DHWB Chapter 10

However, Fang Shucheng quickly regained his senses.

He glanced at their rather compromising position, and with an internal smirk, said, “Alright, I’ll let you touch.”

Wei Jie was ecstatic. “You know where to touch, right?”

“Yeah.”

Fang Shucheng reached down, and Wei Jie held his breath.

When Fang Shucheng’s hand grabbed hold, Wei Jie’s breathing grew heavier.

Then, Fang Shucheng suddenly tightened his grip, and Wei Jie’s expression froze.

Clutching between his legs, Wei Jie yelped dramatically, “Murder! Someone’s trying to murder their husband!”

Fang Shucheng snorted.

Wei Jie, playing up the hurt, whined, “You broke it! Now I’m completely ruined.” With a defeated air, he trudged off to the bathroom to wash up.

Fang Shucheng stood there, dumbfounded. “…”

The sound of running water in the bathroom didn’t stop. Feeling a bit guilty, Fang Shucheng hesitantly crept over and whispered, “Is it really broken? I didn’t use that much force, did I?”

Wei Jie glanced at him but remained silent.

Nervously, Fang Shucheng gave Wei Jie a gentle push, “It’s not, is it?”

Wei Jie looked dramatically sorrowful, “You don’t believe me? Come check for yourself.”

Suspicious, Fang Shucheng asked, “You’re not just messing with me, are you?”

Wei Jie, suppressing a grin, sighed with feigned sadness, “If that’s what you think, then sure, maybe I am.”

Reluctantly, Fang Shucheng gave in. “Fine, let me see.”

Without hesitation, Wei Jie dropped his pants. The “injured” area stood proudly, very much intact.

Fang Shucheng reached out to touch it, and the thing immediately responded by becoming hard and even larger.

Panicking, Fang Shucheng spun around, “Is this what you call broken? You shameless pervert!”

Wei Jie burst out laughing and pulled Fang Shucheng into a hug, rubbing against him playfully. “It’s definitely broken—look how swollen it is!”

Fang Shucheng was exasperated, “Do you think I’m a three-year-old?”

Wei Jie smirked and asked cheekily, “Have you ever… done it?”

Fang Shucheng blinked, confused, “Done what?”

Wei Jie leaned in, his voice suggestive, “With your hand.”

Fang Shucheng’s face turned beet red.

Wei Jie immediately knew from his expression, “You have!”

Fang Shucheng stammered, “N-no! Let me go!”

Wei Jie, like a dog in heat, clung to him, “No way, teach me.”

“You’re a pervert!” Fang Shucheng yelled, his face now crimson.

Wei Jie was completely unfazed, “C’mon, it’s freezing down there.”

Fang Shucheng: “…”

Completely at a loss, Fang Shucheng finally gave in and used his hand to help. He had only ever done it to himself a few times, so his technique was far from skilled. It hurt Wei Jie a little, but the thought that Fang Shucheng was the one doing it made him more excited than usual. He finished faster than he ever had.

Wei Jie, now eager to return the favor, tried to help Fang Shucheng, but Fang Shucheng flatly refused and fled home as fast as he could.

Watching him disappear inside his house, Wei Jie whistled contentedly, twirling his keys on his finger as he made his way home.

Upon arriving, Wei Jie was surprised to see the light on in his parents’ bedroom.

He paused, thinking he must have left it on by mistake. But when he walked in, his mother was sitting there, her expression grim as she slowly emerged from the room.

“Mom, you’re back? Why didn’t you tell me ahead of time?” Wei Jie asked, a little unnerved.

Wei Jie’s mother was a high-level executive, often away from home for long periods. Wei Jie had grown used to her absences.

His mom’s voice was cold, “Did you make sure to send him home?”

Wei Jie’s heart skipped a beat. How much had she seen? How long had she been home?

Trying to gauge her, he answered cautiously, “You mean Xiao Cheng? He was just here to hang out…”

She raised an eyebrow. “Close the door.”

Hearing this, Wei Jie immediately knew she had seen everything.

Reluctantly, he shut the door and braced himself for a scolding. He watched helplessly as his mother pulled out the rolling pin she used to discipline him as a child.

“Come here and kneel,” she said, sitting down on the sofa.

Wei Jie’s jaw clenched as he walked over and knelt before her with a loud thud.

He had already made up his mind—no matter how much she scolded or punished him, he wasn’t going to break up with Fang Shucheng.

His mom, staring him down, asked, “How long has this been going on?”

Wei Jie hesitated, “Are you asking about us starting to date or about what happened today…?”

“Do you call that dating?” she scoffed, incredulous. “Where did you get the nerve to talk about ‘love’? Do you even know what love is? How dare you claim you’re in love with him?”

Wei Jie clenched his fists, looking her straight in the eye. “Then why don’t you explain it to me?”

“Don’t get smart with me!” she snapped. “I caught you two this afternoon, but I waited until he left to deal with you. Do you know why? Because I felt ashamed for my old friend!” She shook her head in frustration, “How did I end up raising such a shameless kid? All the lessons I’ve taught you, and this is what you do? Just because you’re bigger and stronger, you think it’s okay to bully others? If it weren’t for the fact that you and Xiao Cheng grew up together, I could’ve charged you with harassment!”

Wei Jie protested, “We’re in love. It’s mutual.”

His mother shot back, “I don’t see it.”

Wei Jie replied coldly, “Believe what you want.”

“Are you seriously arguing with me?” she demanded.

Wei Jie stopped responding. He couldn’t be bothered to keep arguing.

His mother raised the rolling pin, her patience wearing thin. But before she could strike, Wei Jie’s phone buzzed. He checked it and saw a message from Fang Shucheng reminding him about their homework, with a stern warning that he had to finish it.

Wei Jie tossed the phone to his mom. “See for yourself. If I’d really done something terrible, would he still treat me this well?”

His mom whacked him lightly with the rolling pin, “Watch your tone with me! Stay kneeling!” She took the phone and scrolled through their conversation, reading through the homework tips and gentle reminders Fang Shucheng had sent. The messages showed that he frequently helped Wei Jie with his studies and occasionally invited him out for food.

After reading, his mom threw the phone back at him. “Fine, I’ll admit you two seem to be mutual. But let me ask you this—do you understand that this is a gay relationship?”

Wei Jie wasn’t fazed. “And?”

His mom pressed on, “Have you thought about what’ll happen if your school finds out about your relationship? What consequences will you both face?”

Wei Jie’s face darkened, “I’ll take the blame. I’ll say I led him astray.”

His mom laughed, “How noble. But do you really think that’ll help? You think the school will just let him off the hook if you take the fall? With your grades, it’s hard enough to get into college, but what about Xiao Cheng? He’s always been the top student. Do you think he’ll be able to pursue his dreams if he’s penalized for being gay in high school? His mom told me that several prestigious schools wanted to recruit him, but he turned them all down to stay with you. Now I understand why.”

Wei Jie’s face fell. Fang Shucheng had never told him any of this.

His mother continued, “Xiao Cheng is cut out for academics. He’s always wanted to go into scientific research. But if he gets expelled or punished for this relationship, do you think any research institute will want him?”

Wei Jie’s whole body tensed up.

His mom gave him a hard look. “Got nothing to say?”

Wei Jie muttered, “I won’t let the school find out.”

His mom scoffed, “Fine, let’s assume you manage that. What’s your plan after high school? Xiao Cheng has no trouble getting into a top university. Can you even make it to Beijing?”

Wei Jie met her gaze and said firmly, “I promised Xiao Cheng I’d work hard so we could go to the same university.”

His mom raised an eyebrow. “Good.”

She tapped his shoulder lightly with the rolling pin. “You just made three promises: one, this is mutual; two, the school won’t find out; and three, you’ll start improving yourself. Tomorrow, I want a 3,000-word guarantee with your signature. If you fail at any of these, don’t blame me for breaking you two apart. Understood?”

Wei Jie: “…”

He stood there, speechless for a moment.

His mom didn’t push him further. She dropped the rolling pin and headed to the kitchen to make dinner.

Wei Jie knelt there, dazed, for a while before finally getting up. Just then, the doorbell rang, and he walked over to answer it.

Panting at the door, Fang Shucheng asked, “Wei Jie, are you okay?”

Seeing him standing there, Wei Jie’s heart ached as he remembered everything his mother had said. “Why are you here again?”

Fang Shucheng, relieved, replied, “You weren’t responding to my messages, so I came to check on you.” Then he added, “You used to reply instantly. What were you doing?”

“I was… doing homework,” Wei Jie lied.

“Really?” Fang Shucheng’s eyes lit up with excitement.

Seeing his reaction, Wei Jie couldn’t help but smile. “There’s a question I don’t understand. Want to help me?”

“Of course!” Fang Shucheng nodded enthusiastically and stepped inside. As he entered, he caught a whiff of food cooking and froze. “Wait… what’s that smell?”

Wei Jie answered nonchalantly, “My mom’s back.”

Fang Shucheng stopped in his tracks, momentarily stunned, before awkwardly saying, “I’ll go greet her.”

But Wei Jie quickly pulled him toward the study. “No need. Let’s go do our homework.”

After talking with Fang Shucheng for a while, Wei Jie finally realized the truth—his mom was far better at playing the long game than he was.
