Lin Hua City.
Gao Zhengcheng finished a whole day’s work, put on his coat, and walked out of the office. Initially, for convenience, he moved his office to the end of the third floor to monitor Lu Hui’s movements at any time.
Now that Lu Hui is gone, and the serious crime team has been disbanded, every time he passes by the former serious crime team office, he recalls the scene of Lu Hui with his feet on the table, eating potato chips and watching soap operas, while Ji Fanyang helplessly cleans the table, Rao Feifei leans on the table and brushes Weibo, and Yang Jie drinks water. Now Lu Hui is nowhere to be found, Ji Fanyang has resigned, Yang Jie and Rao Feifei have returned to the third team, and the office has been moved for his use. Gao Zhengcheng sighed and walked downstairs.
“Chief Gao, heading back?”
Just as he met Rao Feifei, Gao Zhengcheng nodded, “Nothing tonight, don’t stay up too late either.”
“Thanks, Chief Gao.” Rao Feifei briskly passed by Gao Zhengcheng.
Gao Zhengcheng smiled, walked out of the office building, and headed towards the parking lot.
“Chief Gao.”
A familiar voice made Gao Zhengcheng’s heart skip a beat. He focused and walked in the direction of the voice, “Who?”
“Me.” A man with glasses, clean and neat, moved a step to the right, revealing his complete face. “Long time no see.”
“Lu Hui,” Gao Zhengcheng said. He took a few quick steps, pressed the car key, “You’re indeed alive.”
“Why else would I text you?” Song Qingchuan shrugged, “Get in?”
“Sure.” Gao Zhengcheng opened the car door. “Do you have a place to stay in Lin Hua?”
“…Hotel.” Song Qingchuan said. He opened the car door and sat in the back seat. “I’m now called Song Qingchuan.”
“Alright, Song Qingchuan.” Gao Zhengcheng readily changed the address. He started the car. “What do you want to eat?”
“Let the chief treat, wouldn’t that be inappropriate?” Song Qingchuan said.
Gao Zhengcheng rolled his eyes, “Two years ago, you didn’t say that.”
“Well, you pay, I’ll eat casually.” Song Qingchuan leaned back in his seat, took off his glasses, and hung them on his shirt pocket, returning to his usual rogue appearance.
Gao Zhengcheng drove out of the compound, asking, “Does Ji Fanyang know you’re alive?”
“I was about to ask you, where did Ji Fanyang go?” Song Qingchuan said.
“He went home, didn’t he?” Gao Zhengcheng frowned. “He bought a ticket to go back.”
“But he didn’t go back.” Song Qingchuan said. “He went undercover.”
Gao Zhengcheng eased off the accelerator, and the two stumbled a bit. “He what?”
“I just found out, had the same reaction as you.” Song Qingchuan said. “If he’s not undercover, then he found a gang boss’s daughter as his girlfriend.”
“Who are you referring to?” Gao Zhengcheng asked.
“The richest man in Zhongchuan City, Liu Kai.” Song Qingchuan casually looked out the window. “In two years, he became Liu Wei’s fiancé. I didn’t expect him to be such a big bluffer.”
“I told you, Lu Hui.” Gao Zhengcheng chuckled teasingly. “Why are you so confident?”
Song Qingchuan shrugged, “If he’s not undercover, I’ll treat you to a meal.”
“Okay, I’ll wait for that.” Gao Zhengcheng shook his head and smiled. “You’re 35 already, still haven’t found a partner?”
“No, I’m afraid of being annoyed to death.” Song Qingchuan urged, “Are we there yet? I’m starving.”
“Almost there.” Gao Zhengcheng turned off the highway.
Zhongchuan City.
In Liu Wei’s eyes, her little fiancé was a rather mysterious person.
Fan Zhe treated her gently, patiently, considerately, unlike the reckless and cool rogue who raced and played with leaves. Liu Wei wasn’t foolish; she grew up in a family environment that favored sons over daughters. Her youngest brother was clever, daring, and favored by her father, while her eldest brother was a teacher, not suitable for business.
Even though Liu Wei was naturally talented and domineering, Liu Kai still didn’t like her, saying, “A girl should stay at home and take care of her husband and children,” in Liu Kai’s words. Every time she remembered this, it made Liu Wei shudder.
Fan Zhe saw her sulking and walked over quietly, patting her shoulder gently to comfort her. Looking at Fan Zhe, Liu Wei felt that this person was a treasure given to her by heaven.
They first met in the park.
“Like the beginning of a fairy tale, Liu Wei almost had her coffee knocked out of her hand by a reckless man, and Fan Zhe caught it just in time.
Years of favoring sons over daughters had led Liu Wei to deeply distrust men, and Fan Zhe happened to be a psychologist.
It was all arranged by fate—Liu Wei became Fan Zhe’s patient.
Fan Zhe sat alone on the rooftop, holding a book, with the sunlight shining perfectly on his right side. It reminded him of the huge balcony in the house he used to share with Lu Hui.
Ji Fanyang dyed his hair, wore a pair of plain glasses, and let some of his messy hair grow longer. The contours of the young man softened into delicacy, and he became Fan Zhe.
Liu Wei was a sensitive and intelligent powerful woman, while Fan Zhe was a gentle and considerate young doctor. They seemed like a perfect couple, but they were actually a calculating couple with hidden agendas.
Liu Wei believed that Fan Zhe’s gentle and controllable nature would conveniently deceive Liu Kai, creating an illusion that she wouldn’t compete for family property, while Fan Zhe’s target was Liu Kai. Ji Fanyang, transformed by Lu Hui’s death, became a scheming undercover assassin.
From another perspective, their goals complemented each other. If Liu Kai died, Liu Wei could easily defeat her brother to secure the family property, and Fan Zhe would have his revenge.
So, who would bear the responsibility for Liu Kai’s death?
Fan Zhe’s eyes suddenly turned sinister. Then who would bear the responsibility for Lu Hui’s death?
He raised his hand and touched the pen in the pocket of his shirt, his muscles tensing like a coiled snake. Three days left until Liu Kai’s banquet.
“Chief Gao, I need a small speedboat.” Song Qingchuan wiped his mouth.
“What, planning to go fishing?” Gao Zhengcheng took the last shrimp and peeled it slowly in his hands.
“I remember there’s a lake in the mountains behind Zhongchuan City, right?” Song Qingchuan asked.
Gao Zhengcheng nodded.
“There’s a row of wooden houses there. I rented one and plan to stay for a few days.” Song Qingchuan said. “I’ll need to borrow a car too.”
“I’ll approve it for you tomorrow.” Chief Gao finished eating the shrimp and squinted his eyes. “What will you give me in return?”
“I’ll catch you a big fish.” Song Qingchuan blinked mysteriously, adding a touch of rogue charm to the clean and literary elite.
Gao Zhengcheng raised his eyebrows, shook his head, and sighed, “Forget it, I didn’t expect you to behave.”
“I am your secret weapon.” Song Qingchuan, now Lu Hui, tugged at the collar of his shirt. “Let’s see what little Ji can stir up.”
“You better worry about your personal safety.” Gao Zhengcheng kindly reminded the ambitious Song Qingchuan. “When he finds out you’re still alive and lied to him for two years, he might kill you.”
“No, he loves me.” Song Qingchuan, or rather Lu Hui, grinned, fully reclaiming his persona from two years ago.
