Upon landing on the Capital Planet, the group quickly transferred to a hovercar and rushed to the hospital, only arriving shortly before noon. Unable to reach Chu Huai and others by phone, Chu Rong, noticing the frantic little golden dragon, pulled him into his arms and contacted the hospital directly, learning Gu Yan’an’s room number.
Using a special route, they quickly reached the ward floor. The little golden dragon suddenly began to struggle and, in a flash of golden light, flew towards a particular room.
Understanding the urgency, Chu Rong quickened his pace, following closely.
The door to the room was slightly ajar, and voices could be heard inside. Qiao Zhiya slipped through the gap, immediately spotting Gu Yan’an, who looked pale on the bed, and detected a faint scent of blood. He was so startled that he rushed over and landed on the edge of the bed, instantly releasing his wood-element magic.
Chu Huai, who was sitting beside Gu Yan’an, comforting her, looked up, surprised and delighted, and asked, “When did you arrive? Where’s Xiao Rong?”
As he spoke, Chu Rong entered the room, followed by Qiao Yi and Mi Lai.
Chu Huai, clearly relieved, squeezed Gu Yan’an’s hand before standing up to greet them.
Qiao Zhiya, who had scanned Gu Yan’an with his magic and found that she was merely experiencing normal post-birth weakness, began to relax. Just as he was about to speak, Gu Yan’an suddenly sat up and pulled him into her arms, crying softly.
Qiao Zhiya froze, then panicked, noticing the absence of the baby in the room. He anxiously looked around, making a distressed noise, then realized that Gu Yan’an couldn’t understand him and looked pleadingly at Chu Rong.
Chu Rong, who had just finished greeting Chu Huai, noticed the crying and Qiao Zhiya’s distressed noises. He approached the bed and gently asked, “Dasao, what’s wrong?”
Gu Yan’an glanced at him, then burst into more tears.
“The baby… Is there something wrong with the baby?” Qiao Zhiya flapped his wings in panic.
Chu Rong turned to Chu Huai, who seemed unconcerned. Chu Huai, half-amused and half-exasperated, sat back down beside Gu Yan’an, only to be pushed away.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry. You just had a baby, and getting too emotional can affect your health.” He tried to soothe her, sighing before turning to Chu Rong. “It’s like this: the baby is fine. He has high spiritual power and is currently in a stabilization unit. He’ll be brought here in an hour. Yan’an is upset because the baby is a boy. You know, she always wanted a girl.”
He ended with a chuckle, seemingly amused by his wife’s rare display of childishness.
Gu Yan’an, still crying, grew more upset seeing her husband laugh and hit him, finally speaking through her tears, “He even looks like you! Exactly like you! I look at Qiao’s photo every day, but he still looks like you! He might as well look like me!”
She glanced at the little golden dragon in her arms, his green eyes wide with confusion, and cried even harder.
Chu Huai, no longer smiling, gently comforted her, wiping her tears. “Our son must look like us. Aren’t you a doctor yourself? Why did you believe in such a silly superstition?”
As a new mother who just gave birth, her mood fluctuation was unstable and she couldn’t be reasoned easily. Gu Yan’an finally couldn’t stand her husband’s disinterest. She lifted a pillow and shoved it on his face, while holding Qiao Zhiya, crying.
Qiao Zhiya, now calmed by the reassurance that the baby was fine, felt helpless, wrapping his tail around Gu Yan’an’s wrist, unsure of what to do next.
He wasn’t good at comforting crying women. W-what should he do….?
Chu Huai, realizing his wife’s distress was deepening, quickly took the little dragon from her and handed him to Chu Rong, signaling them to leave. He sat beside Gu Yan’an, soothing her quietly.
Understanding the need to give the couple privacy, Chu Rong led the still-worried Qiao Zhiya, along with Qiao Yi and Mi Lai, out of the room. They found a nurse and inquired about the baby’s location, then headed there.
The nursery for newborns with high spiritual power was a secure area, usually reserved for babies with A-level or higher spiritual strength. Chu Huai’s explanation had been vague, so they assumed the baby was S-level. However, upon arriving, they found neither Chu Yan nor the baby there.
“Could it be that the baby isn’t S-class?” Qiao Zhiya wondered, feeling increasingly anxious.
Chu Rong, sensing something, led them past the SS-class area to the special SSS-class area, where they indeed found Chu Yan, peering through the observation glass into an incubator room.
Seeing this, Qiao Zhiya’s eyes lit up. He quickly flew over, pressing himself against the glass, eyes wide in anticipation.
In the Federation, the number of SSS-class spiritually gifted newborns each year could be counted on one hand, and sometimes years would pass without a single one being born. The special incubator room was thus usually quite empty.
Qiao Zhiya immediately spotted a chubby baby sleeping sweetly in a transparent incubator. He was so excited that his tail stiffened, and he scratched at the glass, as if wanting to stretch his neck inside. He couldn’t help but let out a low trill.
Though the glass was soundproof and isolated spiritual energy, the chubby baby inside seemed to hear Qiao Zhiya’s call. The baby’s eyes slowly opened, his pupils moved slightly, and then he suddenly started crying.
“He’s crying! What do we do? Is he hungry?” Chu Yan exclaimed, jumping up in concern.
Qiao Zhiya also scratched at the glass harder, chirping anxiously.
The more Qiao Zhiya called, the louder the baby cried. Amidst the commotion, a nurse inside the room quickly approached, checked on the baby, and skillfully retrieved a small bottle of warm milk. She opened the incubator and placed the bottle in the baby’s mouth.
The baby immediately stopped crying and began to drink contentedly.
“He’s drinking! The baby is drinking,” Chu Yan announced, moving around like an excited monkey, trying to see the baby more clearly.
Qiao Zhiya was equally thrilled, flapping his wings so vigorously that he accidentally hit Chu Yan’s head, which he didn’t even notice.
Both were glued to the glass, looking like fools. Chu Rong, silent, reached out to grab the little golden dragon but was swatted away. He then called Chu Yan, who also ignored him.
Feeling a bit out of place in this unfamiliar familial dynamic, Chu Rong also peered into the room.
The newborn had a small appetite and soon finished drinking. After the nurse gently wiped the baby’s mouth and wrapped him snugly in a blanket, he closed his eyes and went back to sleep, looking so sweet it could melt anyone’s heart.
“So well-behaved…” Chu Yan murmured.
“So adorable,” Qiao Zhiya chirped.
Inside the room, the nurse suddenly noticed something unusual and walked over to check a monitoring device. The spiritual energy readings, which had been unstable, had leveled off. This was surprising, as it generally took half an hour to an hour in the incubator for newborns to stabilize, especially those with higher spiritual levels like this SSS-class baby. Yet, it had only been twenty minutes.
After triple-checking the readings and confirming the instruments were working correctly, the nurse smiled, thinking the baby had remarkably calm and stable spiritual energy.
She printed out the report and, after consulting with a doctor, exited the incubator room. Seeing Chu Rong, she smiled warmly and said, “Are you the family? You can prepare to take the baby back to the mother’s ward.”
Chu Yan and Qiao Zhiya immediately turned, one startled by Chu Rong’s sudden appearance and the other excitedly flying towards the nurse, chirping inquiries about the baby’s condition.
The nurse, not understanding Qiao Zhiya’s chirping, looked puzzled and then turned to Chu Rong, cautioning, “It’s fine to give the baby soft toys or pets, but make sure they have no sharp claws and are of a gentle nature.”
Qiao Zhiya, mistaken for a pet, looked down at his own sharp claws, recalling the baby’s delicate skin, and quickly tucked his claws away, crossing his paws in front of him.
Taking the opportunity, Chu Rong scooped Qiao Zhiya into his arms, nodding to the nurse and thanking her before knocking Chu Yan on the head to bring him back to reality and started organizing the baby’s return to the ward.
Fifteen minutes later, the sleeping baby was wheeled back to the ward by Chu Rong. Qiao Zhiya curled up at one corner of the cot, his tail held by the sleeping baby, his eyes sparkling with joy.
By this time, Gu Yan’an had been comforted by Chu Huai. Seeing Chu Rong and Qiao Zhiya return, she carefully checked them over, only relaxing after ensuring they were okay. She then turned her gaze to the baby, a warm smile spreading across her face.
Although the gender wasn’t what she expected, how could she not love the child she gave birth to?
The family gathered around happily to watch the baby, while Mi Lai stood to the side, feeling a shallow sense of regret turning into a deep sadness.
Qiao Yi suddenly took her hand and led her out of the room.
“What’s wrong?” Mi Lai asked, confused.
Qiao Yi didn’t answer but pulled out a free safety guide booklet from the hospital and flipped to the section about childbirth.
Mi Lai’s eyes followed the text, initially confused. Then, when she saw a certain line, her eyes widened, and she grabbed the booklet.
Although her vocabulary in the lingua franca was limited, she could understand all the content on this page! All of it!
“Qi-Qiao Yi?” Her hand started trembling as she looked up at her husband’s face.
Qiao Yi held her hand, his eyes lighting up with anticipation, and he nodded slightly, saying, “Qiaoqiao has dragon genes. If the technology permits, the success rate of him and a human having children is 100%.”
In other words, if the two of them were willing, having little dwarves or little elves wasn’t just a dream!
Mi Lai’s grip on the booklet tightened, and she looked down to confirm the conditions for having children as a couple. The thought of becoming a grandmother suddenly overwhelmed her, and without thinking, she rushed into the hospital room and pulled Chu Rong out.
Chu Rong was puzzled but followed her out and asked, “Father, Mother, what’s the matter?”
Mi Lai stepped forward, eagerly asking, “When are you planning to marry our darling?”
‘Huh?’
Chu Rong instinctively straightened his back, his expression becoming serious. After scanning Mi Lai and Qiao Yi’s faces and confirming they were serious, he paused and then replied earnestly, “If possible, tomorrow.”
No matter why Qiao’s parents asked this question, the opportunity was presented to him, and only a fool wouldn’t seize it!
Now it was Mi Lai and Qiao Yi’s turn to straighten their backs. Their initial excitement at the mention of “tomorrow” was quickly doused as they remembered their son was still a young dragon. One had a flash of killing intent in their eyes, and the other froze with a blank expression.
“You’re dreaming!” Mi Lai exploded, looking at Chu Rong as if he were a pervert trying to abduct a kindergarten child.
Chu Rong frowned, feeling something was off with the situation.
“Tomorrow at the arena, don’t be late,” Qiao Yi added, pulling his angry wife along and giving Chu Rong a cold look before leading her back into the room.
“Bang!”
They even considerately closed the hospital room door, leaving Chu Rong outside alone.
Chu Rong: “…”
It seems… he had misunderstood and chose the wrong answer…
