the shoulder, “We finally found you. Why are you looking so horrible?”

Shan Ming glared at him, “Stop talking nonsense. Is there a decent doctor here? Or maybe we should go back to the base immediately.”

“Your injury should be attended to as soon as possible.” Two villagers behind him carried a stretcher with them. He pointed at the stretcher and said with a smile, “Or do you need me to carry you, Beautiful?”

Shan Ming climbed onto the stretcher by himself, “Job, I want to talk to the boss.”

“Of course…” Job’s eyes then fell on Shen Changze, “Huh? Why is there a child here? Did you give birth to one?”

“What the fuck. I found him.”

The child looked at the two people inexplicably. They were chattering in a language he could not understand so he tugged at Shan Ming’s sleeve, “Uncle…”

Job squatted down. His bear-like figure shrouded the child in his shadow. Job tried his best to squeeze out a kind smile and said in Chinese with a serious tone change, “Hi, how are you?”

The child was so frightened by the scar on his face and his huge body that he was trembling all over. He threw himself on Shan Ming with tears welling in his eyes, “Uncle, who is he? Is he your friend?”

Shan Ming pushed him off of his body, “Get off.”

Immediately afterwards, Job picked up the child like he was a chicken and carried him under his armpit. The villagers followed him as they carried Shan Ming to the village.

The child screamed in fright, “Uncle! Uncle! Where are you going?! Uncle!”

When they reached the village, Job grinned at Shan Ming a mouthful of white teeth.

“Boss sent several people to search for you in the nearby villages and mountains. We all thought that you would not die easily. But I found you first. Do you wanna know why?” Job cut off a large piece of apple and stuffed it into his own mouth, “Because I’m an expert. I have the radar to spot beauties.”

Shan Ming just changed his wound dressing. Since he was too tired, he was too lazy to joke with him. So he just ignored him.

“But why is your face swollen like this? Pell will definitely be sad when she sees you. It doesn’t matter if you are disfigured. But if you make my goddess Pell sad, I will never forgive you.”

Shan Ming scolded him: “Can you fucking shut up? I want to sleep.”

Job cut off another piece of apple. He was about to put it in his mouth when he suddenly looked at Shen Changze who was crouching in front of Shan Ming’s bed. He brought the knife with the apple stuck on it in front of him, “Kid, do you want some apples?”

The child couldn’t understand what he said but the apple looked very attractive to him. He looked at Job hesitantly before finally mustering up the courage to take the apple from the tip of the knife and stuff it into his mouth.

Job said to Shan Ming with great interest, “Shan, how did you find him? How could you find a child in that god-forsaken place?”

Shan Ming stared at him fiercely, “I want to sleep. Can you just go out now?”

Job curled his lips and smiled, “Okay. I’ll contact the boss so that he’ll send someone to pick us up.” He stood up and smiled at the child as he stretched out his hand, “Kid, come play with me?”

The child was so frightened that he crawled onto the bed and huddled beside Shan Ming.

Job went out dejectedly.

After Job went out, Shan Ming stretched out his hand and pushed Shen Changze to the ground, “You go out too.”

The child whispered, “Can I just stay here? I won’t talk.”

Shan Ming was too tired and too lazy to argue with him. He closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
