Ghost Hunting with Blockbuster Effects

Chapter 13: Ghost Hunting with Blockbuster Effects

There was another door by the kitchen, so I decided to give it a try. To my surprise, it was locked too!

The examination venue had transformed into a makeshift prison. I was about to engage in a thrilling escape room challenge while also contending with a ghost.

For an ordinary person like me, it seemed like an impossible task!

But hey, when it comes to gaming, the more impossible the mission, the more I, Xia Xiaolan, am up for it!

I couldn’t help but feel a tingling sense of excitement~~~

Without wasting any time, I placed the bundle of dangerous items on the large marble countertop near the door. Then, I headed towards the sink. In horror movies, the sink is often a treacherous spot, filled with strange things like hair. So, I grabbed a wrench and directly removed the faucet. I wrapped it in plastic wrap. In the kitchen, plastic wrap is like a magical tool!

Ha! This is where my tomboyish nature and exceptional practical skills shine. It’s just my dad and me, and at home, I’m no stranger to doing all sorts of tasks.

Swiftly, I blocked the pipe opening, stuffed cloth into all the drains, and sprinkled salt around them to prevent anything peculiar from reaching out. In both Western and Eastern horror movies, salt is believed to possess the power to ward off evil. Whether it’s true or not, I figured it’s worth a shot. I also scattered a line of salt at the entrance to the kitchen since it’s an open-plan setup, requiring a larger amount of salt.

The kitchen also had a few gas pipes. I wrapped them around my waist using packing tape for convenience.

As I rummaged through the drawer, I found matches, lighters, and an igniter. Considering their track record in horror movies, I opted for the igniter without hesitation. I gave it a quick test, and it worked perfectly. I also decided to keep the lighter in my pocket, just in case.

Next, I ignited the stove in the kitchen, and instantly, a vibrant blue flame shot up. I then dismantled a mineral water bottle, using a soup pot to collect half a pot of water, which I placed by the stove.

Hmm… dismantling a mineral water bottle might not seem appropriate if any guys were around, but oh well, passing the challenge takes priority.

I took out oil, wine, and there were even two bottles of 50% alcohol content white wine in the kitchen. I uncorked all the bottles and stuffed pieces of cloth into the vegetable oil and sesame oil bottles. To prevent any leaks, I placed a few sheets of paper towels on top of the wine bottles, which I turned upside down to moisten the towels.

“Ten, nine, eight, seven…”

Wait, what? The countdown had already begun! Without a moment’s hesitation, I grabbed a hammer from the toolbox, hurried to the kitchen window, and delivered a forceful strike.

“Three, two, one.”

“Crash!” Glass fragments scattered in all directions, twinkling like stars in the night as they disappeared into the darkness outside.

“Click.” The kitchen lights flickered briefly. I glanced back, only to find the suspended timer had vanished, leaving the entire villa shrouded in an eerie silence, resembling a dormant graveyard.

I had no time to succumb to fear. With the hammer in hand, I continued clearing the broken glass from the window frame, ensuring I wouldn’t get injured. Gripping the hammer tightly felt more practical.

I tossed all the bundled knives and forks out of the window since the ghosts in the house rarely ventured outside. Having heard countless ghost stories, I knew they were bound within these walls, making the exterior a safer refuge.

Suddenly, the temperature inside plummeted, causing the hairs on my body to stand erect in the chilling air. I turned around, on guard, facing the entrance. The lights abruptly went out with a resounding “crack.” How cliché, lacking any originality.

“Achoo!” I sneezed from the cold and rubbed my arms, trying to generate some warmth.

Grabbing the frying pan lid and wielding the hammer, I took cover behind the stove. The flickering flames illuminated the kitchen, as I knew that turning on the lights would be futile—there was no hope of them working.

I carefully ignited the vegetable oil and sesame oil bottles, already drenched, and placed them strategically on the stove to create a brighter light source.

“Hehe…” Laughter reminiscent of a child’s echoed through the darkness.

“Tak, tak, tak, tak…” The sound of a rolling ball reverberated in the silent obscurity. “Snap, snap, snap, snap.” Something akin to a bouncing ball was approaching me in the dark.

Abandoning the lid and hammer, I picked up a pot to confront the entity—better suited for the task than the lid alone.

That ominous black sphere leaped over my defense line of salt, and with a “gurgle,” it came to rest right in front of me, bathed in the flickering glow—a pile of hair!

“Hmph! I knew it was your head!” I smirked triumphantly.

“Stay with me…” As the head swiveled towards me, I didn’t hesitate to clamp the pot down! Come on, I’ve been watching ghost movies since I was six—did you really think I wouldn’t recognize a ghost’s head? Hmph! I’ve grown up on horror films!

“Ah! Let me out! Let me out!” It thrashed about inside.

Pressing down firmly on the pot, I propelled myself forward, reaching a massive double-door freezer. I promptly sat down on the pot, which emitted a hollow sound, calmly opened the refrigerator, and removed all the frozen boxes from the compartment. Shifting slightly, I lifted one side of the freezer with a resounding “thud!” The head darted out—it had no choice but to plunge into the only exit I had left for it: the freezer!

“Ah!” Startled, the head froze, and I swiftly slammed the door shut!

“Thud!” I trapped that head, desperate to escape, inside.

“Thump! Thump!” It banged against the inside, trying to break free.

With one hand leaning on the refrigerator, I casually brushed away my disheveled bangs with the other. “Even in death, you can’t behave. Don’t you understand that dead people should be preserved in the freezer? Don’t you get it, you fool?”

Suddenly, all sound ceased from within. It must have quieted down.

In ghost stories on TV, there were generally two types of ghosts. The first kind resembled souls, ethereal and intangible. You could pass right through them, and they could traverse any object. These types typically played the romantic leads in ghost movies. Well, I hadn’t seen them as the main characters in horror films.

The more common kind were those with a physical presence—relentlessly chasing and killing, a truly hair-raising experience. I wasn’t sure if my understanding of ghost movies applied here, but desperate times called for desperate measures.

“My head… give me back my head!” Before I could catch my breath, a headless woman emerged slowly from the darkness. But as she reached the kitchen, she abruptly halted her steps. Ah, salt proved useful indeed!

“Crack!” Her body bent downward, and I reached for my trusty hammer and pot lid. “Crack!” Her hands began to fold as well. She stood on all fours just beyond the salt boundary. Then, in a sudden burst, she leaped in place! I stood there, dumbfounded, as she leaped onto the roof!

“Whoa! This thing is agile! It can even climb walls!” From the rooftop, she swiftly descended above me. In one swift motion, she extended her hand, and the refrigerator door flew open. The severed head flew out, narrowly missing me as I instinctively raised the pot lid.

“Duang~~~” The head collided with the reinforced glass lid of the pot. “Thud.” It fell onto the stove right in front of me. Without hesitation, I grabbed her hair and opened the microwave oven beneath the stove, tossing her inside. The action was so swift that even I didn’t have time to react—it was a purely instinctive response. Only afterwards did I realize my palms were coated with a sticky, rotten-flesh-like residue, accompanied by a nauseating stench.

I wiped my hands on my clothes, then crouched down to inspect the head inside the microwave. It glared at me angrily. “Uh… uh… let me out…”

I shrugged. “Sorry, it’s just a reflex to react to flying objects. I’m used to swatting mosquitoes and flies.”

“Ah… ah…”

“You’re making too much noise!” I frowned and simply turned on the microwave. She looked at my hand in panic. “Don’t… don’t…”

“Don’t?” I raised an eyebrow. “I don’t care about your opinion. I’m just aiming to pass. If you have any complaints, go find the authorities at the Divine and Demon Academy.”

“Ah!” she screamed in anger, her eyes wide open, but before she could finish, “Thud!” I felt a heavy object crashing down on me, accompanied by a nauseating stench—it was her body.

Quickly, I crawled out from under the putrid corpse. Suddenly, my legs were grabbed, so I turned around and grabbed the hammer, smashing it onto her hand that held me.

“Ah!” The head in the microwave cried out in pain as I managed to break free. I stood up and grabbed a pot of water to extinguish the flames on the stove, instantly dimming the entire kitchen. Only two oil bottles remained on the stove.

At the same time, I heard a hissing sound—a gas leak.

In the dim light, the woman’s body attempted to open the microwave again. I swiftly took out a gas canister, grabbed one of the oil bottles, moved away from the stove, and aimed at the woman’s hand, spraying gas.

“Whoosh!” Flames surged toward the ghost’s hand.

“Ah… Ah…” The ghost’s body repeatedly retreated. I discarded the gas canister and noticed the smell of gas in the air. Without hesitation, I grabbed a liquor bottle, ran to the window, quickly climbed out, and stood at a safe distance. I turned around, used a lighter to ignite the tissue paper at the mouth of the bottle, and swiftly threw it inside.

“Thud!” Sparks flew as fire erupted. In the midst of the flames, the woman stood up, placing her head back on her neck. As soon as I saw that, I immediately ignited the bottle again and threw it at her!

“Thud!” Flames erupted once more. The woman stood rigidly with her hands stretched out in front, glaring at me angrily. Her burnt face had bloodied, blurred eyes, with one eyeball almost falling out of its socket.

“Ah… Ah…” Furious roars filled with intense hatred towards me made me feel a twinge of guilt.

“I’m sorry…” I uttered the three words, but before they could fully escape my mouth, “Boom!” There was an explosion from inside. The powerful shockwave sent me flying, and I landed heavily on the ground. “Thud!” I felt my buttocks shatter into pieces, and the pain was unbearable—I couldn’t even scream.

“Snap!” The kitchen door was also blown away, startling me.

“Hiss…” I gasped as I got up, rubbing my sore buttocks. As I glanced at the raging flames inside the room, I couldn’t help but shout in excitement, “Awesome!”

Damn it! It’s like a scene from a Hollywood blockbuster! Blowing up a house and everything—it’s so thrilling!

Can you do that in real life? Would you dare to do it?!

“Hahaha—awesome!” I laughed heartily, but as I continued to laugh, my mouth started twitching because I saw the woman stepping out of the inferno, walking towards me step by step, exiting through the kitchen door! Her entire body was charred black, with only her blood-red eyes remaining! And I couldn’t find her original eyes that were once in her eye sockets—they seemed to have been blown somewhere else, leaving dark, empty sockets that were particularly eerie.

Damn it! Weren’t they supposed to be unable to leave the room!
