Yóu Yì suddenly stopped, and Xīn Méng almost bumped into his back.
“Wh-what’s wrong?” Xīn Méng asked, confused.
Yóu Yì turned around, shielding Xīn Méng behind him, and took two steps back. “Something’s not right.”
Xīn Méng blinked, tilted his head, and looked around Yóu Yì to see what was ahead, but there was nothing unusual?
Just as he was puzzled, a familiar scream from Lǐ Yǒu Gēn suddenly echoed from the front!
“Ah ah ah—”
This sound was enough to rival the scream he heard earlier at the police station when he suddenly encountered hundreds of military uniform zombies; of course, the situation was almost… completely the same!
The door of the bungalow swung open by itself, and out poured those terrifying military uniform zombies!
The scene was horrifying, as if time had replayed itself; those nightmarish beings descended without warning, blocking their only escape route just as they were about to flee, intent on trapping them here!
One, two… fifty… a hundred…
The zombies kept pouring out from the door, their grotesque faces and sharp claws rushing towards the crowd, a vast sea of green threatening to engulf them completely!
“Friends, we meet again!” A wild laugh suddenly rang out, and Jié Zi’s figure appeared on the ordinary rooftop, his upper body bare, flaunting his exaggerated muscles. He stood on the eaves, looking down at the four people below, his gaze lingering on Yóu Yì for a moment, his cheek twitching inexplicably before he shifted his gaze to Lǐ Yǒu Gēn, grinning maliciously, “Where are you going? My darling has missed you so much, he had to come find you. Tsk tsk, or you could just stay here and keep him company? After all, he was once your teammate!”
As he spoke, a figure slowly approached behind him; it was none other than the mutated Xióng Jiā Bǎo!
Or rather, a purple monster…
At this moment, Xióng Jiā Bǎo looked even more terrifying; his body had swollen again, nearly twice the height of Jié Zi, his skin rotting away to reveal ghastly white bones. As he moved, one could faintly hear the creaking sound of bones grinding together, sending chills down one’s spine. Half of his face had rotted away, his thin eyelids vanished, leaving his eyeballs exposed, staring greedily at Lǐ Yǒu Gēn.
Lǐ Yǒu Gēn took a step back, trembling in fear, nearly collapsing to the ground. Seeing Xióng Jiā Bǎo rushing towards him, he turned and fled in a panic, shouting angrily, “Damn bastard! It’s not my fault you died, why are you chasing me! It was him!” He pointed at Dǒng Xiū, shouting, “He deliberately caused your death! If it weren’t for him, you wouldn’t have died! You should go find him! Go find him!”
“You!” Dǒng Xiū gritted his teeth, glaring hatefully at Lǐ Yǒu Gēn, then quickly hid behind a nearby car.
The monster ignored them, still chasing after Lǐ Yǒu Gēn. In fact, Xióng Jiā Bǎo’s consciousness was no longer in that body; he had lost all human awareness, leaving only primitive greed and hunger, along with a slight obsession with the “food” he had seen after mutating, which kept him fixated on Lǐ Yǒu Gēn, not caring who had caused his death.
Because he was no longer Xióng Jiā Bǎo, just a rotting mutated monster.
Xīn Méng watched clearly from the side; he didn’t go help Lǐ Yǒu Gēn but focused more on the group of military uniform zombies. They rushed out, drawn away by Lǐ Yǒu Gēn’s screams, trailing behind him, temporarily not affecting the corner where Xīn Méng and Yóu Yì were. Seeing that no one was coming to help him, Lǐ Yǒu Gēn, in his anger, decided to drag someone down with him and charged towards the nearest Dǒng Xiū.
Dǒng Xiū could no longer maintain his calm demeanor and began cursing Lǐ Yǒu Gēn loudly. However, helplessly, he had no choice but to flee alongside him. Fortunately, there were many vehicles here, and the zombies were not very agile, so the main group was temporarily blocked outside the traffic, unable to enter completely. The zombies that did come in were also affected, running slowly, giving the two a brief moment to catch their breath.
Getting Dǒng Xiū involved was probably the best decision Lǐ Yǒu Gēn made; once he joined, Lǐ Yǒu Gēn, who had been running around like a headless chicken, unconsciously followed the clear target of Dǒng Xiū, running towards the exit. They were now less than three hundred meters away from it, and their chances of escape were very high!
Meanwhile, Xīn Méng and the others were still watching from a distance, far from both the zombie army and the exit.
“Ah ah ah!” Dǒng Xiū suddenly shouted, instantly increasing his running speed to a sprint!
The door was getting closer and closer; just a little more, just a tiny bit more, and he could leave this place!
“Bang! Boom!”
A deafening sound erupted without warning, and the car in front of Dǒng Xiū was instantly smashed away. Jié Zi had teleported to the exit with a speed and strength that no normal person could possess, raising his hand to flip all the cars, clearing a space in front of the door. A portion of the military zombies that followed him quickly occupied the area, standing in formation like soldiers, all facing Dǒng Xiū, their hollow eyes gleaming with malicious delight and greed, fixated on him.
Dǒng Xiū couldn’t stop in time and nearly crashed into them!
Seeing the path ahead blocked, Dǒng Xiū immediately turned right. In his mind, the correct action in a situation where two people were being flanked was to split up and run in different directions to disperse the pursuers, increasing their chances of survival. However, the cowardly Lǐ Yǒu Gēn, terrified, followed Dǒng Xiū and turned right as well, with the zombies trailing closely behind them.
“You idiot!” Dǒng Xiū wished he could strangle him!
The military zombies lined up at the door did not move, only their heads slowly turned to follow the two, their dark eye sockets glued to them, dozens of them moving in perfect synchronization, as if they were still as well-trained as when they were alive.
Watching this eerie and terrifying scene, Xīn Méng’s hand trembled, and he nervously clutched the back of Yóu Yì’s shirt, but the man patted him reassuringly.
Those zombies were drawn to Dǒng Xiū and Lǐ Yǒu Gēn, so the two standing further away were not affected. Jié Zi also seemed uninterested in them, playfully toying with Dǒng Xiū and the others. For now, Xīn Méng and Yóu Yì were safe, but that didn’t mean they could remain uninvolved; the line of military zombies was blocking the exit, and if they didn’t find a way to break through, they would still be worn down here.
“What should we do?” Xīn Méng anxiously glanced at the slowing Dǒng Xiū and Lǐ Yǒu Gēn, then at the tightly blocked exit, unable to help but ask Yóu Yì, “Can we use guns to kill these zombies?”
Yóu Yì glanced at Jié Zi, raised his gun, and said, “You step back and find a safe place to hide.”
Xīn Méng was always aware of his own lack of combat ability, so he didn’t hesitate and immediately ran back, finding a van to hide behind, observing the situation through the car window.
Once Xīn Méng was gone, Yóu Yì’s expression returned to its usual indifference, his beautiful tea-colored eyes filled with frost. He raised his gun and pulled the trigger, sweeping it across the heads of the military zombies at the door!
“Bang bang bang bang bang bang…”
Though it was a sweep, his accuracy was astonishing, with almost no wasted bullets; each shot hit a zombie squarely in the forehead. The zombies didn’t even have time to react before they collapsed to the ground. In the blink of an eye, less than half of the zombies were still standing. Hearing the gunfire, Dǒng Xiū and Lǐ Yǒu Gēn turned back in surprise to look at Yóu Yì, immediately pivoting to drag the large wave of zombies behind them towards him.
“You guys…” Xīn Méng was so angry he stomped his feet; was he trying to get Yóu Yì killed?
But Yóu Yì ignored the two, not taking them seriously at all. He quickly changed to a new magazine, and before the two could get close, he swiftly returned to Xīn Méng’s side, pulling him towards the exit while continuing to shoot, taking down the remaining zombies one by one. However, strangely, Jié Zi, who had been blocking the way, had disappeared without a trace.
The ground was littered with the completely “dead” zombies, and Yóu Yì led Xīn Méng smoothly towards the exit. Dǒng Xiū, seeing the situation, was overjoyed and rushed over. He had originally been closer to the exit than Xīn Méng, but he had circled around to lead the zombies to Yóu Yì for him to kill, which had caused him to fall behind.
Reaching the exit, Yóu Yì first pushed Xīn Méng towards the small door. “You go first!”
Seeing him give the chance to escape to Xīn Méng first, Xīn Méng felt a bit touched and, without thinking, grabbed Yóu Yì’s hand. “Together.”
Yóu Yì didn’t push him away but instead held his hand back. Once Xīn Méng stepped into the small door, his figure immediately vanished into the dark space, and Yóu Yì followed closely behind, glancing back one last time.
“What are you doing! Bastard! How dare you bite me!”
Dǒng Xiū roared madly, kicking Lǐ Yǒu Gēn hard. But Lǐ Yǒu Gēn clung tightly to his waist, his lifted face already pale, his pupils gone, blood staining his lips and teeth, dripping down his chin, then from his thighs, and finally spreading rapidly to his entire body.
“Damn it! Damn it!” Dǒng Xiū’s eyes turned red as he picked up a broken piece of a car from the ground and smashed it into Lǐ Yǒu Gēn’s face, rotten flesh and pus splattering everywhere, his features completely smashed, yet his hard teeth remained intact, still gnawing and tearing at Dǒng Xiū’s flesh!
“Just a little more… just a little more, and I could have left…” Dǒng Xiū looked despairingly at the exit, which was less than fifty meters away, yet felt so far away…
As if it would never be reached.
The last thing Yóu Yì saw before leaving was Dǒng Xiū reaching out towards him, as if pleading for him to pull him along, but Yóu Yì’s eyes were empty, his footsteps falling, and he instantly disappeared into the door.
…
In the strange white space, two figures gradually emerged.
One standing, one sitting.
The person sitting on the ground opened his eyes, his gaze dazed, as if he had not fully awakened from a dream. The standing person looked at him for a moment, then slowly walked to his side, bent down, and gently placed a hand on his head.
“…M…”
The sitting person raised his head and smiled at the other.
