Evil Spirit Lady 4

Evil Spirit Lady

Chapter 4: Why is it here?

After the echoing scream of the white apparition faded and dissipated into silence, the classroom returned to its original state of tranquility and quietness. Leaf stared in bewilderment at the spot where the white apparition had vanished, but the silence was shattered by a thud as something collapsed.

Turning its gaze toward the source of the noise, Leaf saw Martina lying on the floor before the humanoid figure.

The humanoid creature peered down at Martina, who had collapsed on the floor, and in Leaf’s eyes, it seemed to wear a slightly disappointed expression, despite lacking any features besides its mouth. Slowly, as if rewinding time, it retreated back to the spot where it had initially emerged, dragging Martina along. When the last of its head disappeared, Leaf felt as though it glanced briefly in its direction.

Then, as if nothing had happened, the staircase classroom, now shrouded in darkness as night fell, once again fell into silence and tranquility. The only abnormality was the presence of the two young ladies, Rachel and Martina, lying collapsed on the floor.

“Rachel!”

With the disappearance of the ‘humanoid,’ the tension that had filled the classroom dissipated instantly, and Leaf, relieved of the stiffness and paralysis that had gripped its body, called out. However, it couldn’t rush over to Rachel immediately. The source of the humanoid that had dominated the situation in the classroom until just now was Rachel herself.

Leaf called out to Rachel, but for a while, all it could do was watch over her from the shadows. It feared that the humanoid might reappear or that Rachel herself might undergo a transformation into a humanoid.

“Ugh…”

At that moment, a groan escaped from Rachel’s lips in her own voice. Hearing her voice, Leaf’s fear dissipated, replaced by concern for Rachel’s well-being. Instinctively, Leaf’s body moved toward Rachel.

“Rachel! Hey, Rachel, are you okay?!”

Leaf approached Rachel’s face and called out desperately. In response to Leaf’s call, Rachel frowned slightly, as if disturbed from a peaceful sleep. It seemed she was gradually awakening from her unconscious state.

“Rachel!”

At Leaf’s cry, Rachel faintly opened her eyelids, revealing ruby-like crimson eyes.

“…Leaf?”

Leaf, overjoyed that Rachel had awakened and that her voice and gestures were those of her usual self, hugged Rachel’s face with its small body to express its joy.

Rachel, influenced by Leaf’s excitement, gradually emerged from her drowsy state, lifting her head and upper body slowly from the floor.

“Ugh… My head still feels a bit foggy… It might take some time for everything to clear up… But more importantly, it seems I’m safe. The fact that I’ve awakened means the enchantment was just to put me to sleep, and the young lady has fled…”

Rachel, still feeling the effects of the magic weighing down her mind, lifted the corners of her mouth slightly to reassure Leaf.

“Well, you see…”

Leaf, wearing a troubled expression, shifted its gaze away from Rachel. Following its line of sight, Rachel noticed Martina lying on the floor, just as Rachel had been moments ago.

“Um, is that… something you did for me, Leaf?”

Rachel, after watching Martina’s awkward collapse for a while, turned to Leaf and asked if it had gone too far. However, Leaf vigorously shook its head, seemingly denying Rachel’s words.

“N-No, that’s not it! It wasn’t me!”

“Then, did the magic backfire, causing her to fall asleep too?”

Rachel thought it might be something a bit silly that Martina might do. However, Leaf shook its head again, firmly denying Rachel’s assumptions.

“No! It wasn’t like that! It was… you, Rachel…”

“Huh?”

Rachel’s eyes widened involuntarily at the mention of her name.

“U-Um, well… More accurately… It was like… Darkness emerged from you, Rachel, and formed into a kind of… ‘humanoid’ entity…”

“W-What!? That’s impossible!”

Rachel’s eyes widened even further at Leaf’s words.

“I-It’s true! From the collapsed you, darkness gushed out, and from that, a terrifying ‘humanoid’ figure emerged!”

Rachel trembled, her lips and fingertips quivering at Leaf’s words.

‘No, no way… previously… I thought I’ve parted ways with “him” in my previous life…’

Rachel had a deep and strong awareness of the entity referred to as the “humanoid” figure by Leaf. This was because her relationship with that figure didn’t originate in “this world” but rather in her “previous world.”

At the thought of the days of fearing “Him” again, Rachel’s body began to tremble with a mixture of fear and regret.

“Ra, Rachel, what’s wrong?”

Leaf calls out to Rachel worriedly.

“… Cha, chains…”

“What?”

“How were the chains!? They’re not cut!? How many were there left!?”

Rachel approached Leaf urgently.

“I-I don’t know! I was scared of that ‘personification’ too, and that noblewoman…”

When Leaf made excuses up to that point, Rachel’s complexion changed.

“Did… Did ‘He’… Did ‘He’ devour her? Did that noblewoman, Martina, get eaten!?”

Rachel approached Leaf with an unprecedented expression.

“H, He didn’t eat her! When that “humanoid” got close to the noblewoman, a white shadow flew out from her, and before she could be devoured, it disappeared by itself!!”

Leaf desperately explained the situation.

“Not eaten? Disappeared on its own? Maybe… there’s still a chance…”

Rachel’s serious expression softened as she pondered. Then, not yet fully in control of her body, she stood up and approached Martina with unsteady steps.

“What are you going to do, Rachel? Wait, whoa…”

Leaf jumped onto Rachel’s shoulder as she approached Martina, but when Rachel looked down at Martina’s figure, she gasped.

Martina, lying at Rachel’s feet, had her eyes wide open, tears and drool streaming down her face, occasionally twitching involuntarily. It was clear that she was in no ordinary state.

Nevertheless, Rachel bent down in front of Martina to check on her condition.

“It seems… she’s still breathing… Maybe she’ll be okay…”

“Okay…? She doesn’t seem okay at all… Rachel, what are you going to do?”

Rachel checked Martina’s breathing and pulse, and Leaf spoke up.

“We can’t just leave her like this, can we? We have to help her.”

Rachel replied decisively.
