The Death Room is No More

Chapter 10: The Death Room is No More

The next day, Houzuki went to Tsukinashi Town General Hospital to visit Otoya as usual.

Yuiru ate all the ghosts in the basement.

The sound of the scalpel falling from the morgue was no longer heard, and the shadows clinging to the walls of the morgue were no longer visible. It was probably safe to look around the basement now.

Houzuki picked up the paper bag with “Get Well Soon” written on it,

“I chose orange today, do you think it’s okay?”

“It should be fine, I’ve never heard of that guy having any allergies.”

The silver-haired, red-eyed high school boy, Yuiru Enen, swimming backstroke right next to Houzuki, yawns boredly.

“You’re also too straightlaced, to think you’d visit him diligently even though he’s not your homeroom teacher.”

“I’ve been under his care, so of course.”

“The orange looks delicious.”

“Yes, yes, I’ll peel some later and offer it in front of your grave.”

“Don’t call it a grave.”

Ignoring Yuiru, who was pouting his lips in dissatisfaction, Houzuki headed for the hospital room where Otoya was being treated.

On the way there, she passed a semi-transparent woman. With blood coming from her head and her right arm bent in an unexpected direction, it was clear that the woman was not alive.

Ignoring the woman who was looking blankly at Houzuki, she passed right next to her. Just then Yuiru grabbed the semi-transparent woman by the scruff of the neck and began munching on her from the head down as if she were a snack. It was a bit gross.

Then, from somewhere she heard a “Hey.” Thinking it was a ghost, she just moved her eyes to  look towards her, only to see a familiar nurse waving at her.

“Oh, you’re from yesterday.”

“Thank you.”

While smiling slightly, the young nurse says,

“I tried going to the basement floor after that, but there was nothing. I couldn’t hear anything form the morgue either.”

“I’m glad to hear that.”

Houzuki also blushed at the young nurse,

“I’m glad I was able to help you, even if just a little.”

“You’re the hospital’s savior. I bet you could go on and call yourself a medium and charge a lot of money.”

“Ahaha, I think it’ll just be for a short period of time. I may not be able to keep doing this long term.”

That’s right, her time with Yuiru will surely be short. If he can eat whatever ghost comes out of the old school building, he will probably wash his hands off of her.

It will also only be a matter of time before he leaves Houzuki’s side and finds peace. –But before that, can he even enter Nirvana?

“I see…” the young nurse said a little sadly,

“Well, if another ghost incident occurs, can I come and consult with you?”

“Hospitals have a lot of ghosts, after all. If there are other problems, I will solve them as best I can.”

“What?” (n)

“What?” (h)

It seems the young nurse didn’t think the hospital to be teeming with ghosts. Her face turns pale and she froze.

“……Is that true?”

“They don’t cause any harm but, well……”

“…………I don’t mind since I can’t see them, but how does it feel to see them?”

“I think it’s better not to see them so I suggest that you don’t ask.”

Houzuki said with a serious expression, and the young nurse nodded, “I understand,” her face still pale.

It’s better that only certain people can see a view like this. It’s the same as what Yuiru always says, “Those who are alive should live long lives.” If you don’t need to see it, it’s better not to see it.

After saying goodbye to the young nurse, Houzuki headed to Otoya’s hospital room.

“Houzuki.”

“What?”

“Do you prefer not to see ghosts?”

Yuiru, who was flapping his feet next to him, asked, and Houzuki nodded, “Yes.”

“But I think I’m glad that I can see them. I’m also glad that the other people can’t see them.”

“Why?”

“It’s fun.”

Houzuki enjoyed this exciting daily life.

She hated seeing ghosts, but still she could see Yuiru and Towako, so she never got bored. Even though ghosts were threatening her every day, she never regretted it.

Yuiru raised the corners of his mouth and laughed,

“So, what should I have for my next meal?”

“Just get something done.”

“Aren’t you treating me too poorly?”

“No, I don’t.”

Ignoring Yuiru’s pleas for her to improve his treatment, Houzuki pushed her way through the corridor where ghosts and real patients were mixed together.
