Chapter 37: I Will Ruin Your Appearance!

“By the way,” he glanced around and suddenly looked serious, “there’s something I want to ask you. It’s not convenient here. I’ll take you back first before I discuss it.” He smiled slightly at me, walking to my side as if he really intended to accompany us back to the rundown cabin.

Just at that moment, a flash of red appeared in front of us. My heart immediately raced, and Feng Lingcan, at the same moment, swiftly reached out beside me, grasping the hand that was reaching for my mask!

“Smack!” Feng Lingcan caught the hand that was attempting to remove my mask. However, that hand had already taken off my mask. Instantly, everyone present was left in astonishment. I stood frozen amidst numerous startled gazes, experiencing an unprecedented humiliation!

“Ah! Her face!”

“Oh my goodness! Even the doctor didn’t help her change her face?”

“What kind of creature is that?”

“Ugh! Disgusting!”

The people around us all seemed to disappear. I thought this might be why Maomao didn’t want to stand before others. Because she was being judged, ridiculed, and despised by so many heartless gazes.

Fu Su also stood rigidly before me. The mask fell from his hand.

“Fu su! You’ve gone too far!” Feng Lingcan angrily pushed him away, hastily picking up the fallen mask to put it back on me. I extended my hand, holding onto the mask, looking at Fu su. Are you satisfied now? Did you have your fun?!

However, words failed me. All I could do was to glare fiercely at him!

The next moment, Fu su turned around and retched, “Ugh! It’s so nauseating! Ugh—ugh—”

Feng Lingcan tried to reach out to grab Fu su, but I took a step forward and grabbed Fu su’s shoulder before him. Fu Su immediately jerked away in alarm, “Don’t touch me, you monster!” He stared at me with a disgusted expression as if I were some kind of monstrous creature.

“Fu Su!” Suddenly, someone shouted in sync with Feng Lingcan, and a silver-gray figure descended. Angry voices of Mo Ming accompanied his arrival as he asked Xia Xiaolan, “Why didn’t you summon me for battle? I am your guardian!”

Anger transformed into a murderous intent. I shot a cold look at Mo Ming, and in an instant, he froze upon seeing me. Tremors ran through the emerald green eyes. I cast a chilly glance at him, then turned and lunged directly at Fu Su.

Because I am a mortal, Fu Su had no guard against me whatsoever. One could say that he never imagined I would strike him! In his eyes, I was merely a plaything, something he could trample upon just like grass.

I lunged directly at Fu Su, catching him off guard. His feet stumbled backward, and he fell onto his back. I straddled him, grabbing his collar without giving him a moment to resist. Swiftly, I buried my face against his!

Fu Su, most afraid of filth!

“Ah!” Fu Su exclaimed, his killing intent rising as he raised his hand to slap me.

“Fu Su! She’s a mortal!” Feng Lingcan urgently shouted.

Instantly, Fu Su’s hand froze in mid-air. In the next moment, he used his male strength to forcefully push me away. I fell back and sat, and he hurriedly got up from under me, quickly pulling out a wet cloth to wipe his face while looking at me with resentment. “You’re insane! You’ll infect me!”

“Hmph…” I chuckled darkly. Fu Su’s expression began to darken within my smile. He narrowed his eyes and stared at me with intensity. “You did it on purpose!”

Feng Lingcan helped me up, and with a sinister smile, I slowly put on the mask. “Not bad! I did it on purpose, damn it!”

When Lin Qianru was possessed by the faceless creature, she had mucus on her face. And now, my face was in the same condition. So, the ugliness on my face could be contagious!

Fu Su glared at me with intense hatred, his beautiful elongated eyes almost emitting fire.

“Fu Su, I think the most important thing for you now should be to go see the doctor,” Feng Lingcan calmly spoke, a leisurely smile playing on his lips. “You know the poison from the faceless creature. If you delay, it might truly become incurable.”

Fu Su held the wet cloth, filled with a killing intent, and stared at me. Suddenly, a cruel smirk appeared on his face. “Xia Xiaolan! You’re as good as dead!” He issued the threat with intensity. In an instant, a red flash from his feet, his crimson sword, and he vanished from my sight.

“Hmph…” I continued to smirk darkly. Truly satisfying!

Now, let’s see who would dare to touch me! I’ll let whoever it is experience facial ruin!

“I’m sorry…” a dry voice came from beside me, tinged with a choked sound. I looked over and saw Mo Ming, his face lowered, body tense, and a deep self-blaming expression on his face. “I failed in my duty,” he said.

Feng Lingcan looked at Mo Ming, and Qing Ming stood next to him, patting his shoulder and nodding at him. “Go home,” Qing Ming said.

Mo Ming kept his face lowered all along, clearly overwhelmed by self-reproach. I didn’t know what to say to console him. I couldn’t find the words right now. Also, because he had consistently failed to protect me before, during the battle, I didn’t even consider his role as a guardian.

But what would calling him here achieve? He would still stand by and watch, telling me to make myself stronger. However, perhaps he was here now, and he might use his vast experience to guide us…

Because I didn’t know what to say, I turned to Sī Yīnò. Taking the sickbeds of Jiang Yan and Māomao, I left directly. Mò Míng silently followed behind the beds, and Qīng Míng accompanied him.

Fēng Língcàn walked to my side, escorting us home.

Once we were back home, Mò Míng didn’t enter the rundown cabin. Instead, he silently sat on the steps outside. Sī Yīnuò and Qīng Míng accompanied Jiang Yan and Māomao back to their rooms. I took Fēng Língcàn to my room since he had something to ask me.

Fēng Língcàn entered my room with me, closing the door casually behind him. He then looked around my small space. My room was cluttered with things I liked. Although messy, it felt cozy to me, giving me a sense of home.

“What’s the matter?” I typed on my phone.

Fēng Língcàn glanced at the message and looked at me earnestly. “Do you remember seeing anything while you were unconscious?”

I paused, vaguely recalling his conversations with the doctor during my unconscious state.

Seeing my confusion, he added, “Like going to a certain place?”

Behind my mask, I looked at him, catching a glimpse of depth in his eyes. This added a touch of distance to his gentle face. Fortunately, the mask shielded all expressions. But… it seemed that even my current face couldn’t display emotions.

I lowered my head and began typing on my phone: I feel like I went somewhere, but I can’t remember.

Fēng Língcàn stared at the message seriously, his expression growing even more solemn.

I felt that this ambiguous response was better. People in the palace were far from simple. For some reason, despite Fēng Língcàn always helping me and appearing to be a very amiable senior, I couldn’t trust him the way I trusted Jiang Yan, Qīng Míng, Sī Yīnuò, and Māomao.

The occasional depth in his eyes made me always feel that his thoughts were unfathomable.

Translator’s note: Fu Su and Xia Xiaolan, the transformation of these two from enemies to lovers is so hilarious. LOL. (mini spoiler)
