Meal

Chapter 5 “Meal”

Ka~, ka~.

Ka~ka, ka~.

The teacher with a distorted face begins a creepy lesson today.

The words written on the old blackboard covered with spider webs are indistinguishable. No matter how you look at it, it ends up being recognized as a line that looks like a writhing earthworm.

No matter how hard she squints, no matter how far she looks, she can’t believe it’s a text. The teacher, whose back was turned towards her, didn’t seem to care about the extremely dirty writing.

She can’t help but be scared. She still wants to run away.

‘But――――’

Houzuki unfolds a blank notebook and takes out a mechanical pencil from her pencil case.

That’s right, she is a student.

As a student, she has to take the class seriously for now. This is not the time for her to scream.

Suppress your fear. Don’t run away from class.

(I can’t make out the letters. I can only pretend to copy them into my notebook.)

Houzuki looks at the back of the teacher who continues to draw lines on the blackboard while pretending to run a mechanical pencil on her notebook.

“Ugh”

Her scream was stuck at her throat.

She was just leafing through a crumpled textbook on her teacher’s desk, her back to her blackboard.

A frightening image swirled from the center of her face, causing her skin to twitch and bury her eyes and nose. You could say she’s the embodiment of a nightmare. No, nightmares can’t be this bad.

It looked like there was a black hole in the center of her swirling face. Houzuki is praiseworthy for not screaming when she saw that face.

(I can’t, I’m scared)

Pretending to take notes, Houzuki averted her gaze from the teacher’s evil spirit.

She was told not to look away, but she did.

Her heart beats faster, wondering if something will happen. Her hands are sweating as she holds the mechanical pencil, and her legs under her desk are shaking with fear.

No, no, no no no.

I don’t want to die.

Ga~, ga~ka, ga~.

Ga~, ga~ka~, ka~.

Ignoring Houzuki who was shaking with fear, the teacher’s evil spirit resumed writing on the blackboard.

That’s right, Houzuki is a student. Despite it being a role, she’s in this classroom as a student.

In her seriousness, she had a notebook spread out and a writing utensil in her hand, so people recognized her as copying the words on the blackboard. She can still play the role of a student.

She secretly lets out a sigh of relief, and Houzuki looks over at the other student.

“Hm, hu-hm♪”

While humming carefreely, Yuiru was taking out tablewares.

A silver knife, fork, and plate are also provided.

It’s like he’s preparing to eat. He himself said that he feeds on fear, but his method is too dignified for an early lunch.

Houzuki’s eyes widened, wondering what on earth he was doing.

The class was still in session, and the teacher with the distorted face was still drawing meaningless lines on the blackboard. If the teacher’s evil spirit finds out that he is preparing the dishes, the chances of successfully completing the lesson will decrease.

Houzuki lowered her gaze to her notebook, praying in her heart that at least the ghost teacher wouldn’t notice the existence of the dishes Yuiru had prepared.

Gari, gari, gari.

Garigari, gari, gari.

The sound of writing on the blackboard changes.

It’s like a nasty scratching sound.

When she looked, she saw the teacher’s boney fingertips scratching hard at the dusty surface of the blackboard.

Go, go~.

Garigari gari, garigari gari.

Garigari, garigarigarigari.

Go, go~.

She is scratching the blackboard with her fingernails and slamming her forehead against it.

It’s strange, even though it looked like she was teaching a class just a moment ago.

Turning the textbook pages and writing something on the blackboard with chalk, they were supposed to be giving a lesson to students who were supposed to be just two, but…

Why is she acting so strangely?

Zu~, zu~, zuriyu.

Garigari gari, garigari garigari.

Garigari!

Garigari garigari garigari!!

Rubbing her forehead against the blackboard, the ghost teacher begins to scratch the board even more forcefully with her fingertips.

Garigari garigari gari!!

Garigari garigari gariri, garigari gari karikari gari!!

Garigari garigari!! Garigari garigari karikari garigari!!

Garigari garigari gari karikari gari!!

She is scratching relentlessly on the blackboard.

Garigari garigari!!

Garigari garigari kari karikari garigari!!

Zu~, zu~, zuri~yu~, zuri~i.

She rubbed her face against the blackboard and scratched it, as if pleading for something.

“W-what…”

“Misako-sensei must be afraid because the class went well.”

In contrast to Houzuki, who looks frightened, Yuiru happily watches the ghost teacher run wild.

The silver-haired, red-eyed male student narrowed his eyes as if judging the person.

He licked his thin lips with a bright red tongue and laughed, chuckling in amusement. Houzuki has no idea what he’s enjoying so much.

“I don’t want to die, I don’t want to disappear, I don’t want to be alone. Everyone feels like that. It’s the same with ghosts. They resist because they don’t want it to end, and they don’t want to disappear here.”

Yuiru looks like he’s completely having fun,

“That’s why she puts up such a pointless resistance. I’ve had enough of human fear, but the fear of ghosts is also quite satisfying.”

“…………Was that your goal?”

“As long as you can no longer see ghosts, right?”

Yuiru stared at Houzuki with bright red eyes,

“That’s what you wish for, right? ――Listen carefully. Misako-sensei’s screams are terrible.”

The beautiful evil spirit with silver hair and red eyes says this, so Houzuki listens closely to the female teacher who follows his example and engages in eccentric behavior.

There was something like a shriek mixed in with the sound of scratching on the blackboard.

It was a scream from the bottom of her heart that made her want to cover her ears.

Nooooooo, noooooooo.

Nooooooo, nooooooooooo.

She doesn’t want to disappear from this world, it’s a heartfelt cry that she don’t want to disappear from this world.

She’s so scared of that, it’s unbearable.

Her tenacity to stay in this world, to the point of being in that state, is unimaginable.

Houzuki looks at the back of the female teacher, who continues to scratch at the blackboard, while sitting dumbfounded and whispers, “Why…?”

“Why… why does she go to such lengths to cling to this world…?”

“She must have some regrets.”

Yuiru looked at the beautifully polished silver knife, exhaled at it and wiped the fog with the hem of his uniform.

“She doesn’t want to enter Nirvana if she has any regret. She wants to stay here. Misako-sensei will be useless once the class is over, she probably wants you to run away so the lesson doesn’t end.”

There, Yuiru stood up from his seat.

He left the beautifully polished silver knife and fork, as well as a pure white plate, on his desk.

There was no food on the plate, and no trace of it could be seen anywhere. She thought there might be some bread around the desk, but there was no such thing.

His food is fear―― what else will he eat?

“Ahh, what a wonderful horror.”

The silver knife in his hand reflects the setting sun shining through the window.

“I’ve always wanted to eat it someday, but I never thought that chance would come here. The fear of humans wasn’t enough, and I’ve been starving for a long time.”

Yuiru let out a wide grin and walked up to the ghost teacher, who was rubbing her forehead against the blackboard and trying to resist this world.

“I-ta-da-ki-ma-su” (TN: greeting before the meal)

It’s the salutation to start the meal.

Yuiru stabbed the ghost teacher in the shoulder with the silver knife he held.

What spewed out from the area where the knife had been pierced was not blood, but a black mist. Smoke that could only be felt as ominous erupted from the female teacher’s shoulders.

Aaaaaaah, aaaaaaaaah.

Aaaaaaaaaaah, aaaaaaaaaaaah.

The ghost teacher goes berserk.

She thrashes around and resists.

Yuiru, who was carving his shoulder with a knife, suddenly bit into the ghost teacher’s arm, for whatever reason he had in mind.

“Mm, mm”

Yuiru says with a contented smile as he chews on her arm, which is spewing out a black mist.

“Ghosts taste better after all!!”

While carefully cutting the ghost teacher into pieces with the knife, Yuiru continues to eat the ghost teacher.

It doesn’t seem like the best eating etiquette, but Yuiru eats the ghost with great relish.

The scene was beyond her imagination, and it was something outside Houzuki’s common sense as she watched the meal in amazement.

Can you imagine it?

The scene of a ghost cannibalizing another ghost.

“Delicious, it’s delicious.”

Yuiru pulled out the silver knife, roughly wiped his mouth with the sleeve of his uniform, and clasped his hands together toward the fallen heels and broken chalk.

“Go-chi-sou-sa-ma-de-shita” (TN: greeting after the meal)
