After Shen Changze took care of Shan Ming’s leg injury, he helped him downstairs. Shen Changze stopped a taxi on the street. The two of them were silent all the way but Shen Changze kept holding Shan Ming’s waist domineeringly.
After driving more than 20 kilometres, the car stopped at the gate of a villa area. The two got out of the car. Shen Changze helped him to walk into the community.
“Where are we going?”
“You’ll know when you get there.”
“Don’t lead me around. I still have missions to complete.”
“I’m taking you on a mission now.”
“Your mission is none of my business. I need to contact Ayer immediately.”
“You’ll see Ayer soon.”
Shan Ming frowned and said, “What do you mean by this? Why do you involve us in your mission?”
Shen Changze was a little irritated by Shan Ming segregating him with the ‘Peregrine Falcon’. So he said coldly: “Tang Tingzhi is currently negotiating the terms of employment with Ayer. The negotiation is probably completed by now. ‘Peregrine Falcon’ is hired by us.”
Shan Ming was stunned, “Why is that?”
“Because ‘Peregrine Falcon’ is the only mercenary regiment that has the experience of fighting against Dragon Blood people. And they are not afraid of them. It is not convenient for us to move anywhere, especially in Japan. But the ‘Peregrine Falcon’ can move freely under the protection of the underworld. Tang Jingzhi has great ambitions and has people working for him all over the world. It has already caused us great losses so we must destroy him in one fell swoop this time.”
Shan Ming thought for a while. It is very common and reasonable for the government to find mercenaries when it is inconvenient for them to deploy their own armed forces. Moreover, they have indeed fought against the Dragon Blood people before. They already know this secret so it made sense that they hired ‘Peregrine Falcon’. It also could avoid the risk of secondary leak of experimental products. Thus, the entire employment relationship was reasonable. But Shan Ming still felt very awkward.
Although ‘Peregrine Falcon’ has never refused a door-to-door order because of the difficult task, Shan Ming still does not want ‘Peregrine Falcon’ to have anything to do with the Dragon Blood people and their ‘National Weapons Program’ in his heart. Knowing a country’s important secrets is not a good thing. It may bring them unpredictable disasters.
But even if he thought about it worriedly, he still felt that he could not prevent the formation of an employment relationship. Apart from the generous remuneration, the hatred and huge challenges given to them by creatures like Dragon Blood people alone made these brave international exiles ready to peel off the scales of the Dragon Blood Man. Shan Ming couldn’t restrain himself from wanting to fight the Dragon Blood Man to the end.
Shen Changze lowered his head and pressed the tip of his nose against Shan Ming’s hair, “Once this mission is over, you will return to China with me.”
Shan Ming turned his head away, “I won’t go back to China with you. You can only take my dead body back with you.”
Shen Changze said in a deep voice: “If I tie you up, I can still take you back. You owe me this much.”
Shan Ming snorted, “I never owe you anything. If you have had any bad time in the past four years, it is because your parents gave birth to you with this identity. That is the fate you have to accept. Instead, it is because of me and you managed to escape that fate for ten years. So put away all of your boring resentment.”
Shen Changze pinched his chin. His black eyes were filled with anger under the night. His pupils were looking like a bottomless pit, “You don’t understand why I’m angry with you at all, do you?”
Shan Ming grabbed his hand. He tightened his fingers and cracked Shen Changze’s wrist. He growled, “Of course I understand. It’s because you bastard dared to have feelings for me!”
“You understand shit! Did you know how I feel when I wake up and I don’t see you?! I kissed you when I was out of control and when I realised that I had no excuses for my actions, I told you that I like you. But what happened then?” Shen Changze’s eyes displayed fierceness, “You not only gave me your clear rejection. But you also left me in despair. You said you understand? What do you understand? Do you think I hate you for rejecting me? I fucking hate you for throwing me away! I hate you for cutting off even the slight chance of letting me stay by your side!”
Shan Ming looked at the resentment and struggle in his eyes. He felt deeply helpless. He whispered: “I sent you away not because of that. But it was for the safety of the ‘Peregrine Falcon’.”
Shen Changze laughed back angrily, “Then why didn’t you come with me? You chose ‘Peregrine Falcon’ but you gave up on me. My safety is nothing in your eyes? ‘Peregrine Falcon’ will be one of the best mercenary regiments with or without you. But I…I needed you more.” Shen Changze tremblingly said: “I needed you more. Why couldn’t you be with me?!”
Shan Ming could not answer this question.
He is used to the wandering life of a mercenary and he has a strong sense of belonging in the ‘Peregrine Falcon’. He wants to live on the battlefield until he dies on the battlefield. He has never thought about the possibility of living another life nor has he ever thought about leaving Peregrine for anyone.
He didn’t owe Shen Changze anything. He had no obligation to go with him. He couldn’t even imagine that the son he brought up was lusting over him. But looking into Shen Changze’s eyes at the moment, he couldn’t say anything.
Shen Changze looked at Shan Ming who’s not saying anything. His heart was so uncomfortable that he couldn’t breathe. No matter how he struggled to use various forces and how much he wanted to be with him, the other person no longer wanted him. Abandoning him didn’t even need an explanation or goodbye. He would never forget it in his life. He woke up in the cold laboratory, knowing that he had been abandoned by Shan Ming.
He was suspicious, angry, and even wanted to run away. He wanted to hear Shan Ming say that he was no longer wanted himself. But when he accidentally discovered that the name engraved on the soldier card around his neck was ‘Shan’, he realised that it was really Shan Ming who handed him over to Tang Tingzhi.
He came over from the darkest time. After he had the authority to act freely, the first thing he did was to come back to look for Shan Ming. He wanted to get back everything he had lost. He wanted everything that he had desired!
Just when the two were stuck in a stalemate, the communicator on Shen Changze’s body rang and he connected dumbly. Tang Tingzhi’s voice could be heard clearly in the quiet night, “I’ve seen you. Why are you not moving? Come in right now.”
Shen Changze tightened the communicator into his clothes. He displayed coldness on his face and dragged Shan Ming into the innermost villa.
The door of the villa was opened from the inside. A dazed young man who opened the door gave a military salute to Shen Changze, “Major!”
Shen Changze returned him a military salute. He then walked into the villa. Tang Tingzhi and the ‘Peregrine Falcon’ sat in the living room and watched them. There were also two faces that Shan Ming had never seen before, including the person who opened the door for them. They should be soldiers.
The mercenaries of /Peregrine Falcon/ all set their eyes on Shen Changze, looking at this familiar yet unfamiliar young man.
Jushi walked up to him, “Boy, you grew taller than me.”
Shen Changze looked at these people who had watched him grow up and felt a little emotional in his heart. It was as if he had returned to the life where he fought side by side with them. Everyone here has a part in contributing to his growth. Thinking of this, his jealousy towards the ‘Peregrine Falcon’ that arose because of Shan Ming’s choice also faded a little bit. His cold expression also melted down.
He bumped the shoulder of Jushi, “I’m only nineteen years old. I can still grow.”
Jushi laughed loudly. He put his arms around Shen Changze’s shoulders, “You boy has finally grown up. You’re finally grown up.”
Both Lily and Job jumped over. They happily pinched and touched Shen Changze around until Shen Changze broke free from their hands.
When Shen Changze was dragged by a group of people to reminisce about the old days, Tang Tingzhi put his eyes on Shan Ming. He nodded slightly at Shan Ming, “Mr. Shan, it’s been a while.”
Shan Ming was frustrated by Shen Changze’s bossiness all day so he didn’t show any courtesy towards him. He rolled his eyes at Tang Tingzhi and walked to Tiger Shark, “How’s the mission going?”
Tiger Shark glanced at him, “Which mission are you referring to?”
Shan Ming asked back: “Which mission did you think I mean?”
Ayer’s slender fingers tapped on the computer keyboard. While typing, he said: “The mission for the Mochizuki Group has been completed. The liquidation and also his employment task were also completed,” Ayer’s graceful chin lifted towards Tang Tingzhi’s direction “I just received the deposit.” He then snapped his fingers, “The Chinese government is so generous.”
Shan Ming knew it. Even if they were asked to go to the sky to pick the moon for them, as long as they were given enough money, Ayer would not refuse. But he still asked unhappily, “You guys agreed so easily?”
Pell was sharpening her nails carefully. She said quietly: “Who said we agreed easily? Ayer negotiated the price with him for half an hour.”
Ayer defended: “I didn’t negotiate the price with him. I was just listing the charges.”
The two soldiers behind Tang Tingzhi looked uncomfortable. They were probably offended by Ayer’s big mouth.
Tang Tingzhi, however, was very indifferent, “I will try my best to meet your requirements. But in addition to the tasks mentioned above, you also need to protect my safety.”
Ayer raised his eyebrows, showing an evil smile, “That… will cost you extra.” After speaking, he deliberately looked at him arrogantly.
Tang Tingzhi was indeed unaware of his hidden meaning. He only nodded: “No problem. But please remember, Mr. Mauri, if you cannot complete the task, or if my brain is damaged during this operation, then we have the right to refuse to pay the balance.”
Ayer felt bored by his reaction. He shook his head, “You mean…it doesn’t matter if you lose your arms or legs as long as you keep your valuable head?”
“Theoretically, I don’t want to get hurt anywhere else. The pain will reduce my ability to move and think. But given the high risk of this mission, my brain is…”
Ayer waved his hand impatiently, “Okay, let’s stop talking nonsense. It’s best if you become a fool or a crazy person.”
Tang Tingzhi shook his head seriously, “I can’t become a fool. The intelligence test shows that I don’t have any mental problems…”
Ayer gave him a fierce look, “Shut up!”
Tang Tingzhi closed his mouth. He rolled his eyes as he tried to find the reason why Ayer became angry again.
