Shen Changze was very efficient. He bought a passport and visa at a high price. He then booked a plane ticket and the two of them flew directly to France.

As soon as everyone heard that they were going out to have fun, several of them wanted to tag along with them. Shen Changze knew this would happen so he told them that he would fly the next day after completing all the procedures and he would not take them with him. The assholes would interrupt his vacation with his father.

When they arrived at Cannes Airport, it was already past 11p.m. The airport arranged for a car to pick them up. They both had slept for a long time on the plane so they were still quite energetic at this time. They chatted with the driver and asked him about the situations locally.

Their French was taught by a Moroccan in the mercenary group. So, they had a little bit of an Arabic accent when they spoke. The driver was very intrigued when he heard their accent and he knew they were Chinese so it was very surprising. It was just like asking them about the legendary Chinese Kung Fu secrets. Knowing that they were taught French by Moroccans, he suddenly asked them mysteriously if they had heard of ‘Genting’.

Shan Ming raised his eyebrows and deliberately pretended not to know about it, “Is it the casino in Malaysia?”

“No. No. Although most people think of that when talking about ‘Genting’, the ‘Genting’ I’m talking about is not on the mountain. But it is underground.”

Shen Changze seemed to have a vague impression of this word. Maybe he heard it mentioned when they were drunk.

Shan Ming asked: “Then what is this ‘Genting’?”

“Morocco was colonised by the French for a long time. My grandfather used to be stationed there. He knows a lot of tales about that place.” The big-nosed French driver was obviously a little over-excited as he continued talking enthusiastically: “More than a hundred years ago, when the European and American countries invaded Morocco, an underground fighting arena was established in the border area of the Western Sahara. Many soldiers who were stationed there went to this arena. At first, they just wanted to exchange winning for a bottle of beer or a beautiful woman. But later on, as more people knew about it, even many high-ranking officers participated in it. The bets became bigger. The prize money that the winner could get in the end was unbelievably good. This fighting arena was once closed in more than 100 years because of the war and Western Sahara’s uproar for independence. It was deserted a few times in the middle of the year. But then it flourished again.” The driver touched his nose, “My grandfather said that he had tried going. But his nose was broken by a British guy as soon as he got in the ring. I didn’t even have the chance to try. I grew up listening to his stories when I was young and I always believed that Morocco did have such a fighting arena. It belonged to men who were injured or died or even returned triumphantly with lots of money.” There was a strange look in the driver’s eyes. It was as if at this moment, he imagined himself as a brave and invincible warrior, not a middle-aged man whose bulging stomach was about to hit the steering wheel.

Shan Ming smiled. He slowly leaned back in his seat and jokingly said: “Trust me. You won’t want to go to that place.”

After they got out of the car, Shen Changze gave the driver a large tip as a reward for hearing interesting stories from him when they were on the road.

The two of them entered the hotel room and Shan Ming frowned as he looked at the 2.5m big bed in the middle of the top suite with rose petals covered on it.

Shen Changze put on a distressed look, “How could this be?”

Shan Ming glared at him, “You must’ve made a mistake when booking a room.”

Shen Changze explained: “When I called, I only said I wanted the best room. I didn’t know why this happened. But this room is very beautiful. Baba, look. You can see the Côte d’Azur  from here.”

Shan Ming rolled his eyes. It was no wonder why the waiter who was carrying their luggage looked at them strangely.

He went in in order to shake the blanket so that the bunch of red petals would be shaken off. But Shen Changze yelled, “Wait a minute!”

Shan Ming glanced at him, “Why? Do you still want to keep them?”

A trace of disappointment appeared in Shen Changze’s eyes. He took out his mobile phone, “Baba, at least take a photo of them.”

“You have stayed in ‘Peregrine Falcon’ for ten years. You have suffered whatever it is that you should have suffered. What else are you not happy about? Why take a bloody photo of these things.”

“No. This is the first time we have gone somewhere just us two. So we must take photos.” Shen Changze threw his arms around Shan Ming’s shoulders and pointed the camera at themselves. He took a photo with the huge bed filled with rose petals in the background. He then happily took the phone aside and looked at the photos.

Shan Ming pulled the blanket and shook the petals to the ground. He then threw himself on the bed and let out a comfortable moan.

Shen Changze also lay down on the bed, “Baba, are you sleepy?”

“Very sleepy. It was not comfortable sleeping on the plane.”

“Are you hungry? Thirsty?”

“Not hungry nor thirsty.”

“Then what are we going to do now?”

“I have no idea.”

Shen Changze turned his body sideways and looked at Shan Ming’s tightly closed long and curled eyelashes. He felt an itch in his heart and said softly, “Then let’s have a chat. Baba, have you never really heard about that ‘Genting’ that the driver was talking about?”

Shan Ming slowly opened his eyes, looking at the gorgeous pale gold ceiling, “Hmm. I’ve actually been there.”

“You’ve been there?”

“Yes. When I was fourteen years old, the former boss of ‘Peregrine Falcon’ died. And there were hardly a few people left in our regiment. So I went there with Tiger Shark and Ayer.”

Shen Changze knew that they had encountered a huge setback in Yunnan when Shan Ming was fourteen years old. But Shan Ming didn’t tell him that it was his own kind who did it. He asked, “Why did you go there?”

“The purpose of going was originally to recruit people. I also wanted to get some money along the way. The situation at that time was so bad. Most people in our regiment were dead. And there was not much money. If we want to rebuild the ‘Peregrine Falcon’, we need money because people like money more than anything else.”

“What happened after that?”

“After I went there, I did make some money. But I didn’t take any of them with me.”

“Why is that?”

Shan Ming narrowed his eyes. A look of disgust flashed across his face, “Because it was no longer a fighting arena. Although it should be called a fighting arena, those who stand on the arena for money are all useless.”

Shen Changze said, “Why did you say that?”

“In order to win lots of money, they all inject drugs on their body for a long time. It had become an ‘unspoken requirement’ in the fighting arena. This is because after the drugs were injected, those people will become extremely bloodthirsty, violent, and devoid of humanity. Even if the opponent surrenders, they will continue to attack until the other party is killed and that is what the audience wants to see. It is a very disgusting place. Those people may even forget who they really are in the end.”

Shen Changze became interested and asked: “If they didn’t inject the drugs, they can’t beat their opponents? They know the harm so why don’t they quit it? The money must be gained for a certain purpose. But if you forget who you are, what’s the point of having money?”

“It’s not that simple. We can’t take people away from there. Another reason is that most of the people there are scammed into collecting money and they signed a contract with the employer. If they break the contract, they have to pay a high fine. Imagine those people who go to the fighting arena with confidence, but in the end find that they can’t beat anyone and they may die in the arena at any time. So, the employer’s contract is strangled around their necks. They have no choice but to inject drugs on their body because their opponents also do the same. Hence, the vicious circle continues. The so-called free fighters who signed up without knowing anything like us in the beginning almost no longer exist now. This is because there is a possibility of being killed by those people when they get in the ring. We are just normal people who have not injected any drugs. So, who dares to go? Thus, ‘Genting’ has long lost its original meaning of free fighting. It has become a fighting arena for rich owners who spend a lot of money to buy wild animals and then domesticate them. They will let them fight in duels and reap high rewards from the bets.”

Shen Changze lay beside Shan Ming and gently touched his ear, “Baba, did you almost die there?”

Shan Ming is not willing to recall that experience. It was not because of fear. But it was due to his disgust looking at those wild animal-like people after injecting drugs. Not to mention, he almost lost Ayer at that time. He nodded and said: “Hmm, almost. But fortunately, we didn’t form any contract. As long as we survive one game, we can take the money and leave if we want to. They don’t care about only a few hundreds of thousands of dollars. But now it’s no longer the same. The last time I heard about that place, if a strong person wins a game, those rich owners will try their best to keep them. They may not be able to leave even if they want to.”

Shen Changze smiled slightly, “It’s very interesting. I would like to try it.”

Shan Ming glanced at him, “No.”

“Why not? Are you worried that I will lose?”

“It’s not that. I know you won’t lose. But you would have been driven to a dead end. Do you think it’s fun to become a Dragon Blood Man in front of thousands of people? The Dragon Blood Man experiment, I don’t need to tell you this. You know that it is top state secret. Eleven though I have no obligation to help those people keep the secrets, I know that if this secret is leaked, it will definitely cause trouble even for myself. So please calm down. Don’t think about these useless things. We are here only to have fun this time. “

Shen Changze just casually said so. He didn’t really want to risk his life during a good vacation. He then said contentedly when he heard Shan Ming’s words, “Baba is just worried about me.”

Shan Ming yawned, “I’m hungry after talking so much to you. Go get me something to eat.”

“What would Baba want to eat?”

“Anything.”

Shen Changze went to the living room to look through the menu for a while. He then called to order some food. When he returned to the room, Shan Ming had already fallen asleep.

This is a habit developed throughout years of a mercenary career. A qualified soldier must be able to withstand not sleeping for a few days and must force himself to sleep when he has the opportunity to sleep in order to maintain the best physical strength. Nowadays, Shan Ming just needs to close his eyes and he can fall asleep at any time. So he has fallen asleep now.

He just lay sprawled on the big rose-coloured bed. His black hair, which he forgot to trim, was a little long. It hung around his face, making his handsome face look a bit fairer than usual. His slender legs were wrapped in jeans. Half of them were drooping outside the bed, looking casual and lazy. That unadorned sexiness made Shen Changze’s face flushed.

His father was in the top honeymoon suite by the blue coast. He was just sleeping right in front of him defenselessly, lying on a rose-coloured bed sheet. It was as if… he was just like his bride…

Shen Changze couldn’t restrain his wonderful fantasies so he just walked over. He wanted to climb onto his father and do to him what he always wanted to do to him.

He walked over slowly. Shan Ming realised that someone was approaching. No matter how sleepy he was, he woke up immediately, “The food is here?”

“No. They’ll send it over in a while.”

“Oh.” Shan Ming turned over.

“Baba, after flying for so long, you don’t even take a shower.”

“Don’t wanna shower.” Shan Ming was as lazy as he could be in life. Meanwhile, it was Shen Changze who even washed his underwear and socks. It was impossible to expect him to take a bath diligently every day.

“Then let me wipe your face.”

“Hmm.”

Shen Changze moistened a towel with warm water. He then sat on the bed and pulled Shan Ming’s head over. He gently wiped his face. After wiping, he traced Shan Ming’s facial features with his fingers and massaged his scalp using his fingertips for a bit.

Shan Ming narrowed his eyes comfortably, enjoying himself.

After massaging it for a while, seeing Shan Ming’s drowsy appearance, Shen Changze helped him take off his shoes and jeans. He then kissed him lightly on the forehead and said softly, “Baba, go to sleep. When the food is here, I’ll call you.”

Shan Ming gave a soft “Hmm”. A smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.

*Translator’s Note: ‘Genting’ is ‘Genting Highlands’ in Malaysia. There’s a big casino up in the mountains. I’ve been there before. I’ve never been to a fighting arena before. I couldn’t even stand the smells of sweats at the gym, how can I stand the smells of a fighting arena? I’ll die without even getting into the ring! -K
