When the dessert arrived, Wei Jie scooped a spoonful of double-skin milk and offered it to Fang Shucheng. “First bite for you.”
Fang Shucheng opened his mouth, ate it, then licked the spoon and asked, “Why?”
Wei Jie grinned. “If it doesn’t taste good, I won’t have to eat it.”
Fang Shucheng raised an eyebrow. “So, you’re using me as a taste tester, huh?”
Wei Jie smirked. “So, is it good?”
Fang Shucheng smiled. “Why don’t you try it yourself?”
Wei Jie took a bite and immediately frowned—it was way too sweet for his liking.
Fang Shucheng chuckled, “See? This is why you don’t like sweets. So why’d you come to a dessert shop in the first place?”
Wei Jie muttered, “I didn’t have anything better to do.”
Fang Shucheng scooped some mango sago and held it up to Wei Jie’s mouth. “You have to taste this one too. Fair’s fair.”
Wei Jie quickly leaned back, trying to avoid it.
Fang Shucheng leaned forward slightly, holding the spoon up to Wei Jie’s lips. “Just one bite! You owe me!”
Wei Jie reluctantly agreed, “Just one bite, okay?”
Fang Shucheng nodded, and Wei Jie hesitantly opened his mouth, taking the spoonful of mango sago.
At that moment, Wei Jie felt a few pairs of eyes on him. He turned his head and saw several girls quickly looking away, one of them discreetly tucking her phone away.
His brows furrowed as he walked over and knocked on their table. “You just took a picture of us, didn’t you?”
The girl holding the phone blushed deeply and stammered, “No, no I didn’t.”
Standing tall at 1.9 meters with sharp features, Wei Jie cut an imposing figure. His presence cast a large shadow over the group of girls, and they were visibly intimidated.
Fang Shucheng put down his spoon and walked over. “What’s going on?” he asked.
With a scowl, Wei Jie replied, “I saw them taking pictures of us.”
Fang Shucheng was momentarily surprised but, seeing Wei Jie’s striking face, he could understand why. He politely told the girls, “Sorry, he doesn’t like being photographed. If you did take any, could you delete them?”
The girl who had taken the picture nervously showed her phone to Fang Shucheng. “I only took one, and it’s just a side profile. Can’t I keep it? I promise I won’t post it online.”
Fang Shucheng glanced at Wei Jie, whose expression remained dark. “Delete it. Now.”
The girl’s face flushed with embarrassment, and without saying another word, she deleted the photo.
The group of girls hurriedly left, without ordering anything.
Back at their table, Fang Shucheng nudged Wei Jie. “Why are you so mad? It was just a photo.”
Wei Jie fumed. “If I hadn’t noticed, your picture would’ve stayed in that girl’s phone.”
Fang Shucheng chuckled, “Seriously? That’s what you’re worried about? She was clearly taking a picture of you. I was just in the background. Besides, you can’t control everything. I’ll still have to take graduation photos, and everyone will have one.”
Wei Jie, still irritated, muttered, “That’s different.”
Fang Shucheng, half-heartedly agreeing, replied, “Alright, alright, if you say it’s different, it’s different.”
Wei Jie wasn’t satisfied. “It’ll be like this from now on—no photos without my permission.”
Fang Shucheng was speechless.
Wei Jie pinched his cheek, “Did you hear me? Stop just eating.”
“Mmph!” Fang Shucheng’s muffled reply came out as his face was squished.
Wei Jie finally let go.
Rubbing his now-red cheek, Fang Shucheng grumbled, “Got it.”
Wei Jie, noticing the redness on Fang Shucheng’s face, realized he had pinched too hard and muttered in regret, “Why’s your skin so delicate?”
Without missing a beat, Fang Shucheng retorted, “Guess my face just can’t handle you.”
Wei Jie was momentarily lost for words.
Then, in a flash of mischief, Wei Jie’s eyes brightened. In one swift motion, he leaned in and planted a quick kiss on Fang Shucheng’s cheek.
Fang Shucheng didn’t react at first. He instinctively touched the spot that had just been kissed. A few seconds later, his face turned crimson.
Wei Jie, grinning, said, “Doesn’t hurt anymore, does it?”
Fang Shucheng glared at him. “How old are you?! You’re so immature!”
The next day.
As soon as Fang Shucheng entered the classroom, Wei Jie approached him.
Fang Shucheng immediately covered his backpack, eyeing him suspiciously. “What do you want?”
Wei Jie slung an arm around his neck. “Let me see your homework.”
Fang Shucheng sneered. “Weren’t you the one who swore yesterday that you’d do it yourself?”
Wei Jie, with an innocent expression, replied, “I just want to take a quick look.”
Fang Shucheng shook his head. “No way.”
Wei Jie narrowed his eyes. “Are you giving it to me or not?”
“No,” Fang Shucheng said firmly.
Wei Jie leaned in close, whispering with a wicked grin, “If you don’t, I’ll do what I did in the dessert shop yesterday…”
A chill ran down Fang Shucheng’s spine. “You wouldn’t dare!”
Wei Jie chuckled, “Oh? You think I won’t?”
Fang Shucheng, face turning red, hissed, “There are people watching.”
Wei Jie shrugged nonchalantly. “I’m not afraid of being seen. Are you?”
Frustrated, Fang Shucheng finally relented and handed over his homework. “Just a quick look. No copying.”
Wei Jie snatched it up and immediately pulled out his own homework, furiously scribbling down the answers.
Realizing what was happening, Fang Shucheng tried to take back his homework, but Wei Jie, writing with one hand, used the other to pull Fang Shucheng into a loose headlock, trapping him.
As Zhuang Yi passed by, he whistled and nudged the person next to him, grinning while making exaggerated “oooo” sounds with his mouth.
Just then, Mr. Qin, their homeroom teacher, entered the classroom, face stern as he knocked on the door. “You guys are the noisiest in the whole building! Just listen to yourselves! Everyone else is doing morning reading!”
Zhuang Yi quickly slunk back to his seat, trying to become as invisible as possible.
Mr. Qin’s sharp eyes scanned the room. “Zhuang Yi! Wei Jie! Fang Shucheng! All three of you, out!”
Someone snickered.
“Damn,” Zhuang Yi muttered, glaring at the offender. Wei Jie, annoyed, snapped, “Blame yourself for dragging Xiao Cheng into this. I haven’t even called you out yet. Who the hell are you swearing at?”
Zhuang Yi turned back, “You’d better think about how to deal with this. I finished my homework. Did you?”
Mr. Qin frowned, “What are you whispering about now? Get over here!”
The three of them sheepishly followed Mr. Qin to his office.
Mr. Qin, assuming Fang Shucheng was just caught in the middle, didn’t scold him but directed his attention to Wei Jie. “What were you doing last night that you didn’t finish your homework?”
Wei Jie replied bluntly, “Playing basketball with Zhuang Yi.”
Zhuang Yi groaned internally. Damn it, how’s this my fault?
Mr. Qin glared at them. “So, how come Zhuang Yi finished his homework? I’m not saying you can’t play basketball, but if you can manage your time like Zhuang Yi and still finish your work, I won’t say a word. And Zhuang Yi, wipe that grin off your face. I’m not praising you! Look at your scores from the last exam—how much did you drop?”
Both Wei Jie and Zhuang Yi craned their necks to see Mr. Qin’s Excel sheet on his computer. Zhuang Yi found his name and laughed. “Hey, that’s higher than I expected!”
Mr. Qin gave him a light thump on the head. “Look at the others’ scores. The test was easy, not that you did well.”
Wei Jie turned to Fang Shucheng, “Xiao Cheng, look at you—you’re number one again.”
Mr. Qin glared at Wei Jie. “Stop clinging to Fang Shucheng! He’s too polite to tell you off. You like hanging around him so much, why can’t you learn from him? Fang Shucheng, I’m giving you a task. Since you’re close to Wei Jie, help him not just in life but in studies too. Help each other improve.”
Wei Jie grinned. “Sir, I’m happy to help Fang Shucheng with life stuff. He can handle the academics.”
Mr. Qin chuckled, “You, help someone else? You can’t even help yourself!”
Wei Jie, still grinning, said seriously, “Of course I can. I can even help Fang Shucheng with laundry…”
Before he could finish, Fang Shucheng kicked him.
Mr. Qin shook his head with a laugh. “You’ve got too much drama in you.”
