GTRSH Chapter 19

Taking a Taxi

He Ci had always given the impression to the outside world that he was an arrogant young master, but he was actually very “easy to talk to” in the team.

He only puts on airs in his own personal life. Once things involved other people or the team as a whole, he would restrain his personal wishes very well and never do anything unnecessary by relying on his status as a young master.

This time was no exception. Yu Xinche’s tryout was carried out according to the procedures. If a team wanted to recruit someone, they needed to vote. It would only be approved if more than half of the votes were in favor and all the players on the team were willing.

There were seven people in the coaching team, four players and a manager. Among the total 12 people, the jungler Xiao Ou abstained, and only the remaining five agreed to keep Yu Xinche and see how it goes.

This result was expected by He Ci, but his teammates didn’t quite understand. CONTROL asked the top laner on the phone:

“Why did Brother B object? You wouldn’t have voted against it, right?”

BURN’s real name was Geng Yiyi. When he first arrived at TZ, he also had shortcomings in his hero pool. It took him most of the season to master the top lane hero in the then version.

He was not angry when he heard this, and explained:

“Yeah, I’m also a hero scooper, but I was a substitute at that time, so I had more time to practice, and the team’s performance didn’t depend on me, so I didn’t have much pressure. Even if I could really be a starter, I wouldn’t dare to do it. I retired right away when my heroes were banned in the game.”

“So you won’t even give him a chance?”

“I admit that he was awesome in the first game. If he can really train Swamp to be like this in three days, I’d like to be his teammate. But I’m really worried about the current situation. If he plays badly and the laning fails, everyone will be under pressure.”

“…”

CONTROL, Kong Zhiyi, was one year older than He Ci. The first player after TZ was established was He Ci, and the second was him.

He and He Ci have a good understanding of each other, and their understanding of the game and career pursuits were consistent.

Although the two had never talked about it, He Ci knew very well that Kong Zhiyi, like himself, wanted a newcomer who could take a chance and win the championship, rather than a stable but incompatible active player.

BURN, Geng Yiyi was different. He had been in TZ for less than two years. He was cheated by his previous club in his contract. He sat on the sidelines for half a year and couldn’t even play in training games.

For him, it’s great to be able to play in the game, and it would be even more satisfying if he could make the playoffs.

The championship was too far away for him at this stage.

Without ever tasting the joy of winning a championship, his desire for the championship was not strong enough, at least not strong enough to support him to risk not making the playoffs for a rookie to grow up.

Xiao Ou was easier to guess, as he was young and simple. He hadn’t figured out the way yet, so naturally he didn’t have any opinions of his own.

If someone was unhappy no matter how he chooses, he might as well abstain.

The coaching staff was rational and sought stability, so their distrust of Yu Xinche was understandable.

When Yu Xinche played a hero with zero proficiency for the second game, He Ci had already thought of the current result.

He had been mentally preparing for the entire game and had now convinced himself that he could rationally understand their vote of opposition.

But emotionally, a suppressed anger inevitably rushed to his heart.

You could practice if you don’t know how to play a hero, but you can’t force yourself to have talent if you don’t have it.

Everyone present was a discerning person. They could all see that he had great talent, but they were unwilling to give him a chance.

“He Ci,” Xu Le called him, “Should I go and tell him the results?”

“Yeah.” He Ci also stood up and walked out the door with an expressionless face.

“Are you going too?” Xu Le followed him.

He Ci walked out the door and headed in another direction: “No, go ahead.”

Xu Le looked at He Ci’s back and sighed.

He voted in favor.

As a manager, he lacked professionalism and therefore placed more emphasis on emotions.

He Ci had always been the core of TZ’s team. Xu Le knew that he was always under a lot of pressure during games. If this support was really suitable for He Ci, then it might not be a bad idea to give it a try.

Moreover, he had seen many examples of talented young people, and in his eyes, Yu Xinche’s shortcomings were not the most difficult problems.

But……

Now that the result was already determined, there was no use for him to feel sentimental.

Xu Le walked into the room and smiled at Yu Xinche first.

“Xiao Yu, you are very capable, but the coaching staff still feels that you don’t know too many heroes, so the risk is a bit high.”

Yu Xinche opened his lips, wanting to explain, but in the end said nothing.

“I believe you can master these heroes if you have time.”

“But the pace of the league is very fast. There are training matches, live broadcasts, and competitions. When you first enter the industry, you also have to practice awareness and operation. There is not much time left to practice heroes. It may take a season or even more to practice all of these.”

Xu Le carefully thought and tried to put it more tactfully: “So…”

“It’s okay.”

Yu Xinche showed an understanding smile: “I understand. It’s okay, I know.”

“Well, actually, if you’re willing, you can consider trying out for our second team.”

Yu Xinche nodded and smiled at Xu Le: “I appreciate your kindness, but I won’t consider the second team for now. I don’t like being a backup.”

“Ah, okay.”

“Just tell He Ci for me. I’m sorry for wasting his kindness.”

”…” Xu Le’s heart sank, and these words made him feel upset.

He looked at Yu Xinche. The boy had drooping eyelids and thick black eyelashes that moved with his blinking eyes. He looked gentle and quiet.

Xu Le felt a little sorry for him and consoled, “He Ci still had high hopes for you. He felt you were capable until the very end and kept speaking for you.”

“Really?” Yu Xinche smiled.

It’s a pity that he would be disappointed.

Xu Le chatted with him for a few more sentences. Seeing that he looked friendly the whole time and did not show any major emotional fluctuations, he praised him in his heart.

Xu Le has met many players, and he could see that Yu Xinche was not only good-looking, but also had good personality which was rare.

Although he was young, he was very calm and polite. It was very comfortable to talk to him.

Xu Le couldn’t help but sigh, regretting that he failed to recruit him. With this conversation and his temperament, Yu Xinche was perfect to be their team’s spokesperson for the post-match interview.

After the pleasantries, Xu Le wanted to see him out, but he didn’t expect to see He Ci waiting at the door as soon as he left the club.

“Then you guys chat.” He was very tactful and made an excuse to leave.

He Ci picked up a drink and handed it to Yu Xinche: “Try it, it’s from the coffee shop opened by our club.”

Seeing that He Ci didn’t mention the tryout, Yu Xinche didn’t mention it either.

Yu Xinche took the drink and tasted it. His expression was not very good. His eyebrows frowned and then relaxed. He asked, “Did you put sugar in twice? It’s so sweet.”

“Really? I asked them to put more.” He Ci smiled faintly, “He’s a full-time coffee maker, so he may not have experience in making milk tea. Please understand a bit.”

Yu Xinche also smiled: “Okay. If it’s their first time, then it seems acceptable.”

After saying this, as if to prove it, he took another sip and licked his lips, as if savoring the taste: “Well, it’s really not that bad anymore.”

“Yeah.” He Ci nodded, “So it’s normal that your performance is not ideal during your first tryout.”

Yu Xinche stopped walking, the smile on his lips had not yet faded, and he looked at He Ci in a daze.

He Ci also stopped and whispered, “I’m sorry that you have wasted a lot of energy because of me during this period of time.”

“No, it’s still my own fault. You mentioned the hero pool the other day, but I didn’t pay attention.” Yu Xinche looked away and didn’t look at He Ci. “And I also wasted a lot of your time. I should be embarrassed for failing to live up to your expectations.”

The more he spoke, the softer his voice became. He Ci almost didn’t hear the last few words. He lowered his head and leaned close to hear clearly.

“That’s not the case. Although your proficiency for Swamp is not enough, I still think you performed well. You are very talented and learn things quickly.”

Yu Xinche hummed twice, but it was unclear whether he heard it or not.

“I’m not trying to comfort you. The coach and teammates all admit that you have talent, but they just want more stable players. Or, in other words, they don’t believe that you can master all those heroes quickly.”

“Yeah, I understand. If it were me, I would also feel that I am a risk,” said Yu Xinche.

As they were talking, they were almost at the entrance of the complex. Yu Xinche took out his phone and tapped a few times.

He Ci also picked up his phone and took a look.

Yu Xinche noticed that he checked his phone several times along the way, and probably thought he had something to do, so he said, “If you have something to do, go ahead. I’ll take a taxi back by myself.”

He Ci put away his phone: “Nothing, just waiting for a message. I’ll take you there.”

“No need, I got a taxi.”

He Ci obviously didn’t believe it and stared at him with his head tilted, just like that day.

“Really.” Yu Xinche showed him the phone screen, “I really got it this time.”

He Ci raised his eyebrows, and after a while he spoke: “Then I’ll wait with you for a while.”

The two waited in silence for two minutes, but the taxi didn’t come.

Yu Xinche opened the app to see where the driver was, but the interface alerted that the driver had cancelled and they were reassigning the order.

Yu Xinche looked at the taxi-hailing interface, then looked at He Ci.

Just now when he said he got a taxi, He Ci’s expression was very subtle.

Yu Xinche couldn’t describe his expression, but at that moment he had an illusion that He Ci seemed to want him to cancel the booking.

He hesitated for a moment and handed the screen to He Ci:

“The driver cancelled the order. How about you give me a ride?”
