GCLA Chapter 23

The False Loyalty of the Dog

Chapter 23: The False Loyalty of the Dog

“Are you okay?” Mo Ming steadied me, standing by my side, his vivid green eyes wide with surprise.

I stared at him, perplexed. “What’s the matter?”

He pointed at me. “You’ve turned black.”

Black?

I glanced at myself. Oh damn! Completely black!

My hands, my entire front, even my face felt hot. I rushed to the fountain and caught a glimpse of my reflection. Well, look at that! A face as black as night, the only hint of white being my eyes.

Me!

Me!

I suppressed the primal scream welling up inside me and turned directly to Mo Ming. “Go and get rid of that damn chicken for me!”

“That’s absolutely impossible,” he promptly refused.

“Then why did you say you wanted me to be your master?” I angrily wagged my blackened finger at him. He calmly regarded me with his piercing emerald eyes. “Yes, I want you to be my master, so you have to challenge the chicken yourself.”

What kind of twisted logic is that?!

Isn’t a servant supposed to obey their master?

Why does this servant, who insists on making me his master, never listen to a word I say? And he even commands me as if he were my master!

Disgusting!

“A bunch of lunatics! I’ve had enough!” I flung off the scorched apron and spun around to leave! Before I turned away, I noticed Xuan Yuan Chen standing by the window, observing us intently. Don’t worry, I’m not interested in your man. I’m out of here.

Mo Ming followed after me. “I’ll walk you down.”

“No need!” I raised my black claws and stood by the edge of the lawn, overlooking the stacked small buildings below. I glared up at him fiercely. “You stay away from me too! Go find your mightiest warrior!”

He remained calm as he looked at me. “You can’t go down. You’re a mortal.” His gaze was ordinary, and the more ordinary it seemed, the more it conveyed his belief that I couldn’t possibly descend on my own from here. No matter how you looked at it, it was impossible for a mortal like me to go down from here.

I curled my lips into a cold smile. “The more you think I can’t do something, the more Xia Xiaolan wants to prove it to you!”

“Don’t do anything foolish!” He reached out to stop me, his expression as if he feared I would commit suicide.

“Get away!” I swatted his hand away and stomped my foot, shouting, “Take me down!”

Instantly, two vines sprouted from the lawn beneath my feet, wrapping around my body. Mo Ming, with his wide emerald eyes filled with astonishment, looked at me. The vines lifted me off the edge of the lawn, suspending me in mid-air. I pointed at my head, while he stared blankly at me, and said, “I may be a mortal, but I’m not stupid! I can draw conclusions from one situation and apply them to others! If the lawn sends me up when I want to clean the windows, it means this house has some sort of spiritual nature! Hmph! I won’t be your master, I don’t need a servant who doesn’t listen to me! I don’t want to see you again!” With that, the vines quickly descended, carrying me down. I passed by one beautiful and distinctive small building after another until I landed steadily on the grass. In front of me was our dilapidated house and my roommates.

Qing Ming, Jiang Yue, Si Yino, and Mao Mao were all sitting outside the door. When they saw me, they ran over with concern, their eyes wide in surprise. “What happened to you?!”

“Why is Xiaolan all black?” Mao Mao touched my face. “Where did you go all morning? We were so worried. This is the Immortal Realm, and you’re not familiar with it. What if something happened to you, we…”

She paused, and at the same time, Jiang Yue, Qing Ming, and Si Yino looked behind me.

I furrowed my brows, not needing to look to know that the false loyal lapdog had followed.

“Mo, Mo Ming, Senior!” Si Yino exclaimed, shrinking behind Qing Ming.

“Brother!” Mao Mao happily ran from my side to behind me. “How did you come here?”

I turned my face slightly to look behind me, then I heard Mo Ming’s calm voice. “Because I want Xia Xiaolan to be my master.”

“Clang!” Jiang Yue dropped the blood bag in his hand, staining the ground with dog blood.

I frowned. “Mao Mao, make your brother take his medicine!” After saying that, I strode into the house, immediately followed by a bunch of hangers-on!

“I want you to be my master.” Mo Ming followed closely behind me.

“I said I don’t want to see you!” I walked towards the kitchen to wash my face.

“Brother, are you serious?”

“Yes, I’m very serious.”

“You can’t force me no matter how serious you are!” I snapped at them, noticing everyone gathered in the kitchen—Qing Ming, Jiang Yue, and Si Yino.

Mo Ming and Mao Mao stood beside me, and Mo Ming stared at me with an unusually serious expression. “You must become my master!”

I narrowed my eyes and rolled up my sleeves. “What do you use to kill werewolves?!”

“Silver bullets,” Mo Ming calmly replied, pointing to his heart and then his forehead. “Here and here. But I doubt you can hit me.”

I glared fiercely at Mo Ming, but he maintained his calm, emerald gaze. Nobody outside the door dared to speak, all squeezing together to witness the exchange between me and Mo Ming.

Mao Mao grew nervous and grabbed Mo Ming’s arm. “Brother… If you want Xiaolan to be your master, you can’t use a commanding tone. She’s a girl. You have to pursue her like…”

“That’s absolutely impossible!” Mo Ming cut off Mao Mao, turning to face her. “I don’t like her, so why would I pursue her?”

Damn it, does he have to say those things to my face? I may not be a Mary Sue, but I still have my dignity!

“No, no…” Mao Mao stole a glance at me and gestured to Mo Ming with her eyebrows. “I mean, in that kind of way…”

“What if Xia Xiaolan takes it seriously?” Mo Ming’s tone remained calm. “I just want her to be my master. I don’t want her to be my girlfriend.”

“Have you said enough?!” I truly wanted to strangle someone.

Mao Mao tightened her grip on Mo Ming’s arm. “Brother! If you keep saying things like that, Xiaolan will never agree to be your master! Get out! You go first! Go!”

Mao Mao awkwardly smiled at me and forcefully pushed Mo Ming away.

As Mo Ming passed by Qing Ming and the others, Qing Ming looked at him and said, “If you accept Xia Xiaolan as your master, you have to live here, not in the palace. Have you really thought it through?”

Mo Ming stood in front of Qing Ming, earnestly staring at him with his emerald eyes. “Of course…”

“Let’s go!” Mao Mao pushed him directly, causing Mo Ming to stumble forward, while Mao Mao dragged and pulled him away.

“Phew…” I grabbed a few napkins and wiped my face, removing a smudge of black.

“Why didn’t you agree? Mo Ming is the strongest werewolf,” Qing Ming said, holding a new bag of blood against the door as he sucked on it.

Leaning against the edge of the sink, I faced them with my hands supporting me. “I don’t trust him, and I don’t believe in him. I’ve heard about it,” I turned around and rested against the sink. “Mo Ming only acknowledges the strongest person as his master. Xuan Yuanchen has always wanted him, but Mo Ming hasn’t accepted him as his master. So, what makes you think I’m stronger than Xuan Yuanchen?” I looked at them.

Si Yino’s face hid behind Xiaobai, clearly not wanting to discourage me.

Jiang Yue calmly observed me. “You don’t surpass him in any way.”

“Yeah,” Qing Ming added with affirmation.

“That’s the problem!” I crossed my arms. “I don’t know if it’s something those princes came up with out of boredom.”

“Them?” Jiang Yue questioned, confused.

I maintained a serious expression. “I mean Xuan Yuanchen, Fusu, Guang Shen, Mo Ming, and the others. I went to the royal palace to clean today.”

“Ahem! Hahaha!” Jiang Yue burst into laughter, while Qing Ming patted his back and gave me a thumbs-up. “Impressive!”

Si Yino peeked out from behind her long bangs and admired me. “Sister Xiaolan, you’re really bold…”

I pointed angrily at my clothes. “I regret it so much! I don’t understand why they, being deities, would need someone to clean for them?”

“It’s about ‘prestige!'” Qing Ming suddenly said. I looked at his expressionless face. “‘Prestige’?”

“Yes,” he nodded, looking at Jiang Yue as if asking him to explain. Jiang Yue wiped the corner of his mouth and said, “It’s about having someone serve them to demonstrate their noble status.”

“I see!”

“And it’s also a way to mess with girls,” Jiang Yue added while drinking from a blood bag. “Because they know once this task is announced, many girls will flock to it, and they can take the opportunity to humiliate them.”

“That’s really how it is!” I angrily pounded my fist. “They’re so disgusting! I actually thought Xuan Yuanchen, being a Virgo, would seek perfection! They are truly extraordinary, especially Mo Ming, he’s just inexplicable!”

“But the Wolf God clan is a godly race that values trust,” Jiang Yue’s voice became more serious and respectful. “So, Mo Ming wouldn’t play games with you.”

“Why is that?” I was truly puzzled. I looked at them, and they also wore perplexed and confused expressions, exchanging glances.

“Because my brother believes that the strongest person is the one who can accomplish impossible tasks…” Mao Mao’s voice came as she walked out from beside the door, appearing exhausted. Everyone made way for her, and she sighed, looking at me. “Xiaolan, my brother is really interested in you.”

“Huh?!” I was completely dumbfounded.

Mo Ming’s definition of strength differed from others. While most people considered the strongest to be the most formidable, he believed that the strongest were those who could accomplish impossible tasks. But then, how would one define an impossible task?
