Fawn Chapter 1.9

9

The high school student turned stiff.

The shou’s hands were slightly cooled by the oil. But when they were pressed against the firm flesh, it was like sparks falling from hot oil, which instantly started to sting and burn.

The high school student was embarrassed and stiff. But fortunately, the school pants were loose, so it didn’t become too embarrassing. He walked all the way to school and the touch of the other man’s hand still seemed to linger on his spine, making him dizzy.

The high school student was a school bully and a scum, and the subject teachers in his class had already turned a blind eye to him.

The high school student sat quietly in the corner shaping a piece of wood in his hand which had begun to take the shape of a blooming rose.

It reminded him of the wilted rose on the shou’s balcony.

The high school student was withdrawn and indifferent, and no one around him dared to talk to him. It was midsummer again, and cicadas were singing outside the window. He blew the sawdust off the rose petals, only to realize that only two hours had passed.

Time seemed to slow down with the chirping of cicadas.

The high school student remembered his date after school. The date — The high school student remembered the shou’s dazed expression, and he was a bit more expectant in his heart.

Since the death of the high school student’s biological parents in a car accident, he had not been expectant about anything for a long time.

In the year when the car accident happened, the high school student was ten years old. In a blink of an eye, his life was turned upside down1sky and the earth turning upside down (idiom); fig. complete confusion / everything turned on its head, and the high school student became taciturn. At that time, the high school student was still young and lived in his aunt’s house for two years.

But after all, it was a boarding house. The high school student moved out later, and life for him became a pool of stagnant water without any waves.

The shou was the rose that broke into his life.

The feeling of anticipation was both familiar and unfamiliar. Every minute and every second became long and tormenting, but you could taste a little sweetness.

The high school student looked up at the clock three times, finally waited until class was over, and walked out without thinking about carrying his schoolbag.

Before taking two steps, he was stopped by someone. They were a friend of the high school student. The two had grown up together since they were young.

He came to ask if the high school student wanted to play ball together, but the high school student said he would not go.

The high school student thought of something. He cast his eyes on the other person and asked if they had clean clothes.

When the high school student arrived at the supermarket where the shou worked, the shou was changing the label on the shelf. His fingers were stained with some black ink. It was stained from the sign. He pursed his lips and rubbed his fingers. The ink fainted. He lowered his head and blew on the labels. Then when he turned his head, he met the gaze of the high school student.

The high school student was standing by the shelf and had been watching him quietly for an unknown amount of time.

The shou’s hand shook as if he didn’t expect the high school student to really come. He stammered, “I haven’t gotten off, gotten off work yet.”

The high school student looked at the shou with a good look and said, “I’ll wait for you.”

He said this with certainty and calmness. Shou’s eyelashes trembled, and his ears under the brim of his work hat turned red little by little.

The high school student looked at it, squeezing the shelves on the side uncomfortably. He looked away, and added bluntly, “Don’t be in a hurry.”

The shou groaned at a loss and panicked so much that he almost mislabeled the label.
