FD Chapter 24

Lemon Tree

Recently, Shen Luo had been seeing Ming Shao often.

Ming Shao frequently stood outside the company after work, sometimes taking Shen Luo back to their old home, other times just to pick him up from work.

On social media, Shen Luo also received frequent messages from Ming Shao.

The things Ming Shao shared were strange—clouds in the sky, trees by the road, or the legendary backflip performed by Dong Dong.

It was as if their roles had been reversed, and now it was Ming Shao who was constantly chattering away.

Occasionally, Shen Luo would reply with a simple “Mm.”

Whenever that happened, Ming Shao would send back several emojis, as if he was always holding his phone, ready to respond.

Two months passed like this, and they started chatting more frequently.

A few times, Shen Luo would even send Ming Shao a picture of the sunset, as if everything had returned to how it was before anything happened.

Some say that the desire to share is the most romantic thing in the world. In the past, Shen Luo would share with Ming Shao, whether it was about his work or his life; Shen Luo would always find something to talk about.

But finding topics to discuss was exhausting, and facing the cold responses of “not interested” was even more tiring.

Shen Luo had once become so tired that he lost all motivation, so exhausted that he had to break the bad habit of “sharing.”

However, Ming Shao’s persistence reignited this bad habit, and it showed signs of spreading like wildfire.

But in the past two weeks, Ming Shao had come to see Shen Luo less frequently. Shen Luo heard that Old Master Ming had been invited abroad by a few old friends, leaving the company matters to the younger generation. The younger generation, of course, referred to either Ming Shao’s father or Ming Shao himself.

Whether because of this or not, the last few times Shen Luo saw Ming Shao, the alpha looked worn out.

Coincidentally, Shen Luo’s projects also reached a critical point, leaving him busy for half a month. When he finally had some free time, he was hit with some big news.

Apparently, Ming Shao was soon to be engaged, and the match was an Omega.

At first, Shen Luo didn’t believe it, thinking it was just a rumor. After all, just a few messages up in their chat, he could still see Ming Shao sharing a photo of Dong Dong.

But then Ming Shao’s mother approached Shen Luo.

It was at the café downstairs from his office.

Ming Shao’s mother arrived with the divorce papers, full of vigour.

“Are you really going to keep holding him back? He’s a top-tier alpha,” Ming’s mother cried, her voice filled with accusations. “Do you know that Shao’er is destined for great things? Being entangled with a beta like you, how does that even look…”

“Shao’er is just trying not to embarrass you by not pushing for the divorce, but you keep clinging to my son?”

She continued as she slammed a photo in front of Shen Luo.

The photo was taken from a distance, so the subjects were a bit blurry, but Shen Luo immediately recognized that it was Ming Shao.

Standing next to him was a young man, who seemed to be the rumored Omega.

“Look at them, they’re such a perfect match. Unlike you—” Ming Shao’s mother kept going.

“Is this what Ming Shao wants?” Shen Luo suddenly interrupted her.

“Huh?” There was a fleeting moment of hesitation in Ming Shao’s mother’s eyes. “…What else would it be?”

“I don’t believe you,” Shen Luo replied with a smile, his gaze meeting Ming Shao’s mother with a clear sense of disbelief.

“I have work to do, so I’ll be going now.”

“Oh, and it’s not me clinging to Ming Shao. In fact, I was the one who first proposed the divorce.”

“Then why haven’t you gone through with it?” she demanded.

“Why?” Shen Luo repeated her question but didn’t give an answer. Instead, he walked away.

Why indeed?

Because Ming Shao had planted a new evergreen tree and stocked the fridge full of his favorite fruit drinks.

When Ming Shao arrived, the café was already empty.

The alpha looked a bit disheveled, not in his usual neat suit, but dressed in casual clothes with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

“Did you see…?” Ming Shao anxiously asked the server.

Upon learning that Shen Luo had already returned to the office, Ming Shao suddenly felt drained, leaning against the door of the café. Only then did he realize he had been sweating from running over so quickly.

He had been in the middle of moving, still packing things up, when he suddenly heard that his mother had gone to see Shen Luo.

He rushed over in a panic, but fortunately, Shen Luo hadn’t left.

He hadn’t left, hadn’t cut off contact.

Ming Shao could still find him.

Looking at his reflection in the glass, Ming Shao couldn’t help but smile.

He hadn’t left—that’s good.

Ming Shao walked into a nearby flower shop and emptied his pockets to buy a bouquet of roses.

He hadn’t brought his phone, so Ming Shao waited a long time outside Shen Luo’s company.

As people gradually left work, Ming Shao finally headed upstairs.

Shen Luo was busy with paperwork when he noticed the alpha’s somewhat unusual appearance, frowning slightly.

Why does he look so…unconventional?

Ming Shao placed the flowers on the desk and asked Shen Luo for a cup.

He was really thirsty, having spent all his money on the flowers.

Shen Luo didn’t say anything, placing the flowers next to the sofa and returning to his work.

He knew Ming Shao had something to say and was waiting for the alpha’s explanation.

“I’ve left the Ming Corporation,” Ming Zhao said lightly.

The Ming Corporation, which belonged to the Ming family.

Shen Luo had been prepared to hear some sort of explanation, but what Ming Shao said still managed to shock him.

His hand paused for a moment before he resumed flipping through the unfinished documents, pretending to be unaffected as he asked casually, “Why?”

“My parents,” Ming Zhao said, plucking a petal from one of the roses, “they wanted me to sign the divorce papers and then enter into a new marriage.”

“With the Omega in the photo?”

“Mm,” Ming Zhao nodded, then quickly emphasized, “But I’ve already rejected him. I told them I have someone I like.”

“But isn’t your ideal partner supposed to be an Omega?” Shen Luo looked out the window, remembering when he had decided to leave, Ming Shao had said he wasn’t interested in betas.

Not interested in betas—so no matter how much effort Shen Luo put in, it would be in vain.

It’s like someone who loves sweets, and you’re just a lemon tree. You endure the harsh winter, survive the scorching summer, and finally, you bear your most abundant fruit, with lemons hanging from every branch.

But you don’t realize that from the very beginning, you were never a match.

“I used to think so too.”

“But that was before I met you.” Ming Shao looked down.

Only then did Shen Luo notice the cut on the alpha’s brow.

“Liking someone isn’t about being an alpha, Omega, or beta. I’ve only just realized that.”

“I’m sorry, Luo Luo.”
