HH Chapter 85

Prisoner's Dilemma

“Still not sure.” Pei Qinghuai chimed in from the side, “Tang Jiale’s abnormal behavior definitely indicates there’s a problem, but for now, we still need to focus most of our efforts on the disappearance cases.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the phone in the center of the table rang urgently. Chen Xiaonuan had just taken a bite of her bread but quickly answered the call. After listening to the contents, her expression changed.

Chen Xiaonuan hung up the phone and, seeing everyone’s eyes on her, slowly opened her mouth, “The fifth disappearance case has come in.”

Everyone’s heart skipped a beat, and their eyes began to show a trace of anxiety. The current series of disappearances had left them without a single clue. From the first disappearance of Liang Siyu to Li Yixin, there was no pattern to follow. Surveillance videos were still being sifted through, and many team members had been exhausted in the process.

Half an hour later, a group of young people with dyed hair and heavy makeup walked in. They were the reporters of the fifth disappearance case. Sitting in the waiting room, they looked a bit uneasy, but they were all young people who had just entered society, resembling street thugs.

Cheng Ye and Pei Qinghuai sat across from them. Cheng Ye spoke first, “Who wants to describe what happened?”

The young people looked at each other, and finally, a girl was pushed forward. She bit her lip, seemingly reluctant to look at the police. After hesitating for a minute, she slowly opened her mouth, “Her name is Sun Xiaoyu, she’s our leader. She went missing on July 10th.” She showed her phone to Cheng Ye and Pei Qinghuai, “This is her photo.”

Zhang Yibao, who was recording information on the side, took a look at the photo. Cheng Ye asked, “If she went missing on July 10th, why did you wait until now to report it?”

The girl looked at Cheng Ye, “Our leader often goes out by herself and sometimes doesn’t return for ten days or half a month. We’re used to it.” She continued, “But this time was different. We called her several times, but at first, someone hung up on us, and later, we couldn’t reach her at all.”

Her voice grew quieter, “We thought she was mad at us, so we didn’t worry. But when she didn’t come back after a long time, we realized something was wrong and reported it.”

Cheng Ye asked, “What exactly happened that night?”

From their recollection, on the night of July 10th, they had gone to a bar called Club Eight to drink. Near the end of the night, Sun Xiaoyu said she was stepping out, but they never saw her again.

“How were Sun Xiaoyu’s relationships? Did anything unusual happen? Did anyone new get close to her recently?” Pei Qinghuai asked.

“Well, maybe.” One of them muttered, then they discussed quietly among themselves before answering Pei Qinghuai, “She mentioned she had a boyfriend, but we never met him and don’t know if it’s true.”

Zhang Yibao finished recording the information and asked with a smile, “Could we have Sun Xiaoyu’s address?”

The girl nodded, “Sure.”

Despite their rough appearance, the group was unexpectedly polite. After gathering enough information, they thanked the officers and left.

Fang Yuan leaned back in his chair, “What do you think they’re doing, playing gang leaders?”

Zhang Yibao, hugging his laptop, returned to his seat and smiled, “You got it wrong. Even the worst among them has a family business. From what they said, Sun Xiaoyu is their leader, and she’s at a top-tier university.”
