Although Jiang Wan passed out from the pain after asking Dou Ming to avenge him, Dou Ming still fulfilled his request.
With one swift kick, he sent the solid metal barrier flying, crashing down onto the ground with a deafening thud. The protruding edge bent under the force of the impact, leaving the crowd stunned.
Dou Ming’s raw Alpha strength and precision were on full display.
The innocent barrier was now completely wrecked. Dou Ming, still holding Jiang Wan, sprinted toward the infirmary. Betas along the way barely caught a glimpse of him as he sped by, while Alphas, sensing the overpowering cedar scent long before his arrival, wisely avoided his path. The few who dared to release their own pheromones in defiance were immediately overwhelmed by the biting cold of Dou Ming’s scent, their knees buckling as if struck by a severe chill. They could barely stand, let alone continue their challenge.
Dou Ming reached the infirmary in no time. With no free hand to open the door, he kicked it open. The school nurse, startled, quickly stuffed something into her desk drawer, about to ask what was going on when she was hit by Dou Ming’s formidable presence, as if a snowstorm had just swept into the room.
Glancing at the pale Omega in Dou Ming’s arms, the nurse wasted no time and led him to a bed. Dou Ming gently laid Jiang Wan down and explained the situation at lightning speed.
The nurse promptly removed Jiang Wan’s pants to examine the injury.
His little mushroom was swollen and red.
Dou Ming: “…” He quickly turned around, closed the door, and stood there stiffly, facing the wall like a statue.
The snowstorm of pheromones gradually subsided, and warmth slowly returned to the infirmary.
Jiang Wan’s pheromones, untethered while he was unconscious, drifted gently through the air like dandelion fluff. Dou Ming’s nostrils flared as he caught a faint whiff of plum blossoms, and for some reason, an image of a small, plump red mushroom flashed in his mind.
“Hey, kid.” the nurse patted Dou Ming’s shoulder. “The medicine’s been applied.”
Dou Ming turned around, glancing briefly at the unconscious Jiang Wan on the bed. The nurse had not only applied medicine but had also thoughtfully covered him with a blanket to prevent any embarrassing exposures. If Dou Ming ignored what was underneath the blanket, the Omega’s pale complexion gave him a delicate, almost fragile beauty.
Dou Ming lowered his gaze. “Thank you, teacher. I’ll head back to class now.”
The nurse raised an eyebrow. “You’re not going to stay and wait for him to wake up?”
Dou Ming replied coldly, “I have class.”
The nurse nodded. “Alright, go ahead. Don’t worry, he’ll be fine.”
Without sparing Jiang Wan another glance, Dou Ming left in silence.
The nurse, watching his unbothered retreat, rubbed her chin thoughtfully. “It seems the instinct for Alphas to protect Omegas is stronger than I thought. From the way he acted earlier, I almost thought they were a couple. But now it seems they’re just regular classmates.”
With that musing, she returned to her desk and, after confirming the room was empty except for the unconscious Omega, discreetly pulled out her tablet and resumed her digital drawing. Slacking off at work is the best!
Meanwhile, crouching beneath the infirmary window were two shady-looking men in black. One wore an eyepatch, the other had braces—none other than [One-Eyed Dragon] and [Steel Teeth].
The two squatted side by side like dogs, their expressions grim and full of fear.
Is this really Big Brother Jiang’s plan? To get injured to trigger an Alpha’s sympathy?
Isn’t that a bit too extreme? Couldn’t he have just caught a cold instead?
[One-Eyed Dragon] whispered, “Now do you believe me? Big Brother Jiang may be an Omega and look delicate, but he’s tougher than all of us. He can be brutal, even to himself! Watch out in the future, or you’ll end up feeding the fish in the river.”
[Steel Teeth], still shaken, nodded vigorously. “Our boss truly has unmatched resolve.”
Jiang Wan, unaware of the admiration he’d earned from his henchmen due to the accident, slowly woke up from his unconscious state. His little mushroom had been treated with medicine, and the pain had subsided, leaving behind a cool, soothing sensation.
Staring blankly at the ceiling, the smell of disinfectant in his nose, it took him a while to remember where he was and what had happened.
He glanced down at the slightly yellowed blanket covering him and immediately threw it off in disgust.
Who knows how many people have used this? Gross!
Hearing the commotion, the nurse approached, about to speak, but upon seeing Jiang Wan’s expression, decided to keep quiet.
Noticing the nurse’s odd look, Jiang Wan was confused, but then he felt the cool air on his legs. He looked down—Who undressed me?!
In a swift motion, Jiang Wan yanked the blanket back over himself, accidentally bumping his still-tender mushroom.
Jiang Wan: “…”
Nurse: “…”
Jiang Wan’s face turned dark.
The nurse tried to reassure him, “I’m a professional doctor. There’s no need to worry.”
Jiang Wan, forcing himself to stay calm, nodded. I’m a 25-year-old man. There’s nothing unusual about being seen by a doctor.
Completely normal, he repeated in his mind.
Seeing the dark look in the Omega’s eyes, the nurse quickly changed the topic. “How are you feeling now?”
Jiang Wan took a moment to assess his condition. “Much better.”
The nurse retrieved a tube of ointment and handed it to him. “Apply this three times a day. The swelling will go down soon.”
Jiang Wan took the medicine and fell into deep thought.
The nurse, noticing his hesitation, asked, “Does it still hurt?” He reached to lift the blanket again. “Let me take a look.”
Jiang Wan quickly pulled the blanket back down. “No, I was just thinking—it’s going to be hard for me to apply the ointment by myself. I might need someone to help.”
The nurse studied him for a moment, confirming that he was indeed a normal human being and not some strange species, then replied earnestly, “From a human anatomy perspective, it shouldn’t be difficult to apply the ointment by yourself.”
Jiang Wan: “…”
After a heated debate with the nurse, Jiang Wan reluctantly accepted the fact that, yes, regular people could apply their own ointment to their little mushroom without needing someone else’s help.
Feeling dejected, he got dressed, but since his swollen mushroom made it impossible to wear underwear, he simply tossed them in the trash.
The nurse stared in shock at the Omega’s nonchalant gesture. “Did you just throw something in my trash bin?”
Jiang Wan replied matter-of-factly, “I can’t exactly stuff my worn underwear into my pocket and carry it around like a handkerchief, can I?”
The nurse had no argument against that logic. “Alright.” He rubbed his temples, feeling like he was getting too old to keep up with the way kids behaved these days.
“Thanks.” Jiang Wan waved and slowly left, hands in his pockets, moving at a snail’s pace. He couldn’t walk fast—if his mushroom rubbed against his pants, it hurt, so he had to take his time.
The nurse silently watched him go, wondering why this Omega had asked such a strange question earlier. Surely everyone knew they could apply ointment to themselves, right? Then the nurse remembered the cold, aloof Alpha who had brought Jiang Wan to the infirmary. Suddenly, it clicked—Could it be that the Omega got hurt on purpose to attract the Alpha’s attention?
Given how bold the Omega seemed, it wasn’t out of the question.
The nurse felt a wave of admiration. With that kind of determination, there’s nothing this kid can’t achieve.
He bet fifty cents that the Alpha wouldn’t be able to hold out for much longer.
Jiang Wan hobbled along the path, moving so slowly that anyone watching would’ve thought he wasn’t moving at all. At least this way, he maintained a semblance of dignity. His slow, delicate pace even caught the attention of the security guard monitoring the surveillance cameras. The guard frowned, feeling the urge to rush out and help the poor Omega.
A few minutes later, Jiang Wan realized there was no one around anymore. Free from prying eyes, he abandoned all pretense, switching from snail mode to crab walk, his movements growing more exaggerated and carefree.
The security guard quietly turned away, pretending he hadn’t seen anything.
Jiang Wan planned to switch back to normal walking once he entered the teaching building. Figuring that class would end soon, he crab-walked faster, head down.
He wasn’t paying attention and ended up crashing into what felt like a brick wall.
Jiang Wan didn’t think much of it. As long as it wasn’t Dou Ming, he didn’t care who saw him.
But, just like how you always run into your crush when you haven’t washed your hair, walking in a weird way always ensures you’ll bump into your dream Alpha.
Jiang Wan looked up and locked eyes with Dou Ming’s amber gaze. His eyes were calm on the surface, but if you looked closely, you could see confusion and bewilderment.
Jiang Wan took a step back, quickly closing his legs, and after a brief internal struggle, decided to act as if nothing had happened. Flashing a bright, sunny smile, he greeted, “Hi Dou Ming! Did you come to pick me up? Thanks for taking me to the infirmary.”
Nice! Let’s smoothly change the topic and avoid awkwardness. Jiang Wan mentally patted himself on the back.
However, the Alpha in front of him didn’t cooperate.
After a moment of contemplation, Dou Ming asked, “Does the infirmary not have wheelchairs?”
Oh, right, Jiang Wan thought. If my mushroom hurts when walking, I could’ve just used a wheelchair.
Jiang Wan would never admit to being an idiot for not thinking of this earlier. He maintained his nonchalant demeanor and waved it off. “The nurse applied medicine, so I’m all good now.”
Dou Ming stepped aside, making way for him. “Then walk a few steps.”
Jiang Wan: “…”
Dou Ming continued seriously, “Why aren’t you moving? Hurry up and get back to class—you can still catch the last period.”
Jiang Wan: “…”
Seeing Jiang Wan remain still, Dou Ming added, “Weren’t you worried about falling behind in your studies? Don’t waste time.”
Jiang Wan: “…”
Dou Ming is so annoying. So, so annoying.
Fine, if you want me to walk, I’ll walk.
Jiang Wan took a step forward, but the rough motion caused his mushroom to brush painfully against his pants.
Ahhh!!!
Gritting his teeth to hold back tears, Jiang Wan steadied himself to take another step.
“Are you planning to walk all the way back like that?” Dou Ming asked, watching him.
Jiang Wan, now feeling a bit irritated, thought, Wasn’t it you who told me to walk in the first place?
He turned to glare at Dou Ming, but before he could react, he felt a sudden weightlessness as Dou Ming scooped him up in a bridal carry.
Startled, Jiang Wan instinctively wrapped his arms around the Alpha’s neck for balance.
The cool cedar scent enveloped him like a soft, intricate web, gently surrounding him.
“Don’t push yourself.” Dou Ming’s voice whispered in Jiang Wan’s ear.
“I’m not.” Jiang Wan mumbled in a small voice, his ears turning red as he realized how lucky he was. His mind buzzed with thoughts of blessings in disguise and heaven-sent opportunities.
The gland at the back of Jiang Wan’s neck began to heat up as he cautiously absorbed the Alpha’s pheromones. The once tart scent of his plum blossoms matured into a richer, sweeter fragrance, intertwining with the cedar scent.
Dou Ming frowned slightly, trying to suppress his own pheromones, avoiding the enticing pull of the plum scent, as if he wanted to distance himself from Jiang Wan.
But Jiang Wan wasn’t about to waste such a perfect moment. Wrapping his arms tighter around Dou Ming’s neck, he leaned closer and whispered teasingly in his ear, “Dou Ming, my butt feels pretty good, doesn’t it?”
Dou Ming: “…”
Seeing that Dou Ming didn’t respond, Jiang Wan mischievously nuzzled against him, like a cat seeking attention. “Didn’t you notice? It’s really firm and bouncy. Want to give it a squeeze and see for yourself?”
