Dou Ming was heading to Beijing for university, and Jiang Wan decided to buy an apartment nearby but insisted Dou Ming still stay in the dorms during the week, allowing him to come home only on weekends. He claimed it was to help Dou Ming improve his social skills.
The real reason was that Jiang Wan feared if they lived together every day, his back wouldn’t survive the constant “activities.”
Dou Ming saw right through this but said nothing, respectfully staying in the dorms.
Even Aunt Xue couldn’t help but comment, “Never seen a newlywed couple living apart right after marriage.”
That’s right, since Dou Ming was an Alpha, the legal marriage age for him was lower than for Betas. As soon as he turned legal, they went to the civil office during the summer break and registered their marriage. Now, they were legally living together.
Jiang Wan rubbed his sore back, glanced at the calendar, and thought, “It’s already Wednesday, and I still haven’t recovered from the weekend.” Luckily, he was smart enough to limit Dou Ming’s visits to the weekends, or else his back would’ve given out.
On the surface, he righteously declared, “If it weren’t for the sake of not disturbing his studies, who’d want to live apart? Do I enjoy this or what?”
He quietly opened Baidu and searched for ways to suppress an Alpha’s sex drive. The top response on Baidu Answers was: “Omega, you’re ruthless.”
Jiang Wan angrily downvoted it and replied: “It’s you Alphas who are beasts.”
As Aunt Xue continued knitting, she suddenly asked, “So, when are you two planning to have kids?”
Jiang Wan almost dropped his phone.
“Kids?!” he repeated three times. “Why? How? Who’s having kids?”
Aunt Xue looked surprised and glanced up, “Well, now that you’re married, isn’t having kids the natural next step?”
Jiang Wan shook his head furiously, clutching his phone. “I don’t want kids.”
Aunt Xue paused her knitting, thinking Jiang Wan was being too childish. She began to try and persuade him otherwise.
Jiang Wan interrupted, “Aunt Xue, do you know why Xiao Ming’s grandma lived to be 99?”
This joke was so old that Aunt Xue couldn’t help but laugh, shaking her head as she continued knitting, “Fine, fine, you youngsters do what you want. I wouldn’t dare interfere, nor could I.”
That night, Jiang Wan was venting during a voice call with Dou Ming, “Aunt Xue is already pushing for grandkids.”
Dou Ming chuckled, “Feeling the pressure?”
“As if,” Jiang Wan lazily sprawled on the couch, munching on sunflower seeds. “I’m the head of this household. I shut her down immediately.”
“Jiang Ge, so mighty.”
Jiang Wan raised an eyebrow, “Seriously though, do you even want kids?”
Before Dou Ming could answer, Jiang Wan furrowed his brow and muttered to himself, “It’s too early to ask you. You’re still young.”
Dou Ming replied, “By that logic, my answer will never matter. The future is always uncertain.”
“That’s true.”
“Then let time tell. Before we got married, I promised to always respect your decisions. If I ever change my mind, I’ll leave with nothing.”
Jiang Wan chuckled, “Relax, I was just bringing it up. Why so serious?”
But Dou Ming got even more serious, “We should sign a contract and put everything in writing.”
Jiang Wan, hating trouble, waved it off, saying there was no need.
But that very night, Dou Ming drafted and signed a contract and sent it to Jiang Wan. It detailed everything, including a clause that read: “If Party B violates the agreement by pressuring Party A to have children for selfish reasons, including but not limited to forcing pregnancy, adoption without Party A’s consent, or expressing regret in old age, Party B must leave and forfeit all joint property.”
Jiang Wan couldn’t help but feel sorry for Party B. “Wow, not even allowed to complain?”
Dou Ming firmly replied, “Exactly. Not allowed.”
“Okay, I’ll take it seriously then.” Jiang Wan signed the contract and saved a copy in his email.
Only then did Dou Ming finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Jiang Wan, puzzled, asked, “You’re really guarding against your future self?”
Dou Ming, ever the realist, said, “People change. Better safe than sorry.”
As Dou Ming’s university courses piled up, Jiang Wan wasn’t idle either. He went out looking for a job. Initially, he wanted to become a martial arts coach, thinking it’d be a great way to stay fit.
He even showed off his Qinglong certification, but the gym still turned him away, advising him to apply for a receptionist position at the office next door.
To prove his skills, Jiang Wan performed a perfect roundhouse kick, breaking a board in half, earning applause from the students.
But the manager still politely explained, “It’s not that I doubt your ability, but we’ve got a lot of Alphas here. The AO dynamic… it’s just not a good fit.”
The manager’s words were kind, but the message was clear: “This job isn’t suited for an Omega. Best give it up.”
Jiang Wan understood, nodded, and left. The manager breathed a sigh of relief, thinking to himself, “What kind of Omega studies martial arts instead of staying home?”
A few days later, the small restaurant across the street changed its sign to “Jiang’s Martial Arts Studio.”
On the day the new sign went up, the manager saw the new owner, the very same Omega who had applied earlier.
The manager was baffled.
Another two weeks passed, and “Jiang’s Martial Arts Studio” opened with much fanfare. The person greeting customers at the door was an Alpha with an impressive physique and striking looks. His pheromones were tightly controlled, making it clear he was a top-tier Alpha.
With someone like that standing outside, the customers practically flocked in.
The manager’s mood soured as he saw fewer and fewer people coming into his gym. He even sent someone to investigate.
After two days of “spying”, the employee quit and joined Jiang’s Martial Arts Studio, saying he had finally found the master he’d been searching for.
The manager was speechless.
Jiang Wan ran the studio for a couple of months, training a few talented students before stepping back and letting them take over.
Dou Ming asked, “Didn’t you say being a coach was a great way to stay fit?”
Jiang Wan sighed deeply, “Some things can’t be fixed with fitness.”
He massaged his lower back and continued, “But reducing the frequency might help.”
Dou Ming’s eyes widened in shock, his expression breaking for the first time, though he quickly regained composure. Still, his disappointment was obvious.
“But it’s already so infrequent”, he muttered, “only twice a week… just eight times a month…”
Jiang Wan flipped the table, “But each time lasts all night! Sometimes the whole day!”
“Do you not fear wearing me down to the bone?!”
Dou Ming pondered, “Maybe we could have more sessions, but each one shorter?”
Jiang Wan scoffed, “Yeah, like I’ll believe that.”
They’d tried that approach before, but once things got heated, there was no stopping. Sessions didn’t get shorter—only more frequent. His back definitely couldn’t take that.
Dou Ming sighed heavily, finally giving in. “If you dislike it so much, I won’t force you. From now on, once a week.”
Jiang Wan swung his legs and smiled, “You promise?”
Dou Ming nodded solemnly, swearing to uphold the promise.
But the very next week, it was Jiang Wan himself who broke the agreement.
After their usual Friday night session, Jiang Wan started pestering Dou Ming for more on Saturday night.
“You can’t do two nights in a row,” Dou Ming reminded him. “Your back will hurt again.”
Jiang Wan shot back, “You underestimate me, don’t you?” He felt like he’d made progress—after last night, he was already feeling great by morning. No back pain, no sore legs. He could climb ten flights of stairs without issue.
“I’ve improved! I bet I could do three nights in a row now.”
Dou Ming’s eyes gleamed slightly, but his expression remained calm. “Really?”
Jiang Wan didn’t catch the glint in Dou Ming’s eyes. “Let’s stick to twice a week for now,” he quickly added, playing it safe.
“Will that ever change?” Dou Ming asked innocently.
Jiang Wan puffed out his chest, showing off his abs, and shook his head. “I’m strong—no need for change.”
“Good to know.” Dou Ming nodded.
Jiang Wan hooked his arm around Dou Ming’s neck and teased, “Alright, let’s continue then.”
Dou Ming smiled and said, “Alright.”
But after that night…
Jiang Wan lay limp on the bed, eyes vacant, fingers weakly clutching Dou Ming’s muscular back, tears welling up as he accused, “You beast! You tricked me yesterday!”
Dou Ming kissed his sweaty nose, neither confirming nor denying, “We agreed—twice a week.”
Jiang Wan groaned inwardly. How could he—a grown man—get played like this by a university student?
Time flew by, and as the semester drew to a close, Dou Ming had several exams to prepare for. Jiang Wan set up a room at home as a study, allowing Dou Ming to return home every day instead of just on weekends.
In the dorms, his roommates teased him, asking if he’d found a significant other.
“I always had one,” Dou Ming replied flatly.
“Whoa, so it was a high school sweetheart?”
Dou Ming nodded modestly, slinging his backpack over his shoulder as he left the dorm.
He didn’t hear the chatter behind him.
Roommate A: “Told you! With looks and a body like his, he had to be taken. You guys thought he was gaming at the internet café? Should’ve known better. Now, pay up.”
Roommate B: “Damn, I owe so many Omegas milk tea now.”
Roommate C: “Why?”
Roommate B: “I promised them I’d get Dou Ming to hang out with us.”
Roommate C: “You sold out for a few cups of milk tea? Why don’t any Omegas ask me for favors?”
Roommate A: “Don’t be that guy! It’s bad karma to break up a couple.”
Roommate B: “I wonder what his partner looks like. Dou Ming’s keeping it pretty hush-hush.”
Roommate C: “No kidding.”
Meanwhile, at home, Jiang Wan sneezed as he was about to put some stir-fried bamboo shoots into Dou Ming’s bowl.
Dou Ming glanced at him, noticing the guilty look on his face. After thinking for a moment, he stared at the pile of bamboo shoots and said, “You know, eating bamboo shoots can reduce desire.”
Jiang Wan was shocked. “What? Really?”
“I thought you knew, considering how often you give them to me.”
Jiang Wan looked innocent, “You think I’ve been feeding you bamboo shoots to make you… less capable?”
Dou Ming smiled faintly, “Of course not. I trust you.”
Jiang Wan felt a chill at his smile, realizing something was up. And when he checked the calendar, it hit him—it was Friday.
He was sure Dou Ming had plans to make him admit something… in bed.
From past experience, Jiang Wan knew that denying things wouldn’t end well. At the very least, his back would be sore for a week.
Jiang Wan quickly gave in, nuzzling against Dou Ming like a kitten. “Come on, it’s not like I drugged you. If you didn’t last so long every time, I wouldn’t have to take such drastic measures.”
“You actually considered drugging me?”
Jiang Wan shook his head furiously. “What do you think I am, Pan Jinlian from Water Margin?”
Playing along, he grabbed a nearby porcelain bowl, fluttered his lashes, and purred, “Da Lang, it’s time for your medicine.”
The teasing tone was surprisingly flirtatious.
Dou Ming froze for a second, then calmly set down his chopsticks and wiped his mouth.
Jiang Wan panicked and backed away. “What are you doing?”
Dou Ming scooped Jiang Wan into his arms. “Finished eating?”
Jiang Wan struggled, “You haven’t even finished your bamboo shoots!”
“Smack!” Dou Ming playfully swatted his backside, carrying him straight to the bedroom.
Soon after, Jiang Wan’s voice could be heard from the bedroom, “Easy! Take it easy! You’re not supposed to exercise right after a meal!”
Before New Year’s, most of Dou Ming’s exams were done, except for Advanced Mathematics and a few major assignments. Though many freshmen dreaded math, rumors of a New Year’s Eve party had everyone’s minds elsewhere.
“Plenty of time to study after the break,” they thought, subscribing to the popular belief that “you can master any course in a week.”
During this time, Dou Ming’s class president held a meeting, announcing that each class had to submit a performance for the event. The plan was for the Omegas to perform a dance, but they still needed an accompanist.
The class president’s gaze fell squarely on Dou Ming. “If we could get an Alpha with top-tier piano skills, we’d crush the competition.”
Dou Ming sat there, expressionless, and said calmly, “I don’t know anyone like that.”
Everyone fell silent, and the Omegas in the front row slumped their shoulders.
The class president gave Dou Ming’s roommates a pleading look.
One of them whispered, “I think he means you.”
Dou Ming’s face remained calm as he shook his head. “I can’t play the piano.”
His roommate pushed a tablet in front of him, showing a news article from their high school graduation. The headline read:
“Top Science Student of Hai City Serenades His Alma Mater: A Glimpse Into the Emotional Side of the Scholar-Heartthrob.”
Dou Ming’s expression didn’t change as he said, “Fake news. Photoshopped.”
The roommate sighed and put the tablet away, signaling to the class president that it was hopeless.
The president gave a helpless smile and shrugged at the Omega in front.
One of the prettier Omegas bit his lip, then stood up, his eyes brimming with tears. “Dou Ming, we just want to make the performance the best it can be. It won’t take too much of your time.”
Dou Ming coldly replied, “I’m not interested.”
There was a brief silence, then someone chimed in, “But this is a chance to earn collective honor for the class. You’ve got the talent, why not show it?”
Still, Dou Ming shook his head. “If there’s nothing else, I’m heading back to study.” With that, he got up and left the room.
His classmates murmured to each other, wondering if an Omega had upset him, leading him to refuse such a small favor.
“Is it some kind of emotional drama?”
“They’re both from the same province, who knows?”
“Most Alphas are pretty protective of Omegas. It’s rare for one to refuse like this.”
“Maybe it’s because he’s already got an Omega?”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah, his roommates told me.”
“So he’s avoiding trouble, huh?”
“Could be.”
The standing Omega blushed in humiliation, then abruptly pushed his chair back and stormed out of the classroom.
The rest of the class burst into whispers.
When Dou Ming arrived home, Jiang Wan was busy making double-skin milk. Hearing the door open, Jiang Wan thought it was Aunt Xue returning from grocery shopping and shouted, “Come check this out! I think I burned the milk!”
Dou Ming changed into slippers and headed to the kitchen. He stood behind Jiang Wan, peering into the scorched pot, and immediately turned off the stove. “Any longer, and it’ll explode.”
“Huh?” Jiang Wan turned around, naturally wrapping his arms around Dou Ming’s neck and giving him a kiss before asking curiously, “Why are you back so early? Didn’t you have a class meeting?”
Dou Ming briefly explained the situation.
Jiang Wan laughed, poking Dou Ming’s chest. “You should’ve just played for them! Your classmates even said it’d be a great way to show off your talent.”
Dou Ming glanced down at his mischievous hands and replied expressionlessly, “Something’s off with those Omegas.”
“What’s off about them?” Jiang Wan tried to keep a straight face, his tone innocent.
Dou Ming glared at him, then turned and headed to the study.
Jiang Wan had no choice but to follow him, coaxing, “So what if someone likes you?” He placed his hands on his hips, pretending to be angry. “Tell me the name of that little brat, and I’ll tear them apart.”
Dou Ming responded, “That might actually end in a homicide.”
Jiang Wan froze, blinking as he swayed slightly. “Do you really think I’m that vicious?” He dramatically covered his face, “I’m an Omega unloved by my husband. I don’t want to live anymore.”
Dou Ming quietly opened his Advanced Math book and began working on formulas.
Jiang Wan sat on Dou Ming’s lap, pouting, “Fine, I’ll stop messing around.”
Dou Ming raised an eyebrow, gesturing towards the formulas, “I need to study.”
“Later,” Jiang Wan insisted, leaning against the desk, wrapping his legs around Dou Ming’s waist. “You think ignoring that Omega will make them go away? Trust me, they’ll just come back, saying something like, ‘You’re worried about your Omega misunderstanding, right? I can explain it to them. I really want our performance to be perfect—it’s our first time representing the class at a school event.’ If you keep ignoring them, everyone will say you’re being heartless.”
Dou Ming stayed silent for a moment, then calmly replied, “Don’t worry. I’ll handle it.”
Sure enough, a few days later, at another class meeting, the Omega once again approached Dou Ming, this time in front of everyone. With tears in his eyes and his hands clasped together, he bowed and pleaded, “Please, just this once, help us out.”
Dou Ming’s expression grew more complex, and he remained silent for a long time.
The Omega, thinking he had finally moved Dou Ming, allowed a smile to flash across his face.
Just then, a familiar figure appeared at the classroom door, peeking in like a little white rabbit looking for someone.
Dou Ming immediately looked up. “…”
The Omega turned around to see what had caught his attention and locked eyes with Jiang Wan.
With skin even fairer than his own, bright eyes, red lips, and a tall, lean figure, Jiang Wan seemed to outshine him in every way. His fists clenched involuntarily before he quickly released them, trying to remain composed. He instinctively moved closer to Dou Ming and asked, “Who’s that?”
But Jiang Wan didn’t even look at him. The moment he saw Dou Ming, his eyes lit up, and he waved, a shy smile spreading across his face. He quickly blushed and ducked behind the wall, as if too embarrassed to be seen.
The room erupted into “aww’s” and gasps of admiration. Even the Betas and Alphas couldn’t help but be charmed by Jiang Wan’s cuteness. Someone couldn’t help but ask Dou Ming, “Is that your Omega?”
Dou Ming nodded and told the class president, “I’ll ask him to wait in the next room.”
The class president was about to agree when someone chimed in, “Why? He’s family. Let him join us!”
Dou Ming responded, “He’s a bit shy.”
“Not with you by his side!”
Dou Ming turned to the class president. “I’ll go check with him.”
The president sighed and nodded, while the Omega stood frozen, watching as Dou Ming left the room to sweetly coax his shy Omega. Hand in hand, they returned to the classroom.
The Omega: “…”
What followed felt like a live talk show. The classmates bombarded Jiang Wan and Dou Ming with questions—when did they start dating, had they met each other’s parents, were they high school sweethearts, etc.
Jiang Wan answered each question, never letting go of Dou Ming’s hand.
Eventually, someone teased, “Aren’t you guys like an old married couple by now? Still so clingy?”
Jiang Wan glanced at Dou Ming, blushing, and nodded shyly. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he looked toward the Omega, his tone light, “Did I interrupt something before I got here?”
The Omega’s body stiffened. One of Dou Ming’s roommates blurted, “They were asking Dou Ming to play piano for the class performance.”
Another roommate nudged him, but it was too late.
Jiang Wan turned to Dou Ming, feigning surprise, “Really? That’s great! Did you agree?”
The roommate laughed, “Of course, he was just waiting for your approval.”
Jiang Wan smiled sweetly, “I fully support it.”
Everyone looked at Dou Ming, who glanced at Jiang Wan before nodding. “Since you said so, I’ll play.”
The roommate quipped, “See? Even a simple task like this needs his Omega’s approval.”
The class laughed, but the Omega clenched his fists tightly under the table. Another Omega sitting nearby quietly whispered words of comfort to him.
Jiang Wan raised an eyebrow, thinking, “Already can’t handle it?”
During the following rehearsals, though Jiang Wan never showed up, his presence was felt. Dou Ming would often record piano practice to play back for Jiang Wan or stare out at the unopened plum blossoms, lost in thought.
The Omega, familiar with Jiang Wan’s scent, now recognized the subtle sweetness of plums in the air—an ordinary fragrance that, due to love, now seemed extraordinary.
For the rest of their university days, the Omega never tried to speak to Dou Ming alone again.
Four years later, Jiang Wan’s martial arts studio had gained a solid reputation in the university town. Some old clients, aware that Dou Ming was about to graduate, anxiously asked if the studio would be relocating.
“Relocating?” Jiang Wan was puzzled. “Why?”
One client beamed, “So, he’s staying for grad school?”
Jiang Wan replied, “No, he’s going to the U.S. for his Ph.D.”
The client’s face dropped. “So… are you going with him?”
Jiang Wan nodded. “Of course. I’ll open a branch over there.”
The client’s face fell.
“What’s a Jiang’s Martial Arts Studio without Coach Jiang?”
Jiang Wan reassured them, “Don’t worry, I’ve got an even stronger coach lined up.”
He called in Gang Ya.
At first, Gang Ya didn’t want to come, claiming he was busy looking for a partner.
“I’ll find you a good one in Beijing,” Jiang Wan replied.
Gang Ya quickly came over, only to find Jiang Wan preparing his passport, which made him panic—thinking Jiang Wan was about to leave him high and dry.
To calm him down, Jiang Wan set him up on ten matchmaking dates, one each day.
Running a business for so many years, Jiang Wan had plenty of clients. Finding a few eligible Omegas for matchmaking was easy.
Gang Ya went on so many dates that he could barely walk afterward, but none of the Omegas caught his eye.
Jiang Wan, puzzled, quietly asked, “Don’t tell me…”
Gang Ya blinked. “Tell you what?”
Jiang Wan stroked his chin thoughtfully, “You’ve fallen for someone… over time?”
Gang Ya, confused, innocently replied, “I’m still a virgin. I haven’t fallen for anyone.”
Jiang Wan smacked him on the head. “I meant with Du Yanjing—Over Time!”
Gang Ya’s eyes widened. “Du Yanjing? But I’ve always dreamed of marrying a soft, sweet Omega. Du Yanjing is so tough, and he’s just a Beta!”
He firmly denied it but planted a flag all the same.
Before leaving for the U.S., Jiang Wan warned him, “Watch out for that ‘Over Time’ effect.”
Gang Ya, in a huff, dismissed it. “Impossible!”
Gang Ya wasn’t his real name. He’d been abandoned at the gates of an orphanage, where the headmistress, surnamed Yang, had found him at night and named him Yang Ye.
Du Yanjing also wasn’t his real name. He was originally called Ji Liuyun, a name that hinted at a once-doted childhood.
But his luck ran out at ten when his mother died in a car accident, and his father remarried, taking the insurance money to bring in a wicked stepmother who beat him often. One day, she accidentally whipped him so hard that one of his eyes started bleeding profusely.
If Jiang Wan hadn’t been in the area after taking down a small gang, Ji Liuyun might have lost his life.
Jiang Wan rushed him to the hospital and then beat up both the stepmother and the negligent father.
Ji Liuyun lost an eye and knew he could never go back to that home. So, he thickened his skin and clung to Jiang Wan, vowing to repay him.
Jiang Wan said he didn’t need more servants. “How about being my strategist instead?”
Ji Liuyun didn’t know if he had the brains for that but agreed instantly, even giving himself the nickname “Du Yanjing.”
Gang Ya had once teased him for the ridiculous name.
Du Yanjing had retorted that Gang Ya’s nickname wasn’t much better.
Their mutual disdain for each other’s naming skills kept them at odds for a long time.
But after many life-or-death battles, Gang Ya realized that although Du Yanjing wasn’t much of a fighter as a Beta, his quick thinking was invaluable. Meanwhile, Du Yanjing acknowledged Gang Ya as one of the most powerful Alphas he’d ever met, capable of standing at the top if not for his background.
They began to respect each other’s skills and, over time, became as close as brothers.
That was until one night, Gang Ya had a dream—one where he and Du Yanjing…
Gang Ya jolted awake, drenched in sweat, heart pounding. “No way, no way. My partner has to be a sweet Omega! Du Yanjing’s just my bro. He can’t be my wife.”
Terrified that his dream might become reality, Gang Ya threw himself into finding a partner. Du Yanjing, unaware of the real reason behind this sudden urgency, wondered aloud, “Didn’t you say you were waiting until you saved enough to buy a home?”
Straightening his spine, Gang Ya said, “I figured I’ve saved enough for a small place.”
Du Yanjing simply said, “Oh,” and went back to gaming.
Gang Ya tentatively asked, “What about you? You’re not getting any younger. Don’t you want to settle down?”
Du Yanjing absentmindedly touched his eye patch, smiling sadly, “What’s the point for someone like me?”
Gang Ya frowned. “What do you mean, ‘someone like you’? You’ve got a nose, eyes—what’s wrong with you? Why can’t you find someone?”
Du Yanjing gave him a look. “Was that supposed to be a compliment?”
Unable to stand it any longer, Gang Ya sat down next to him, insisting, “I may not be good with words, but I’ve got eyes. You look fine, you earn a good living—you’ll definitely find someone.”
He examined Du Yanjing closely, noting the smooth, wheat-colored skin and his bright, uninjured eye, along with his strong nose and well-shaped lips.
No wonder he’d… kissed him in the dream…
Gang Ya jumped up, feeling his scalp tingle. “I’ll, uh, go see what’s for dinner.”
“Mm.” Du Yanjing remained focused on his game, but inside, he felt a heavy weight.
No matter how many years they’d been comrades, in the end, even Gang Ya couldn’t fully accept his scarred appearance.
With a self-deprecating smile, Du Yanjing thought to himself, “Spending my life with video games wouldn’t be so bad.”
When Jiang Wan suggested sending Gang Ya to Beijing, Gang Ya’s first thought was, “Does this mean I’ll be separated from Du Yanjing?” They’d never spent time apart before… wait, what was he even thinking? Du Yanjing was just a colleague!
Afraid of spending more time with Du Yanjing, Gang Ya hastily packed his bags and left for Beijing, not even bothering to say goodbye.
Du Yanjing messaged him, “Bring back some pastries from Daoxiangcun.”
Gang Ya absentmindedly agreed, half-thinking about the Omegas in Beijing and half-wondering if Du Yanjing would be upset about not getting his favorite snacks.
Terrified by how much he thought about Du Yanjing, Gang Ya tried to distract himself by going on a flurry of dates in Beijing. Yet, none of the Omegas’ noses were as straight, nor their lips as soft as Du Yanjing’s. Even their delicate skin couldn’t compare to that warm wheat color…
It wasn’t until Gang Ya found himself on a train back to Haicheng, clutching a bag of Daoxiangcun pastries, that he realized he couldn’t go a moment without thinking about Du Yanjing.
After more than ten years of being inseparable, Du Yanjing had become an essential part of his life. Even after just a week apart, Gang Ya felt restless and miserable.
Was he really in love with the soft, sweet Omegas he had always dreamed of?
If that were the case, wouldn’t he have fallen for Jiang Wan by now?
But the truth was, he had never once felt that way.
Holding the pastries close, Gang Ya raced back to Jiang’s home in Haicheng. Standing by Du Yanjing’s bed, he nervously confessed everything and hesitantly asked, “Do you think it’s possible that we, um… developed feelings over time?”
Du Yanjing sat up slowly, hugging the blanket to his chest. He wasn’t wearing his eye patch, so his scarred eye was fully exposed, the moonlight barely masking the ferocity of the wound.
“Yang Ye,” Du Yanjing’s voice trembled slightly, “if you’re serious about this, I’ll take it to heart.”
Gang Ya’s pupils contracted. The pastries fell to the ground as he stepped closer, sitting at the edge of the bed and gently taking Du Yanjing’s hand.
“Ji Liuyun,” Gang Ya said cautiously, “I think… I’m in love with you.”
“Mm.” Du Yanjing glanced at the pastries now scattered on the floor and cursed lightly, “Idiot, you dropped the pastries.”
“I’ll go buy more,” Gang Ya replied, leaning in and gently kissing Du Yanjing’s scarred eyelid.
Jiang Wan was out scouting a location for a new martial arts studio when his phone buzzed with a WeChat notification from Gang Ya.
“Jiang Ge, Du Yanjing and I are together now.”
It took Jiang Wan a moment to process. Ji Liuyun… wait, Du Yanjing? The same Du Yanjing who’d been by Gang Ya’s side for years?
Wow, those two idiots.
Jiang Wan chuckled, shaking his head, and replied, “Congrats!”
Gang Ya sent back a grinning emoji followed by a sticker: “Hand over the red envelope. .jpg.”
Jiang Wan laughed, “I’ll wait for the wedding.”
Gang Ya responded with a photo of him at a wedding planning company.
Jiang Wan raised an eyebrow. “This isn’t just love over time—it’s a raging fire.”
Things were moving fast.
But true to his word, Jiang Wan sent a big red envelope, along with a warning, “Yang Ye, from now on, I’m Du Yanjing’s family. If you ever hurt him, don’t blame me for enforcing the family rules.”
Gang Ya—no, Yang Ye—confidently promised, “Don’t worry, Jiang Ge. I’ll treat him well.”
Jiang Wan smiled as he put away his phone. Glancing up at the bright, sunny sky, he thought, “Today’s a beautiful day.”
