Shen Luo is a Beta, and he has been harboring a secret for many years.
He’s had a crush on someone for a long time.
That person is his senior, Ming Shao, an exceptional Alpha.
Like the bright moon hanging in the sky, Shen Luo willingly plays the role of a cautious moon-gazer.
The marriage was arranged by their families. Even though the identities of an Alpha and a Beta usually put them worlds apart, the Ming family and the Shen family were considered well-matched.
Shen Luo still remembers the moment he heard the news; it was like a giant pie had fallen from the sky, leaving him dazed and confused by the sudden good fortune. He even confirmed it several times.
The answer was affirmative.
Because of this arranged marriage, Shen Luo finally had a reason to get closer to the Alpha.
Shen Luo was naturally happy about this and would seize any opportunity to find the Alpha.
They say, “The pavilion closest to the water enjoys the moonlight first.” With the water flowing right to his doorstep, how could he not scoop up the moon?
It was another afternoon.
It was already the end of the workday, and most of the employees had left. Ming Shao still had a bit of work to finish. As the Alpha was working, he noticed his phone vibrating with an incoming call.
It was from his nominal marriage partner, who had recently been calling him quite often.
The Alpha frowned, “Hello?”
“Are you off work? Am I bothering you?” Shen Luo spoke cautiously. He had checked the time carefully and only dared to call after the Alpha was likely done with work.
“What’s up?”
“Nothing, are you coming home tonight? I was waiting—”
“No need to wait for me.” Ming Shao pinched his brow. It was just an arranged marriage, nothing more than a necessary procedure. He didn’t understand why the Beta was calling: “Is there anything else?”
“…Ah.” The Beta’s tone instantly deflated.
Anyone could hear the hint of disappointment, but Ming Shao was indifferent to his marriage partner. He even glanced at the time again.
Ming Shao said, “This call has already delayed me by one minute and thirty-seven seconds.”
“Sorry.” Shen Luo’s voice grew even weaker.
“Forget it.” Ming Shao replied. “Just remember for next time, try not to call unless it’s necessary.”
The Alpha’s tone was harsh, as if he were reprimanding a subordinate, treating his marriage partner with the same indifference.
After hanging up, Ming Shao hadn’t planned to go home, but the Beta’s disappointed tone lingered in his mind.
If he didn’t go home, would Shen Luo keep waiting for him?
Leaving someone waiting for you is rather impolite.
He closed his computer, gathered his files, and ten minutes after hanging up the phone, the Alpha turned off the lights and grabbed his car keys.
When the Alpha arrived home, sure enough, Shen Luo was still sitting on the sofa, lost in thought. The moment he saw Ming Shao, a flash of surprise crossed his eyes, quickly replaced by joy. “You’re back?”
“Mm.” Ming Shao put down his things.
After dinner, the two of them headed upstairs, one after the other. They were walking separately when Shen Luo suddenly quickened his pace. Instinctively, the Alpha reached out, catching the person who almost slipped.
“Be careful.”
“Okay, okay.” Shen Luo snapped back to reality, his face feeling a bit warm. He quickly stood up from Ming Shao’s arms and hurried into the bedroom, flustered. “I’m going to shower first.”
The person ran off, and Ming Shao squeezed his fingers, feeling as though the warmth from catching his marriage partner had lingered through the fabric.
Half an hour later, Shen Luo finally finished washing up. Perhaps the water had been too hot because the Beta’s face seemed even redder, making it look quite pinchable.
Was it that hot?
Ming Shao changed his clothes and leaned closer to Shen Luo. Out of a sense of “husbandly” responsibility, the Alpha felt it necessary to check on his marriage partner’s health.
Of course, he was just checking the temperature.
As the distance between them shortened, Ming Shao placed his hand on Shen Luo’s forehead. After confirming that the Beta didn’t have a fever, he finally felt relieved.
While Ming Shao was checking the temperature, Shen Luo closed his eyes. His hair was still half-dry. On an impulse, Ming Shao reached out and touched his marriage partner’s cheek.
It really was quite pinchable.
But… what next? It was just a marriage of convenience, after all.
Ming Shao withdrew his hand and was about to leave when Shen Luo tugged at his sleeve.
“Are we going to…?” Shen Luo’s ears turned red, the words rolling around on his lips, but the Beta couldn’t bring himself to say them.
A Beta’s body isn’t naturally suited for an Alpha, especially not a high-ranking one. So, Shen Luo had made some preparations, whether it was from secretly studying guides or the items he had stored in his drawer.
“I made some preparations—” Shen Luo lowered his head, nervously fiddling with the edge of the blanket, finding it hard to speak.
“Hmm?” Ming Shao narrowed his eyes. Shen Luo’s meaning was clear; the Alpha understood. The gradually deepening blush on Shen Luo’s face also provided an obvious explanation, but there was a hint of mischief in Ming Shao’s tone. He asked in a low, raspy voice, “What kind of preparations?”
Shen Luo’s face turned completely red, and the place he had prepared was now filled with a noticeable foreign sensation.
He opened the drawer, his fingers trembling. His long index and middle fingers overlapped as he took out a small, square object…
Blushing all the way to the tips of his ears, Shen Luo seemed like a little bird pushed into a cage, cautiously yet boldly revealing his feelings.
The Alpha reached out, as if to touch him.
But in the next second, the Alpha’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen, his pupils suddenly contracting as if something had yanked him back to reality.
His fingertips paused mid-air.
“Forget it. I’m not interested in a Beta’s body.” Ming Shao’s voice returned to reason as he turned to leave the bedroom before answering the call.
