ELEY Chapter 9.2

He tried to stand, but his legs had gone numb from kneeling, and the wound on his leg made it impossible. He struggled a few times but couldn’t get up. The pain from his injury made him cry out, but he gripped Ye Xi Yan’s hand tightly and pulled her into a hug.

Wang Zheng pressed his face against Ye Xi Yan’s stomach, closed his eyes, and whispered, “Yezi, don’t move. Let me hold you properly.”

At his words, Ye Xi Yan burst into tears.

A Hong returned with the nurse, who was furious. “You’ve bled all over the place! Don’t you want to live? Get this wound bandaged right now! You need stitches. Come with me.”

The nurse led Wang Zheng to the emergency room. As the doctor guided him to a bed, he refused to let go of Ye Xi Yan’s hand.

The doctor sighed. “To stitch the wound, we need to administer anesthesia, and that requires payment. But if you keep holding her hand, who’s going to pay?”

A Hong quickly said, “I’ll go. Give me the bill.”

Wang Zheng said, “Doctor, I don’t need anesthesia. I’ve done wrong, and I need to face the consequences. Otherwise, I can’t face the woman I love.”

Fourteen stitches, and Wang Zheng didn’t make a sound.

“Doesn’t it hurt? You’re sweating all over.” Ye Xi Yan said, concerned.

“I was afraid you’d run away again, so I didn’t notice the pain.”

“I already said I wouldn’t leave this time. I’m not lying.”

“Really? Oh god… it hurts like hell.”

When A Hong returned, she saw the two holding hands tightly, eyes locked on each other, and couldn’t help but tease, “You two are something else. Anyway, I’ve paid the bill. Both of you are hurt, so go home and rest. I’ll take care of everything else.”

Wang Zheng looked at A Hong. “Yezi is lucky to have a friend like you.”

Ye Xi Yan smiled quietly beside him.

Wang Zheng continued, “You were there for Yezi when she was at her lowest, while I kept hurting her. Compared to you, I’m not even close.”

A Hong was stunned and then glared at Wang Zheng. “Sweet words are just empty. Make sure you treat Yezi better from now on.”

“It’s a pity. If Xiaoqing hadn’t had an accident, today would have been a good day.” Ah Hong sighed and turned to leave, her eyes already red, though no one noticed.

Wang Zheng tightened his grip on Ye Xiyan’s hand. “When her family arrives, we’ll help them together.”

Ye Xiyan nodded.

Wang Zheng then picked up his phone and dialed Zeng Yu’s number. Zeng Yu quickly answered, sounding impatient. “Today is your second uncle’s wedding, and I haven’t seen you. How could you miss such an important event?”

Wang Zheng, who had put the call on speaker, couldn’t help but chuckle. “I’m calling to tell you two things. One good, one bad. Which do you want to hear first?”

Zeng Yu, driving home, glanced at the GPS and said, “When it comes to a troublemaker like you, good news can only mean two things: either you’re dead, or you found Yezi and are on your knees begging for forgiveness. Honestly, I hope Yezi doesn’t forgive you right away because you’re such a jerk. You deserve to suffer a bit.”

Ye Xiyan couldn’t help but smile at this. Despite Zeng Yu’s harsh words, his concern was clear.

Wang Zheng proudly said, “Well, I’m not dead, so sorry to disappoint you. But I do have good news: I found Yezi.”

Zeng Yu was momentarily stunned before quickly responding, “Then what’s the bad news?”

“The bad news is, I got into a car accident and I’m in the hospital.” Wang Zheng said while playfully winking at Ye Xiyan.

“Which hospital? I’ll be right there.” Zeng Yu asked urgently.

Wang Zheng hung up the call and sent a text with the hospital’s name to Zeng Yu.

After that, Wang Zheng smiled at Yezi. “With a wonderful woman like you and a brother like Zeng Yu, what more could I ask for?”

Ye Xiyan, moved and worried, said, “It was your second uncle’s wedding, and you left to find me? How will I ever face him now?”

“It’s fine, we just won’t tell him. Let’s find a place to lay low, recover, and then reappear.”

“That sounds good.” Ye Xiyan nodded in agreement.

Meanwhile, Zeng Yu was sending a message to Wang Chengfu: “Wang Zheng was in a car accident. He’s at the county hospital.”

Groom Wang Chengfu, exhausted and lying on the couch, heard the text notification. His wife Yuan Lei, who saw the message first, quickly got up and kicked him. “Get up! Wang Zheng was in a car accident.”

Wang Chengfu jolted awake, grabbed his car keys, and dashed out the door.

When Zeng Yu arrived at the hospital, he saw Ye Xiyan sitting with Wang Zheng on a bench in the hallway. He let out a sigh of relief before walking over with a stern expression. “You’re not dead, right? Not crippled either?” He then smiled at Ye Xiyan.

Wang Zheng, grimacing from the pain, stood up with Ye Xiyan’s help.

Zeng Yu, feeling emotional, stepped forward and gave Wang Zheng a tight hug, pounding his back. “Not dead, not crippled—you’re definitely a troublemaker.”

Wang Zheng yelped in pain as his injury was aggravated. “Hey, if you don’t let go, I might actually end up crippled.”

“If you do, serves you right. I won’t feel sorry for you.” Zeng Yu said, pushing him away. He then smiled at Ye Xiyan. “Yezi, are you okay?”

Ye Xiyan shook her head. “Just some scratches. He’s hurt worse, with a gash this big on his leg.”

As they spoke, two traffic cops appeared, accompanied by the mother whom Wang Zheng had saved.

“It’s him! Oh, I’ve been looking everywhere for you.” the mother exclaimed.

It turned out that after the traffic accident was resolved, the mother returned home and couldn’t stop talking about Wang Zheng’s heroic act. Her family insisted on finding Wang Zheng to thank him properly, so she went back to the traffic department for help. The police reviewed the surveillance footage, and the problem was quickly solved.

“Sir, we’re so grateful to you! Our whole family is!” The family surrounded Wang Zheng, expressing their gratitude while Zeng Yu and Ye Xiyan watched with smiles.

“There’s nothing to thank me for. I just did what anyone would do.”

After the family thanked Wang Zheng and left, he still had to give a statement to the police.

Shortly after, Wang Chenghan, Wang Chengfu, and Yuan Lei arrived. Seeing Wang Zheng injured, Wang Chenghan’s face turned pale. He knelt down to examine Wang Zheng’s wound closely. “Are you okay? You won’t be crippled, right?”

Wang Zheng, feeling guilty at seeing his father’s worried expression, quickly smiled. “I’m fine. Just a minor injury.”

Ye Xiyan, however, exposed his lie. “Minor? He needed fourteen stitches, and he bled everywhere. Just look at him, his face is white as a sheet. He needs to rest and recover.”

Hearing this, Wang Chenghan relaxed a bit and stood up, looking at Ye Xiyan. “So you’re the Yezi that Wang Zheng keeps talking about in his sleep? I’m Wang Zheng’s father.”

Although she had anticipated this, facing Wang Zheng’s father made Ye Xiyan nervous.

She nodded. “Uncle, I’m Ye Xiyan. Please don’t blame Wang Zheng for his injuries… It’s all my fault.”

Worried that Wang Chenghan might blame Wang Zheng, Ye Xiyan quickly tried to take the blame.

But to her surprise, Wang Chenghan bowed deeply to Ye Xiyan, shocking her so much that she quickly stepped aside. “Uncle, what are you doing?”

Wang Chenghan stood up, glanced at the stunned Wang Zheng, and then smiled. “This kid has been unreliable since he was a child. These years, it’s been thanks to you taking care of him so well. Just for that, I have to thank you.”

“Uncle, no, it’s not like that…” Ye Xiyan waved her hands in embarrassment.

Wang Chenghan smiled and said, “Let me finish. I know what you’re getting at. My son was spoiled from a young age. When things went wrong for our family, I was really worried he wouldn’t be able to handle it. Thankfully, he has a relatively cheerful personality, a good brother, and he had you by his side when he was down. I really don’t know what kind of luck he had to meet such a good girl like you. Don’t worry, once he’s recovered, I’ll make sure you two go get your marriage certificate.”

This put Ye Xiyan at ease, erasing the last bit of worry in her heart. She lowered her head and said, “Uncle, I’m not worthy of such praise. If I hadn’t been so stubborn, Wang Zheng wouldn’t have gotten hurt.”

Wang Chengfu joined in, pointing at Wang Zheng’s nose. “You little brat! You made such a good girl like Xiyan angry.”

Yuan Lei walked over and glared at Wang Chengfu. “Why are you butting in?”

Wang Chengfu immediately smiled at her reprimand. “You’re right, boss.”

Wang Chenghan shook his head. “Sister-in-law, Wang Zheng is indeed a scoundrel! He deserves a beating! In the house his mother left him, there’s a villa in Tomson Riviera. I’ve decided to transfer it to Ye Xiyan tomorrow as part of the bride price. She’s a wonderful girl, perfect as a daughter-in-law.”

They joked around for a while, and the mood lightened significantly.

Wang Chenghan looked around. “Where’s Zeng Yu? I saw him just a moment ago.”

Yuan Lei chuckled. “He slipped out quietly. That guy sure knows how to be considerate.”

The next day, Wang Zheng was transferred to the affiliated hospital of the medical university for a more thorough examination.

On the same day that Wang Zheng was admitted, Zeng Zhanhao was discharged from the hospital.

Zeng Zhanhao had been restless, unable to stand the hospital environment. Despite Fu Yu being in charge at home, when Zeng Zhanhao got stubborn, even she had to give in a little.

After his stitches were removed, Zeng Zhanhao kept insisting on being discharged. Fu Yu eventually relented and secretly completed the discharge procedures, and they left early in the morning.

Before leaving, she sent a text to Jiang Nan, just as a heads-up.
