Finishing Embracing Lies, Embracing You, I find myself feeling a bit lost.
I don’t often write tragedies because, honestly, I don’t enjoy them. I’ve always been an optimistic person, full of positive energy. However, a writer’s growth is often intertwined with their life experiences. As you go through more, the things you write start to carry more of the marks of time.
For me, these past two years have been the most challenging of my life, especially with my wife’s serious illness. It has impacted me deeply.
She’s been with me since she was sixteen. Now, it’s been eighteen and a half years. Aside from my mother, she’s the woman who has stood by my side the longest. We rarely argue and have always been very harmonious. Her illness is like a gray cloud over my sky, especially now as her condition worsens, making me feel the weight of life’s difficulties.
So, in this work, I wanted to write about some of the hardships I’ve been reflecting on. Many times, things aren’t resolved just by praying for divine intervention.
I really like something a friend once said to me: “Brother, when things happen, don’t fear them.”
I love that phrase, so I face everything head-on. Even though many things don’t go as I wish, I keep trying, keep persisting. I’m making myself stronger, so that when I look back on this time in the future, I can at least say to myself, “No regrets.”
Many of the stories in this novel are inspired by friends around me, like the character Wang Zheng. He’s a race car driver who grew up wealthy, but when he was ten, his family suddenly went bankrupt. I’ll never forget the look in his eyes, slightly red as he said to me, “Just when I started to understand the value of money, our family lost it all.”
That sentence struck me deeply. I’ve also been through tough times, which I wrote about in For You, I’m Willing to Love the Whole World.
Challenges aren’t always bad. Life is full of ups and downs; the key is how you face them. It’s in these moments that courage and strength are often revealed.
Zeng Yu will be strong, and so will Jiang Nan.
Wang Zheng will be strong, and so will Ye Xiyan!
And so will you.
I hope that everyone who reads this book, and reaches this final afterword, will find the strength within themselves.
The fact that we, as humans, can live with intelligence and have our own thoughts—isn’t that a form of luck?
Someone once said, “Live every day as if it’s your last, and make it as exciting and fulfilling as possible.” I didn’t understand it then, but recently, I’ve started to get it.
You can live your days aimlessly, or you can fill them with happiness.
Happiness can be as simple as a freshly grilled skewer of lamb, or finding free toilet paper in a public restroom when you really need it.
Embrace the world with happiness, and you will find more happiness in return. The little things around you will bring joy.
I hate tragedies, I really do—hate them with a passion.
So, Jiang Nan will come back, I promise you that.
I rarely write sequels, but for this book, I will. To give you hope, and to give myself hope. Just like how I’ve been striving with everything I have to help my wife get better.

Like many of you, I became invested in Jiang Nan and Zeng Yu’s journey—rooting for them through their highs and lows.
For those wondering, there is indeed a sequel to this series, and I’m seriously considering continuing with the translation. Our beloved Jiang Nan and Zeng Yu will return, bringing with them all sorts of misunderstandings, forgiveness, and the possibility of a brighter future.
