HWMK Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Translator: Lynn

The hot bath was incredibly relaxing.

Ji Kai hummed a tune, thoroughly satisfied with his wash. Extending his hand, he realized… he’d forgotten to bring in the newly bought pajamas.

“Mr. Li, I’m sorry, could you assist me…”

“No, not a chance.”

“…I’m just asking for some clothes, why the refusal?”

“I don’t help people change.”

You’ve got to be kidding.

Mr. Li was extremely cautious when he brought in the pajamas.

A hand swiftly darted from the slightly ajar door, delivering the clothes and retreating, as if fearing Ji Kai might suddenly open the bathroom door and pull him in.

Huh? Ji Kai arched an eyebrow, finding the chaste warrior’s reaction rather amusing.

What can be said about these pajamas… They weren’t exactly conventional. There was a belt tied around the waist, revealing thighs when walking, which was quite provocative.

But what could he do? This was the only type of men’s pajamas available, so there was no choice there.

Ji Kai pushed the door open and stepped out. Passing by the mirror in the hallway, he appreciatively admired his alluring figure. Li Weidu made an impatient “tsk” sound in his ear.

For heaven’s sake, you’re such a buzzkill!

Annoyed, he raised his eyes, but the wealthy man wasn’t looking at him. He was holding a hairdryer plugged into the wall, frowning in displeasure.

‘Oh, come on.’

‘You finished washing twenty minutes ago!’

‘You’ve been fussing with the hairdryer since you finished washing, and your hair is still wet now that I’ve gone in and out?’

“What’s the matter? Can’t figure it out?”

“This hair dryer is useless!” Li Wei was even more furious. “What a lousy establishment! I’ll never stay here again!”

First of all, if it’s genuinely broken, you could call the front desk to have it replaced. Why waste so much time just grumbling about it?

Second…

Ji Kai picked up the hairdryer and pressed the button; there was no airflow. However, the socket displayed on the wall was the only emergency power source in the room, so technically, it shouldn’t be out of power.

Ah!

After some trial and error, the hairdryer finally hummed to life – no wonder it always felt like the handle was loose and peculiar. It turns out that if you grip it tightly, you get airflow!

This design was unlike the standard hairdryer, so it’s no wonder the perplexed CEO couldn’t figure it out.

Humming, humming, warm air blew out.

“Mr. Li, here you go, it’s working.”

Hum… It instantly died in Li Weidu’s hands.

“Mr. Li, you have to hold it here.”

Humming, humming…

“Squeeze it! Of course, it will switch off as soon as you release it!”

“How can you blow it if you squeeze it?”

“Why can’t you blow it if you squeeze it? Just keep it pressed while using it normally!”

By the way, many public hair dryers in university bathrooms are designed like this to prevent waste, right?

“How do you squeeze and use it normally at the same time? Should I perform some juggling?”

Uh, Mr. Li, you… Did you attend some upscale St. Alliston University that only used 24K gold hair dryers?

“Stay put.”

“What, what are you doing?”

What can he do?

Seeing the wealthy man’s body stiffen, with a look of great defensiveness and suspicion on his face, Ji Kai couldn’t fathom – how insufferable did his character appear to Mr. Li?

A bitter, sallow-faced woman.

A humanoid teddy with a sperm-like brain and an insatiable appetite?

A song slowly played in his mind, with cheerful lyrics “Lifting your head…”. Truly, if one could delve into Li Weidu’s enigmatic brain, they would find an incredibly eccentric world inside.

Too lazy to explain, he pushed Li Weidu unceremoniously to sit upright and started the hairdryer.

The coarse fingertips swiftly and brusquely brushed through the slightly longer hair.

Li Weidu stiffened, bowing his head sternly, feeling the warm breeze against the nape of his neck. Suddenly, a mysterious shiver shot through him as it brushed against an unidentified spot, sending a peculiar sensation down his scalp and electrifying his nerves.

His entire body jolted.

The warm gust caressed his face while his fingertips grazed and teased his scalp, leaving him feeling breathless with a ringing in his ears.

His thoughts started to blur, and the things in front of him turned hazy. A humiliating sound akin to a suppressed moan slipped out through gritted teeth. Thankfully, the noise of the hair dryer concealed it all.

Li Weidu clenched his teeth, holding his breath and scowling in repulsion, steadfastly resisting this despicable allure from deep within.

However, alas, a pair of honey-colored thighs unexpectedly invaded his view.

Ji Kai had moved around to the front and, absentmindedly, was helping blow-dry his bangs. As a consequence, all he could see were those slender, sturdy, impeccably shaped legs swaying before him.

It became hard to breathe…

He glared upwards in frustration. Just as he tore his gaze away from those legs, he, unfortunately, locked eyes with the well-formed pectoral muscles subtly outlined in his pajamas.

Li Weidu, the CEO of a gaming company, found himself resembling a woeful NPC villain, half of his health lost after a fall from a cliff. He was then pummeled by mobs at the cliff’s base. When his health bar turned red, a rushing BOSS knocked him out with a single blow.

As the hair dryer’s sound faded, Li Weidu felt as delicate as gossamer.

“…You, sit over there, on the opposite side.”

“Huh?”

Ji Kai, perplexed, sat on the bed.

“Legs! Keep them together!”

“…”

Damn it! Was this deliberate?

In the car, their hands wandered over his back, touching him at random. They even asked him to change into pajamas while showering! And now…

So, was this a lonely, neglected, mature, married man seeking solace outside?

Or an attempt to seduce him for revenge against Zhu Ling?

Mr. Li’s thoughts were a menagerie. Ji Kai, holding the still-warm hair dryer, wondered what was going on in the wealthy man’s mind and why his expression seemed to be painful.

Indescribable. In any case, the various expressions, the hesitation to speak, and the shifting countenance, now devoid of composure, exceeded what could be described as a gentle “bewildered.”

But… glancing at himself, he saw his posture was indeed inelegant. Half of his chest was exposed, and even his thighs were on display.

He hurriedly adjusted his clothes, offering an apologetic smile.

The room’s dim and subdued lighting dazzled Li Weidu, nearly bringing tears to his eyes.

It’s just… embarrassing.

Li Weidu’s refined upbringing and manners had always guided his choice of words and maintained a civilized demeanor. However, in this moment, those four words were more than fitting.

Honestly, the Zhu Ling family, though their clothing screams “call the police,” isn’t too bad in appearance.

The foundation is decent. With a bit of care…

Even Zhu Ling! Why can’t he see it?

Forget it, some people are like that. They possess good things but fail to recognize it.

Whatever.

…Time for sleep! Better hit the bed!

Lying in bed, the heated breath felt uncomfortably hot against the silk pillowcase.

This is ridiculous.

All that’s on my mind is legs, legs, legs!

As the company president, Li Weidu has been propositioned by many over the years. After all, the game “Prosperity” produced by their company has always been a popular reality show. Numerous beauties from the entertainment industry are eager to flaunt their good-looking legs. He’s encountered all sorts of attention.

He always maintained a composed demeanor.

He even got so irate that a few individuals, unable to win him over, spread rumors that he might be impotent.

So, what just happened? !

It was just a thigh, right? Or someone else’s legs, from a married person no less. What’s there to see! Time to sleep!

The house was enveloped in darkness as the heavy rain continued outside, casting an ominous veil. Just as Ji Kai was preparing to retire for the night, his phone suddenly lit up, the ringtone playing a popular song by Zhu Ling.

Li Weidu shifted in bed, a faint trace of displeasure in the air.

Holding the quilt, Ji Kai sat up and glanced at the screen, his lips slowly curving with evident affection. The spots of light from the screen danced into his slightly narrowed eyes, outlining his refined profile.

“Brother Kai.”

Zhu Ling’s voice was always distinct, whether in song or speech.

“Yeah, done with work? It’s quite early today, isn’t it?”

Ji Kai’s voice gently resonated through the empty room.

It was deep, tinged with a soft haziness, touching the listener’s skin through the air like an electric current, accompanied by a tingling numbness that sent shivers down one’s spine.

Not the same!

This was entirely different from the voice Li Weidu had heard all day!

He, he, he… when faced with Zhu Ling, Ji Kai’s voice became so husky and tender! It was as if there was a little baby at the other end of the phone craving comfort. It exuded warmth, care, and endearment!

Ugh… get out!

Who wants to listen to you two being lovey-dovey? Annoying!

Fortunately, Ji Kai knew not to disturb Li Weidu. He picked up his mobile, threw off the quilt, and got out of bed, slipping into his shoes as he headed towards the door.

“Brother Kai, I miss you.”

One sentence, tinged with the chill of a solitary night, was incredibly sincere. The actor on the other end was growing increasingly adept at his role.

Ji Kai smiled softly and, at the same time, opened the door and stepped out.

For a few seconds, the sound from the phone was muffled by the wall. The door lock clicked, and Ji Kai, freezing slightly, returned indoors.

A mobile soaked in water still had a speakerphone effect. Ji Kai made an apologetic gesture to Li Weidu.

“Brother Kai, I’m not lying, I really miss you.” Zhu Ling’s deep, magnetic voice was crisp, carrying an inexplicable hint of sadness.

“Yeah, I know. I know.”

“You don’t even miss me!” There was a sudden tinge of grievance from the person on the phone.

Ji Kai was puzzled.

“If you miss me, if you truly miss me, you wouldn’t say ‘I know,’ you would say ‘I miss you too’!”

“Uh,” Ji Kai quickly coaxed. “Think about it, of course I miss you too.”

“You only mentioned it after I said something about it! It doesn’t sound sincere at all!”

“…”

Li Weidu beside him felt like he was going insane. He hastily covered his ears with the quilt, unable to bear Zhu Ling’s coquettish and unreasonable behavior. If there was anything worse in the world than this, he couldn’t fathom it!

Yet, what came next surpassed his limits.

There was a suppressed cry from the other end of the phone, out of nowhere! Zhu Ling, usually proud and confident, seemed wronged, making one’s skin crawl with discomfort.

“Brother Kai, you don’t even think of me; you don’t even care about me! You don’t even know… I’m lying here alone in my room, feeling so lonely—so terribly lonely! I’ve been waiting for your call, but you never called me!”

“But didn’t you say you were busy with the show and asked me not to disturb you, and when you’re free, I just need to wait for your call?” Ji Kai, perhaps witnessing Zhu Ling like this for the first time, sounded helpless, “Zhu Ling, what’s going on? Did something happen at work? Were you treated unfairly? Aren’t you filming at the film and television base?”

“Well, I was filming. But I miss you! I miss you, I really do. Is that so wrong!”

Ji Kai couldn’t help but sigh, “Alright. Be patient; work will be done by the weekend, right? Just endure a little longer, and I’ll come to pick you up as soon as work is done, okay?”

On the other end, Zhu Ling choked with sobs. Ji Kai could almost envision Zhu Ling nodding desperately.

“Brother Kai, I really want to see you.”

“…I know.”

“If the rain wasn’t so heavy, I would’ve gone home straight. I don’t want to shoot anymore! I just want to be with you, Xiaoyan, and the three of us… together.”

Ji Kai hurried to the window and lifted a corner of the curtain. The rain was relentless outside, showing no signs of stopping.

“Zhu Ling, I’m fine here. Don’t rush to hang up. Tell me what happened? Did something upset you? Talk to me, I’ll stay with you. Don’t keep it inside, okay?”

“Brother Kai,” the voice on the other side spoke calmly, “I just had a bad dream.”

“Bad dreams are just dreams, don’t be scared.”

There was silence on the other end of the phone. After a while, the voice cautiously probed.

“Brother Kai, do you still remember that day? It was… our first New Year celebration after we got married when we went to visit my mother.”

Ji Kai was stunned.

In the dark night, his heart suddenly constricted.

Remember, Ji Kai is a responsible, green-flag adult. He won’t cheat due to heartbreak to get even with his partner. I swear, everyone else in this story is a child compared to him. We’ll get a clean break soon.
