ELEY Chapter 6.1

Wang Zheng remembered the first time they met; it seemed like he was drunk, and Ye Xiyan helped him back to the rented apartment. Two lonely souls, finding warmth in each other in this cold city. It wasn’t exactly love; it was more like they were both afraid of being alone and needed someone to share their lives with.

As Wang Zheng thought about Ye Xiyan, he felt a wave of anxiety. How long had they been together? Four years, right? Neither of them had ever mentioned going home. They spent every holiday together, and Ye Xiyan never talked about her family or called them.

Could it be that Ye Xiyan had anticipated from the start that one day Wang Zheng would leave?

Noticing his nephew lost in thought, Wang Chengfu sighed, slowly brewed a pot of tea, and sipped it leisurely while reading a book.

In Wang Zheng’s mind, scenes from the past replayed. Ye Xiyan was strong and optimistic, like a wildflower blooming in the spring fields. No matter what troubles Wang Zheng faced, Ye Xiyan stayed calmly by his side.

Would they break up?

Wang Zheng couldn’t find an answer to that question.

“What did you say?” Jiang Nan’s surprised exclamation echoed through the office.

When Jiang Nan returned to the company, Zeng Yu had already gone out. With a business deal that practically fell from the sky, Zeng Yu didn’t want to risk anything going wrong and had to handle it personally.

Yuan Lei placed the contract in front of Jiang Nan, who carefully examined it. Once she was sure it was genuine, she hugged Yuan Lei and jumped up excitedly, “I told you he could do it! He’s really something! He must have worked on this deal in his spare time. Five hundred bottles, and this is just the first batch!”

Seeing Jiang Nan grinning foolishly, Yuan Lei flicked her forehead, “Don’t get too happy just yet. The contract clearly states that if there are quality issues and they can’t be resolved, they have the right to terminate the contract.”

“I trust Zeng Yu’s work. No, I have to find him—I can’t let him fight this battle alone.” Jiang Nan grabbed her bag and rushed out the door before Yuan Lei could stop her.

“It’s almost time to get off work; can’t you just wait until tomorrow to ask him?”

Jiang Nan waved her hand without looking back as she left.

Yuan Lei sighed and picked up her phone to report the situation to Han Jiayi.

Even Han Jiayi was surprised by Zeng Yu’s ability. The company hadn’t even officially launched yet, and he had already secured a major deal. A Michelin three-star restaurant opened a branch in China, and Zeng Yu managed to convince the owner to use Sofi wine.

Yuan Lei mentioned that Zeng Yu might be Jiang Nan’s lucky star, and Han Jiayi agreed it was possible.
Why did she think that? Who would know their daughter better than Han Jiayi? She figured Jiang Nan probably hadn’t even sorted out all the company’s affairs yet.

Jiang Nan called Zeng Yu and headed to the warehouse, humming a tune the whole way, her mood as bright as ever.
Perhaps she was too excited, because when she arrived at the warehouse and parked, she suddenly felt dizzy. Jiang Nan leaned against the seat, waiting for the feeling to pass.

Storing wine requires specific conditions, such as a stable temperature and humidity. Hongda Company did an excellent job in this area.
This warehouse was originally used by Hongda to store wine, and after signing the agency agreement, Zeng Yu gained access to it for inventory management.

When Jiang Nan found Zeng Yu, he was in the middle of processing paperwork with the warehouse manager.
“I’ve already taken care of everything here. I thought it would be a hassle, but Hongda really is a professional company. They ensure the wine is stored under optimal conditions, maintaining its quality.”

Jiang Nan smiled and said, “I heard this warehouse was specially designed, and the wooden racks for the wine are all made from oak imported from France.”

Zeng Yu gave her a thumbs-up, “Impressive, they really pay attention to detail. In this area, you’re definitely better than me.”

Jiang Nan thought to herself: How could I not know about this? It’s my family’s business, after all.

“Thanks for the compliment. By the way, how about we go out for a nice dinner tonight to celebrate?” Jiang Nan suggested enthusiastically.
Zeng Yu shook his head, “Nah, let’s go to the supermarket and buy some ingredients. I’ll cook for you.”

Zeng Yu’s lack of romantic flair actually delighted Jiang Nan. The man she liked was going to cook for her! But at the same time, Jiang Nan felt a pang of concern—Zeng Yu had been working all day, and now he was going to cook?

“It’s getting late. If we go grocery shopping now, by the time we cook and eat, it’ll be almost nine. How about this—you treat me to a nice meal of Dapanji.”

“Sure, that works. How did you know I like Dapanji?” Zeng Yu keenly noticed something.

Jiang Nan smiled warmly at him, “I just knew.”

“Let’s have some spicy fish or grilled fish too. I remember you like fish.”

Jiang Nan’s smile grew even brighter, and she nodded lightly, “Alright! And we’ll still get the Dapanji too.”

Their voices carried off into the night breeze.

While some were in high spirits, others were feeling down. Yuan Lei, thinking about a heartless jerk from her past, couldn’t help but feel a wave of sadness. She had endured so much pressure to be with him, wholeheartedly throwing herself into the relationship, only for him to later break up with her. If that jerk were standing in front of her now, she’d bite him to death.

In reality, many men pursued Yuan Lei. As the owner of a bar, she was often seen as an easy target by many. But any man with such intentions ended up running into a wall with her, and the unluckiest one got a face full of pepper spray.

Yuan Lei, drinking alone, stood out among the many couples in the bar.

Someone noticed her and sat down across from her, “Why are you drinking alone?”

The voice was gentle, full of concern, and Yuan Lei thought she must be hearing things. But when she looked up and saw the person in front of her, it was as if fire shot from her eyes.

“You bastard!” Yuan Lei’s anger was condensed into those two words.

The man opposite her remained calm, smiling slightly, “How have you been?”

Blinded by fury, Yuan Lei suddenly stood up, grabbed his hand, and brought it to her mouth, “I’m going to bite you to death!”

Yuan Lei really bit down, using all her strength, but the man remained expressionless, not even flinching, just letting her bite him.
It wasn’t until she tasted blood that Yuan Lei calmed down a bit, releasing his hand and glancing at the wound.

The bite was deep, with blood oozing out. Yuan Lei grabbed a napkin, pressed it to the wound, and complained angrily, “Are you stupid? You should’ve dodged! Look, you’re bleeding.”

“It’s nothing serious.” The man smiled, with a hint of satisfaction in his expression.

Locking eyes with him, Yuan Lei found she couldn’t look away.

Yuan Lei knew very well that the reason she had fallen for him in the first place was the deep affection and tolerance in his eyes.
Their commotion had drawn the attention of the restaurant staff, and the manager came over. Wang Chengfu nodded and smiled at the manager, “Sorry, my girlfriend drank too much and got a bit emotional.”

The manager looked at him in confusion, “But you two weren’t sitting together…”

Just then, Wang Zheng walked over. He saw a woman holding onto Wang Chengfu’s hand, with a napkin stained with blood, and was startled.

Wait a minute… Isn’t this the same woman I saw with Zeng Yu’s friend at the nightclub on Ye Xiyan’s birthday?

“You guys finish your meal and head back on your own.” Wang Chengfu waved to Wang Zheng.

Yuan Lei clung to Wang Chengfu’s wrist like a drowning person grabbing a lifeline, refusing to let go, just staring at him silently.

“Have you had enough? If you’re done, I’ll take you home. Drinking alone is one thing, but why’d you have to drink so much?” There was an empty wine bottle on the table; Yuan Lei had finished it all by herself.

“Don’t lie to me. If you lie to me again, I’ll die.” Yuan Lei seemed to sober up a bit, staring blankly at Wang Chengfu, pleading softly, tears streaming down her face.

Wang Chengfu smiled gently, “I’m not lying. I came here specifically to find you. I went to your house, but it had been demolished. I never expected to run into you here.”

Wang Zheng watched in a daze, witnessing this soap opera unfold. He couldn’t believe his second uncle had such a story, and the female lead in this story was Zeng Yu’s friend.

Wang Chengfu was only thirty-three years old, and thinking back on his past, he recalled that he had studied for three years as a graduate student in this city. Could it be that this melodramatic story stemmed from that period?

Yuan Lei clung to Wang Chengfu as they walked out of the restaurant together. The security guard at the entrance, seeing this scene, immediately walked over.

“To the garage! Have Lao San bring some food. As long as it’s got meat, anything will do.”

“Why must there be meat?” Yuan Lei asked dumbly. When Wang Chengfu spoke to the guard, his eyes were devoid of any emotion, but when he turned to her, that familiar look of affection and tolerance returned.

“If you don’t eat meat, how will you have the strength to wrestle with a vixen like you?” Wang Chengfu laughed heartily.

Just moments ago, Yuan Lei was ready to bite Wang Chengfu to death. Now she was giggling like a lovesick fool.

Wang Zheng received a text message: “Come over tomorrow and pay your respects to your future aunt.”

Wang Zheng had always thought his uncle, who was only his half-brother, was pretty cool. Now he knew for sure. His second uncle was the real deal. His uncle’s Ukrainian assistant, Agata, was a stunning beauty, and Yuan Lei was equally flawless.

He never expected her to be his future aunt.
