HD Chapter 30

Heartbeat Document

Xu Zhi was discharged from the hospital more than half a month later.

Ji Peiqing wrote on Xu Zhi’s medical records: “The patient was hospitalized for 2 weeks, and symptoms such as delusions, taciturnity, and tension disappeared. The patient demonstrated a certain level of reality testing and critical ability and stable emotions. After a total of 6 weeks in the hospital, the patient showed significant improvement and was discharged.”

The day Xu Zhi was discharged from the hospital happened to be the last day of August, Xu Zhi’s 26th birthday.

Before the discharge procedures were completed, Zhou Mu took Xu Zhi for a walk in the yard.

There is not so much sunshine in the afternoon. It rained last night, so the temperature is still comfortable.

Zhou Mu carried a cake box and took Xu Zhi to sit down next to the chair where they often sat.

Zhou Mu said, “Happy birthday.”

Xu Zhi took the cake and put it on his lap, knowingly asked, “Is it blueberry?”

“It’s blueberry,” Zhou Mu nodded, “6 inches.”

“One piece is enough,” Xu Zhi complained half-seriously, “Why buy so much?”

“I’ll eat it if you can’t finish it.” Zhou Mu took the cake from his hand and started to open it. “As soon as I open it, you pounce on it and eat it. Do you hear me?”

Xu Zhi nodded seriously, “I hear you.”

This can be considered a reserved item for their birthdays. In order to compensate for the regret of poor little Xu Zhi never having eaten cake before, Zhou Mu always insists on opening the cake under the sun every time.

And asked Xu Zhi to eat the cake before it melted.

“Are you ready?” Zhou Mu put his hand on the box, and the box would open as soon as he let go.

“Ready.” Xu Zhi nodded nervously, ready to go.

“That means I’m opening it now?” Zhou Mu said, opening the cake box.

Xu Zhi immediately approached and was obviously stunned after seeing what was in the box.

The six-inch cake was decorated with a circle of good-looking blueberries around the edge, and a ring was placed in the middle.

The style of the ring is very simple, a silver ring, and it looks like Xu Zhi’s size.

Xu Zhi paused, then quickly reached out to pick up the ring and put it on his hand, which was just right.

He got some cream on his hands and wiped it off with a piece of paper, feeling a bit awkward.

“How could anyone propose in a mental hospital?” Xu Zhi muttered in a low voice, nervously rubbing the dark lines on the ring.

“Yes.” Zhou Mu followed his words and asked him, “Do you agree or not?”

It was the hospital’s afternoon activity time, and the girl named Xiao Cheng was squatting in front of the Chinese tree sapling that had grown to the height of an adult’s calf, talking to herself.

The patient who saw people as animals laughed loudly, pointed at an old lady, and shouted, “A frog!”

A patient, who lives on the same floor as Xu Zhi and suffers from severe schizophrenia, is practicing pig dissection techniques on a couch, accompanied by medical staff.

Such things happen to Xu Zhi and Zhou Mu every day. Occasionally, the patients’ lines will change, but most of the time they are completely repeated.

They and Xu Zhi are the same kind of people.

Staring at the ring on his hand, he hesitated to take it off. Eventually, unable to hold back his tears, his eyes turned red.

Xu Zhi said, “Zhou Mu, I may never get better.”

“I know,” Zhou Mu said, raising his hand to wipe away Xu Zhi’s tears that slid down his chin, “I’ve always known it.”

Xu Zhi sniffed, and tears kept falling, “I may forget who you are again tomorrow morning.”

Zhou Mu stood up and walked to Xu Zhi. He bent down and wiped the tears from Xu Zhi’s face and said to him, “It’s okay, Xu Zhi.”

Xu Zhi turned his head and didn’t look at him, disagreeing with his statement, “It’s not okay.”

“You can forget about me, or you can assign any identity to me,” Zhou Mu said, “I can play any role you want.”

Zhou Mu said, “Because I am Xu Zhi’s Zhou Mu, making Xu Zhi fall in love with me is my mission every time.”

Zhou Mu is a successful task-accomplisher. His missions are either challenging or easy, but this time with Xu Zhi, he once again fell in love without any exceptions.

Xu Zhi wiped his tears on Zhou Mu’s collar and told him, “The cake has melted.”

He spoke while taking a bite of the blueberry cake around the edges. When he raised his head again, there was some cream smeared on his nose and face.

Xu Zhi’s skin was very white, and when the cream was rubbed on his face, it was a little dazzling when it was illuminated by the light from between the shadows of the trees.

Zhou Mu glanced at him a few times, put his arms around Xu Zhi’s waist, and leaned in to kiss Xu Zhi.

There was still a very sweet taste of cake on Xu Zhi’s lips. Zhou Mu kissed him from the corner of his lips, past the slightly raised lips, and finally sucked the tip of his tongue.

“One yuan.” Zhou Mu let go of Xu Zhi slightly and moved closer before Xu Zhi could react.

They continued to kiss as if no one was watching, and in the end, the cake melted into the box.

After Zhou Mu let go of Xu Zhi, he gently squeezed his waist and asked him, “So do you agree or not?”

Xu Zhi stared at the melted and unrecognizable cake, lost in thought. The blueberry cake that he hadn’t tasted for many years, ever since he got together with Zhou Mu, had never been missed once.

The happy birthday he had been looking forward to for a long time came as scheduled every year.

For a long time, he was never needed by anyone because of a mental illness that might not be cured in his lifetime.

But Zhou Mu had great courage and said to Xu Zhi, “Xu Zhi, I can’t live without you.”

Xu Zhi couldn’t push Zhou Mu away like this.

So Xu Zhi said, “I agree.”

When Xu Zhi was discharged from the hospital, he refused to be accompanied by Ji Peiqing and Wen Shuyao. The drive between the two cities was long. He sat in the co-pilot’s seat and fell asleep halfway.

It was almost one o’clock in the morning when they arrived at the residential community. Zhou Mu carried Xu Zhi upstairs, and he was still sleepy.

Because he had been working on the go recently, Zhou Mu carried his laptop with him.

He opened the computer, found the Doc7 folder, and updated it.

Xu Zhi, lazily listening to the sound of his typing, asked, “Are you still keeping medical records for Young Master Xu?”

Zhou Mu responded with a mischievous tone, “I made Xu Zhi promise not to forget me next time, and I documented it.”

Xu Zhi rolled his eyes and ignored him, lazily lying on the bed without moving.

After Zhou Mu made a record, he went to the bathroom. Xu Zhi thought that every time his condition relapsed, Zhou Mu would make a record, but because he didn’t want to face it, he never read it once.

So he slowly got up and leaned over to take a look with some curiosity.

After Xu Zhi got together with Zhou Mu, his illness relapsed 7 times, but there were 8 documents in the folder.

Xu Zhi placed the mouse over the document that was not related to his medical records. It showed that the document was created after the establishment of the romantic relationship between Zhou Mu and Xu Zhi, during the first episode of Xu Zhi’s illness when he was 19 years old.

Xu Zhi opened the document, and Zhou Mu had written:

“There are many people in this world with peculiar thoughts, like Xu Zhi, and there are also people with narrow perspectives and a lack of imagination, like Zhou Mu.

I may never be able to understand the world beyond inherent perception, and perhaps I will never be curious about things beyond empirical evidence.

But if the other person is Xu Zhi, it doesn’t matter.

So let’s assume that it’s not Xu Zhi who is peculiar, but this world.

Xu Zhi should be like this.”

The world is indeed very big, and there are many people like Xu Zhi who look at problems from another perspective, and there are also many people who are even more outrageous than Xu Zhi.

The thoughts of people like Xu Zhi may not be clear to so-called normal people in their lifetime.

But Zhou Mu regards every outrageous idea of Xu Zhi as a fact that exists in a world that he cannot understand, or simply thinks that this world is inherently weird.

So in this weird world, no matter what the situation is, it doesn’t stop Zhou Mu from loving Xu Zhi very much.

He was clumsy and hard-working, accompanying Xu Zhi in absurd dramas again and again and then waiting patiently for Xu Zhi to fall in love with him.

Xu Zhi blinked, feeling sore from his heart to his fingertips.

He moved the cursor to the upper left corner of the document and clicked to close it. He stood up and walked towards the bathroom, “Senior, would you mind taking a shower together!”

The document returned to its white, dog-eared shape and retracted into the folder.

The display name is: Heartbeat Document.

The sound of water in the bathroom stopped for a moment. Xu Zhi opened the door and went in. He said to Zhou Mu, who was looking at him, “Senior, I love you so much.”

Then the sound of water continued to echo. Zhou Mu laughed while rinsing Xu Zhi’s hair and asked him what he was doing. Xu Zhi closed his eyes and said many times, like Zhou Mu had done: “I love you.”

Perhaps Xu Zhi is a born storyteller, and his mission is to bring Zhou Mu one unique plot after another in the long days to come.

Zhou Mu’s task is to take over the unknown script, play each role well, and keep records.

Their story will be very rich, composed of unpredictable plots, and then connected into a very long life about Zhou Mu and Xu Zhi.
