It's Just Like in the Story

Chapter 1 – It’s Just Like in the Story

The bell signaling the end of school rang a long time ago, the time has passed the crimson twilight hours, and the area becomes dim.

The nobles who have their own townhouses may have returned to their respective residences, and for those students who have come to study from abroad, They may have returned to the boarding house in a separate building and are either waiting for their dinner or are waiting for their baths to be prepared. The unpopular staircase classroom remains silent and is engulfed in darkness.

In that dark staircase classroom, a lone girl with long black hair that seemed to blend into the surrounding darkness and mysteriously pale, faintly glowing skin in the darkness, clad in this academy’s uniform, was ascending the center of the staircase classroom, heading towards the rear of the room.

“Rachel… Is she really coming?”

From the long hair of the black-haired girl, a green-haired humanoid dressed with leaves suddenly sticks out its face and asks the girl on her ear with furrowed brows.

“Isn’t that what we came here to confirm, Leaf?”

The girl continues to climb the staircase without shifting her face nor eyes to the humanoid that came out of her hair.

“If you only want to confirm, can’t you just check tomorrow morning whether the textbook has really been torn or not?”

The humanoid not only pulled out its upper body but also its thin wings from the girl’s hair, and while clingily pushing its body on the girl’s face, it asked again.

“Leaf, if I follow that method, won’t my textbook be damaged? Textbooks aren’t free, you know.”

The girl reaches the back of the classroom and shifts her gaze to the window curtain. Then, she walks briskly towards the curtains.

“Even so, it’s dangerous to catch her in the act, Rachel. After all, she must have a blade to cut up textbooks, right?”

The small humanoid with thin wings on its back silently speaks as if begging the girl who is preparing for her goal without heeding its own words.

“I don’t think she’ll bring a sword to cut up a textbook so it will probably be a hidden small knife, and the other party is also a girl so I don’t think it will turn into a bloodshed… besides…”

The girl grabs the curtain and opens her arms to cover her own body.

“You’re not sure if the story I told is true or not, right? If it isn’t true then nothing will happen…”

And then, the girl gave a small laugh.

“At that time, what will remain is an embarrassing memory of me concealing myself with the curtain inside an empty classroom alone…”

The girl laughs like she’s mocking herself.

“That would be better… I will not laugh at you…”

The small figure snuggles up to the girl’s cheek while saying so.

At that moment, from the hallway outside the classroom, they can hear the faint sound of human footsteps.

The sound made the small humanoid gulp and the girl narrowed her eyes suddenly, she closed her mouth with its corners slightly raised.

The two held their breath and sharpened their nerves to the sound of footsteps coming from outside the classroom.

The classroom falls silent. Amidst that, only the sound of the footsteps outside the classroom is getting closer. And then, those footsteps will likely stop in front of this classroom. In that situation, the sound of the small humanoid snuggling up to the girl’s face reached the girl’s ears.

The two stare at the two entrances that sandwich the podium in front of the classroom. The small humanoid is praying that nothing will happen, and clenches its fist, but a small squeaking sound resounds, and the door on the left moves. The small humanoid clung to the girl’s face in time with the sound.

A young lady peeks through the slightly open door, looks around for a while, and after confirming that there’s no one, she wedges herself through the small gap of the door to enter the empty classroom and quietly closes the door behind her.

Bright orange-tinged outward-facing medium-length hair, olive-colored eyes and a soft face that seems to be spoiled.

‘You came just like the story said…Martina Mir Juneau…one of the villainesses in the story…’

If that young lady really came here according to the story, then her next actions were completely clear.

Despite checking that the classroom is empty before entering, she heads towards the front row seats in front of the podium while looking around restlessly. There is the girl’s reserved seat.

‘You really came to rip my textbooks according to the story… I left the textbooks on the seats to check if the story was true this time, but… I wonder if it’s normal for the students here to leave their textbooks in the classroom…’

While thinking about such things, the girl stealthily peeks at the young lady who is heading to her seat.

As the girl quietly peeks at the young lady’s actions, the young lady arrives at the girl’s seat and picks out a textbook from the seat. As she gulps while staring at the cover, she takes out a knife from her pocket with the textbook on her other hand.

The girl ignores the small humanoid on her shoulder, Leaf, who keeps looking at her as if to say “Your book’s gonna get cut.” and simply  watches the young lady quietly.

*gaa*

The young lady thrusts the knife into the cover of the textbook. Perhaps because the cover is made of cardboard, or because the young lady’s slender arms don’t have the strength, only the edge of a knife can pierce the cover. The young lady must have been irritated by the fact that only the edge of her knife was stuck, so she put all her strength into the hand holding the knife and cut through the cover.

It was at that moment that it was confirmed that young lady Martina had harassed the girl Rachel by cutting the cover of her textbook.

‘This confirms it…’

When the girl confirmed that the bullying had been established due to the occurrence of harm, she took a deep breath.

“Martina Mir Juneau-sama.”

The young lady Martina, who was swinging her knife around to make a second blow, was suddenly called by her name, causing her body to shake violently, dropping the knife and the textbook with the beat, and the sound of the knife that fell with a clank echoes in the quiet room.

Young Lady Martina, like a kitten on the street, turned her body in the direction of the voice, trembling and confused. Then, in the back of the already darkened classroom, the curtains by the window gently move, revealing a pale-skinned figure from within.

In the rear of the classroom, far away from others, and within the darkness of the room, a pale, ghostly figure suddenly appeared, resembling a specter or vengeful spirit. Young lady Martina let out a small gasp of terror and seemed as if she might lose her balance.

“What could the daughter of a Marquis possibly be doing in such a remote classroom at dusk…”

From Martina’s point of view, the ghost-like appearance with hair that seems to blend into the darkness and pale skin slowly and quietly walks from the window to the center while talking.

“If you tore any more than that, I will not be able to take classes……”

Martina shivered and felt cold sweat running down her back as she kept her eyes on the ghost. Her ghostly figure advances to the center of the back of the classroom, where she turns to Martina, her long dark hair fluttering.

Then, the two eyelids on her beautifully well-featured, pale face  slowly open, and in the darkness, ruby-like pupils that indistinctly shine appear.

“Ra, Rachel Rall Stave…”

Martina, who understood the ghost’s identity through those crimson eyes, called out the ghost’s name in a voice that sounded squeezed out.
