HGEG Chapter 17

Zombie Town

In fact, the place where they were resting was not far from the town’s police station. When they looked out from downstairs, they could vaguely see the police station’s entrance. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to move further away; rather, after the events of yesterday, some were injured, and others were exhausted. Except for You Yi, everyone else was completely worn out and simply couldn’t move any further.

So, in a sense, they had not completely escaped danger. The first thing they did when they went downstairs was to cautiously look towards the police station, fearing that they might be discovered by those military zombies again.

However, to their surprise, the entrance to the police station was clean and empty, just as it had been when they came here yesterday. The zombies in military uniforms and the ordinary zombies had all vanished, and the door was slightly ajar.

This not only failed to reassure them but instead made everyone feel uneasy, and they all wanted to leave immediately. Unfortunately, yesterday Xin Meng had not found a car to drive in the parking lot. Without any means of transportation, they had no idea how much time it would take to cross the entire town or what dangers they might encounter.

Just as they were feeling troubled, You Yi took out a mini window breaker from his backpack, walked over to a Wrangler parked by the roadside, smashed the driver’s side window, leaned in, opened something near the steering wheel, pulled out a few wires, and somehow managed to get the car started!

Xin Meng watched in astonishment and finally gave You Yi a thumbs up.

The few of them got into the car, with You Yi driving this time. Xin Meng sat in the passenger seat, while Dong Xiu and Li Yougen exchanged glances and decided not to make things awkward, opting to get in the back seat instead.

With a gentle turn of the steering wheel and a heavy press on the gas pedal, the car quickly slid out, heading east.

Along the way, they encountered quite a few ordinary zombies, all of which were skillfully avoided. Xin Meng realized that when it came to driving skills, he was still far behind You Yi. Although he had seemed quite capable before, he was actually better than most, but he couldn’t compare to You Yi. Throughout the journey, as soon as he spotted a zombie ahead, the car would already have expertly maneuvered around it. They had driven through most of the town without even brushing against a single zombie.

“If this is really a game,” Xin Meng muttered in disbelief, “you must be a XX coin player!”

You Yi turned his head and gave him a meaningful glance. Xin Meng was puzzled, but the man didn’t explain and quickly turned back to focus on driving.

Xin Meng hesitated for a moment but decided not to press further—though his curiosity was gnawing at him.

“What happened to you guys before?” Just as he was lost in thought, it was the first time he heard You Yi take the initiative to ask him a question. Xin Meng perked up and recounted everything about Jie Zi to You Yi, who nodded occasionally in response.

The two of them were talking in front, their voices low and harmonious.

However, the warm atmosphere in front was completely lost on the two in the back. Dong Xiu was shifting uncomfortably against the car door, glaring at Li Yougen. “What are you doing! It’s broad daylight, have some decency!”

He was practically rolling his eyes. Li Yougen seemed to be acting strangely. Originally, he had been sitting a bit closer to the middle, watching the road through the gap in the front seats, but he noticed that the person next to him was moving around incessantly. When he looked over, he found Li Yougen’s hand was reaching into his pants… moving up and down.

He thought he must have seen it wrong and almost took off his glasses to wipe them, but when he looked again, it was still the same. Li Yougen’s face was flushed, and his hand was moving particularly fast. Dong Xiu was so angry he wanted to kick him out of the car right then and there!

Li Yougen, embarrassed and furious, explained, “No, it’s not what you think… I just don’t know why it’s so itchy, so I was scratching it, just scratching it… I’m not doing that…”

Dong Xiu didn’t really suspect he was doing anything inappropriate, after all, they were still on the run, and there were so many people in the car. Li Yougen didn’t seem like the type to act lewdly in public. Instead, he was the kind of person who, because he was a party member, always held himself to a high standard and looked quite respectable when not in danger. He just thought the movement was too vulgar, and since Li Yougen kept scratching, it made him feel itchy too. He couldn’t help but ask, “Why are you so itchy?”

“I don’t know,” Li Yougen said with a pained expression, “I got bitten by mosquitoes in the house yesterday, and my leg itches like crazy. Today the bump has gone down, but now it’s itchy again. If only I had some floral water or essential balm. I don’t know what kind of mosquitoes they are, but their bites are so fierce.”

Dong Xiu thought for a moment and said, “Probably some poisonous mosquitoes. Those black and white striped big mosquitoes bite hard. I’m allergic to them; even if they bite me on the arm and leave a small bump, my whole arm up to my shoulder itches unbearably, and I feel like I could scratch my skin off.”

“Yes! Yes! That’s exactly how it feels!” Li Yougen nodded vigorously. “I feel the same way; I must be allergic too. If we pass a pharmacy, I want to get some antihistamines.”

Just then, he spotted a small pharmacy nearby and quickly tapped the front seat. “I see a pharmacy! Stop! Quick, stop!”

The Wrangler sped past without any intention of stopping. Dong Xiu pulled him back, “What are you stopping for? We need to get to the east side quickly and leave this game. Why are you wasting time on this itch?”

“But it’s so uncomfortable,” Li Yougen knew the reasoning was sound, but the itch was too painful. The bump that had originally been on his leg was now gone, but the itch seemed to be spreading rapidly. It wasn’t just between his legs; his entire leg was starting to itch. He felt that if he waited any longer, the itch would spread all over his body.

Dong Xiu glared at him. “Just hold on! We’ll be at the far east of the town in half an hour!”

Li Yougen scratched at his leg in agony.

Meanwhile, only Xin Meng in the front noticed that the car’s speed had increased again.

“You, You Yi…” Xin Meng called out, only to realize this was the first time he had called the man’s name.

You Yi turned his head to look at him, a hint of a smile in his eyes. “Hmm?”

Xin Meng felt a bit embarrassed under his gaze and couldn’t bring himself to ask what he wanted to. “It’s nothing…”

But You Yi suddenly sobered, lowering his voice to say, “Stay close to me, stand behind me, and don’t run around.”

Was this… a protective gesture?

Xin Meng couldn’t help but smile at him again. The sunlight streaming in through the window danced on Xin Meng’s face and hair, making his smile appear exceptionally pure.

He was naturally quite handsome, with innocent eyes and long eyelashes, looking like the beloved boy next door. However, when he smiled, that feeling completely changed.

For some reason, the same upward curve of his lips and the downward curve of his eyes that made others smile felt different with Xin Meng. When he smiled, it always conveyed a sense of… special tenderness and submissiveness.

When he looked at you with a smile, it felt as if no matter what you did to him, no matter how excessive, he would be satisfied and compliant.

It was enough to make any man’s desire for conquest and control surge!

In short, when he wasn’t smiling, he was a cute and innocent younger brother, but when he smiled, he transformed into…

A wife!

This was a tragedy because Xin Meng himself would never be so unprincipled in his submission. Many were enchanted by his smile, but almost none received anything other than a fist in return.

You Yi’s Adam’s apple bobbed a few times, and his gaze, seemingly casual, quickly shifted away from Xin Meng’s face.

Perhaps because they had found the right direction, the four of them had a very smooth journey. With You Yi’s acceleration, in less than twenty minutes, they were nearing the eastern gate of the town, where there was a highway leading out. In front of the toll booth, a jumble of crooked cars was parked, blocking the road almost completely, leaving only a narrow path for pedestrians.

And there, indeed, was a passage that could only accommodate one person, leading to a black door at the end.

That was the exit!

Dong Xiu and Li Yougen were ecstatic, looking at the exit that was so close, thinking about how soon they would leave this monster-filled town. They were almost going crazy with joy. Once they reached there and entered that door, they would be safe. At that moment, everything—Jie Zi, Xiong Jiabao, military zombies—was pushed to the back of their minds. They quickly got out of the car from both sides and ran towards it!

Driven by their excitement, Xin Meng’s spirits also lifted, and he was about to jump down when You Yi grabbed his wrist. “Wait.”

Xin Meng was confused, watching You Yi get out of the car, then come around to his side, helping him open the door. Once he was out, You Yi pulled him close. “What did you promise me? Don’t run around, stay close to me.”

“Okay.” In the urgent situation, Xin Meng didn’t bother to say more, instinctively gripping back.

You Yi led him carefully forward through the gap between the cars, not running but maintaining a steady pace. His gaze was sharp as an eagle, constantly scanning the surroundings, not missing even the slightest movement. Any danger would not escape his eyes. He wasn’t carrying a backpack, but a gun was already gripped in his other hand.

The man’s steps were steady and calm, which infected Xin Meng’s anxious heart, giving him an indescribable sense of security. He steadied himself and closely followed You Yi’s footsteps, cautiously moving forward.

At this moment, Dong Xiu and Li Yougen had already created some distance between them, rushing ahead, almost forgetting everything around them. Their eyes were solely focused on that small black door, eager to be the first to rush through!

No one noticed that the door of the two-story building next to the toll booth suddenly moved.
