“But I can take photos, you know.”

“It’s just a simple compact digital camera though…” Fujimori added. Julian, having finished his tart, placed the plate on the side table and casually perched on the armrest of Fujimori’s chair, just as he used to do.

“I bet I can capture some really good expressions of yours,” Fujimori said with a nod, taking the plate from Julian’s hand, who leaned in and kissed him.

“I think I could capture lots of charming expressions that even you don’t know you have,” Fujimori continued, as he tangled his fingers in Julian’s blond hair. He gently caressed his cheek.

Julian kissed Fujimori’s fingers, then leaned further in to press his lips to Fujimori’s again.

During their kiss, Fujimori stroked Julian’s strong neck and ears. He then traced the straight bridge of his nose.

The painful scar that once marred that high nose had disappeared. Julian’s expressions had also softened. Fujimori noticed more often a relaxed demeanour of his. There was even a hint of dependence on him.

Fujimori had come to believe that Julian’s frequent need for physical affection wasn’t just because he was German. But rather due to his wolf-like nature.

Whether a werewolf shared all the traits of a wolf was uncertain. But Fujimori had read online that wolves had strong pair bonds, always staying close together. Unlike humans, they didn’t cheat and they stayed together all the time. They didn’t just stay together during child-rearing or when grooming each other. This reminded Fujimori of how Julian would always seek him out, wanting to be near him.

“Then maybe I’ll hang that painting of Kenji in this room? I really like it…” Julian murmured to himself, glancing around the study.

Though the mansion he had in Germany wasn’t small, it didn’t seem to hold many fond memories for Julian. When asked if he planned to go back, he responded vaguely, “Eventually…” without much enthusiasm.

Due to visa issues, Julian would have to return to Germany at some point. But since he mentioned wanting to use a kotatsu in Fujimori’s room during winter, it seemed he intended to stay here through the colder months.

Fujimori had warned him that this area would be snowbound in winter, making life quite harsh. But Julian insisted that winters in Germany were undoubtedly harsher.

“So, maybe that frame…-” Julian began to say. But Fujimori cut him off with a kiss on the tip of his nose.

“No rush. But when it’s finished, can you give it to me?” Fujimori asked, recalling the gold-framed picture that Julian had shredded almost immediately after it was made.

It had been a beautiful frame, a heartfelt gift.

Although Fujimori had been too embarrassed to carry around a picture of himself, he now regretted not taking it home. If he had, it might still be in his possession.

“I want to frame a photo of you in it,” Fujimori added.

“My photo?” Julian asked, looking puzzled.

“Yes. Because in my mind, you’re like a ‘forest,’ Julian.”

Upon hearing this, Julian smiled with an endearingly bashful expression.

His face was, of course, stunningly beautiful. But lately, Fujimori found himself increasingly drawn to Julian’s character as well. He gently curled Julian’s soft blond hair with his fingers.

It didn’t matter if Julian was a werewolf or not. Fujimori knew him to be a truly adorable, delicate, and lonely soul.

As Fujimori embraced him, that sweet, intoxicating scent filled his senses.

Is this some kind of pheromone? Fujimori wondered as he let his fingers trail from Julian’s hair down to his neck and collar as they shared soft, lingering kisses.

Julian seemed to understand Fujimori’s intentions, for he looked into his eyes with those silvery, wet-looking irises and gently pulled Fujimori closer.

Julian shifted his position. Fujimori found himself in a posture of proud display on Julian’s lap.

“It’s broad daylight,” Fujimori murmured in Japanese. It was as if he was questioning his own sanity. Julian, understanding the sentiment, cast a fleeting glance out of the bright window.

Julian’s shirt buttons were undone. Fujimori’s fingers slowly traced over the firm, well-defined chest muscles beneath.

“Kenji…”

Julian’s voice, soft and raspy with sweetness, called out Fujimori’s name.

As Julian’s arms wrapped around his waist, Fujimori pressed his lips against Julian’s once more, deeply and passionately.

The vast expanse of Julian’s palate enveloped Fujimori’s lips with a consuming intensity.

As the sweet fragrance grew richer, Fujimori pressed his exposed skin against Julian’s, teasing him. His fingers then slid down to Julian’s lower abdomen and beyond.

*Translator’s Note: It’s done. How dare the author end it with a cliffhanger! Hahahaha! 🤣 This novel felt quite ‘otherworldly’ for me. It’s like I’ve been transferred to another world. It was gentle and sweet. Something I rarely see in Chinese Web Novels. I read this novel back in 2014 or 2015 but I only now thought of sharing it on the site. I think it’ll be a waste for you guys not to be introduced to Japanese light novels worth to be appreciated. They are physical novels though. I don’t know if anyone can get the web version or something like that but I’ve always preferred a physical novel.

I’ll be translating an omegaverse novel next, also a Japanese light novel. I feel like it’s necessary to introduce this author. I saw some translators had translated some of this author’s works but not the series I’m planning to translate. I really like this series. We have a feisty tsundere cat-like uke (omega) and a puppy-like possessive seme (alpha). There are 4 volumes, the smut is satisfying and the storyline is good for an omegaverse (except for the crime part, which I think is too straightforward). I hope you guys will like it. -K

Hello, this is Kawai, writing for the first time with SHY Novel. Please note that the following contains significant spoilers, so if you haven’t read the main story yet, I recommend doing so before reading this.

This time, I wrote with the image of a charming fable or fairy tale in mind.

When it was decided that the illustrations would be by Ms. Suoh Yuumi, I thought her art would beautifully capture the long, mediaeval Gothic-style garments. This led me to think of settings suited to such attire, like Beauty and the Beast or perhaps something with blue hair? Thus, this story came to be.

My focus on werewolves was simply because I really liked the stoic and solitary protagonist, Fuse Kazuki, from director Hiroyuki Okiura’s anime ‘Jin-Rou: The Wolf Brigade’. I’m sorry, but I didn’t realise it was a ‘kemonomimi’ (animal ears) theme until my editor pointed it out. I also wondered if such a setting would be acceptable for the two cats in the story. But it wasn’t until my editor said, “It’s a ‘bakeneko’, right?” that I realised it was actually a ‘bakeneko’ setting. I apologise for being so clueless.

And then, it was a modern story. So I couldn’t include Gothic-style clothing in the narrative. But I was thrilled to see Julian’s character in Gothic attire in the illustrations! Additionally, we were treated to a lavish full-page illustration on the back cover, where Julian is also dressed in classic attire. How luxurious! Thank you so much, Ms. Suoh.

I would be truly satisfied if you can see Julian as a werewolf rather than just a wolfman. The fact that he turned out to be such a timid wolf was quite an unexpected development on my part…

But it turns out there are many passionate wolf fans out there. While looking at numerous photos of wolves taken by these fans at domestic zoos, I’ve become reasonably good at distinguishing their faces. For instance, Jay, the leader of the wolves at Maruyama Zoo in Hokkaido, is a strikingly handsome wolf who truly looks the part of a leader. He somewhat resembles Ethan Hawke… or is that just me? There are few zoos with wolves in Kansai, so I am currently very eager to visit Hokkaido.

I apologise sincerely for the delay in my work, which caused inconvenience to Ms. Suoh, my editor, and everyone involved. I am truly sorry.
