Chapter 8: The Unbeatable Charm of the Principal
I found it strange that Xuan Yuanchen hadn’t pressed any buttons, yet I could distinctly feel the elevator moving once again.
“Ding.” The elevator doors opened, revealing a room inside!
Oh my goodness! It goes straight through!
Standing at the entrance was a stunning lady in a beautiful lilac-colored phoenix-patterned qipao. The qipao perfectly accentuated her hourglass figure, showcasing the true beauty of Eastern women.
The lady smiled at me. “You must be Xia Xiaolan.”
“Yes,” I replied, still in a daze.
“Please come in,” she said with a warm smile, and I cautiously stepped out of the elevator.
“I’ll go ahead,” came Xuan Yuanchen’s cold and indifferent voice from behind. The lady’s smile instantly revealed a hint of frostiness, prompting me to silently move a bit farther away. This lady was definitely not someone to be taken lightly.
“Wait downstairs,” the lady said with a seemingly pleasant expression, but there was a glint of coldness in her eyes.
Xuan Yuanchen’s face slightly darkened. He adjusted his glasses and shot me an irritated glance before addressing the lady, “Who is she? I don’t want to waste any time here.”
Raising an eyebrow, the lady hesitated for a moment and discreetly glanced at someone nearby before lowering her voice. “We’ll discuss it tonight.”
Narrowing his eyes behind his glasses, Xuan Yuanchen extended his hand to close the elevator doors and then turned to me.
The lady turned to me and gestured with a smile, “This way, please. The principal is waiting for you.”
“Alright,” I said, glancing around cautiously. They say you should always be wary of the principal when you’re at school. I wondered what the principal was like here.
In front of us appeared an exquisitely crafted white jade sliding door. The lady paused and moved the door aside, revealing a tall and elegant figure with cascading black hair loosely tied at the waist, accentuating his slender and graceful physique.
Oh my!
Is this the principal?!!
With a gentle push, I stumbled forward into the room as the white jade door slowly closed behind me. I stood there, stunned, gazing at the man standing by the intricately carved circular window, his back facing me. He wore a black silk robe that exuded a subtle sheen, preventing the color from appearing dull. Instead, it added an air of solemnity and nobility.
My heart raced. Oh, Father, I had finally encountered a man who could surpass your handsomeness!
“You must have had a challenging journey today,” his warm and soothing voice instantly melted away all my uneasiness, anxiety, fear, and fatigue.
I feel like I’m on the verge of betraying my esteemed father.
He turned around slowly, his smile radiating warmth, obscuring his features from my sight.
“Did I startle you?” The uncle’s voice resonated like a soothing baritone, reminiscent of a late-night radio host lulling you to sleep.
“N-No, I’m fine,” I stammered, gazing at his strikingly handsome face. My heart seemed to skip a beat, as if in the presence of an idol. “I-I’m pretty easygoing.”
He chuckled, a laugh that seemed to breathe life into the surroundings.
“It appears you’ve gained some understanding of this place,” he seated himself, interlacing his hands beneath his impeccably sculpted chin, his red lips curled in a gentle smile. “You bear a striking resemblance to your mother.”
In an instant, my attention shifted back to reality—my mother!
“How is your father faring?” he inquired suddenly, his expression growing slightly distant. A touch of indifference flashed in his elongated, dark eyes.
After a brief pause, I cautiously responded, “My father remains unchanged.”
“Hmph, mere mortals, always so content,” he huffed with an air of disdain, as if greatly displeased. That disdain, combined with his earlier departure, bore a striking resemblance to Xuan Yuanchen’s!
Well, regardless, my esteemed father is the most handsome. Anyone who dares to find fault with him shall face my wrath! No matter how attractive someone else may be, I won’t develop affection for them.
The fleeting infatuation I felt earlier instantly transformed into stagnant waters.
He smiled at me, and with warmth in his eyes, said, “I hope that you will diligently study here and become an exceptional individual, much like your mother.”
I regarded him with a hint of detachment and asked, “Are you the headmaster, sir?”
“Yes,” he replied, narrowing his eyes and smiling, exuding an extraordinary gentleness.
Indeed, it was due to my mother. My mother had once been a part of this esteemed institution of gods and demons. Now I finally understood why she possessed that peculiar box.
I gently caressed the pendant concealed beneath my clothing, just below my neck, and voiced my concerns, “But I am a mere mortal. How could I possibly keep pace? I feel utterly out of place here. Rather than facing eventual elimination, wouldn’t it be better to leave now?” The thought of being eliminated and enduring the resulting humiliation brought to mind the disdainful gaze of Fu Su, as if mocking a mere mortal who had come to the Divine and Demons Academy merely for amusement.
He responded with a kind smile, “Is that truly what you believe? Why not stay for a few days? You might change your mind.”
I furrowed my brow, considering his suggestion, and replied, “Very well. Goodbye, Headmaster.” With that, I turned on my heel and retraced my steps.
But as I approached the door, I already began to regret my decision.
Why was I leaving?
If I went back down there, I would still be an excavator operator!
And then I would find a boyfriend who operates excavators, fall in love, get married, have children, and my child would become a second-generation excavator operator!
Oh no! I can’t burden my child with such a fate!
I can’t pass on my own failed life to my child!
No! I refuse to let this miserable destiny come true! I don’t want my own life to continue in failure!
I need to change my fate!
I absolutely must change!!!
I will stay here. Even if I end up sweeping garbage, as long as I work hard, I can still consider myself a divine being! What does prestige even matter?! For the sake of the next generation of the Xia family, I will not let them become excavator operators. I am determined to stay here!
I furrowed my brow, clenched my fists, and completely abandoned my pride. I turned around solemnly and said, “Headmaster! I have changed my mind! I am determined to stay here and work hard!”
The charming headmaster smiled warmly and replied, “That is the right decision.”
When Xia Xiaolan decides something, no matter how many obstacles lie ahead, I will grit my teeth and overcome them! I have chosen this path, and I will see it through to the end!
“The first challenge…” the headmaster raised a finger, “…is to find a dormitory willing to accommodate you.”
“What?” Find a dormitory willing to accommodate me? But aren’t the school dormitories assigned? What does the headmaster mean by being accommodated?
While I was still confused, the beautiful sister pulled me out of the door, and in front of me was the headmaster’s enchanting smile.
As I was escorted into the elevator, the lovely sister smiled and said, “If you have any questions, you can ask Chen.”
Chen? They’re on such familiar terms. Sister, what is your relationship with that aloof prince?
Ask him? He would surely give me a disdainful look and tell me to go away!
Even though I am just a mortal, I still have my integrity! Why should I stick close to the aloof prince? Hmph, I won’t seek his help!
*Ding* The elevator stopped, and as the doors opened, I peeked outside and saw the aloof prince sitting in a nearby car, reading a book! His face clearly displayed an air of indifference, as if saying, “Don’t bother me! Those who provoke me will face death!”
The driver uncle noticed me, and I immediately waved at him. He smiled, and I leaped out of the elevator and ran. I had roughly memorized the route when I flew in, so I knew the way out.
