FD Chapter 12

Still Nowhere to Be Found

Ming Shao insisted on going to the airport, and his assistant couldn’t stop him.

Even if he tried, seeing his boss in such a state, Ming Shao would probably crawl to the airport if he had to.

With no other choice, the assistant called for a driver. Ming Shao kept checking his phone every few seconds, as if each second was being painfully stretched out.

He just wanted to get there faster, as fast as possible.

To see Shen Luo as soon as possible.

“Uncle Chen, can you drive any faster?” Ming Shao urged, unable to hold back.

His eyelids felt heavy, and his body alternated between hot and cold, with a throbbing pain in his temples.

As they sped down the highway, the greenery on both sides blurred into streaks. Ming Shao closed his eyes, feeling a sudden, surreal sense of weightlessness.

It was as if he were standing on turbulent, roiling clouds, with no ground beneath him, his mind a mess. The air he needed to breathe was stripped away, and black-and-white spots formed chaotic, irregular patterns in his vision. In the next moment, he felt like he was plummeting from a great height.

Shen Luo, Shen Luo…

The black-and-white spots seemed to arrange themselves into those two characters, and Ming Shao mumbled them as he suddenly opened his eyes.

Those two characters acted like a symbol, an anchor, pulling Ming Shao back to reality.

The pain in his head intensified, but at least the car had arrived at the airport.

“Boss, we’re here. Which flight are you taking?” the assistant asked cautiously. He didn’t know his boss’s itinerary and, to be precise, he didn’t even know why his boss was doing all this today.

“Fl…flight?” Ming Shao struggled to open his eyes. “Yes, yes, I need to catch a flight…”

He fumbled around for a long time before finally managing to find his phone.

He unlocked it with practiced ease, but as he opened the app, he suddenly froze.

A flight?

But… Ming Shao realized, he didn’t even know which country Shen Luo had gone to.

Outside, people bustled about, hurried and busy, but Ming Shao felt like he was standing in a freezing void.

He abandoned all pretense of composure, clutching his head in his hands.

In a panic, he grabbed the bag his assistant was holding and began searching through it—phone, cold medicine, cigarette box… His hands started to tremble uncontrollably, his movements growing increasingly frantic. He resembled a trapped beast, eyes bloodshot with desperation.

Where is it? Where is it?

Ming Shao searched frantically, and in that moment, he realized that if Shen Luo truly wanted to leave, there was nothing he could do.

He couldn’t even find him.

Ming Shao had only discovered in the past few days that it wasn’t just that his assistant couldn’t find Shen Luo; someone had made it impossible for him to be found.

But then again, maybe he deserved it.

It’s too easy for someone to disappear if they want to, especially with help from others.

Shen Luo used to share things with him, but he had never listened. All those times he’d said he wasn’t interested, they’d added up to an arrow, fired from the bow of indifference, now piercing his chest.

Before, Shen Luo had shielded him from the pain, but now that Shen Luo was gone, Ming Shao was the one feeling it.

But what right did he have to say it hurt?

He was the one who started this.

The contents of the bag scattered all over the car, creating a mess. Ming Shao kept searching, his headache worsening, leaving him looking utterly defeated.

Where is it? He could have sworn he had kept it somewhere safe.

Suddenly, a crumpled document fell out, and Ming Shao clumsily reached for it, but it slipped between the seat cushions.

He banged the seat in frustration, his anger flaring, as he tried to force his hand into the narrow gap. The space was too tight, and his knuckles were soon scraped and bleeding from the plastic edges.

But Ming Shao didn’t stop, a guttural growl escaping his throat like that of a wounded animal.

“Boss, let me… let me help,” the assistant finally dared to speak, having been stunned by Ming Shao’s earlier reaction.

He was a Beta, with smaller hands, and he figured he could retrieve the document more easily.

Ming Shao didn’t respond.

“This might save time,” the assistant suggested cautiously.

“Save time…”

“I need to save time, get to Shen Luo faster.”

Ming Shao muttered to himself, stepping aside to let the assistant take over.

The assistant retrieved the document, and in a glance, noticed the words “Divorce Agreement.”

“Thank you,” Ming Shao said politely, though his hands were shaking as he hurriedly flipped through the pages, the sound of rustling paper filling the car. He quickly found the penultimate page.

There it was! The contact information for Shen Luo’s assistant, neatly typed at the bottom, the precise digits like a final lifeline.

“Hello? Mr. Ming?” The phone was answered quickly.

“…Where is Shen Luo?” Ming Shao’s voice was hoarse.
