Jiang Fei was about to speak, but Fang Yuan interrupted him first. “Cheating?” Fang Yuan asked Qin Nan a question instead.
Qin Nan was taken aback, his eyebrows furrowing slightly behind his glasses. Fang Yuan continued, “I didn’t expect you to confess so readily. It seems you know exactly what we can find out about you.”
Qin Nan’s lips twitched uncomfortably, and he leaned back in his chair. He said, “My girlfriend is great, but she’s a bit possessive, so I thought she might be behind this. This has happened many times before…”
“Alright, let’s not talk about that,” Fang Yuan shifted the topic. “Do you know that Sun Xiaoyu is missing?”
Qin Nan’s eyes showed a flicker of surprise before he frowned and muttered to himself, “So that’s why she hasn’t been answering my calls.”
He smiled and looked up. “I didn’t know about that.”
Fang Yuan asked, “Where were you on the night of July 10th?”
Qin Nan smiled again. “I was with my girlfriend. We went to a café, and there was an art exhibition that night, so we attended that as well.”
…
“He seems to have no issues,” Chen Xiaonuan said, puzzled.
Pei Qinghuai stared intently at Qin Nan, as if trying to make eye contact through the surveillance feed. He then lowered his gaze and said, “No issues is the biggest issue. Didn’t you notice how quickly he answered? It’s like he rehearsed his answers.”
Straightening up, he added, “We need to visit Tang Jiale’s house again.”
Pei Qinghuai left the room, followed closely by Cheng Ye. In the car, Pei Qinghuai was silent until they arrived at Tang Jiale’s neighborhood. As they got out of the car, Pei Qinghuai asked Cheng Ye, “Do you think Tang Jiale loves Qin Nan or hates him?”
Cheng Ye was caught off guard by the question and didn’t respond immediately. Pei Qinghuai just chuckled lightly and looked up at the lit living room, feeling he might have found a new answer.
They knocked on Tang Jiale’s door again. After a long wait, she finally opened the door, looking a bit desolate. She forced a smile and invited them in.
Pei Qinghuai naturally asked, “Did someone visit you today?”
Tang Jiale looked startled and glanced at the uncleaned dishes in the kitchen before nodding. Pei Qinghuai sat on the edge of the sofa without saying anything more. Tang Jiale clutched her phone, smiling as she asked, “Is there something you need this late?”
Pei Qinghuai smiled back, “Nothing much. I just wanted to hear your thoughts about Qin Nan.”
At the mention of Qin Nan’s name, Tang Jiale unconsciously licked her dry lips. “What’s wrong with my boyfriend?”
“We found he is connected to a missing person’s case,” Pei Qinghuai continued. “We just want to understand a bit more about him.”
Tang Jiale looked down, her expression turning more sorrowful. “He’s really nice, actually. Good-looking, too. He’s patient when helping me with my studies and speaks gently. There’s nothing odd about him.”
Pei Qinghuai tapped his knee lightly with his fingers and asked, “I think you misunderstood. I want to know about Qin Nan’s relationships and recent activities, not how he treats you.”
Tang Jiale seemed to have a moment of realization and nodded. “Sorry, I didn’t get that at first.”
