The Sudden Appearance of a Faithful Dog

Chapter 18: The Sudden Appearance of a Faithful Dog

“Gujiu, Gujiu.”

What was that sound? I was sound asleep. After hearing Jiang Yan’s words last night, I couldn’t fall asleep for a long time. And just as I finally drifted off, peculiar sounds began.

“Gujiu, Gujiu.” Suddenly, something cold and hard landed on my face, jolting me awake and leaving me feeling a bit dizzy. I caught a glimpse of a yellow, fluffy creature perched on my blanket.

As my vision gradually cleared, I realized it was a small, chubby, yellow chicken wearing half an eggshell, comfortably settled on my bed. I was instantly captivated by its adorable appearance.

“Gujiu, Gujiu, I’m **.”

I couldn’t help but melt into a smile as I beheld the endearing creature. However, the name it introduced itself with caught me off guard.

“In the name of my master, I am currently serving as your new student guide,” it said in a high-pitched voice, sitting inside the eggshell with a cool and self-assured expression. It was as if I had won the lottery by having it as my guide.

Rubbing my eyes, I glanced at the window. The soft morning light seeped through the open window, suggesting that the chicken had entered from there. I turned back to it and asked, “Who is your master?”

“My master is Feng Lingcan!” it proclaimed proudly. “He is the kindest person in the immortal realm and the most handsome man in Xianyu’s eyes.” Its excitement caused its color to transition from yellow to pink in an instant, as it covered its face with its wings.

I stared at it in astonishment. “So… you’re… Feng Lingcan’s **?”

“Yes!” It looked up at me with pride, and its pink color reverted back to golden yellow. “Now that you know, let’s get started.”

“Why are you so indifferent?!” The chicken seemed displeased. It crossed its wings, settling back into its eggshell and remarked, “Do you know who my master is? It’s an immense stroke of luck to have his guidance!”

It even recited lines like it was from a script!

“Hmph! Take this!” It rummaged inside the eggshell and pulled out a map several times larger than itself. I couldn’t believe it. Did this chicken have a hidden pocket? It appeared that my own possessions here were no match for a mere chicken’s.

It placed the map in front of me and said, “Master said you might need it.”

I immediately focused my attention on the map. It was alive and three-dimensional, with tiny houses depicted on it, engaging in conversations!

“Look, look, that fool is staring at us.”

“Damn it! Who’s the idiot?”

“Hehehe, look at her foolish appearance.”

I’m outta here!

“Surprisingly, she’s just a mortal. I bet she won’t survive a day here.”

“You lost. She was here yesterday~~”

“Ah~~~~ Why did the master give us to this idiot~~~~”

“Well… we shouldn’t follow this mortal…”

With a stern face, I forcefully closed the map, decisively got out of bed, and searched for the lighter I used last night. “Snap!” It opened!

“What are you doing?!” The little yellow chicken jumped up immediately.

I glared at it with a dark expression. “I don’t need such a chatterbox!” I brought the lighter closer.

“Ah~~~~~ Help! Help!~~~~~”

“Beauty, spare us—”

From inside came a chorus of crying. I smiled disdainfully, “Whoosh!” I opened the map again, and the little houses inside were squeezed together. I looked at them with a dark gaze. “Feng Lingcan gave you to me, so you’re mine! If any of you dare blabber again, I’ll burn you all!”

“Sob…” They huddled together and started sobbing.

I raised my face, gazed darkly at the little yellow chicken, and its body instantly stiffened. “What do you want to do to **?”

“Shut up! What a ridiculous name.” I glanced at it and licked my lips. “Perfect timing, I haven’t had breakfast.” Step by step, I approached it, the black shadow falling upon the bed, enveloping its entire body.

It trembled, step by step, backing away, and suddenly, it retreated into its eggshell!

“Hahaha—”

It poked its head out, glaring fiercely at me with its two green bean eyes. “I’m going to tell the master on you! Hmph!” It stood up, spread its golden wings, “Pala la,” and flew out of the window, even turning back to make a face at me. “Hey—”

“I closed the window with a ‘thump,’ and it flew up and down outside in anger. I calmly spread out the map. The little houses were now well-behaved. Senior Feng Lingcan is really kind. This map is so useful for me.”

“Where can I find a job?” I asked.

Immediately, at the southeast corner of the map, right below the bridge at the city gate where I entered initially, a chubby house silently raised its hand. “It’s here with me, but try to come early. There are limited job opportunities every day, first come, first served.”

First come, first served?

I quickly turned around and rushed to the bathroom to freshen up.

“Brush, brush, brush.”

“Wipe, wipe, wipe.”

Well, I need to look presentable.

I neatly combed my hair and smiled at the mirror.

“You look beautiful today too,” the mirror said.

I continued the conversation, “Thank you… Holy crap!” I suddenly snapped back to reality and grabbed my toothbrush. “You can talk?”

In the mirror, transparent features appeared. “Yes, I can even be your advisor for everything related to the school. You can ask me.”

I held the toothbrush and examined it up and down, then turned around to look at the toilet and bathtub, and turned my head back to glare at it fiercely. “You’re not allowed to peek when I use the restroom or take a shower!”

“Okay,” it smiled with squinted eyes and even covered its eyes with its hands.

“Phew.” I let go of the toothbrush. I really have to be cautious with things here. “By the way, when does school start after passing the exam?”

It removed its hands from covering its eyes and smiled at me. “In the past, it started on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month. Freshmen enter the school early to adapt to college life. After school starts, tuition is fully waived, but students need to buy their own stationery and various equipment.”

“And equipment…” my face wrinkled up, like when playing a game.

It squinted and smiled at me. “Of course, you’ll need equipment. We’re the Divine and Demon Academy. Students focus on practical combat and are often assigned missions such as ghost hunting, exorcism, formations, and setting up barriers. All of these require equipment. Stronger individuals can also take bounty missions to capture fugitives from the six realms.”

It sounds so cool!

“So, everything starts with money. Otherwise, you won’t be able to afford any equipment,” he said.

I frowned. “Do I need you to remind me? Even eating requires money. I won’t waste any more time with you. I’m going to earn money.”

“I suggest you upgrade your phone card first,” he smiled. “Here, phones work just like your bank cards. You can store and withdraw money, and it’s convenient for shopping. Your earnings from work will be directly deposited into your card as well.”

I took out my phone and contemplated. It did seem very convenient. I smiled at him. “Thanks, bye.” I turned around and walked away, hearing his voice behind me, “I’m glad to finally have someone decent living in my house.”

Suddenly, I tripped over my feet. So, he thinks that ‘Mao Mao’ and the others aren’t decent! This mirror that judges people based on their appearance!

Early in the morning, while ‘Mao Mao’ and the others were still asleep, I packed a small bag and went downstairs alone. As I organized my things and prepared to leave, I hesitated at the door because there was a guy sitting outside!

I examined his figure. Silver-gray short hair, neatly groomed. A pair of silver-gray, dog-like ears stood atop his head, turning slightly when I opened the door. The white diamond earring on his ear sparkled in the morning light.

He clearly knew I was coming out, yet he sat calmly with his back to me on the steps in front of our door, motionless. He wore a white and blue polka-dot shirt with a pleasant texture, and the design around the waist accentuated his well-built physique.

I raised an eyebrow. There are so many peculiar people here. I better hurry.

I closed the door and walked past him.

“Stop!” he suddenly shouted. Startled, I turned my head to look at him, and instantly, a handsome and clean face entered my field of vision. His emerald-green eyes immediately captivated me.

Those emerald-green eyes were fixed on my face, his clean and fair complexion with a hint of rosy color. His straight nose and tightly pursed lips made him appear particularly resolute. Sitting there with his ears perked up, he resembled a fierce desert wolf coldly gazing at you, giving you a chilling sensation.

“Who… are you looking for?” I asked cautiously.

He clasped his hands under his chin, still staring at me without any movement. “I am looking for ‘Mao Mao’…”

“Oh, you’re looking for ‘Mao Mao’? She’s here. I’m going to find a job, so I won’t accompany you. Goodbye.” I waved at him, interrupting his words, leaving him momentarily stunned.

I quickly left.

Suddenly, a gust of wind swept through, lifting my long hair. The strands of silver-gray cascaded across my field of vision, and once again, he stood before me, his emerald-green eyes fixated on me with a cold gaze. “I’m looking for you,” he said.

I was taken aback, pointing at myself. “Looking for me?”

“Yes, looking for you,” he confirmed.

Confusion filled my gaze as I observed him. “But didn’t you say you were looking for ‘Mao Mao’?”

He looked down at me from a higher vantage point. “I am ‘Mao Mao’s’ brother, Mo Ming.”

“Oh… brother… What! Brother!” I stared at him in astonishment. “How come you don’t have fur? Are you really her brother? Are you from the same litter? Cousin?”

Instantly, his face darkened, and he spoke coldly, “I am her biological brother.”

My jaw dropped in disbelief. They… are truly blood-related siblings?

His expression regained composure. “Mao Mao possesses the invisible gene. Only one in ten thousand werewolves turns out like her.”

“Oh…” Understanding dawned on me after his explanation. “So, what do you want with me?”

A glimmer of sharpness flashed in his emerald-green eyes as he intensely stared at me. “I want you to be my master!”

Once again, I was dumbfounded.

What did he say?

He wants me to be his master?

And his eyes, his tone, clearly command me!

Doesn’t this sound more like he wants me to be his servant rather than his master?

“Heh. Heh.” My mouth twitched. “Are you trying to amuse me early in the morning? Stop kidding around, I’m in a hurry to find a job.” I patted his chest and walked past him.

These offspring of gods and demons, they truly are… too boring!

“Phew!” Just as I took a few steps, suddenly, a silver-gray figure flew past me again, creating a strong gust of wind. I stopped in anger. “Are you playing with me?” I froze, unable to continue speaking because what I saw was no longer Mo Ming, but a massive, silver-gray wolf!

His emerald-green eyes coldly stared at me. “Climb on, I’ll take you there.” The commanding tone remained, and his entire presence emitted an aura of dominance, akin to that of a wolf king!
