The next day when Heewoon woke up, Seo Kangwoo was not there.

“But I wanted to ask him how old Lexy is.”

The next day, and also the day after that. Kangwoo left early in the morning and returned late at night. There were times when Heewoon was still awake, but they were too busy having sex to hold a conversation. In those blissful moments, Lexy didn’t cross Heewoon’s mind.

Heewoon could only inquire about Lexi’s age when it was the weekend.

On Sunday morning, Kangwoo, feeling tired, slept in. Heewoon unusually woke up first. Heewoon checked the time on his phone and decided to lie down a little longer.

He was planning to do some online shopping. He needed a small bag that would be convenient when walking Lexy – a bag big enough for water, a plastic bag, and some snacks.

While wandering through online malls looking for a suitable bag, Heewoon glanced at Kangwoo. Kangwoo was still sleeping. He was probably very tired. Heewoon thought that and turned his gaze back to the phone.

How much time had passed?

He was looking at his phone, but his gaze somehow went to Kangwoo’s face. Calmly descending eyelashes, a straight nose, and sunlight-kissed cheeks. Heewoon, staring at him silently, unintentionally raised his phone and took a picture.

Click. A sound came out. The sound was too loud, and Heewoon was startled. Why did he take a picture? He couldn’t understand why he took it.

Kangwoo’s evenly spread eyebrows slightly wrinkled, and his eyelids twitched. Heewoon quickly fixed his gaze on the phone and opened the online shopping screen.

“Ummmm… What time is it?”

“Ten o’clock.”

Ignoring his rapid heartbeat, Heewoon pretended to be indifferent. Kangwoo, who had brushed his hair back, lightly touched Heewoon’s cheek with the back of his hand and got up. It seemed like he was going to shower.

“Aren’t you going to shower?”

“In a bit.”

Heewoon, still looking at his phone, said casually, and Kangwoo pinched his cheek firmly before going to the bathroom. Only after the bathroom door closed did Heewoon put down his phone. While stroking his heating cheek, he looked at the picture he took earlier. He didn’t know why he took it, but the picture turned out well. So, he decided not to delete it, keeping it on the phone.

Heewoon showered in the other bathroom and, after a slightly late breakfast, went to the yard. He wanted to play with Lexy.

When Heewoon threw the ball, Lexy showed no reaction. But when Kangwoo threw it, Lexy wagged his tail and ran. He fetched the ball almost as fast as it flew. Kangwoo patted Lexy’s head.

“Good job.”

While watching Lexy scrubbing his head against Kangwoo’s hands, Heewoon asked,

“Kangwoo, how old is he?”

Kangwoo, who had been squatting down, looked at Heewoon.

“He’s six years old.”

“Ah, so he’s six years old.”

Heewoon sat down next to Kangwoo and pat Lexy’s chin. Kangwoo picked up the ball lying on the ground and handed it to Heewoon. It was likely that he wouldn’t run for it again. Heewoon, with a dubious look, showed the ball to Lexy.

“Come on. You have to run and bring this back.”

Wharf-!

Lexy barked loudly, as if answering. Startled, Heewoon twitched. Kangwoo chuckled beside him.

“Come on, bring it!”

Heewoon threw the ball forcefully to the far end of the yard. Contrary to his expectations, Lexy immediately ran after it.

“Wow, he ran. Seems like he’s finally listening to me.”

Heewoon couldn’t hide his excitement as he turned his head. He was now directly facing Kangwoo.

“….”

Kangwoo’s pupils, capturing Heewoon’s face, trembled slightly. He spoke slowly.

“Maybe because you take him for walks often.”

“Is that so?”

Petting the large dog that had put the ball on the ground, Heewooon’s face was filled with joy. His face, which rarely smiled, was now smiling.

Kangwoo, leaning his arms on his knees and tilting his head, looked at Heewoon. Sparkling pupils, curved lips, slightly swollen cheek blushing. Feeling the gaze, Heewoon asked curiously.

“…Why?”

“I thought you were only good at crying.”

With a small sigh, Kangwoo reached out his hand. He gently brushed the cheeks that were still plump with laughter.

The smell of grass and a gentle breeze surrounded them. They stood still, gazing at each other. The smile on Heewoon’s face gradually faded, and a new smile appeared on Kangwoo’s face. Soon, their smiles became the same size. It was a moment that would be remembered for a long time.

“Ah, time has already passed like this.”

Looking at the clock, Kangwoo stood up. He stretched his legs, and then reached out his hand to Heewoon. Heewoon took his hand and stood up, asking,

“Are we having lunch?”

“No. I have to go out.”

Why? Are you hungry? Kangwoo asked as he removed a small leaf stuck to Heewoon’s buttocks. Heewoon shook his head, his lips pressing into a fine line. After some hesitation, he asked.

“But it’s Sunday. Do you also work today?”

“Yes. Are you going to play here a bit more before coming in?”

“…No.”

Heewoon held Kangwoo’s hand, and they went inside. While Heewoon washed his hands and changed into comfortable clothes, Kangwoo also prepared to go out. Heewoon, sitting on the sofa, observed Kangwoo’s face. Kangwoo, who rarely laughed, now had a smile on his face.

After a while, Kangwoo, wearing a suit, came out of the dressing room with a watch on his wrist. Heewoon threw a short glance at Kangwoo, then turned his gaze to a book. Considering the current time, it seemed like Kangwoo had a lunch appointment. It would probably be a formal occasion.

“Are you going to be home late?”

Before he knew it, Heewoon had put down his book and was looking at Kangwoo with his chin resting on the back of the couch. Kangwoo leaned over and kissed Heewoon’s forehead.

“Do you want me to come back early?”

“…It’s up to you.”

Kangwoo smirked at Heewoon’s slightly averted eyes.

“I’ll try to come back as early as I can.”

“Okay.”

“Don’t cry because you miss me. Wait patiently for me.”

Kangwoo, after messing up Heewoon’s hair, checked the time and went outside. It seemed like time was tight. Well, it can’t be helped; he’s busy. That’s what Heewoon had thought until that moment.

The moment those thoughts crumbled was the very next day.
