Shuangshuang’s father and mother sat at the dining table with stern faces, with a positive pregnancy test between them. Chen Shuangshuang sat in her chair. She looked small, pitiful, and helpless, with her head lowered, too guilty to look them in the eye.

She wanted to cry, feeling so wronged. She had taken the morning-after pill, and even for extra safety, she took it for a week. Why did she still end up like this?

As the head of the family, her father spoke first: “Tell us! Whose is it?”

This time, Shuangshuang’s mother was displeased. She pinched her husband and chided: “Can you not be so harsh? Your daughter is already upset, and you’re still scolding her!”

Her father immediately softened his tone, speaking gently: “Shuangshuang, tell us, your parents will support you.”

At this point, there was no turning back. Chen Shuangshuang gave up struggling and surrendered, muttering his name vaguely: “Zhang Dai.”

Chen’s father didn’t hear clearly, seeing his daughter’s cowering look, he stood up, pounding his chest, indignantly promising: “Who is it? Shuangshuang, don’t be afraid! Say that bastard’s name loud and clear, and I’ll tear the sky apart if I have to, to get justice for you!”

Her father’s reaction was a bit too intense, and she feared he might go after Zhang Dai with a knife. But at this point, someone had to take the blame, so she decided to let the culprit Zhang Dai face the consequences.

Shuangshuang’s mother asked uncertainly: “Is it the Zhang Dai we know?”

Chen Shuangshuang nodded heavily, as if Zhang Dai was about to be buried and she was sending him off for the last time. Sorry, Zhang Dai, but you’re on your own!

“Hahaha, that’s easy to handle! I thought it was someone else! That boy Zhang Dai is reliable, we trust him with you,” her father said, relieved.

“Oh my, why didn’t you tell us earlier? You two are dating and keeping it a secret, why? Our families are so close already, there’s no problem with getting even closer!” Chen’s mother affectionately linked arms with her, her face beaming with joy.

She had to shatter their dream: “No, I’m not dating him!”

She dejectedly returned to her room, unblocking Zhang Dai from her blacklist. Before she could call him, he called her with a forceful tone: “Chen Shuangshuang, why did you block me? Why are you avoiding me? Are you feeling guilty?”

“Oh, is that not allowed?” Chen Shuangshuang responded nonchalantly, showing no signs of remorse.

Zhang Dai was somewhat helpless, but since she had unblocked him and was taking his call, it meant things were okay.

“How have you been? I didn’t see you when I went home!”

“Oh~ just the usual!” She answered absentmindedly, internally scrambling to find the right words to tell him about the pregnancy.

“When are you coming back? I’ll pick you up!” He felt the awkward atmosphere between them and thought it best to clear things up as soon as possible.

Chen Shuangshuang decided it was better to get it over with quickly. She mustered up the courage and said, “I have something to ask you. If a friend of mine accidentally got pregnant and her family found out, but she’s about to start a new job after the New Year, do you think she should prioritize the job or the baby?”

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line, and then he cautiously asked, “That friend wouldn’t happen to be you, would it?”

She immediately flared up. Her parents had promised to give her a chance to discuss things with Zhang Dai, but they had already spilled the beans!

“How did you know? Did my mom tell you?”

Zhang Dai cautiously replied, “Isn’t it common to use ‘I have a friend’ to refer to oneself?”

Chen Shuangshuang felt so embarrassed. Her intelligence had truly dropped due to pregnancy! Pregnancy was terrifying!

“Your parents know?” Zhang Dai still hadn’t fully processed the situation.

She mumbled, “Mm-hmm.”

“I’m taking leave right now and coming home. Wait for me!” Zhang Dai abruptly hung up the phone.

He hastily took leave and boarded the high-speed train home, his emotions extremely complicated. He hadn’t expected things with Chen Shuangshuang to progress so quickly, and the thought of having a child was overwhelming.

Since the day before, Chen Shuangshuang had been isolating herself in her room, feeling utterly annoyed and frustrated to the point of nearly pulling her hair out!

What she didn’t know was that downstairs, the parents of both families were happily discussing the marriage.

“Mom, Dad, I’m home!” Zhang Dai rushed to Chen Shuangshuang’s house as soon as he arrived.

“Ah, Dai, you’re back! Shuangshuang is upstairs, go on up!” Shuangshuang’s father smiled, pointing upstairs.

“Okay, thank you, Uncle Chen!” Zhang Dai, familiar with the house, went straight upstairs.

“Shuangshuang, Shuangshuang, open the door!” It seemed she still wanted to avoid him. He knocked for a long time, but no one answered.

“Stop it! You’re so annoying!” The door suddenly opened, and Chen Shuangshuang glared at him like he was a great villain!

Her delicate and petite face seemed to have softened slightly from the pampering during the Spring Festival, though her slender figure remained unchanged. Even with messy hair, her beauty couldn’t be concealed.

He couldn’t help but blurt out, “You’ve gained weight!”

Chen Shuangshuang’s anger instantly flared up, roaring like a lioness: “You’re the one who’s gained weight! Your whole family has gained weight!”

Downstairs, the parents of both families heard the commotion and shook their heads repeatedly.

Shuangshuang’s mother remarked, “Only Ah Dai can put up with Shuangshuang’s bad temper!”

Zhang’s mother responded, “Don’t say that! Shuangshuang is such a beautiful and smart girl. Ah Dai is lucky to marry her!”

The two fathers exchanged a knowing look but remained silent, understanding the mutual flattery.

Upstairs, Zhang Dai covered his ears, feeling like his eardrums were about to burst. His gaze dropped down, landing on her stomach.

“What are you looking at!” Chen Shuangshuang blushed with embarrassment and quickly turned around, hiding under the blanket.

Zhang Dai awkwardly entered her room, looking at her curled-up, adorable figure. Scratching his head, he pondered, “Didn’t I buy you the morning-after pill? How are you still pregnant?”

This made Chen Shuangshuang even angrier: “How should I know? Maybe you’ve been eyeing me for too long and tricked me with fake pills to tie me down with a baby!”

“I didn’t, I swear I didn’t! May lightning strike me if I did!” He raised three fingers, solemnly swearing to show his sincerity.

Chen Shuangshuang stared intently into Zhang Dai’s eyes, realizing he wasn’t lying, which made her even more frustrated: “Then why did I still get pregnant after taking the pills?”
