HGEG Chapter 70

Devil's Castle

Xin Meng had once imagined what You Yi’s legion would be like.

He still remembered the first time they met, when You Yi had told him that he came from a special forces background. Although he had retired later, the saying goes, once a soldier, always a soldier; that kind of imprint must have been deeply engraved in his bones. His hobbies and aesthetics were undoubtedly related to the military, so Xin Meng believed that his favorite legion would definitely be like the well-trained human soldiers in the army, so orderly, so cool!

But the reality almost made him pop his eyes out.

Where was the promised coolness and dominance? Where was the iron will that could move mountains?

What was up with these seemingly inconspicuous soldiers?

“Why are all the people in your legion like this?” Xin Meng asked You Yi in surprise. “I can’t say they’re too bad, but they’re just too ordinary, haven’t you given up on the legion battle and put all your bets on the individual competition?”

After saying this, he immediately shook his head. You Yi couldn’t possibly have such a personality; he was used to having every step of the situation firmly in his grasp and would never waste an opportunity unless he had another purpose.

You Yi slightly curled his lips, a hint of a smile in his eyes as he glanced at Xin Meng.

Perhaps after… those unspeakable two weeks, Xin Meng felt as if he had inexplicably lit up a skill in heart-to-heart communication. At this moment, he could even understand the meaning You Yi was conveying just by looking at him: wait and see.

Xin Meng steadied his mind and looked again at You Yi’s legion.

There were no clangs of weapons, no imposing presence; they didn’t even stand up straight, slouching and looking around, where was the aura of a soldier?

Coupled with their utterly forgettable appearances, they were just a bunch of random passersby.

Although Xin Meng had always trusted You Yi, everything he saw still left him feeling uncertain. Would such a team really not be wiped out?

Looking at those small frames, they probably couldn’t even withstand a single blow from the Gluttony Legion, they might just be squashed into meat patties…

While he was worrying, You Yi pulled him out of the passage, walking along the edge towards one side of the square.

Xin Meng followed behind You Yi, unconsciously observing the entire layout of the square as he walked.

This square was quite peculiar, not in the most common rectangular shape, but a regular pentagon. Of course, it wasn’t a star shape; it just had a corner in each of the five directions, connected by straight lines, and the direction they were heading was one of those corners.

Upon arrival, he could see an exceptionally luxurious house sitting there, only one story high, but with a particularly tall roof. It looked like a miniature castle from the outside, and upon entering through the main door, the interior was also decorated very lavishly, resembling the style of the large castle they had first entered, with even the European-style carved furniture being gilded, a true display of luxury.

However, before Xin Meng at the door could express any sentiments, he saw You Yi wave his hand, and the room instantly turned upside down. In the blink of an eye, when he looked again, the interior had completely transformed into the room they had lived in for two weeks!

Bed! Bed! Still just a bed!

There was nothing else but the bed!

The only difference was that there were windows now, letting in plenty of light.

Xin Meng rolled his eyes, not wanting to go in at all. Hadn’t he spent enough time in bed for two weeks?

He had had more than enough!

But resistance was futile; You Yi still pulled him inside and lay down with him on the bed.

Xin Meng thought he was up to no good again and was about to push him away when he saw You Yi flick his finger, and a semi-transparent light screen appeared in front of them, displaying a pentagon in the center, showing the entire situation of the square.

Xin Meng was drawn in by the image, forgetting to struggle, leaning against You Yi’s arm as he curiously examined the magical display.

In the center of the pentagon were five piles of small light dots of different colors, the number matching the number of soldiers, and at each corner was a drawing of a house, each containing two light dots that moved from time to time, appearing to be in real-time sync with the positions of the actual people.

Xin Meng’s mouth twitched as he tried hard to ignore the light dots in their room that were almost stacked on top of each other—couldn’t the other rooms have the two people spaced out a bit more?

“Are the ones in these houses the demon generals and our teammates?” Xin Meng asked.

You Yi nodded, then touched the screen with his finger, and a red dot appeared on the screen. Soon, one became two, two became three, and the other demon generals also placed their fingers on the screen to light up their own red dots. Finally, all five lit up, and the five houses and the light dots inside them instantly disappeared.

A sudden feeling of weightlessness hit Xin Meng, making him feel a bit dizzy, and the light in front of him dimmed. He hurriedly turned to look out the window, only to find that the scenery outside had changed; the wide square had vanished, and there was no bright sunlight, replaced instead by a gray chaos, as if they had suddenly teleported to another dimension.

The actual situation was indeed quite similar.

The candles in the room lit up automatically, replacing the sunlight.

In the silent, lifeless chaotic space, five miniature castles floated in the distance, wrapped in a layer of transparent protective shield, like soap bubbles blown by a child.

They had disappeared from the square, and it wasn’t over yet; the pentagon on the screen changed again, and the ground faintly revealed an exceptionally complex maze map, which then became increasingly clear, gray brick walls rising up as if they were about to reach the clouds, and the light dots were instantly scattered, randomly landing in various parts of the maze.

The Rage Legion was red, the Greed Legion was yellow, the Gluttony Legion was blue, the Jealousy Legion was green, and You Yi’s Lust Legion was a striking purple.

The locations where these light dots scattered had no pattern; some were alone in a corner, some clustered together with several of the same color, but more were mixed together, with red meeting green, blue meeting yellow, and as soon as they encountered each other, they would group together, flickering until one of them extinguished.

Xin Meng found it interesting. “Whose idea was this? It’s great! Can we command them from here?”

You Yi shook his head slightly, his gaze on the back of Xin Meng’s head growing deeper.

If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he would have had no reaction to the passage of life; it was said to be emotional, yet ultimately heartless.

But…

It didn’t matter.

As long as it was him.

Xin Meng was completely focused, unaware of the gaze behind him, excitedly saying, “So the other demon generals can’t command them either? That seems fair enough. But not only are they separated, they also have to navigate the maze. If they get unlucky and end up in a dead end, blocked by others, that would be terrible. It seems luck is also very important!”

His sentiment wasn’t said lightly; because in this short time, several unfortunate souls had already encountered such situations, being cornered and exterminated by others, some even being from different legions, leading to chaotic battles where one careless move could lead to being extinguished.

Xin Meng didn’t even look at the others, just fixated on the purple dots belonging to You Yi’s legion, his eyes nearly crossing, but this still couldn’t save the purple legion from its disadvantage. Just as Xin Meng had worried before, these people clearly lacked offensive capability. Even the Greed Legion’s Beggar Legion and the Jealousy Legion’s Odd Fruit Legion looked like they had undergone strict training, their combat power not to be underestimated, but the soldiers in You Yi’s legion looked like ordinary people, and when they encountered light dots of other colors, they would just run away?

Those purple light dots, when encountering light dots of other colors, would suddenly dash in the opposite direction, moving quite fast. Was this You Yi’s plan, to have these people run away or hide until time was up?

But just as he was wildly guessing, the situation suddenly changed.

First, a certain purple light dot distanced itself from a yellow light dot, hiding behind a wall, pausing slightly, then unexpectedly turned back, heading back towards the direction it had just fled from. What was even stranger was that this time, the yellow light dot was leisurely swaying in place, showing no intention of attacking upon seeing the purple light dot. The two light dots came together, as if they were talking, and after a while, they actually set off together in the same direction.

“Are they forming a gang?” Xin Meng raised an eyebrow, just about to praise their cleverness when he saw that the purple light dot suddenly pounced on the yellow light dot, which flickered twice and then disappeared.

Xin Meng: “…”

The same scene began to appear more frequently across the entire map, with those light dots of other colors seemingly becoming unresponsive to the approach of the purple light dots, allowing them to stab them in the back, one by one extinguishing, while the purple light dots… actually suffered no casualties?

This was simply unbelievable. Even if they proposed a temporary alliance, it was highly likely they would be rejected by the other side; how could they succeed every time!

Moreover, Xin Meng also noticed that the ones disappearing the most were from the Greed Legion and the Jealousy Legion, while the Rage Legion only had occasional casualties, with relatively small losses. Perhaps their combat power was too high; there were several times when the purple light dots pounced on the other side but ended up getting hurt instead, having to flee in embarrassment.

And the Gluttony Legion…

Hardly anyone approached?

What was going on?

All the purple light dots, upon seeing the blue light dots representing the Gluttony Legion, almost all chose to take a detour, preferring to pounce on the Rage Legion rather than actively attack the big guys. The only ones who ever faced off against the Gluttonous ones were soldiers from other legions.

Were they afraid of “heavy weight attacks”? But that didn’t make sense; the other legion soldiers who should be afraid had already engaged, so it was illogical for the Lust Legion, which should be the least afraid, to avoid them.

The situation was too strange; Xin Meng was utterly confused. He could only see this screen filled with light dots to grasp the general situation but couldn’t know the detailed circumstances, making it impossible to make accurate predictions.

He couldn’t help but complain to You Yi, “What exactly is going on? Tell me quickly!”

You Yi lazily leaned against the head of the bed, his black robe covering a small part of the bed, his shiny black hair casually falling, looking very smooth. At this moment, he wasn’t looking at the screen; instead, he had half-closed his eyes, lightly tapping his curled knee with his fingers, seemingly indifferent to everything on the screen.

Xin Meng felt a bit uncomfortable with his nonchalant attitude, of course, You Yi had been like this before, but back then, they hadn’t developed such intimacy. He could only silently endure it in his heart. Now, however, the situation was different. He sat up from You Yi’s embrace, pushed his hand away, and glared at him, “Tell me quickly! I want to know!”

You Yi opened his eyes to look at him, suddenly smiled, and pulled him back into his arms, his fingers lightly touching his lips.

Xin Meng felt as if something had been stuffed into his mouth, which melted instantly. By the time he realized it, that thing had already turned to liquid and been swallowed into his stomach.

Just as he was about to ask You Yi what he had eaten, he felt a wave of dizziness, as if everything around him was twisting, sometimes large, sometimes small, sometimes far, sometimes near, with a rumbling sound in his ears, and for a moment, he couldn’t hear anything due to the ringing in his ears. He instinctively reached out to grab You Yi but ended up grasping at nothing.
