Eight o’clock in the morning.
The rabbit head squatted in front of its little wardrobe, beginning to select the clothes it wanted to wear today.
Nan Deng had been buying it more and more clothes, ranging from simple pieces of cloth to exquisite veils, and even different ear accessories that could be clipped onto its two ears.
Its wardrobe had also been replaced with a larger one, with each piece of clothing and accessory hung on specially made tiny hangers, covering all colors.
As a Chaos God, Hui Shou had no gender. Nan Deng had even bought it a stylish baseball cap.
As long as it looked good, the rabbit head accepted whatever Nan Deng brought back.
It hung its ears down, looking through the wardrobe.
This one was worn a couple of days ago, that one was too worn out, and the color of that one was too dull and not very appealing…
After much deliberation, the rabbit head finally chose a light green sun hat with white lace on the brim and a woven little flower.
It buried its “head” to put on the hat, letting its two ears poke out from the small holes at the top, then twisted in front of the mirror to adjust the position.
The hat was custom-made, fitting perfectly with the brim at the back covering most of the rabbit head.
It looked at itself in the mirror again and again. Satisfied, it shook its eartips, closed the wardrobe, and hopped out of the room.
At this time, Nan Deng should still be asleep.
The bedroom door was half open. The rabbit head glanced inside from a distance, only seeing a corner of the quilt.
Footsteps sounded from behind. It turned around and saw Lian Yi holding a water cup, standing in the corridor outside the room.
The rabbit head exchanged a glance with him and dutifully stepped aside to let him pass.
Lian Yi entered the bedroom under its watchful gaze, and the door was shut tightly once again.
When he came out again, it would be after 9:30, when Nan Deng would finally get up.
Confirming the bedroom was quiet, the rabbit head perked its ears and its expression changed.
Time to patrol the territory!
Besides the bedroom, the rabbit head went to each window in turn, including those in the kitchen and balcony, as well as the peephole at the front door, peering outside.
It maneuvered behind the curtains, leaping onto the window sill, observing each spot for at least two minutes.
The peephole on the door was high up, so the rabbit head had to first jump onto a low cabinet, then use its ears to hook onto the door’s handle, hanging itself there.
The street outside was empty. After a while, a passerby hurried by.
The rabbit head stared intently at him until he was out of sight.
Good, no abnormalities.
After completing its patrol, the rabbit head went to the kitchen and skillfully opened its own little fridge in the corner.
This small fridge was exclusive to it, filled with some of its favorite snacks and a few small clay pots.
The jars contained fresh resentful spirits, which Lian Yi had summoned using his Ghost God power last time, capturing some before eliminating them all.
The rabbit head grabbed a clay pot, gnawed open a small hole, and devoured the resentful spirits inside until it was completely consumed.
The empty pot was tossed into the trash can, just as Nan Deng had taught it.
After finishing the resentful spirit, the rabbit head licked its lips, still somewhat unsatisfied.
It crawled back into the fridge and took out a box from the farthest corner.
Inside were several small paper figures, infused with divine power by Lian Yi. They hadn’t deteriorated despite being frozen in the fridge.
The tiny paper figures trembled in the corner, and the rabbit head counted them before eating two.
After barely filling its stomach, the rabbit head burped and returned to its room, taking off its hat to sleep.
It wasn’t until 2 o’clock in the afternoon that the rabbit head woke up from its small bed.
There was noise in the living room outside, so it put on its hat and came out to find Nan Deng.
The TV was on, and Nan Deng was sitting on Lian Yi’s lap, speaking softly to him.
The rabbit head quietly approached and overheard Nan Deng saying, “In the future… will you stop liking me?”
Lian Yi answered quietly, “No.”
“Really?” Nan Deng seemed unsure, “But we’ve been together for so long… won’t you get tired of me?”
At this point, the rabbit head’s ears twitched.
Nan Deng must have been watching some strange TV dramas again, making it unable to help but wander in random thoughts.
“No, I won’t,” Lian Yi paused, “Do you feel tired of me?”
His voice gradually deepened, his eyes growing darker, his fingertips slowly rubbing Nan Deng’s wrist.
Nan Deng was surprised, “N-no…”
The TV was still playing. Lian Yi held Nan Deng’s chin and kissed him, causing the rabbit head to turn away and stop watching.
When it felt about right, the rabbit head turned back around and hopped near the sofa.
Seeing it, Nan Deng waved, “Xiao Tu.”
The rabbit head jumped into his arms and vigorously rubbed against his palm.
The hat accidentally tilted, so Nan Deng adjusted it for him and held him while watching TV.
In the afternoon, Nan Deng had to go to the art studio to learn painting, and Lian Yi accompanied him.
The rabbit head had gone a few times too and even acted as a model. But it didn’t quite like the smell of those paints.
Coincidentally, Hei Mao and Ren Shi came over to rest, so Nan Deng left the rabbit head at home to play with them.
The balcony neatly displayed three nests. Hei Mao curled up and lay in one.
Ren Shi touched the rabbit head’s hat, wanting to borrow it to wear. After circling the rabbit head several times, it reluctantly agreed.
But the hat didn’t fit Ren Shi well. After checking in the balcony’s glass window, it returned the hat to the rabbit head.
“I’m going out,” Nan Deng came in holding a bag of jelly candies, placing it on the floor mat, “You guys behave at home. No running around, no fighting…”
The rabbit head and the two spirits rubbed against him one by one, bidding him farewell.
With a “clang”, the door opened and closed again, leaving three non-human creatures in the room.
Hei Mao sniffed at the jelly candy and cautiously pawed one out, unsure how to eat it.
Ren Shi picked up the jelly candy, thoughtfully tore open the packaging, and fed it to Hei Mao.
When it thought to open one for the rabbit head too, it saw the rabbit head burying itself in the bag, swallowing the jelly candy with its packaging.
Then, it turned and aimed at the nearby trash can, spitting out the empty jelly candy wrapper.
Repeating this several times, the rabbit head devoured the jelly candies at a rapid pace.
Ren Shi watched in astonishment. It quietly grabbed some to their side, fearing it would be all gone if left unchecked.
After finishing the jelly candies, all three creatures lay in their respective nests, basking in the sun and dozing off.
When the rabbit head woke up from its nap, it was already 8 PM. Both Hei Mao and Ren Shi had left.
Nan Deng had returned as well, and the aroma of food wafted from the dining room.
The rabbit head twitched its nose and bounced out of its nest, heading to the dining room to mooch for food.
Nan Deng was used to this and fetched a small bowl for the rabbit head, occasionally feeding it some vegetables.
Whatever was left uneaten ended up in the rabbit head’s belly too. Nan Deng rubbed its round head affectionately. “Xiao Tu, you eat everything. Such a good boy.”
The rabbit head accepted the praise calmly, nuzzling into Nan Deng’s palm.
After dinner, Nan Deng watched TV in the living room.
The rabbit head squatted by his side, pressing its furry cheek against his neck.
This would likely be the last time it saw Nan Deng today. Without any surprises, the rest of the night belonged to Lian Yi.
True to expectation, before the episode of the drama ended, Nan Deng was already taken back to the bedroom.
The rabbit head stayed on the sofa armrest, watching them leave the living room.
After hearing the bedroom door close, it continued watching TV, enjoying the spacious sofa alone.
Soon, the clock struck midnight.
The rabbit head perked up, returning to its room.
It checked its hat in the mirror to make sure it wasn’t crooked, then quietly opened the window and hopped out.
Time to patrol the area!
It was late at night, and the quiet streets were illuminated by streetlights. A streak of white and green dashed along the roadside, occasionally pausing to survey its surroundings.
The rabbit head left the outskirts and made its way to the city center. It was quiet there too, with fewer and fewer resentful spirits around, none daring to show themselves easily unless provoked by the rabbit head’s aura.
But tonight, it was dressed and didn’t intend to transform.
It continued forward, choosing its path at will.
Along the way, several patrols of celestial masters encountered the rabbit head. They immediately halted upon seeing it.
“Lord Chaos God…” one celestial master greeted respectfully, accepting the rabbit head’s scrutiny before watching it depart.
Finding no resentful spirit to catch, the rabbit head circled the entire area and headed home early.
As it passed a small alley, it heard a commotion from a household yard.
“Woof, woof!”
The rabbit head leaped onto the yard wall, glaring with its crimson eyes at the dog inside.
The dog quieted down and whimpered, retreating.
Good, it’s behaving.
The rabbit head was satisfied with its reaction, stared a bit longer, then turned and left.
Back home, it found the window crack still open and skillfully squeezed in.
It shook off its fur, removed its hat to check for any dirt, and carefully put it away.
After a busy night and feeling a bit hungry, the rabbit head went to the kitchen and ate a pot of resentful spirits and three small paper figures.
Having done all this, it returned to its room and rolled around in its small bed.
Another successful day guarding the world!
