HWMK Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Translator: Lynn

Li Weidu’s community was ensconced amidst lakes and mountains, with a plethora of standalone villas dotting the landscape. The scenery along the route was so captivating that it could stoke envy, with lush greenery so abundant that even little brown squirrels merrily hopped about the cypress branches.

Darn it, it seemed that all the beauty in the world was hoarded by lunatics and goblins.

Zhu Ling’s heart felt as vast as the sky. As the car slowly halted in front of Li Weidu’s residence, he had actually fallen asleep in the passenger seat, deep in slumber, and remained oblivious to his surroundings.

In a fit of pique, the young beauty stormed into the house, slamming the door with a resounding thud.

“Mr. Li, I’m heading home now. You and your beloved Ye Yin…enjoy your time together, alright?”

In truth, it made little difference whether they enjoyed their time or not; what truly mattered was that they refrained from bothering him again.

Ji Kai earnestly wished to depart this place, where green mountains and waters would never cross his path once more.

Li Weidu nodded. Drooping his gaze, he turned to creak open the white garden gate. Yet, Ji Kai suddenly halted him.

“Wait, Boss Li, permit me to pose one final candid query. Is Ye Yin…really that exceptional? What’s so remarkable about him? Why are you all so protective of him?”

Zhu Ling had harbored a first love, Bai Yueguang, the White Moonlight that he couldn’t forget.

Ji Kai had been aware of this prior to their marriage.

Back then, he hadn’t cared much. He simply sensed that whenever Zhu Ling mentioned that individual, his youthful indignation and lingering grievances made him appear endearing and vulnerable.

Within Zhu Ling’s personal space, photos of Ye Yin had always been preserved.

Although there were merely three photographs—a snapshot of an ID card from a graduation handbook, a blurry group graduation picture where faces were scarcely discernible, and a faint profile shot in the background. Yet, Zhu Ling clung to these images year after year, reluctant to delete them.

Ji Kai had indulged him in this.

After all, everyone has a past—although Ji Kai didn’t possess a first love akin to Bai Yueguang, he did have close friends who did.

He’d heard various rhapsodies about their first loves from these friends, and he could somewhat comprehend Zhu Ling’s nostalgia for his youthful days.

However, when Ye Yin also entered the entertainment industry, emerging as a fair-skinned and charming little star, and Zhu Ling gazed at the young beauty’s sugar-free biscuit commercial in a trance, Ji Kai wasn’t quite as generous.

It would be disingenuous to claim that he hadn’t felt a pang of jealousy or rolled his eyes vehemently.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have struggled to recognize the real Ye Yin the first time he encountered him upon opening the door.

“You don’t understand Xiao Yin. He is actually very kind and simple,” Li Weidu said this with a gentle tone.

Ji Kai was left bewildered, entering a state of Lagrangian shock and an overwhelming urge to wreak havoc.

Even though he knew that the little white gate, the small white fence in front, and the little sunflower in the rear all belonged to someone else’s property, he still had an inexplicable desire to rush up and trample on them.

Really…?

At best, Ye Yin was merely “good-looking,” right?

Who with a supposedly kind heart would cry and threaten someone else’s husband, saying, “If you don’t come, I’ll jump off the building”? This was the most two-faced person he had ever encountered, with no face to do such a thing!

For a brief moment, Ji Kai felt utterly unjust towards the world.

Wasn’t he genuinely kind and harmless? His character was straightforward! Yet, unfortunately, he had a fierce and intimidating countenance, which meant no one cared about him. No one asked how he was or cared whether he was okay.

Frustrated and feeling the world’s deep malice, Li Weidu added another statement.

“Moreover, when we were together, I promised him that I would treat him well for the rest of my life.”

…Hehe, hehe.

The typical infatuated and domineering CEO personality – “In this world, I will pamper and cherish only you, and everyone else is insignificant to me.” Hehehe, look at the sky, some people are really something else; jealousy makes me look terrible.

However, when Ji Kai finally raised his head to gaze at Li Weidu’s face, he was stunned.

With a “poof,” he burst into shameless laughter.

…Because he had finally realized that this was not a heartwarming love story.

Hahaha, hahaha.

Absolutely! Right! No! Yes! Good!?

The noonday sun cast its warm rays upon Li Weidu’s face, rendering his three-dimensional features nearly translucent, accentuating his handsomeness and sternness. However, Ji Kai distinctly saw a “peculiar glint” in those narrow, beautiful eyes beneath the single eyelid.

Difficult to describe.

In any case, it wasn’t the radiance that normally sparkled in the eyes of “ordinary people.”

It easily evoked associations with a series of thrillers such as “A Clockwork Orange,” “Orphan,” “Chainsaw,” “Night at the Wax Museum,” and so on.

Combined with Ye Yin’s previous remark, “One day, he’ll kill me”… Hehe.

Suddenly, Ji Kai felt a sense of balance in his heart.

Ye Yin was Zhu Ling’s unforgettable white moonlight. He was petite, with a slender waist and fair skin.

The real boyfriend was both handsome and wealthy, and he was completely devoted to Ye Yin.

This typical Mary Sue character, who was small and weak, and was adored by everyone. Ji Kai even started to wonder if this guy was the white lotus character from a novel who had crossed over from the third dimension to harm all living beings.

Hahahaha, as it turned out, the goblin had to deal with a psycho!

So what if you had money? So what if you were handsome? So what if you were nice to him? Sharing a bed with such a person in the middle of the night was terrifying! Imagining how heart-wrenching it must be for that little beauty to face the perverted, endlessly caring “I’ll be good to you forever” gaze when he went home every day, Ji Kai felt that he could now go to sleep with a smile on his face.

“What are you laughing at?” Li Weidu’s expression darkened.

Behind him, sunlight filtered into the small garden, causing the green leaves to quiver.

“Oh, me? I… Haha, I was laughing at Mr. Li, you look fantastic.”

“Standing here in front of these sunflowers in your yard… well, you look incredibly vibrant.”

“It’s true! You look great! Mr. Li, you’re not just handsome; you’re outstanding. I bet you’d outshine Zhu Ling in a TV series!” The other man slowly turned his face, gazed at the golden sunflowers basking in the sun with an odd expression, and unconsciously pursed his thin lips.

His eyes, resembling black glass beads, shimmered briefly, then swiftly furrowed, and he lowered his gaze. A mismatched blush adorned his once cold and somewhat irritable cheeks.

What was going on here?

Could it be that this was the same Li Weidu, the perverted, stalking, and eccentric local tycoon who appeared so aloof and had a poker face?

Wasn’t he the guy who’d been attended to all night but never showed an ounce of gratitude, instead choosing to continue with his biting sarcasm?

Could it be that beneath that cold, unapproachable exterior, there was a softer, more endearing side to him?

“Wait a second!”

“Huh?” Ji Kai toyed with the car key pendant with his fingers, raised an eyebrow, and turned his head.

“You haven’t had lunch yet?”

The CEO stood on the doorstep with an awkward expression on his face. “You’ve gone through all this trouble to drive us back… Would you like to come in and have something to eat before you leave? I can’t thank you enough…”

“There’s sukiyaki from yesterday in the refrigerator.”

Sukiyaki?
