As soon as the weekend ended, the basketball tournament began. With Wei Jie leading the charge, Class 3 dominated every match, effortlessly cutting through the competition like a knife through butter. Before most teams had even realized what was happening, they had already made it to the semifinals.
But in the semifinals, they finally encountered a formidable opponent.
They were up against Class 6, the reigning champions. And not just anyone—Xie Jun, the captain of the school basketball team, was in their class!
←_← Yes, the same Xie Jun…
Trusting his instincts, Wei Jie assigned Zhuang Yi to guard Xie Jun.
Zhuang Yi: “…”
Wei Jie made one last check, “Everyone clear on their positions?”
Zhuang Yi raised his hand, “Uh… I have an objection.”
Wei Jie: “Speak.”
Zhuang Yi: “Why am I the one guarding Xie Jun? Shouldn’t it be you?”
Wei Jie: “What? No confidence?”
Zhuang Yi wasn’t about to fall for the taunt. “Of course not. Xie Jun’s a beast. You’re the best choice.”
Wei Jie waved him over, “I’ll teach you a trick to stop him.”
Zhuang Yi leaned in, and the two whispered back and forth for a while. Zhuang Yi’s expression shifted from confusion to disbelief.
“Is that really going to work? Don’t mess with me.”
Wei Jie smirked, “You won’t know until you try.”
Zhuang Yi hesitated, “Well… ugh… this is so shameless! But I’ll give it a shot!”
Fang Shucheng looked on suspiciously. He asked Wei Jie, “What did you say to Zhuang Yi? Don’t do anything stupid. This reflects on our class’s reputation. Look, there are so many people watching.”
Wei Jie glanced around and noticed a girl quickly looking away, blushing. An idea struck him, and he responded coolly, “Yeah, there are a lot of girls watching. I’ll have to give a good performance.”
Fang Shucheng: “…”
The referee blew the whistle, signaling the start of the first half.
Both teams lined up, exchanging glances. Xie Jun, eyeing Zhuang Yi who stood opposite him, asked Wei Jie quietly, “Did you really put him on me?”
Zhuang Yi’s loud protest earlier had been heard by Class 6’s players.
Wei Jie gave a cryptic smile, “You guys are going to lose.”
Xie Jun narrowed his eyes, “I’m not planning on going easy.”
Wei Jie grinned, “I taught him how to ‘deal’ with you. Scared?”
Xie Jun considered this, “Is it what I think it is?”
Wei Jie shrugged, “Who knows? Guess we’ll find out.”
The referee signaled for the tip-off. Wei Jie won the toss, and the ball was thrown into play. As the ball descended, players from both sides leapt into action, and Xie Jun quickly secured possession.
Zhuang Yi panicked. He was supposed to guard Xie Jun, but the game had barely started and Xie Jun was already poised to make a three-pointer.
Where was Wei Jie?
Looking back, Zhuang Yi saw that Wei Jie—normally one of the fastest players—was lagging far behind, casually jogging without a care in the world!
Left with no choice, Zhuang Yi took a deep breath and rushed forward. Just as Xie Jun was about to shoot, Zhuang Yi arrived in front of him.
He’s too fast!
Zhuang Yi felt helpless, knowing he couldn’t block Xie Jun. In desperation, he followed Wei Jie’s advice, pursing his lips and whispering, “Mwah mwah!”
Xie Jun: “…”
Zhuang Yi: “(>_<)”
Somehow, Zhuang Yi managed to steal the ball from Xie Jun, bursting with glee.
Haha, it worked!
Just like Wei Jie said, someone as serious as Xie Jun couldn’t handle such shameless tactics.
Zhuang Yi marveled at his own cleverness, thinking he was quite the strategic genius.
What he didn’t notice was Xie Jun subtly signaling his thanks to Wei Jie from across the court.
For the rest of the game, both teams found themselves playing what felt more like a friendly match. With the captains of both sides seemingly slacking off, the game ended in a surprising tie.
“We’ll settle this in the finals,” Wei Jie said. “Let’s knock out the other two teams first.”
Xie Jun nodded, “Thanks. If we win, dinner’s on me.”
Wei Jie tilted his head toward Fang Shucheng, “Both of us.”
Xie Jun agreed, “Sure.”
Wei Jie then went to find Fang Shucheng, while Xie Jun pulled Zhuang Yi aside, saying something that left Zhuang Yi looking terrified as he was dragged away.
Fang Shucheng, worried, asked, “What’s going on with Zhuang Yi and Xie Jun now?”
“They’re fine,” Wei Jie replied with a smile. He pulled off his jersey, revealing a black tank top underneath. The shirt, soaked with sweat, clung tightly to his body, outlining his muscular frame and drawing the attention of many onlookers.
Fang Shucheng: “…”
Ignoring Fang Shucheng’s eye roll, Wei Jie took the bottle of water Fang Shucheng handed him. Instead of drinking it, he poured it over his head, causing several girls to shriek in excitement.
Under the sunlight, the droplets of water glistened as they trickled down his fit, tanned body, highlighting the toned muscles beneath, giving him a mature and strikingly masculine look far beyond his years.
Fang Shucheng: “…”
Meanwhile, in the restroom, Zhuang Yi found himself pinned against the wall by the school’s basketball captain.
“You were the one who said ‘mwah mwah,’” Xie Jun said calmly. “I’ll give you a chance—why are you backing away now?”
Zhuang Yi: “…”
Xie Jun continued, “What’s wrong? You trying to mess with me?”
Zhuang Yi: “…”
Trapped by Xie Jun’s muscular arm next to his face, Zhuang Yi felt like crying.
The sacrifices I make for my class are way too much!
